Chapter 6 – The Great Feast (Part 3)
Once the food and drink had been delivered to all the tables in the Feast Hall, the dragons, staff members and students, began to eat. They tucked into their food with delight and gusto. Digit noticed but enjoyed his food either way. He was excited to begin his studies at the school. He took a piece of cooked meat in his left forepaw and brought it to his mouth. It was hot, rich, and savory. He chewed it several times and swallowed it quickly. His tongue burned a bit.
Digit picked up another meat piece and blew on it. He made sure to cool it before tossing it in his mouth. Burning himself was the last thing he wanted to do. While he tucked into his food, he wondered what each class was like. Each course had its own work, tests, grading system, and assignments.
He remembered Spyro and Cynder had listed the classes during the school tour. Combat & Survival, Elements, Flight & Navigation, Mathematics, and History sounded intriguing. Majority of them were required for all students to learn, and passing them with a good grade was a must.
He felt good about Elements and Mathematics. However, he worried about Combat & Survival. He knew deep down he was not the best fighter or survivalist, but every dragon had to know how to fight and survive. It was in a dragon's nature and instincts. Still, he would do his best to master combat and survival in spite of his short comings.
"Great food and drinks, wouldn't you agree?"
Digit turned to his right. A first-year student with dark grey skin and pointy nostrils looked at him.
"Yeah…everything is good."
"I hope all the meals will be tasty like this."
Digit nodded. He chuckled at his peer's comment. "I couldn't agree more."
"And school dances and social events will be rad. I can't wait to ask out a girl to a dance."
At the word dance, Digit stopped. He snapped his head up and looked at the first year student, surprised. The dark grey male dipped his head and mentioned that Spyro and Cynder had said that the school would host a few dances and parties for the first years.
"Wow…that is something," the earth dragon replied, rubbing his chin. "So…who would you ask out to a dance?"
The dark grey male pointed to another table where several students sat eating. Most of them were female first years. "The female with blue-green skin, webbed toes, and seashell necklace."
Digit followed his peer's gaze. He noted the female in question. It was a dragon that ate her food happily and with great table manners. She wore a seashell necklace on her neck. Her horns curved downward slightly. Black tribal markings adorned her head and chest. Digit glanced back at his peer and nodded.
"I wish you the best in that endeavor, my friend. She looks nice."
"Thanks," the dark grey male said. "Name's Xavier. And her name is Meriji."
"How did you find out her name?" Digit asked.
"I overheard one of the other girls call her that during the tour."
Digit chuckled. "Nice. This school offers us so much."
Xavier nodded. "I know, and I'm not complaining one bit." '

Hylok ate slowly. As he sat with the teachers, school master, and staff members for the school, he watched them eat and drink with vigor, joy, and pleasure. He found the sight amusing and comforting. Here and there, he would look around the Feast Hall. His eyes checked the doors, exits, and entrances for any sign of trouble. As the school security guard, he had to make things safe for everyone.
After such surveys, Hylok would glance over at Juniper. The school landscaper and gardener didn't speak much. She listened more and took small bites of her food. The dragon looked bashful and nervous around others. She sat to his left side. He tapped a foreclaw on the table near her plate. Juniper started with a squeak. Her gaze lifted up to his.
"Feeling okay, Juniper?" Hylok asked.
"Y-Yes…just o-overwhelmed…" she replied.
"Yeah. It can be." Hylok nodded. "I'm constantly looking around the room for dangers."
"You are? But…all the employees can fight against an intruder or villain."
"True, but I want to be the first to fight and warn everyone."
Juniper shook her head and giggled.
Hylok tilted his head. "What's so funny?"
"Oh…That you are constantly looking around, moving your head and neck…"
Hylok couldn't help but chuckle at that. "I guess I could tone down my head movements or I could sprain something."
"That's right, and I'd have to tend to your injuries," Parik said. "You already have a fat neck."
Terrador, Cyril, Volteer, and several adult dragons stifled laughter as Hylok gave his older brother a sharp look. Sometimes he wanted to take a rock and throw it at Parik's head. But he resisted the urge after Juniper tapped his left paw with hers and her sweet smile. Hylok nodded before he continued eating his food.
