Chapter 1 : My Youth As A Sorcerer Is Wrong, As I Expected.
—OoOoO—
'Being an office worker is trash, but being a jujutsu sorcerer is even more trash. So, since both of them are trash, it makes more sense if I choose something that suits me'. It was a sentence I quoted from one of the jujutsu sorcerers I respect the most. However, especially for me, I will add a bit of my own ideology there.
Being an office worker is trash and being a jujutsu sorcerer is even more trash. Therefore, I don't want to be both and just want to be a house-husband. Yes, it is the best option and sounds much better. Married to a beautiful and hardworking woman who wants to provide for me all her life, is my dream. However, reality does not always match your expectations, that is why you can also categorize that this fucking life is also trash.
Life always goes on confusingly. A cause-and-effect system is a simplification made by humans to explain all the mysteries in this world. A mysterious power seems to always pull the thread of fate that forces everything to work according to its will. Therefore, humans will never get an essential fact or truth from this world.
They say physics is a law that is closest to the mysteries of this world. However, that is not true, but also not completely wrong. The laws of physics are not the truth, it is just an assumption that has been agreed upon by many smart people in the world. In fact, these smart people until now have not been able to explain why the general laws of physics that we know so far contradict each other with the laws of quantum physics that explain matter on an atomic scale.
No, just put aside all that hard-to-understand physics language. The real fact is that the truth is just an assumption that has been agreed upon by the majority vote, it is precisely the existence of us, the jujutsu sorcerers themselves.
Our existence is an enigma to the world, even to the jujutsu society itself. Why do we exist? What are we here for? What does this world expect from sorcerers like us?
Those are the questions that have been swirling around my head—and probably in some others. In fact, not a few of them stopped thinking and did not care at all because they never found the truth.
The answers to these questions will always be presumptive. All science is a nebulous thing. That is why, everyone is always attached to the concept that they think is right, that is what they ultimately perceive as reality. However, what is the meaning of reality itself? Nothing, both truth, and reality are only the fruit of human thought. Both can be manipulated easily, depending on how you vary the point of view. Because of this, those who are attached to reality can easily be manipulated by illusions.
And I, Hikigaya Hachiman, am a human who walks between that thing called reality and illusion.
"Yo, Hikigaya. Thinking of something disgusting again?"
The distinctive female voice, but has a masculine feel, entered my eardrums. Without bothering to turn to the source of the sound, I already knew who the owner of the voice was who dared to interfere with my activities in seeing the clouds.
With a lazy movement, I got up from my sleep. Traces of grass sticking to my back and hands, I gently cleaned them until nothing was left. I don't know if it was because I was too carried away when I looked at the clouds, I yawned when I was about to look towards the source of the sound.
Zen'in Maki, the only girl in my class. She is a rude girl, has pure physical strength that makes no sense, and tends to be stubborn. In short, she was a troublesome female gorilla. With round glasses and dark green hair tied in a ponytail, making her looks quite beautiful and cute for a gorilla.
Behind her were three people—or maybe two people and an imitation. The man with the nice boy aura is Okkotsu Yuuta. His hair is neatly slicked to the side makes him look like a girl's ideal boy, coupled with his good nature and ease to get along with other people, make him a person who is easy to approach by anyone. Simply put, he is the type of goddamn riajuu you can find anywhere. Inumaki Toge looks like the most normal person in our group, but that only applies when he's not talking, as his vocabulary is limited to sushi ingredients only. So, if you want to be friends with this person, you will need something like the Inumaki Translation Dictionary or something. The last one is Panda. Well…, he is a panda.
"Why do I feel like you are making fun of me, damn it?"
Uwaaa … her cold voice seemed to want to skin me alive. Look, she is such a troublesome female gorilla, isn't she? Besides, how do you know what is on my mind? Were you an esper all this time or something? Or are you a gorilla in the form of a woman? I mean, didn't people on tv ever say those wild animals are more sensitive?
"No, it is just your feeling," I said while looking for an excuse, "It is just …, for some reason, I felt annoyed when I saw that blindfold of yours. I mean, it reminds me of that guy, you know?"
Maki took a deep breath when she heard my answer. Judging by her habits, I am pretty sure, she is disgruntled and still suspects that I have negative thoughts about her.
After all, why are you still wearing glasses when you are wearing a blindfold at the same time?
"Hahaha … Don't be like that, Hikigaya-kun. After all, in about less than three months, Maki-san can take off her blindfold," Okkotsu said in a friendly voice.
Among the five of us, Okkotsu is the only student who wears a different uniform. Instead of wearing a dark blue gakuran uniform, Okkotsu wore a special white shirt and black pants. After the Hyakki Yakou incident last Christmas, he also wore the same uniform as us. However, after his full strength returned, Okkotsu was back in his white uniform.
"Sakana!"
"I know… I know, I did not mean to make fun of her," I replied for some reason, everyone just thought I was the bad guy here.
Speaking of a blindfold, Maki did not close her eyes because she had an injury or something. However, this was more like a technical thing to enhance her other senses. About nine months ago, Maki thought that she had reached her limit as an ordinary human. Therefore, Gojou-sensei advised Maki, to make a binding vow with the rule, that she would wear the blindfold for one year and not take it off at all, no matter what, even if her life was in danger. Meanwhile, in exchange, it is hoped that the ability of her reflexes and senses can increase and exceed their limits.
Speaking of binding vows, it is a binding oath that is usually done to make a pact to sorcerers or to oneself. However, historically, the practice of binding vow has only been carried out on something that requires curse energy as an activator. So, what Maki is doing is relatively new and its success cannot be guaranteed. However, Gojou-sensei had his own theory.
Heavenly restriction can be said to be a binding vow that mysteriously binds and limits one's destiny from birth. And Maki is an example of a case with her divine limit suppressing her curse energy to the smallest degree that she has no sensitivity at all to curse energy. However, in exchange, she was endowed with pure physical strength on par with superhuman.
If a binding vow requires cursed energy as an energy source to keep the agreement valid, Maki's heavenly restriction should continue to burn the cursed energy until it runs out. If there was no more usable energy source, Maki's pure superhuman strength should automatically dissipate, as there was no more fuel to maintain her heavenly restriction. Therefore, the opinion that says that binding vows must be based on the curse energy is not correct, because it contradicts the facts on the ground.
Departing from that theory, Gojou-sensei argues that binding vow is something that is not as simple as sorcerers think. The binding vow is a causal concept that represents the workings of life in the world. Beginning to ending and human life and death, that's the simple essence of life. So, if there is something that binds and separates human life and death, what is it called if not the soul? That is the basis of Gojou-sensei's theory which argues that a binding vow is an oath that binds the human soul. On that basis, Gojou-sensei firmly believed that Maki could also perform binding vows, even though she was not technically a sorcerer.
"By the way, we heard that you are transferring to a public school, Hikigaya?" asked Panda.
"That is how it is," I replied in a lazy tone, "After the incident on Shikoku Island, my mother was a little worried about this job."
"Okaka?"
"No, it is not what you think, Inumaki. On the contrary, if you look at this from a different point of view, you will think that this is quite profitable for me," I replied in response to Inumaki's words.
"Let me guess, it must be one of your disgusting thoughts?" Maki fast reply.
"If disgust is your only way to express an advantage, the answer is yes. I mean, just think if I can choose my own mission."
After taking a deep breath, I explain, "If I drop out of school now with my level already semi-first grade, I am already considered worthy to take on missions independently, right? Then, even if I only exorcise second grade cursed spirits, I will still receive my full salary if I can meet the monthly target of exorcism set by the association. You see, you know yourself, don't you, that semi-first grade professional sorcerer's monthly salary is more than an office manager's salary? If I continued to consistently exorcise second grade curses for ten years and deposited part of my salary in the bank and used the remaining money to buy stock in a bona fide company, I would be able to live without working my whole life. That way, being perfectly unemployed and living as a house-husband is no longer a dream for me."
Everyone fell silent hearing the big plans for my future. I know it is an incredibly perfect plan and I am very proud to put it out there. However, it all ended when the impudent gorilla spoke up.
"As I thought, that must be another stupid idea that came out of your stupid mouth."
Feeling offended, I replied, "Don't worry, Maki. I did not expect those muscle fibers of yours to understand my grand plan."
"Ha? Did you just say that I am just a lump of muscle that cannot keep up with your bullshit, Hikigaya?" triggered Maki.
"No, I did not say. You said that yourself, not me."
With her veins tightened to form a crossroads at her neck, Maki replied, "Is that so? I guess, there is someone's ass I have been needing to punch lately, huh?"
See, how can I not call it a muscle lump if the final solution she has is her fists? Seriously, are you a real gorilla or what? Besides, how can it be that her eyes can feel like they are penetrating my skin, even though both of them are covered by a blindfold? You are not just an ordinary gorilla, but a queen gorilla, seriously!
"Maki-san, calm down. Wasn't our original purpose here to escort Hikigaya-kun last day?" said Okkotsu who tried to intervene.
By the way, Okkotsu-san, doesn't that sentence of yours sound like you are attending someone's funeral? I am still alive and even healthy, you know.
"Right, listen to that, Maki. Okkotsu does not like rude women, you know?" said Panda which was followed by an enthusiastic nod from Inumaki.
"And why should I care about it, huh?" Maki replied in an irritated tone to the two idiots.
It is fun, to see Maki shifting her annoyance to Panda and Inumaki. Watching them both shudder at being the target of the Gorilla Queen's anger, seeing Maki trying to cover up her flustered by venting her emotions, and seeing Okkotsu who could only smile awkwardly while trying to cover himself up who was also flustered. This view surely would bring back many memories when I am not here anymore.
I don't really like being in the center of a crowd and interacting with people. However, even for a loner like me, having a partner like them is a pleasure in itself amidst the dregs of the jujutsu society. The thought of myself no longer being able to stand between them, to be honest, made my heart feel a little heavy.
And without realizing it, a smile was etched on my mouth.
"Oh, Hikigaya-kun is smiling, this is something that rarely happens!" said Okkotsu who accidentally saw my smile.
"Really? I want to see it. Show me, Hikigaya."
"shake!"
"Hikigaya smiles? I am grateful, my eyes are covered with cloth. A smile combined with rotten fish eyes, isn't that the worst combination?"
I want to react to Maki's words. However, all the words I had prepared I swallowed back together with my strange and useless pride. Sorting out words and doing a process of elimination to arrange them into a solid sentence, the words finally came out of my mouth.
"One day, we can work together again, right? The five of us, as a team."
It was a simple sentence, nothing more than a little child whining at parting from his friend from home. However, we are sorcerers, a group of people who can die at any moment without anyone guessing. Even if it was a person as strong as Okkotsu, there was no guarantee that he—and of course, we would—could live to reach his 20s.
For jujutsu sorcerers like us, parting words are a curse. It can curse and lead you to bad luck that you never expected. I do not know, whether this separation will also bring a curse or not. However, if it turns out that these words contain a curse, I want to give a curse that can lead the five of us to stand under the same sky again one day.
The four of them who heard were just stunned. Not a word was heard from their mouths. However, I know, the feeling reaches all of them. Maki who also has useless pride just like me turned her face to the side. Watching her cute act like that made me chuckle inwardly.
"When we meet again later, this blindfold will be off. When that time comes, I will show you what a monkey like me can do," said Maki while pointing at her blindfold with the thumb of her right hand.
"I am also going to be assigned overseas soon. So, I will also separate from you. Therefore, when I return later, we will all definitely become more advanced jujutsu sorcerers, right?"
"Tuna mayo."
"I am just a panda, I don't really understand the ambitions you humans have,"
I snorted and smiled thinly—very, very thinly—and then said, "Those are heavy words, you know? However, it does sound like words that would be spoken by a damn riajuu like you, Okkotsu."
With that, I closed the curtain on my journey as a jujutsu student at Tokyo Jujutsu High. In the future full of obscurity that awaits, I believe, we definitely … .
—OoOoO—
Jujutsu sorcerer, an entity as well as an unsolvable enigma for the jujutsu society itself. We live in the shadows, live between curse spirits and humans, live with overlapping abstract logic, and live in a gray world.
We withdraw from all worldly affairs and turbulence between humans and dedicate ourselves to protecting the reality of mankind from supernatural threats. At least, that was the initial idea we learned when we were about to dive into the world of jujutsu. However, in fact, this gray world we live in is even worse when compared to the frenetic world of normal humans. Violent politics, conservative traditions like the feudal era, hierarchies based on power, and the practice of killing that is considered normal, are all that exist and are wrapped into one unit in a package called the world of jujutsu.
Speaking of sorcerers, we are not the typical sorcerers you might think. We are not wearing oversized, black conical hats, nor are we wearing all-black dresses that have that gloomy aura of Harry Potter. The dress standard for us is dark, but it is not black, it is more like a dark blue than black. However, there are not a few professional sorcerers who wear suits as they please. There are also special cases such as Okkotsu, who is required to wear a special white uniform, to make it easier to identify and find.
Unlike in the manga or anime, we don't use mana as a source of power, but instead, use something called cursed energy to activate a technique called cursed technique. If explained simply, cursed energy is an energy that arises from negative energy in the human body.
No, negative energy is not as bad as it sounds, you know?
Although it is called negative energy, it is actually an energy that is generated from human emotions. Sad, happy, disappointed, annoyed, curious, excited, confident, depressed, jealous, and even love are all things you can use to curse someone. Therefore, this energy is called the cursed energy. All humans normally have cursed energy, but not everyone can use this energy. Normally, only those who can see cursed spirits under normal conditions can use this power.
Our main goal is to exorcise supernatural beings called cursed spirits. Just like cursed energy, cursed spirits are created because of the emotions that humans have, which then accumulate and form an entity called a cursed spirit. In simple terms, they are creatures created from cursed energy that cannot be cultivated by humans who are not jujutsu sorcerers. The cursed spirit will not be able to disappear unless you exorcise it using the cursed energy.
I know, it sounds strange to exorcise cursed spirits—which incidentally are created from cursed energy—using the cursed energy that is the source of their life. However, let me give you a simple analogy, why do you feel pain when you are hit by another human, even though your body is made up of skin, flesh, bones, and, blood?
"Onii-chan, it is still early and you are already lazing on the couch? If you cannot be useful as a human, at least make yourself useful as a big brother, Onii-chan."
Oh, that is a painful sentence to hear. However, since it was said in such a cute voice as well as by the cutest person in the world, I will forgive her.
"Your onii-chan is currently having an identity crisis you know, Komachi-chan. So let me do some zen meditation and rethink my life," I replied nonchalantly as I lay on the couch and played Dragon Quest on my favorite Nintendo Switch.
Hikigaya Komachi is the one and my favorite little sister as well as the cutest little sister in the world. She has short hair and also the same ahoge as my mother and I. In a way, she is a cute version of my mother and if I had more passion in my life, I might look a little more like Komachi.
"What's zen meditation? All you have been doing since coming back from Tokyo is just lazing around while playing games and reading manga," said Komachi.
"The essence of zen meditation is to find relaxation in body, soul, and mind so that it can create synchrony," I replied without taking my eyes off my Switch screen, "Playing games and reading manga relaxes my body, soul, and mind. All three can sync well when I play games. So, this is zen meditation, you know?"
Since I didn't get an answer, I glanced slightly at Komachi who was now sitting on the floor in front of the table while looking at me with disgust.
"At least, go out once in a while to exorcise cursed spirits, because that is your only cool side, onii-chan. Well, but Komachi will still love you even if you become a useless man," Komachi replied.
"Oh, that must have had a lot of points on Komachi points just now!" she added then enthusiastically while raising his index finger up.
"Actually, I have always been in the house because I have a special purpose," I replied with a serious tone, "You wouldn't know, would you, what kind of cursed spirit or sorcerer would come in here and attack you and mom? So, with me always at home, I will protect you all the time."
"And that one just now must have earned a high score in onii-chan's points," I added.
Right after I finished that sentence, suddenly a strange creature flew over my head. Due to my gaming position, while lying on the sofa, my eyes immediately caught the creature as it flew past me. Yes, it is a cursed spirit the size of a toddler's head. The cursed spirit has the shape of a crow, but has a pointed tail, along with horns and six eyes on its head. On his sturdy legs, the cursed spirit could be seen carrying a bottle of mineral water.
If only I had not seen the pentagram symbol on its chest, perhaps I would have exorcised the cursed spirit with my reflexes as a jujutsu sorcerer.
My eyes automatically followed the direction of the cursed spirit's flight. Sure enough, the cursed spirit shaped like a crow flew towards my little sister who was working on something, and landed the drink bottle right on the table beside Komachi's hand. After completing the task, a dark blue vortex appeared from the pentagram symbol. The vortex quickly sucked in the cursed spirit and turned it into a human-shaped piece of paper with a pentagram symbol on its head.
Oh, shit. My game character died because I was distracted earlier.
"That is just your excuse, Onii-chan. After all, there had never been a cursed spirit invading this house at all. Even if there is, I can still handle it easily, as long as it is not a cursed spirit second grade and above."
Just like me, Komachi is also a jujutsu sorcerer. Although not a famous sorcerer, our family has a lineage as jujutsu sorcerers, although it was cut short because my mother is not a sorcerer. The moment when Komachi awakened her technique, was the moment where things got a little more complicated. Moreover, when information about Komachi's technique—somehow—was spread to other clans, especially to the three major clans, troublesome things started to arrive one by one.
Komachi has a cursed technique for manipulating cursed spirits and animals. Looking at what Geto Suguru was able to do, it was a very powerful type of cursed technique. Even so, Komachi's technique has a different way of working from the technique of the great villain of the jujutsu world. If Geto Suguru doesn't need other media to control and store his cursed spirit, Komachi instead needs a medium in the form of a talisman—or a human-shaped spell paper with a pentagram symbol that she made herself—to control and store her cursed spirit. In short, Komachi's cursed technique works just like the poke ball from the Pokemon.
It did sound a bit more complicated and inefficient than Geto's, but Komachi's technique range was wider because her technique could also control animals.
Because of this, big clans like Zen'in and Kamo tried to buy Komachi for a very large amount of money, sometimes accompanied by unreasonable threats. Moreover, after the Hyakki Yakou incident initiated by Geto, Komachi who has a cursed technique that is almost similar to him is also put on the red list because the stupid Elders of the association are afraid that Komachi will end up going crazy like Geto Suguru.
At first, what caught the eye the most was not the ability of Komachi's cursed technique, but the background and characteristics of the cursed technique. The pentagram symbol along with a human-shaped talisman that could control cursed spirits and animals, there was one person who could use that technique, he was a person who lived in the Heian Period. Abe no Seimei, was the name of the previous owner of this technique. When Gojou Satoru first came to our family, he offered protection to Komachi—under the condition, Komachi intended to become a jujutsu sorcerer—as well as offered to check our family background.
Komachi, who has a heart as good as an angel, naturally happily trains under the Gojou clan's guidance because she has a very noble goal, which is to protect humans. This of course automatically made me—who also has a cursed technique—must be forced to learn to become a jujutsu sorcerer.
Ah, for the background, it was quite surprising since my mother's family is descended from Abe no Seimei. That was what made things quite complicated, as it would be to their advantage if the descendants of Abe no Seimei joined under the same flag and name as their clan.
"By the way, Onii-chan, shouldn't you be shopping for your school supplies? The new semester starts tomorrow, right?"
Uh, seriously? That fast? Have two weeks really gone by?
In disbelief, I paused my game and glanced at the calendar hanging on our living room wall. Sure enough, the calendar already showed Sunday. That means, today is the last day of the semester-end vacation.
Oh, forget it. It must be someone who put the wrong mark on the calendar. It cannot be right, two weeks off just like that?
"There's nothing wrong with the calendar, Onii-chan, what's wrong is your personality," said Komachi who seemed to know what I was thinking, "This is mom's order, you know? Mom told you to go buy your necessities and at the same time leave you to buy some detergent, dish soap, and toilet paper."
Hearing that, I reluctantly saved my game data and turned off my Nintendo Switch.
"Well, it cannot be helped then if it is an order from the head of the family," I replied unenthusiastically and got up from the sofa where I was lying.
Head of the family? Yes, my mother is the head of the family here as well as the backbone for us. I might already have my own income from exorcising cursed spirits after I joined Tokyo Jujutsu High and officially became an active sorcerer. However, before that, my mother alone took care of this family.
my father? The coward fled leaving nothing behind because he couldn't stand the pressure from the jujutsu society. Well, after all, my father is just a normal person who cannot even see cursed spirits. So, it was quite normal that he ended up running away from us. However, still, that didn't change the fact that he was a coward who ran away from his own family.
As a widow with two children, I know very well the burden my mother bears. Because of that, I didn't have to think twice when I accepted her request to leave Tokyo Jujutsu High. After all, it didn't hurt me at all either. Besides, before I became a jujutsu sorcerer, I was a son and an older brother.
"I am off," I said, getting ready to leave the house.
"Be careful … and please buy me a glass of bubble tea when you get home, okay?" replied my sister.
—OoOoO—
One of the most enjoyable things, when you shop, is when the items you are about to buy are actually being sold at discounted prices. Because that way, you can buy something else with your leftover money. However, not all places sell their items at a discount and you also need time to find a place that provides discounts. However, I am a Hikigaya Hachiman, someone who has a noble dream of becoming a house-husband. Being a house-husband means spending time at home taking care of household matters. Taking care of household matters also means having to take care of all household finances. Taking care of finances means that you have to be frugal and manage them efficiently. While the only way to be able to meet the needs of the house with minimal costs, namely by getting everything at a low price.
As someone who is educated me to be a house-husband, I, Hikigaya Hachiman, besides practicing my curse technique, have also trained my instinct to hunt for discount items.
Speaking of leftovers, I decided to buy a cold glass of bubble tea with tapioca pearls in it. Actually, this was Komachi's drink order. However, out of curiosity and I heard that this drink is popular because of its taste, I decided to buy one for myself.
So, that is the story, about me being able to end up sitting on one of the park benches while enjoying this sweet drink.
"It is sweeter than I thought," I mumbled after sipping my bubble tea.
Not only is it sweeter, when this black pearl made of tapioca flour enters my mouth, but it also gives a pleasant sensation every time I chew it.
I have read, if you keep chewing something for a certain period, it can reduce stress and make your body more relaxed. That is why you will see a lot of people out there who use chewing gum to regulate their emotions. While this black pearl provides a suppleness that makes your mouth and tongue feel like you want to keep dancing every time there is a boba—another name for black pearl—inside.
Not only that, the sweetness of the boba seems to be doubled every time your mouth is splashed with bubble tea. The combination of the two seems to be able to create a perfect synchronization, which can spoil your tongue with a special impression. Maybe it will be a little too much, but the sensation that this drink provides can make your brain stop working for a moment.
"Oh, shit. If I get too carried away with this sweetness, I might really end up being a useless person," I said as I looked at my drink which had lost three-quarters of its contents.
In simple terms, this boba-filled drink can be said to have the same effect as sleeping under a kotatsu in winter, both of them can turn you into useless uncles.
By the way, I am a little curious about one thing. This black pearl comes from tapioca flour which means it comes from cassava flour, right? In that case, this thing called boba should have no taste at all. However, considering the sweetness that is quite sharp in each boba, I cannot help but wonder, how much sugar do they add to it? If you add it to the bubble tea drink, I think the sugar content has exceeded the daily sugar level of humans. In other words, this drink is far from healthy if you consume it too often.
"Seriously, why does something unhealthy get so popular so quickly?"
As soon as I finished saying the complaint, a woman sat at the end of the same bench where I was currently sitting. She looks like a young woman, I don't know, I am not so sure because I cannot see her face clearly. As far as I know, the woman looks to have shoulder-length black hair and has skin that looks still taut.
Her presence caught my attention. However, 'attracting attention' here wasn't something like me being attracted to the opposite sex or because she was beautiful. No, let alone judging her face is pretty or not, I told you no if I cannot see her face? However, I have to admit, that woman seems to have quite large breasts.
Even so, the only thing that intrigued me was a presence that was like a dark brown snake coiled around the young woman's neck and head. The snake-like figure had a pointed mouth, one large eye, and gray hair that looked dull and messy.
Damn it, why do I have to meet a cursed spirit in broad daylight like this? Moreover, the cursed spirit had attached and started cursing the woman.
The initial symptoms may be that the woman will start to feel tired, often short of breath, and have a very annoying headache. her sleep may also be very restless. If allowed to continue, it is not impossible if she ends up with severe depression or even followed by diseases due to the effects of respiratory disorders, headaches, and insomnia. If she took herself to the doctor, she might be able to relieve the symptoms of the illness. However, the root of the problem will not be able to be solved, because the cursed spirit is a reality that is out of their understanding.
That is why jujutsu sorcerers exist to protect that reality.
I noticed once again, the woman was now massaging the nape of her neck which must have felt very heavy. Sweat was seen dripping down both of her hands, which showed how tormented she was. Seeing that, made me subconsciously sigh. I am not a good person, nor am I one who has a high sense of justice like Okkotsu. Just like other jujutsu sorcerers, I am just a selfish bastard living by my own rules. However, I am not a man who has the heart to turn his face away from the person in front of me who will die tomorrow or the day after tomorrow.
I shifted my gaze to the front and began to suck out my bubble tea. With a little concentration, I activated my curse technique.
A light blue mist appeared to my right. From there, a dark blue right hand emerged, three times the size of a grown man's arm. At the command of my brain, the hand moved towards the cursed spirit in the shape of a snake that was wrapped around the woman's head. With just a weak tug, my imaginary hand was able to pull the cursed spirit away from the woman. As soon as the cursed spirit can be withdrawn, I squeeze the snake-shaped creature through the imaginary hand I created. Along with a scream of pain, the creature just yawned, indicating that the exorcisprocess had succeeded.
After the small activity was done, I glanced back at the woman. An expression of confusion and relief graced his face. Her breathing gradually became more regular and her slightly pale complexion gradually began to return to normal.
This time, I was able to see her face clearly without being obstructed by the disgusting creature. She was quite young but looked a few years older than me. If I had an estimate, she was probably in her 19 or early 20s.
Speaking of her face, I have to admit, she has a charming face, very, very charming. Seeing her smile slowly blooming, made me involuntarily stop breathing for a moment. Her short black hair which is only shoulder-length gives the impression of being sexy and elegant at the same time. It is very difficult to put into words that can describe her beauty. If this world is a canvas without borders, the woman's figure is a painting, a masterpiece painted on the canvas of this world.
stop it, damn it. Stop glancing at that woman or I will be completely misunderstood as a pervert.
Not wanting to be trapped by that charm for too long, I decided to get up from my seat while carrying my groceries. Besides, I have had my drink too and I have been out too long. Besides, I have not even bought Komachi's bubble tea yet.
"Yukinoshita-san, I have bought you a drink and some snacks. Are you still not feeling well?"
Just before I took my first step, I heard a woman's voice. Hearing the name that was spoken, I turned my head to the source of the voice and found a group of young people approaching the cursed woman earlier.
"It is okay, I am fine now," replied the woman named Yukinoshita.
Yukinoshita, huh? Where have I heard that name?
Not wanting to eavesdrop on those damn riajuu's conversation any longer, I just walked away without a word. Their dazzling aura of youth, really just hurts my eyes.
We are jujutsu sorcerers, at least, that is what we call our own existence. However, the title is just rhetoric that makes it seems easier to describe. In reality, we are just cursed humans. Sorcerers who use cursed energy as their source of energy, actually are humans who are cursed by the world to see the most disgusting reality of the world itself.
That is why, no matter how hard you try to take your eyes off the rotten world of jujutsu, you can never escape from this muddy world. The small details of the events around you will subconsciously drag you back to the trash called this jujutsu society.
Humans who are cursed from birth, humans who coexist with curses, humans who can even curse someone, those are the basic values that make you a jujutsu sorcerer, a value that makes you live in this endless cycle of trash. Without realizing it, you will accept and begin to compromise with this rancid background.
Then, if that is the case, what is the meaning of being a jujutsu sorcerer itself? What does it mean to be trash that has been cursed since birth? I don't know, it is a difficult question to answer one by one. However, they say, even trash has value if it is recycled properly, right?
Well, whatever it is, whether it has value or not, I don't think much of it. At least, for myself, I don't care, whether people will think of me as recyclable trash or not. I also don't care, whether I will become a useful jujutsu sorcerer or not. Because for sure, for now, I just want to enjoy my hard-earned money and live without working in the future.
—To Be Continued—
Author Note : Hello. This is the translation of chapter 1, what do you think, guys? Anyway, thank you to all of you who read and review this story.
Well, I plan to add a new skill for Maki, but it is still related to her heavenly restriction superhuman strength. And by making her use a blindfold and make her do a binding vow, this new skill or ability of her will not be out of the blue. And well, the explanation of binding vow her mostly based on my theory.
And if you—somehow—read my original story, you will find out that Maki here was scouted by Gojou rather than come to Tokyo by herself.
And I would say that Hachiman here used to attend the jujutsu high school in his first year. So, the traffic accident event which bound Hachiman-Yukino-Yui never happened. In other words, the three of them are strangers here. While in this fict, the first Yukinoshita he met was a "short-haired Yukinoshita".
Okay, that's all from me. Please review this chapter such as criticism, suggestions, or just your feedback about this chapter, because your reviews are my encouragement. And please do tell me if you find the grammatically error or typo so i can fix it. Thanks for reading and see you later.
Best regards, Aka Daka
