What to expect in this chapter: Alongside cooking with Chica in the her Mazercise exhibit and taking a look at the museum of the franchise, Sun introduces a new game to Gregory by playing an old classic game of using a box for anything they set their imaginations on. Gregory spots a storybook about the Princess Quest game.
Chapter 7- The Box
"How are you doing making your first pepperoni pizza Gregory?" Chica asks him as she supervises him on the how to cook a pizza on his own. After the nap incident when Vanny tried to break in and Gregory and Sun scared her off from disturbing them, the Glamrock chicken thought it would be a good idea to take Gregory to her Mazercise exhibit and teach him how to cook different foods in her kitchen. Gregory thought that learning how to cook those foods will help him out in the real world once he is old enough to cook on his own. Sun was fine with the arrangement since that he was planning on ordering something special for their next activity in the Daycare anyway, but he required Freddy and Roxy's help for it, so the bear and the wolf had to remain behind. Chica had given him a list of all the different pizzas he could start off with from the classics to the ones that are fully loaded. Gregory thought to start small first before attempting the tougher ones which is why he chose the pepperoni pizza.
"I think it is doing good. Now I just put it in the oven right?" Chica nods to Gregory's question as she sets the dials for the proper temperature and minutes to fully cook the pizza.
"While we are waiting for the pizza, would you like to play around the maze for a bit before I call you for lunch?" Chica asks him as she goes to take a seat in one of the chairs and rest for a bit.
Gregory shakes his head. "Actually I want to learn a little bit more about you and Freddy's origins at the start of the Fazbear company. When did you guys first started working as partners?" He takes a seat next to her as he wiggles his legs a bit on the tall revolving seat.
"Golly! Well, you already know about our start in the Mega Pizzaplex as mascots for the mall, but our real origins took place in the Freddy Fazbears Pizza restaurant back in 1985." Chica starts her story, explaining to Gregory of how the franchise started out with just two Animatronics, that being Fredbear and Spring Bonnie. They became so popular with the kids and adults that the company decided to expand and give their new restaurant two more members with Glamrock Freddys predecessor Freddy Fazbear and Bonnie the Bunny as the new mascots. Glamrock Chica's predecessor Chica the Chicken and Foxy the pirate fox came afterwards as the original team before Roxy and Monty came into the picture many years later.
"So... What happened to Bonnie and Foxy? Why are they not present here in the mall?" Gregory could see a look of sadness cross Chica's face as she puts her hand over his sadly. He knows that Bonnie Bowl is connected to an animatronic that he has yet to meet and that Freddy explained sadly that he doesn't come to Bonnie Bowl anymore and that he misses him. There was also the Kids Cove location close by to the Superstar Daycare and some pictures and sculptures of a fox with the gang and it was that very poster of them together in pirate themed outfits that gave Gregory the means to sneak into Sun's room.
"We haven't seen Foxy ever since Bonnie disappeared." Chica explains. "The last time we heard of what happened to Bonnie was when he entered Monty's Gator Golf. We miss him very much. But what I don't understand is why the employers were whispering about Monty being the culprit who caused it. They are either severely misinformed on the subject or they are trying to elevate Monty into being a bigger rockstar than Freddy and Bonnie put together. Anyway, that is only what the messages seem to say, but nobody knows what happened to him. As for Foxy, he disappeared after the incident with Bonnie. Unlike the messages we got about Bonnie's last known location, Foxy seems to have abruptly left no trace of his last location, like he doesn't want someone with evil intents to be one step ahead of him that he vanished, leaving no trail."
"Maybe sometime I better go search the Plex and see if I can find any trace of them." Gregory states softly as he tries to come up with a plan of action. Perhaps as soon as Monty is free, he should search for Bonnie and Foxy and reunite them with Chica and Freddy. The only known clues about Bonnie would be either in Gator Golf or in Bonnie Bowl. Maybe he and Freddy can take out two birds with one stone in that task? For Foxy it would be either in Kids Cove or in that western location with the cowboy suits, but something tells him that with the Moon plushy found in that location he should ask Moon himself if he remembers what happened to Foxy. Whether he got rid of the fox while corrupted by Vanny or not, that remains to be seen.
"Freddy and I tried to search them out for months before you came into the picture Sweetie." Chica exclaims as she rubs his head gently. Before she could continue to talk about the subject, the oven beeps loudly. "Oh! The pizza is ready! I'll go fetch it and get it ready. You can stay here Gregory." She runs off to get the pizza from the oven as Gregory is left to his thoughts on the possibility of finding Foxy and Bonnie. Once Chica got two pieces of pizza on the plate for Gregory, they ate the pizza quietly.
Once that was done, Gregory asked for Chica to take him to the museum exhibit of the Pizzaplex to showcase the history of the company and to see what the Animatronics looked like before they got the Glamrock makeover. "Where would you like to start in the museum Gregory?" She asks curiously. The location of the museum is pretty big and it circles all the way around the area. One side displayed Fredbears Family Diner, another showed the New Freddy Fazbears Pizza, still another for Fazbear Frights until the eventual start of the Pizzaplex.
"Lets start at the beginning." Gregory settles on starting at the source as he and Chica take their time to walk through the whole location. Starting with Fredbears Family Diner, he could see the giant gold bear and gold bunny standing on the stage as if they were frozen in time. Right in front of the stage were plaques that showed who the characters were and what sort of history they had during their time, both good and bad. The good part Gregory guessed was that he got Glamrock Freddy all because of how popular Fredbear was over the years and he was thankful for how far Freddy has come to this day. He read about Spring Bonnie and how he was a faithful companion to Fredbear. There was something both soothing, yet disturbing Gregory got just from looking directly at the giant gold bears eyes. He wasn't sure why, but he felt that if he made one wrong move, the bear would spring forward and bite him. He felt afraid for a moment at the bear, but only for a moment. As far as he knew, these were just museum replicas of the originals, they are not working like the Glamrocks.
He froze once he spots something in the plaque that told a story about the Bite of '83. It detailed the horrible incident with four pranksters who dragged a crying child to Fredbear as he was singing his song on stage, planning on making the poor boy 'kiss' the bear. All they did was put the boys head inside of Fredbears jaws as the pranksters were laughing at him... until the springlocks kicked in on Fredbear as it bites down hard on the boys head, knocking him into unconsciousness while the blood coursed down his head and the boy fell limp. By that point the pranksters stopped laughing the moment they saw the boy stopped moving. The plaque said that after the incident the boy was ran to the hospital as he was under a coma, only to die later in the night while holding his Fredbear plush. The sad part about that story, Gregory thought was that the day of the bite was supposed to be a happy day for the kid since it was his birthday, only to die at the hands of teenagers who didn't know things could go wrong. It made him fiercely angry to the point where he clenches his fists that one of the pranksters who led the kid to his death, was his own older brother.
"What happened to the older brother?" Gregory questions, his voice grew cold. There was nothing in the plaque that showed what happened afterwards. Was there nothing that showed how devastated the family was on the death of their son?
Chica responds simply, "Not much is known about what happened to the older brother soon after the incident. Although some sources said that he was plagued with nightmares about the incident. The nurses in the newspaper clippings stated that the person who stayed with the unconscious boy in the hospital was his older brother, and that he was shaking..." This gave Gregory pause as he considers that the older brother deserved to be cursed to relive that day over and over again for the rest of his life.
"If it said he was shaking in happiness for killing an innocent child like that, then that brother was a bad person! Why would he want to hurt someone who he is supposed to look after and protect?!" Gregory vents out his frustration in that part of the story.
Chica shakes her head at him. "No Sweetie, he was shaking in sorrow. He was calling to his brother, asking him if he can hear him and that he was sorry. I think he regretted his actions that day." Gregory didn't think that was possible. After reading some bits and pieces of evidence that the boy was terrorized at home by the brother, scaring him senseless with the faces of the Animatronics, making him fall down crying on the floor. If he had a brother like that, he wouldn't just forgive the person who killed him, he would make him pay for his actions. However, unlike the boy, Gregory had to learn to fight for himself out in the streets. But he doesn't know the full story of what the brother was thinking during that time, as Freddy puts it there are two sides to every story. He relaxes his stance and takes a breath to calm himself.
"Alright, I will try not to judge too harshly. Lets keep going through this area." He turns away from the first exhibit, feeling a sense of relief as he walks to the next exhibit. The next plaque and stage where it showed Freddy Fazbear, but this one was more chubbier and had red cheeks. The small blue bunny beside him had the same thing along with what appeared to be a younger version of Chica whose bib simply read 'Lets Party!'. She must be where Glamrock Chica got her feminine figure from. "Who is this?" Gregory asks as he points her out to his Chica.
"That is Toy Chica. She was introduced to the New Freddy Fazbears Pizza restaurant so that she can get adults and kids to have fun at parties." Chica said as she narrows her eyes in suspicion. "Though I have been told that according to my sources whenever the night guard who had to watch over the place would sometimes see her wandering around the building without her beak. Making her appear more scarier than the others. Though between you and me, I think Mangle is the scariest over the others." Gregory was just about to ask her who was Mangle, only to find a moment later that he spotted the figure of a white fox's head surrounded by an assortment of wires and what appeared to be another head by its side. Chica explains to him that many years ago, the kids couldn't keep their hands to themselves and that the employees tried to keep Toy Foxy back together until they gave up and let the kids do whatever they wanted to it. That was how it got the name Mangle.
Gregory shakes his head in disappointment for the employers. They should have done better to prevent something horrible like that! The Animatronics were not toys! He turns to see two other Animtronics on stage with the Toys, seeing one with a white mask and purple tears running down its face and another that looked vaguely familiar. "No way! That Balloon Boy is here too!" This one was the real deal he was seeing face to face, and the very one from the game that helped him set Sun and Moon free from the glitch virus.
"You sound pretty excited to see him Sweetie." Chica exclaims in shock as she sees Gregory waving hi silently to Balloon Boy.
"Of course I do! Why wouldn't I?" Gregory questions. She sounded like he wasn't supposed to like the guy who carries balloons around all day long for his job.
"Well, I have heard from a lot of people that they never really liked Balloon Boy because of what he did to the night guard before the Bite of '87 happened." Chica mentions. "He always seems to have a terrible habit of getting his hands on batteries in order to help Foxy kill the night guard."
"Okay..." Gregory awkwardly says as he doesn't really understand the notion behind that reason of why the robots did what they did. "...And what made them think it is okay to kill the night guard when he never did anything to them personally?" He read on one of the plaques that Jeremy Fitzgerald was a pretty nice night guard at the time.
Chica shakes her head. "The ghosts of the Missing Children possessing the Animatronics of the past thought that Jeremy was their murderer." She shows Gregory another stage where it was to personify the Parts/Services, showing the old withered looking Animatronics. Gregory's eyes grew wide in surprise at how Freddy looked in the past. He feels a little sorry for Bonnie in this one, seeing that the rabbit didn't have a face and only one arm. Withered Foxy kind of creeps him out, especially with how sharp that hook on his arm was and the sharp teeth in his jaws.
When he got to Withered Chica, he feels really sorry for Chica's predecessor. All of those extra robotic teeth looked pretty crowded and uncomfortable. She didn't even have any hands. He covers his mouth in pity for the chicken. They moved on to the next set in the museum, showing the main four Animatronics on stage, well, three of them anyway while Foxy had his own stage a few inches away from them. They looked to be as good as new. Chica explains that after the Bite of '87, the Toy Animatronics were scrapped and the employers decided to reuse their withered predecessors as the main Animatronics for the last restaurant in the line. She also told him of how the haunted Animatronics would go roam around at night after closing to stuff anyone they find into a Freddy Fazbear suit, the employers thought the robots would see them as metal endoskeletons without its costume on. Gregory was pretty disturbed by this information as he stares at the Freddy on stage. He was just glad that his Freddy would never do anything to harm him while this older Freddy would if given the chance.
"Bonnie and Foxy look pretty scary here, don't you think?" He mentions to Chica as he feels a cold chill on the back of his neck.
"I feel you Gregory. Bonnie at the time didn't have any eyebrows and he would give nightmares to some people. I heard he even stares into the camera with black eyes at night. Foxy never liked being watched by the cameras and he would run really fast to the security office to try to kill the security guard." Chica narrows her eyes at her predecessors beak for a moment. "I heard the old Chica was pretty touchy on being called a duck instead of a chicken."
"I thought the beak looked different!" Gregory hugs close to Chica's legs as they continued their walk while reading the bulletin boards the employers saved from the years, showing the names of the Five Missing Children and their pictures right across from the stage where the old Animatronics were. He read the names carefully from where he stood. Gabriel. Jeremy. Susie. Fritz. Cassidy. Charlotte Emily. Gregory felt a sudden hint of sadness over the loss of the kids lives, knowing that the missing kids in the Pizzaplex was a different matter all together. But there was something about the kids' names that seem to have been speaking to him. Something about them felt... familiar to him, but he doesn't know why that could be possible. Those kids lived in a different time, he is in the present and technically still alive while they have probably moved on after their death.
Taking a look at the Fazbear Frights, Gregory saw how dreary the place looked back at the time, like the place where the restaurant once was was left to ruin and turned into a horror exhibit. Only one Animatronic was shown, something that was called Springtrap. It looked really rusty and icky like it was left to rot for quite a long time. Stories from newspapers showed that the place burned down after just six days. There wasn't really much there for Gregory to have a look at, he didn't have any interest in knowing about it. Especially about the Animatronic, it gave him a sickening feeling of disgust at the display. He and Chica agreed that they will just take a quick run through and pass over it.
The Sister Location was something different Gregory wasn't expecting in the exhibit, showing on stage of four Animatronics, two as Foxy and Freddy with a hand puppet of bonnie, and two humanoid girl Animatronics, one as a ballerina Ballora and the other a clown named Circus Baby. If he thought Bonnie and Foxy were scary in the past, he was really quaking in his shoes when he saw a demonstration of the robots able to pull their face apart to see all the wires and parts on the inside of their faces. There was just a few newspaper clippings about a new restaurant with Rockstar Animatronics and some scrapped ones too, but there was no displays of the robots themselves or what the restaurant was like before it burned to the ground. All it showed for the casualties of the fire were two dead bodies, one being one of the old founders named Henry Emily and the other person who died with him was not named. He wasn't sure why, but out of them Circus Baby makes him narrow his eyes in caution.
Gregory decided this was enough as he and Chica return to the Superstar Daycare. Chica went immediately to Roxy's side to chat for a bit while Gregory goes to see how Freddy and Sun were doing in waiting for their package to arrive.
Sun appears to be having a staring contest with the upper deck of the Daycare as Gregory comes over to watch with him and Freddy. He knew that the Daycare Attendant must have ordered something at the mall with the money he got from using the swear jar to help him get rid of his bad habit, based on how empty the swear jar is right next to him. Sun raises one hand to his forehead as if to try to see better in the light. Usually he would be focused on entertaining Gregory and the gang and not watch out for something outside of his perimeter. "See anything Sunny?" Freddy asks as he looks around to see if they are missing something.
"I need my glasses Sunshine." Sun said as he takes two drinking glasses and uses them as binoculars. Gregory thought he should look with him too, only by using the Faz-watch to see if he can catch something Sun is missing. One second Sun was patiently waiting by tapping his right shoe as the bell on the tip jingled, but then he gasps. "Hmm… I see him! It's the M.A.I.L. bot! Freddy! Roxy! Chica! Get over to the door and help me with the box!"
Not only does the Pizzaplex have S.T.A.F.F. bots, security bots, and yes, even the M.A.P. bot which sometimes tries to jumpscare Gregory whenever he exits the area to just deliver a map to him, they also have one of their own mail bots to deliver any packages or send a letter to someone. All the bot wears is a white shirt and cap with the Fazbear Delivery logo sign as it is racing down the stairwell outside of the Daycare while carrying a box that is bigger than him.
"Its probably just glitter glue," Gregory thought to himself, guessing what exactly Sun had ordered from the M.A.I.L. bot. That was until he spots Sun, Freddy, Roxy and Chica struggling to pull something out from the box just as soon as it got delivered to them, making his eyes grow wide in shock. "Huh!? A brand new trampoline!?" Sure enough, there was a huge trampoline with a dark blue outside covering and a net to go along with it was carefully being put together. The girls were handing the parts over while the boys put them together. Once that was done, the four Animatronics teamed up to carry the thing out of the box and on a count of one to three, they throw the trampoline... into the dumpster.
Gregory was confused about why they would throw a brand new trampoline away as he stares silently at the Animatronics dragging the box inside the Daycare near the ball pit. He tries to point out this mistake to Freddy and Sun and ask them what were they thinking before he sees them jump inside of the box. First Freddy does a cannonball inside of the box without making a sound. Sun came after him by diving into it like he did for the ball pit. Roxy jumps in after them as she poses for one moment and leans backward into the box as smooth and graceful as a fish going back into the water. Finally Chica simply sneaks into the box while holding a finger to her lips as if it should remain a secret. "Just when I thought they couldn't get anymore crazy than this." The boy mutters to himself as he walks near to the box. "Let me guess, you used the money I found to order a brand new trampoline for the Daycare, just so you guys can play with the box?"
Sun, Freddy, Chica and Roxy poke their heads out from the top of the box as they each reply happily. "I was in the mood for something classic to play with in the Daycare and this box is the perfect tool for the job!" Sun exclaims with a smile and his white eyes slanted in glee.
"Pretty cool isn't it Gregory?" Chica comments lightly.
"I almost thought we wouldn't get a big enough box to fit all of us in here." Freddy said as he surveys how much room in the box he and the others have, seeing that they can fit a lot more occupants in here if they so choose.
"Are you planning on coming in here to play Gregory? We still have enough room for you to join us." Roxy comments as she beckons the boy to come in the box.
Gregory shakes his head. "I don't think so. Don't you guys think you need to do something more productive than play in a box?"
"Sunshine, we don't always need to be productive and be on the go all the time." Sun said as he motions with his hands to make a rainbow over his head. "Not as long as we use our imaginations to turn the box into something else entirely different. For example, I would pretend that I am a farmer driving a tractor to harvest some wheat or corn. Or I could pretend that the box is actually like DJ Music Mans stage and play some crazy tunes." With each suggestion Sun demonstrates with his hands like he is driving a wheel or turning something on the tip of the box.
"You could be a rockstar too!" Roxy exclaims in excitement. To which Gregory tries to argue that she is already a rockstar. "See Hot Shot, it works!"
"Thanks for the offer but I think I will just do some arts and crafts instead. You guys can have your fun." Gregory said as he shrugs his shoulders. Though Freddy, Chica and Roxy were disappointed to hear that, Sun understood as he nods his head.
"Very well, Sunshine. But if you change your mind, you are always free to come join us." Sun said as he allows Gregory be to do his own thing. Freddy was a bit concerned about this as he gets ready to ask Sun why he is giving up on convincing Gregory to come play with them, but Roxy explains to him in his ear about what Sun might be planning, to which the bear decides to play along by nodding his head silently. "So guys, which one shall we do first?"
"Lets pretend we are swimming in the Ocean looking for fish!" Chica exclaims as she and the others close the top above them to start their imagination game. At first Gregory thinks that they are just going to be playing around with nothing inside the box to entertain them, but the moment the box closed up was when he heard something that was not supposed to be in there; it sounded like they were scuba diving in the water. While they were inside, he could hear them commenting here and there on the fish they were seeing while swimming in the box. Freddy claims that he saw a pufferfish puffing up. Chica saw a school of guppies swimming around her. Sun said that Freddy has to protect him from a shark coming straight for them. And Roxy scared the shark away as she bumps into some jellyfish.
'Dang! What the heck did those guys do to the box to make it seem so exciting to play!?' Gregory thought to himself in mild curiosity. He shakes his head and tries to focus on drawing some pictures and making paper airplanes and boats. But while he was doing that, he couldn't help but hear the fun that the Animatronics were getting into. While Chica started their game by scuba diving in the water, Freddy was next as he hears the sounds of laser guns blasting, making it sound like it was Fazerblast in actual life. 'How are they even doing that?' It almost makes him curious enough to abandon his arts and crafts to check out the box. Almost. He wasn't going to give in to that silly little game. He decided to calm his curiosity by crawling around the play structures, but that didn't satisfy him to the point on forgetting about the excitement his friends were doing in the box.
It was Roxy's choice of game next as she chose cops and robbers while the sounds of police cars were echoing inside of the box. From what it sounded like outside, Roxy and Freddy were teaming up in one car while Chica and Sun were in another trying to catch the robbers. "No Mikey don't do it!" Roxy calls in authority as she hears someone calling back to her. 'You will never take me alive coppers!'
This was getting to be pretty hard for Gregory to resist the temptation to just go in there and see what all the excitement was about. So slowly but surely he starts to creep closer to the box, unsure of what will happen if he disturbs the party inside. But then he chickens out as he figures he can just go play in the ball pit for a little while. He would have played in there in peace if no one had dared to give him a spook in the ball-pit, namely a certain gator that decided to just show up out of nowhere looking for the boy who catapulted his target out of the pit in a fright. "Little guy. Little guy." Monty can be heard calling quietly in the ball-pit as he wasn't aware of flinging Gregory into the air and making him land right near the box. With no sign of the boy as far as he could see, the hacked gator just shrugs his shoulders and moves on out the Daycare to continue searching for his target.
Once Gregory found that he landed just at the tip of touching the side of the box, he could hear the cops and robbers game be put on pause as Freddy and Suns heads popped out from the top. "Yippee! Gregory is coming in!" Freddy exclaims while grabbing the boy really quickly before the kid could even get a chance to step away from the box and shuts the box up to pick up right where they left off in the game.
Monty pauses one moment, thinking he spotted Gregory before he got taken away by the other Animatronics, while staring in silence and minor annoyance that the whole gang was playing around instead of catching their target and bringing him to Vanessa.
"Okay, now that we got the whole gang together, it will be your turn to choose our next imagination game in the box Starbeam!" Sun can be heard in the box from the outside. "Freddy already got his turn, so did Chica and Roxy. All that is left is you and me to select our next game!" Monty can be seen shaking his head in the background as if thinking these guys are lame in playing with a box. His eyes did wander over to the trampoline that is in the dumpster. The gator wondered to himself how on earth they ordered that new trampoline and put it to the trash.
"I don't think whatever I can choose in here will work while I'm inside Sun." Gregory tries to chicken out of the game, but we can hear Freddy patting him on the head. "I have no idea how you guys are able to make things more exciting from this imagination you guys have."
"Everybody has some imagination Gregory, even you do." Freddy reassures him with a smile. "All we just need to do is help you get your imagination juices running, then it will be a blast for you. So far we have traveled underwater with the fishes, we have chased down cops and robbers, and we have shot down aliens in space. Would you like to try one of those locations with us this time? Or would you like to try something different that we haven't done before?"
Gregory gave this some thought as he says. While it is tempting to just go for shotting aliens, he wanted to do something different they haven't done before. "Let's play some mountain climbing adventure Freddy!"
"Ok! Lets imagine we are in the mountains climbing up to the top!" Freddy smiles in response to Gregory getting on board with the gaming spirit.
Sun begins the game by calling off a list of items they need in mountain climbing. "Hats?"
Gregory replies. "Check!"
"Gloves?"
Chica replies while shivering in the cold. "C-C-Ch-Check! B-Buck its cold over here!"
"Blankets?"
Roxy replies. "Check!"
"Fizzy Faz?"
Freddy responds, pretending to get his tongue stuck on the frozen drink. "Check!"
"Underwear?"
Gregory sounds like he is trying to look closely underneath his pants. "Uh… Check!"
"Great! Now we can start our climb!" Sun's voice sounded pleased from inside of the box.
"You got it!" Freddy chimes happily as he sounds like he is starting to climb fast inside of the box. Back outside Monty was quite impressed with all of the sound effects he was hearing like he was watching one of those old radio shows.
"Freddy you are going too high!" Gregory warns from inside the box.
"Take it easy there sunshine!" Sun agrees with Gregory to try to get Freddy to stop climbing so fast.
"I'll take it easy when I am stuffed in a suit!" Freddy whoops in excitement. "I am shaking hands with Scott! WOO-HOO! Excelsior!" From the way it sounds the gang are busy in trying to catch up to Freddy on the mountain.
"Try to keep your voice down Freddy! You don't want to cause an avalanche!" Roxy warns while Freddy calls back.
"What should we keep down?"
"OUR VOICES!" Roxy answers in a screech.
Monty decided he had enough of this nonsense as he motions his left foot to the box and kicks it. "Would you Neanderthals' knock it off!" But the moment he kicked the box, there came the sound effects of a avalanche inside of the box. All he could hear from outside was the whole gang screaming in fright and being rolled around nonstop from the snow piling up on them. It went on for only twenty seconds until the snow stops and the gang could be heard crying in pain from the event. Even though he was hacked to not feel sorry in causing people pain, Monty felt taken aback by the pain he caused to the box as he leans on it to try to find out if anything was wrong. "Guys?" Monty touches one finger to the top of the box before another avalanche came on, causing them to scream yet again from the snow.
"Gregory, are you okay?" Freddy acts like he is crying in pain from inside the box.
"Hang in there Hot Shot, the helicopters are on the way." Roxy said as if trying to console the kid.
"My legs are frozen solid Freddy!" Gregory whines from the pain. "You guys are going to have to cut them off with a saw." At the mention of this, it made the gator feels a slight concern for the little guy that he is sweating just thinking about it.
"I'm afraid we can't do that Gregory." Sun sadly states from inside the box.
"Why not Sun?" Gregory asks him.
"Because Freddy and Roxy already cut off their own arms while Chica and I had to cut off our legs." Sun answers brokenheartedly.
"NO!" Gregory screams in sorrow as Monty can't handle the suspense of standing on the sidelines in the game anymore. So the gator decides to take action and open up the box...
Only to find that they are all fine and the sound effects stopped. But at the sight of being caught by the gator, Gregory huddles behind Sun and Freddy while Roxy and Chica give their remaining band member a look of confusion. Monty quirks an eyebrow in aggravated confusion. "How are you all doing that?"
"By imagination Monty!" Chica answers with a smile.
"But what about the sound effects? The climbing? The avalanche?" Monty starts to list off the things he had heard while listening to them playing their game. His eyes wandered to the trampoline again as if tempted to just go take the item for himself.
"Don't forget the second avalanche!" Freddy chimes in with his comment all while making sure Monty is not watching to see where Gregory is hiding. Monty just stops talking and looks at Freddy with a glare like he didn't need to know about that detail of the game.
"Right," Monty says sarcastically while narrowing his eyes under the star sunglasses. "While you guys are just playing around doing kid games, I am the only one here who is working hard to find our little intruder in the Pizzaplex. The little guy needs to be apprehended as quickly as possible! But more importantly, can I have the trampoline Daycare Attendant?"
"Sure." Sun quickly answers as he and the rest of the gang watch in silence as Monty casually says 'Oh boy!' and takes the trampoline out of the trash and runs off with it. For the remainder of the playtime, they just stayed in the box and played one more game in there before naptime arrives. The last game they did in the box was Sun's choice and he imagined that they are in a school classroom where he is pretending to teach math to Gregory and the gang.
Once nighttime came to the Daycare, Freddy, Roxy and Chica were about ready for their naps as they each stepped out of the box to stretch their arms and legs. "I am going to need to refuel my imagination tanks." Freddy yawns while the girls nodded their heads in agreement. Their batteries were getting low anyway so they are planning on staying in their bedrooms and recharge while they are there.
Moon casually hops out of the box as he makes sure that his friends can get themselves to bed for the night. "Shall I make sure that the door is open for you guys if you plan on coming back here for naptime?" He offers kindly while the bear, chicken and wolf shake their heads silently.
"All I am wondering Moon is how come Freddy, Roxy and Chica have to go recharge all the time while you and Sun don't? Don't you get burned out from playing and watching the kids all the time?" Gregory questions as he now just realized that Sun and Moon have never once went to a recharge station while the others do.
Moon responds rather simply to the question. "We do have to recharge. But our protocols are different compared to the Glamrocks. Sun takes up majority of the battery usage since he takes care of 40 hyperactive children a day. I'm not meant to be out for long since my job is mainly making sure you take your naps. While I am out, Sun gets to rest and recharge his side of the battery and it goes the same way with me in reverse."
Gregory nods with a sad frown on his face. It must be pretty difficult for the Daycare Attendant to have to share a battery, body and all. "If I could, wouldn't you guys like to have your own separate bodies so that you don't have to share one body?"
"Unfortunately the cheapskates in charge won't entertain the idea." Moon answers sullenly as Gregory frowns sadly at him. He puts his right hand on the boys head in comfort. "Its okay little Starlight. I actually like the way things are! I wouldn't want Sun to cause a ruckus during naptime anyway."
"Well we can still dream about it, can't we Moony?" Sun speaks quietly in the speaker. Moon nods as he agrees with Sun in that regard.
"Now, lets focus on getting you ready for your nap. Eh? What are you trying to do Gregory?" Moon spots something a little strange coming from Gregory as he notices the boy climbing out from the box and getting his Chica pajamas before setting off back to the box.
"I think I'm going to sleep in the box this time for my nap." The boy replies as he gathers what seems to be newspapers for his blanket. Already in Moon's sensors, he is detecting something about this behavior is not right. Children don't sleep well with newspapers and neither should they sleep in boxes! He can't have the boy wake up all uncomfortable and cranky after sleeping in such tight quarters.
Moon gasps in horror at the thought as he swiftly grabs the back of Gregory's shirt and pulls him out of the box before he even thinks about resting his head in there. "Sleeping in a box?! That is for puppies and kittens you naughty boy!"
"But that was where I always slept-" Gregory stops short as he realizes he let one of his closely guarded secrets out of the bag.
"You were sleeping in a box at night Superstar?!" Freddy was horrified by this realization as he pops his head out of the recharge station and could be heard through the faz-watch on Gregory's wrist.
"With no one to care for you and tuck you in at night?!" Chica chokes on her tears as she clenches her hands near her beak in worry for the child through the watch.
"Okay, WHO among your parents thought it was a bright idea to let you do that?!" Roxy angrily questions as she speaks through the watch. She had to be corrected by Freddy for a moment as he tells her the truth that Gregory confessed to Sun at the beginning of the adventures in the Daycare. Even though the boy couldn't see her expressions in the watch, he could hear something in Roxy's voice changed really fast from ticked off to empathy and sorrow as she looks at Freddy quietly. "Oh... I'm sorry..."
As for Moon, he and Sun knew that Gregory was an orphan, but they would have never dreamed that he was a homeless orphan! It was horrifying to find out that this boy that caused trouble for them in the beginning was used to sleeping in a box. Talking quietly to Sun through his own speaker, he mutters, "We should have just ordered a new bed instead of a trampoline." Sun agreed wholeheartedly as he is trying his best not to cry in despair. Someday, they are going to have to investigate how Gregory got himself into that predicament.
Did his parents die and left him all alone with no one to care for him? Did he run away from home? If so, what was the reason? Or worse, did the parents abandon him without a second thought? Was he kidnapped with no way of getting back home? How long has he been all alone out in the streets? Those questions would have to wait for another day.
Moon shakes his head as he gets himself back to the present. "You are NOT sleeping in a box while you are under my watch in the Daycare Gregory! Once you and the others get back Freddy, get rid of the box before Gregory gets any ideas to sleep in there and throw it in the trash where it belongs." He briefly tells this command to the Glamrocks in the watch. While keeping his grip on the back of the boys shirt, he walks him over to a book shelf in the napping corner. "Tonight for naptime, why don't we select which storybook to read before putting you to sleep?"
Gregory didn't think any of the books Sun and Moon had on the shelf were of any interest to him at first. He is silently just traversing through each book one at a time to see if any of them perk his curiosity while Moon goes back to fetch a blanket and pillow. From Curious George to Franklin the turtle and to a giant red dog Clifford to some National Geographic books on animals, rocks, minerals and planets, he passes over them... Until something in the stack made his eyes grow wide in surprise. "Huh? A Princess Quest storybook? I didn't think there was a storybook based on the game!" In his hands was what appeared to be a chapter book with pictures and on the center of the cover was the gold Princess herself. But along with the princess there appeared to be a small light blue character that was hiding behind her, almost as if he was afraid to look at what the princess is facing with a determined smile on her face. He turns to Moon while holding the book out with his hand. "Hey Moon, have you read this book to any of the kids at bedtime? This one seemed to have been buried under the book pile."
Moon responds with a surprised smile. "Oh! Not very many of the kids were after that storybook. They usually went for the other books they know and love. But sure, we can read that together before your nap!" Gregory hands him the book as he gets comfortable in his blanket while sitting close by to the Daycare Attendant. "We will start at the beginning..." Moon opens up the cover to start reading the first chapter. It was a blank page that said simply: The Gold Princess and the little Blue Prince.
The first picture showed the Gold Princess looking at the little Blue Prince hiding in a bush. "Our story begins a very, very, long time ago with the Gold Princess starting off on her adventure through her kingdom. One day, this princess spotted a black slimy rabbit monster trying to terrorize a small light blue boy. She raced over quickly to defeat the rabbit monster and saved the boy from danger." Moon turns the next page, showing a new picture. This one was just with the gold princess and the mystery boy she found. Gregory could see the boy was crying based on the tears in his eyes. "'What's your name? Are you lost?' the Princess asked the small blue boy. 'I'm Evan, the light blue Prince and I am looking for my family.' Said the little Prince who had been waiting day and night." The page turns as the picture changes to show the princess giving the boy a pinky promise. Something about that gesture made Gregory smile to himself while Moon tells the story. "'Don't worry! I will help you find them!' The Princess promises to the little Blue Prince."
Moon turns the page, showing the picture of the gold princess and the prince leisurely waiting in what appears to be the princesses bedroom looking at the window. Gregory thought it was strange that the gold princess has some hints of black and red coloring next to the gold coloring. Some hearts can be found on her carpet and on her pictures around the open window they are staring from. "By nightfall, the princess borrowed her mentors lantern and sword as she peers over her castle to the hills. She looked and looked, but she saw no sign of the little Blue Prince's family coming to look for him. Hours turned into days and then weeks, but still no one came to her castle to retrieve the boy. Finally, the princess sighed and said to the prince, "If we stay here waiting much longer, I'll be an old lady soon." But then she had an idea. "Why don't we go out there and find your family ourselves?" Moon turns another page as a new image shows up, this one showing the prince carrying the lantern and the princess carrying her sword as they are walking through the forest. "The princess and the prince chose their weapons and prepared to set off on a new adventure. This is how the princess' search for the princes family began."
As Moon closes the book, Gregory could be heard asking, "That's all for tonight? Can't we at least do one more chapter?" Moon chuckles, seeing that the story has got Gregory wrapped around its finger like all other children who get so entrenched into their bedtime stories.
"There will be more tomorrow, right now we are just starting with one chapter so that you get ready for what happens next." Moon reassures as he pats Gregory's head.
"You better at least give me two more chapters for tomorrow! I don't want to be stuck on a cliffhanger!" Gregory states softly as he begins to snuggle in the blanket all while Moon just laughs happily.
