Chapter 3: Happy Results and Sad Goodbyes
Almost all of the Kaminari family were nervous in the days since the Entrance Exam. Marie and Denki had decided to stay in Japan until they actually received the results of their children's Exam. There was no doubt that they had done their best, however, there was also no doubt that there were many great participants that year. Lightning and werewolf Quirks were good, but against other Quirks that could blast fire, lasers, control stone and cement, and even control shadows, was it enough? They were especially worried for Kaoru, whose Quirk was useless against the robots and had essentially fought them Quirkless; using only his natural athleticism and martial arts skills against them.
Finally, after several days, the results arrived in the mail of Kayama Nemuri, and Denki's parents were called immediately so the entire family could see the results. So was Marie's younger brother, Joseph Jerome Freeman Jr. aka Joey, and his wife, Eri. They brought their two kids, their 6 year old son, Joseph Jerome Freeman III, aka JJ, and their 3 year old daughter, Mirai. JJ had his parents' silver hair, milk chocolate toned skin that was lighter than his Father's but darker than his Mother's, his Mother's red eyes, and two horns unlike her. He appeared to have inherited Eri's Rewind Quirk, only having a second horn meant he also had better control over it. Mirai seemed to have inherited Joey's Wolfman Quirk along with one golden eye and one red eye from each parent along with skin the same as her brother's. The young cousins were bouncing around excitedly to see their Aunt and Uncle, and older cousins.
"Are you going to UA!?"
"Are you gonna be Heroes!?"
"Are we getting ice cream after?"
And a million other questions little kids would ask were asked as they anxiously waited for their older cousins to open their envelopes and show their results. "I guess I'll go first," Kaoru finally said once everyone settled down. No one spoke as he ripped open his envelope and a silver disk fell out. A hologram immediately activated, and showed an image of none other than Deku, Earth's Greatest Hero! Everyone gasped in surprise, there were no reports that he was joining the faculty of U.A.! "I know this must be a surprise," the green clad Hero said on the hologram, "But it's true, it's me, Deku, and I'll be joining UA's staff this year. So, I'll be doing the videos for all the potential Heroes-in-Training. Now, for you, Kaoru Kaminari."
Deku lifted a remote to show a screen activating showing Kaoru's score, 99 points! "Congratulations, you passed the Exam with flying colors. Not only displaying amazing combat prowess despite your Quirk being unsuited for direct combat, but also displaying true heroism by helping rescue your fellow Examinees! This is a secret test that is hidden, so that all prospective students may demonstrate whether they truly have what it takes to be Heroes. Welcome, Kaoru Kaminari, to your Hero Academia!" Deku reached out his hand in the hologram, and Kaoru was so amazed he reached out to it before it deactivated.
"Me next!" Mysa excitedly yelled as she tore open her envelope. The silver disk fell out and Deku's hologram again appeared. "I know this must be a surprise," he said again, and introduced himself and announced he was joining UA just like in Kaoru's. "Now, for your results, Mysa Kaminari."
Deku pressed the remote to show the screen and her score, 115 points! "Congratulations, you have passed the Exam with flying colors. Your unique combination of Lycanthrope and Electrification left quite an impression as you excelled in combat against the robots. However, being a Hero is more than just fighting, it's also helping those in need. And you more than showed this by helping to rescue your fellow Examinees when you saw they were wounded. This is a secret test to ensure that only those with true heroic intentions will act as they should. You have proven that you indeed have what it takes to become a Hero. Welcome, Mysa Kaminari, to your Hero Academia!" Mysa cheered as she heard the news, jumping up and down like a little kid she was so excited, "I knew it knew it KNEEWWWW IIIIITTTTT!"
Once Mysa calmed down Hana decided it was her turn and tore open her envelope. Her silver disk fell out and the hologram of Deku appeared and introduced himself like the previous two. "Now, for your results, Hana Kaminari." Deku used the remote to turn on the screen and showed her score was 101 points! "You more than proved your prowess and skill with your Electrification Quirk. However, being a Hero is about more than fighting, it's also about protecting those in need. You proved this when you helped save your fellow Examinees and boosted your score. This is a secret test only for those with true heroic intentions to act like Heroes. And I'd say you've proven that you have what you'll need to be a Hero. Welcome, Hana Kaminari, to your Hero Academia!"
Hana had tears in her eyes and her Mom wrapped her in a hug. "I told you, you could do it. I told you," her Mom assured her. Hana dried her eyes, and it was finally Josuke's turn. He tore open his envelope and the hologram appeared. After Deku's introduction he said, "And now you're your results, Josuke Kaminari." Deku pushed the button on the remote and showed that his score was 89 points. "You have passed the test with your ferocious fighting, but also your actions when you saw your fellow Examinees in danger. This is a secret test, to see who truly has heroic spirit inside of them. By helping to rescue your fellow Examinees, you proved that you are indeed on the right path to becoming a Hero. Welcome, Josuke Kaminari, to your Hero Academia!" Josuke smiled and said, "Piece of cake."
After this, there was a party for the young students. The retired Hero Midnight ordered pizza and cake and ice cream for her grandchildren, and a happy feast was made to celebrate Kaoru, Mysa, Hana, and Josuke's success and hopeful future careers as Heroes. As they celebrated, Denki, Marie, and Nemuri; aka Chargebolt, Wolfheart, and Midnight, told the young students stories of their own adventures in UA High. Nemuri had just finished telling them about her original Hero outfit, and while the boys were embarrassed, the girls were laughing their heads off. "Wow, Grandma," Hana said as she finished a glass of soda, "You really were the Eighteen Plus Only Heroine." Nemuri stood up and smiled, "Of course. That was the best way to use my Quirk back then. Though now they have better tech to use in your costumes, I chose to just be simple, and sexy!" She struck a pose that was her trademark back in the day, and everyone laughed; it wasn't as sexy now that she was in her 50's and wearing normal clothes.
In time though, the celebrations had to end, and everyone went to bed with the sobering knowledge that the next day, Marie and Denki would be going back to America. Nemuri was ready to take care of her grandchildren; the family spent almost all their vacations in Japan so the quadruplets could see their extended family, but their parents had never left them before. This would be something new for them all.
Dawn broke the next day, and everyone got ready for the departure. They were all quiet for breakfast, with only a few polite words to ask to pass the salt or pepper. Once breakfast was over, the family took the train to the airport. It was a new experience for the quadruplets, they would have been more excited if it wasn't for the fact that they were so melancholy about their parents leaving. And finally, they arrived at the airport.
Marie and Denki turned to their four children at the entrance to the airport, and the grandparents stood back a little so they could talk to their children. Denki started, "Kaoru, Hana, Mysa, Josuke, I want you to know that I am extremely proud of you. You all passed your exam with flying colors, and your scores all blow mine out of the water. Your Mother and I trained you the best we could, now it's UA's turn. You will be put through the ringer; I can promise you. You will be pushed to your limits and beyond them. But I know that you all are brave enough, tough enough, and strong enough to make it. You will be four of the best Heroes in the world by the time you're done. Remember to take care of each other, and don't be afraid to make new friends too. UA is hard, but it can also be the some of the best years of your life."
He hugged and kissed all of them in turn, and then Marie said her piece. "Your Father's right, kids. UA is tough, but that's why it's the best. And I know that you'll be among the best of your generation. All of you are stronger than we were when we were your age, and all of you have the hearts of True Heroes. Mina came to visit us while you guys were out with your grandparents yesterday, and she told us all about what you did during the Exam. She even told us, 'That was when I knew for sure they were your kids.' No matter what, don't ever forget that, and don't ever give up. Always remember UA's motto, Plus Ultra, Further Beyond. Always go further beyond, and you'll become great." Marie kissed all her kids, and then she and Denki went to get on their plane. Everyone watched them depart, but no tears were shed. The great adventure was beginning.
