Chapter 14: Hero Names and Double Dates
Class 1-A was abuzz with excitement after their Battle Trial and all the autographs from Deku yesterday. Many of them couldn't imagine what else they could do after such an amazing time. They quieted down when Creati-sensei came in. "Alright everyone, I do believe that it's time for you to do something very important for a Hero. It's time for you to decide your Hero Names!" She was quickly drowned out by the cheers of the students, until she finally needed to blow a loud whistle to restore order. But she still smiled at them, "I had the same reaction when it was my turn to decide my Hero Name. My generation did it sooner than yours. I decided to wait to allow you to explore your abilities more and decide who you want to be. A Hero Name is important, it tells people who you are, it conveys an image you wish to show. Your name can make or break your Hero career."
Creati-sensei then pulled out twenty writing pads and markers from her arms and passed them out, "Now, I want you all to take fifteen minutes to think seriously about what you want to be called as Heroes. Remember, it needs to be memorable, and it needs to be something to make people excited, to know that 'The Hero is here to save us!'." Everyone took their marker and writing pad and immediately started thinking. Some students mumbled to themselves, while a few immediately wrote down their Hero Name, while others started a name only to erase it and think again.
Kaoru and Mysa took their time to try to figure out what they wanted their Hero Names to be. Kaoru quietly mumbled, "Sleeper…Sleeper Agent…Knockout…nah…" Mysa on the other hand was quiet as she tapped her chin and thought about her powers. Lightning and werewolf…an interesting combination. Her name could reflect her Quirks, or she could think of something unrelated, like the old Hero Endeavour, not exactly a name for someone with a Fire Quirk. It was a real problem now that she seriously thought about it.
Time passed and ten minutes in Kaoru finally knew who he wanted to be and wrote down his Hero Name in English and Japanese. Two minutes after her brother, Mysa wrote down her Hero Name as well in both languages. Creati-sensei blew her whistle and said, "Alright, let's begin. Samerya Hisa, you're first." Hisa stepped in front of the class and presented her writing pad. "I am the Ocean Hero: Shark Gal," she announced. There was some small applause, but it wasn't a very original Hero Name. The next up was Miura Hiroshi. The energy draining teen walked up with a smile and said, "I am the Vampire Hero, Vampergy." This earned a louder applause for creativity.
After Miura, Ishida Ishi stepped up. The rock manipulator girl smiled as she said, "I am the Immovable Hero, Bolder!" This earned some loud applause from Kaoru and Mysa, and the other students who understood the meaning and rhyme of her Hero Name. When she sat down, Chiba Hiromasa stepped up. The razor leaf boy declared, "I am the Forest Hero: Leaf." It was a name that rolled off the tongue and was a modest success. Next up was Bakugo Nao, and she stomped forward as she said, "You can call me: The Firecracker!" This was a good name for a Hero, and everyone cheered at it. She smirked at Mysa as she went to her seat, and Mysa would have flipped her off if Kaoru hadn't stopped her.
Tetstutetsu Banzan walked up then and proudly declared, "I am Power Fist!" This got a cheer mostly from the guys in class with some girls. When he sat down, Ojiro Haru stepped up and showed his Hero Name. "You can call me: The Chameleon." This got a cheer when everyone understood, it was the perfect name for someone with his combination of Quirks. Ojiro sat down and next came Tokoyami Mika. The girl with the Dark Shadow and Frog Quirks declared, "I am Shadow Mistress." This was a cool name, and just about everyone agreed that it fit her. Up next was Ibara Shin, who used his Vines to lift his sign, "Just call me, Thorn." Some cheered, some didn't. It suited his Quirk, but they weren't sure about whether it was a good Hero Name.
When Ibara sat down, Honda Yuta got in front of the class and said, "My Hero Name will be, Hypnotist." People cheered for it; it was perfect for his Quirk. Honda sat down and Martin Thomson stepped up and declared, "I will be Heavy Gunner!" The boys all cheered at the machismo while half the girls groaned at the same. Kurihara Miyuki walked up next and said, "I am: Yukihime." This earned her a cheer from everyone, and she sat down happily as Miyake Koichi stepped forward. He declared, "I am the Bringer of Light: Apollo." Some were surprised at this, the name suited him, Apollo was a sun god after all, but his aesthetic didn't fit it too well.
Miyake sat down and Ito Ogami walked up and scratched his head. "I hope I can do a good job with this: Call me Okami Man," he said. Some cheered, but most didn't' think it was too good, and Ito went back to his desk, embarrassed. Creati-sensei said, "Don't worry if your first name doesn't get the response you want. You have plenty of time to figure out a new one. Remember, it needs to be a name that tells people who you are and brings hope to them."
Next up was Kida Kohana, who bounced up to the front of the class and cheerily said, "I am: Ohana!" The name was definitely striking, as she wrote it she was essentially calling herself 'Queen Flower' or 'Flower Queen' in Japanese. It certainly got everyone's attention. After her, Nakamura Yasuo stepped up and showed his name, "Call me Rebound!" That one got a good response, and he was smiling as he sat down. Ozaki Dai stepped up then and declared, "I am: Blaster!" It was short but made his point.
Sakurai Sally happily stepped up as she said, "You can all call me: Sleeping Beauty." Everyone applauded at this, it was a name that suited her Quirk very well, and she smiled as she sat back down. Mysa then stepped up and took a deep breath before she said, "This is the best I can do. My Hero Name will be: Thunderwolf!" People cheered this name, it sounded powerful. This left Kaoru for last, and the large teen nervously stepped up as he declared, "Call me: Sleeper Agent!" To his relief, his Hero Name got a good response, and he happily sat down next to his sister. "You worried over nothing," she said with a playful shove.
And in Class 1-B, Vine-sensei had the same idea as Creati-sensei, and all of the students were finishing up making their own Hero Names. They were all excited to see what sorts of names everyone came up with. And the first student up was Jiro Akira. The purple haired boy smiled and said, "You can call me, Vibebro." This was met with a good response, and he sat down, his sharp teeth on display. After Jiro stepped up Ojiro Haruno. She smiled as she said, "I will be, Camouflage." This was cheered on by her classmates, and she returned happy to her desk. Next up was Komori Fujio. The Mushroom boy nervously said, "I'm Fungi." It wasn't as loud a cheer as for Haruno, but he still got a good response and sighed in relief as he took his seat. After he sat down, Honenuki Akiko stepped up. "I will be, Mudwoman!" she happily said, and got cheers, everyone recognized that she took the name from her father, Mudman.
Honenuki Akiko sat down, and Jason Rin stepped forward. "I will go by, Launcher!" he declared. It took everyone a moment to understand, but then when he launched his scales and horns, everyone understood and cheered for him. Jason Rin sat down and Hado Kentaro walked up. He smiled as he said, "Call me, Uzumaki." This got a good applause, the name perfectly described his abilities. Akiyama Kaya then stood up and declared, "I shall be: Tara." This also received a healthy applause, she chose to be named for a female deity of love, compassion, and longevity, it was a good name for a Hero. Akiyama sat down, and Gota Nami stepped up. She smiled as she said, "I am the water goddess, Suijin." She got a good applause for this name and was smiling wider as she returned to her desk.
Fukushima Mugen was nervous as he walked up to the front. The muscular teen declared, "I am taking my name from an old book series. Call me: Tarzan!" This got a slight applause from Josuke and Hana and Tenko, but no one else. "Oh, come on! You guys never heard of Tarzan?" Hana said out loud. "It's okay," Fukushima said as he sat down. Hirose Rei patted Fukushima's shoulder as he walked up with a cocky grin and said, "Just call me: Kiru." He then cut the air with his Energy Claws Quirk, and the class cheered, it perfectly matched his Quirk and aesthetic. Next up was Iida Tenko who had a determined expression on her face. "No doubt, you know that I come from the Ingenium Dynasty of Heroes. However, I wish to be known by my own name. I choose to be called: Torque," she declared. She got a decent amount of cheers for her choice of name and looked satisfied as she sat down.
Juba Takashi walked up and happily said, "Call me Copier." That got a nice response as he walked back to his desk, and then Kato Shiro flew to the front and said, "I am: Rocket Man!" This had mixed reactions from everyone; and he looked slightly embarrassed as he walked back to his desk. Matsuru Leiko walked up and with all her moxie said, "I am: Invincible Girl!" She didn't even wait for a response as she went back to her desk, still looking proud of herself. Nagai Taro walked up and declared, "I am: Stretchy!" That made everyone clap, it was a unique and happy sounding Hero Name.
Oishi Sayo walked up and self-consciously said, "You can call me Rock Woman." That got a decent response from everyone, and she looked happier as she went back to her desk. Saito Kentaro walked up and told everyone, "Call me: Solar Man!" This also got a mixed reaction and he looked confused as he walked back to his desk. Tamanaha Kin was next and she said, "My Hero Name will be: Kinko!" This got an applause and she went back to her desk all smiles. Josuke was the second to last 1-B student to walk up and he took a deep breath before saying, "I'm going to be carrying on a family tradition. I'll be: Wolfheart." This got a healthy amount of applause, since everyone recognized the name of Wolfheart thanks to the upcoming movie about her and Chargebolt, and Josuke was all smiles as he sat down.
This left Hana as the last student to walk up, and she was confident as she declared, "My Hero Name will be Volt Edge!" This got a great response from their classmates, and her smile was wide as she sat down, and saw Tenko was applauding loudly. Hana sat down and wondered if she should shoot her shot or not.
After this, classes proceeded as normally for the students, those with the best responses were all uplifted while those with not so good responses from their classmates were left wondering what they could do to come up with better names.
After this, classes proceeded as normally for the students, those with the best responses were all uplifted while those with not so good responses from their classmates were left wondering what they could do to come up with better names. Once classes were over, Josuke headed for the showers and got dressed in his regular clothes. Hana spotted him walking and asked, "Where are you going?"
Josuke smiled and said, "I'm going to see about getting permission to take Hisa off campus to a date." Maybe it was the fact she was riding high from the response to her Hero Name, maybe it was jealousy, but Hana said, "I'll go too. We'll make it a double date."
Josuke snorted and said, "With who?"
They were in the 1-B common room and Hana looked over at Tenko. Josuke got serious then and whispered, "You sure, Sis? I remember how you reacted in middle school when you tried asking other girls out. You were shot down how many times? I figured you had a better shot with Hirose, I can tell that guy is into you."
Hana shrugged and scratched her head, "It's hard, alright? I think they're both hot, Rei seems like a good guy, while Tenko's pretty-cool too. If it doesn't work out…I don't know. I just want to try, alright?" Josuke shrugged and said, "Alright. I just hope that she's not the type to talk about other's business."
Hana turned around and saw Tenko was sitting down reading a book, wearing a conservative long sleeved shirt and shorts with socks on, displaying the engines in her calves and how muscular her calves were as well. "Hey, Iida-kun," Hana said as she walked up. "You can call me Tenko if you want. We were partners after all."
"Alright, Tenko. Can I be blunt?" Hana said.
"You're into women, and me," Tenko said as she put her book down. Hana was caught dead in her tracks and needed a minute for her brain to reboot. Tenko smirked and said, "I went to an all-girl Middle School. I was very popular for being one of the top athletes at the school. I wasn't sheltered from men though, but I never really felt any attraction for them. So, yes, Hana Kaminari, I am a lesbian. Are you as well?"
Hana's brain caught up with what Iida Tenko was saying and she said, "I-I'm actually bisexual, but I prefer girls. Never had much luck though, every girl I asked out in Middle School was straight. My brother is taking his girlfriend on a date, outside campus, and I figured we could make it a double date." Tenko smiled at this and said, "Alright. I'll go, and we'll see how things work out." Tenko put her hand over Hana's and said, "I hope it's a good date." Hana got up and smiled as she went to Josuke and said, "It's on. Let's go ask Vine-sensei to make arrangements."
Somewhere in Tokyo
The man watched through the small camera planted in U.A. as the targets made their plans. They would be leaving the security of U.A. and be out on the streets. It was true that they would be accompanied by a teacher as an escort, but he was sure that with his people and Quirks, they could handle them. He pulled out his phone to call his Employer and said, "Birds are leaving the Nest. Preparing arrangements now." His Employer responded, "As soon as I have them, you'll have the rest of your payment. Remember, I need them to be alive. Do whatever you must, as long as their hearts and brains are functioning, I don't care."
The man smiled as his eyes glowed toxic green, "Understood."
