Welcome to Hurricane, Utah.
That was what the sign read, Charlie smiled wryly as she kept driving, she still had time to kill before heading to the diner, so she decided to make a quick stop at someplace… extra special.
As she made a left turn, she drove for another ten minutes, before stopping and getting out, the House loomed up before her, it's dark outline a wound in the bright sunny sky, Aunt Jen was still paying taxes for it, so property mortgage wasn't an issue, still, Charlie took a deep breath, before walking to the front door, pulling out a key, she undid the lock and opened it.
The Door opened with a stiffening creek, As she entered the abandoned building, she looked around, finding everything was still the same, but coated in dust, the staircase was in front of her in an upward spiral, she looked around the living room instead, again, nothing had changed apart from the dust and wood rot, same with the kitchen, and the cupboards only held a few pots, pans and dishes that were starting to show rust.
After that, Charlie finally climbed up the stairs. Once she reached the top, she was met with a hallway with four rooms, one bathroom, her parents bedroom, their room, and finally…
Charlie opened the door and found her room just as untouched as the rest of the house, the walls were dark blue and her old bed was situated against the wall, with a tiny window above, she looked around and found two of her left behind toys, a small stuffed rabbit, and a unicorn on wheels.
"Theadore and Stanley…" She thought fondly, as she sat down on her old bed, she pushed one of the two Buttons on the wall and the Unicorn started to move along its tracks at a slow labored pace.
"You need a new coat of paint Stanley." Charlie smiled as she pushed the next button, at the other end of the room were three closets, each one bigger than the last, The smallest one opened up, and a little doll sailed out on a track of her own, she wore a blue dress and bonnet, and held a teacup and saucer in her hand.
"Hi Ella." Said Charlie.
Ella retreated back into her closet and the door shut again.
Finally, Charlie picked up Theodore, who was on the bed next to her and squeezed.
"I—ou—lie—" The Rabbit said in a static voice, in a voice she did not expect to hear again.
"I love you too." Said Charlie, as she set Theadore back down on the bed.
Later,
After leaving the House, Charlie took to the road and made her way into town, she noticed a few things had changed, a few shops And the local movie theater, which was now advertising the latest blockbuster hit.
"What did you expect?" Charlie mentally asked herself. "That the whole place would be unchanged? That it would stay frozen forever in July 1985?"
She soon arrived at the main diner of Hurricane, Sparky's Diner. She got out of the car and saw her friends through the Window, already seated at a table. It had been a long time since she last saw them, But she recognized them instantly.
"Carlton… Jessica… and John…" She thought as she gazed upon them.
Jessica was more recognizable. She was a thin, busty girl with flowing blonde hair that reached her shoulders, and wore a stylish pink turtleneck with a pair of shorts.
Carlton was the most memorable. He almost looked the same, same red hair, same goofy grin, same green shirt, though he seemed a bit buffer than the chubby little boy from long ago.
And finally, there was John, who was the kind of kid who got dirty even before he went outside. Now he was crisp and clean, with slick brown hair, A brown jacket and gray pants… and looked kind of… dreamy…
"Charlie!" Jessica called out upon seeing her, Charlie smiled warmly and took her seat next to John.
"I was just telling John and Carlton about my glamorous life!" Jessica grinned.
"Did you know Jessica lives in New York?" Asked Carlton.
"Eight million people live in New York, Cartlon." The blonde scoffed. "It's not an achievement."
"I've never been anywhere." Said Carlton.
"You still live here?" Asked Charlie.
"Where else am I gonna live?" Asked Cartlon. "My family's been here since the Town was founded in 1896, but trust me, After Graduation, I'm out of here."
"Where are you gonna go?" Asked John.
"Dunno." Carlton shrugged. "I was thinking of starting an acting career sometime though."
"Nice, where's Marla and Lamar?" Asked Charlie, as she took off her jacket.
"They're coming tomorrow." Said Jessica. "Marla's bringing her little Brother Jason."
"Jason?" Charlie smiled. "I haven't seen him since he was a baby!"
"Well he's Eleven now from what Marla's told me." Said Jessica. "We've visited each other lately, plus I booked a motel for the four of us and the boys are staying with Carlton's family."
"Sweet." Charlie said.
"So…" Said John, finally speaking up. "Does anyone know what we're doing tomorrow?"
An uncomfortable silence followed the group, They weren't really here for a happy reunion after all.
"...What do we even say to Gabriel's parents?" Asked Jessica.
"Do you see them around Carlton?" Asked Charlie.
"Kind of…" Said Carlton. "But… they mostly keep to themselves, and their new daughter…"
"I'm surprised they even stayed in Hurricane." Said Jessica. "Especially after the other families left or… well you know what I mean."
"Yeah, I heard the stories." Said John.
"Speaking of stories." Said Charlie changing the subject. "Do you still write John?"
"I do my E's the right way round these days." Siad John. "Mostly short stories, I actually had one published last year in a magazine, Nothing big."
"And… What happened to Freddy's?" Charlie asked.
Carlton jolted at the mere mention of the word.
"Carlton?" Asked Charlie.
"It's… at a new location." Said Carlton. "The old place is a different pizzaria now, the original company has been moving around here and there, Especially after some new guy took over management, They also remade the old Animatronics, after a whole bunch of stuff happened in 1987, The health departments bean trying to shut it down ever since, not many people go there, So it's most likely gonna close some time soon."
"I… need some fresh air." Said Charlie, as she got out of the table and went outside, she made her way to the car and leaned against it, as she began to breath heavily. "Damn it Charlie, Why did you have to ask about it? You knew they would talk about it!"
"Charlie?"
"Gah!" Charlie's leg shot up to kick at John, who quickly blocked it with his left forearm. In surprise, Charlie retracted her leg and stood upright. "Oh s-sorry John…"
"Uh… it's fine." Said John. "You forgot your jacket." He said, holding up Charlie's green jacket, which she gratefully took and put on as John rubbed his forearm. "Damn you got a strong kick."
"You can thank eight years of Aunt Jen's training for that." Charlie said.
"Are you alright?" Asked John.
"I'm fine…" Said Charlie uneasily. "It's just… I know it sounds stupid, but I try not to think about it. No one knows the full story, about the place, about my family… Aunt Jen and I never talk about it."
It was then that Jessica and Carlton came out and joined the pair.
"It… wasn't always so bad." Said Carlton. "Hey, remember that one time, when the merry go round got stuck? And Marla was stuck on it until her parents got her off?"
"And then she puked all over it." Said John.
"Ew! Gross! I never went on it again." Jessica laughed.
"Yeah, we all spent a lot of time there." Said Carlton, who then nudged Charlie. "Perks of knowing the owner's daughter."
"Hey, I couldn't help who my dad was." Charlie said bashfully. "I can't even help but think of a better childhood than being at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza!"
"Is the current one just like the old one?" John asked Carlton.
"I don't know." Said Carlton. "I told you guys, I haven't been there myself."
"Hmm, then I suppose there wouldn't be any harm in going there and seeing for ourselves." Charlie said.
"Right now?" Asked Carlton.
"Yeah, what else are we gonna do?" Asked Charlie. "Break in the middle of the night?"
"Who'd be there to stop us?" Asked John.
Meanwhile,
Mrs. Lillian Roberts looked over the file, and glanced back at her client, A seemingly large man, who kept himself well hidden in his hooded coat and mask.
"Well, good sir." She finally said. "I know your options are… limited, But I managed to get the job you uh… wanted?"
"At Freddy's?" Came a soft english voice.
"Yes, Full disclosure, it's uh…" Mrs. Raglan trailed off. "Not the most ideal situation, But I talked it over with Mr. Brown and he… agreed."
"How are the hours?" The figure asked.
"Not great." Said Mrs. Roberts. "But the pay is worth it, and you only have to worry about keeping people out and keeping the place tiddy."
"I'll take it." Said the Man as he got up.
"Well then." Said Mrs. Roberts, as she rose to join him, and shook his cold bandaged hand, before giving him her card. "Good luck than, Mike Schmidt."
