I have a Wish

Izuku was walking down the high street of his hometown, his mind in a rut as he dwelt on the future, for a 14-year-old boy, he'd had to mature far faster than most his age, he'd come to term with the simple reality that not all men were created equal and that his dreams were completely folly. However, the boy's heart wanted what it wanted, and he tried to think of ways to get what he wanted. Was it so wrong for him to have a dream without life kicking it down the road like a rusty can?! He could only assume it was wrong, he sat on a bench as he laid back, his head looking up to the heavens but just as he did, something landed on his face.

"What the!?" Izuku gasped as he reached up, it was some sort of card and then he looked it over. He remembered reading in history books that in the pre quirk era card games were popular with certain communities but with the rise of quirks and the subsequent chaos of the post quirk era most of the games had died out. He looked at the card as he turned it over "Curse of Dragon?" he read aloud as he shrugged and put the card in his school uniform pocket but as he was about to, the card flew out of his hand "Huh?" he looked around the card had flown towards some alleyway, Izuku didn't know why, as he saw it, he felt his heart race and without realising he was running towards the card but it then flew down the alleyway. Common sense would argue he shouldn't go down it, but it was like his body was on auto pilot. As he ran down the alleyway, he felt a strange pulse and then the alleyway ended in an open space, it was an open square area surrounded by skyscrapers but right in the middle was a small green and yellow shop. As he approached, he saw the shop's name "Kame game?" He read aloud but as he spoke the door opened and outstepped a little old man, he was wearing green overalls and a black bandana on his head "Uhhh"

"Oh, hello there?" the old man said as he reached down and picked up the card at his feet, he smiled before he began to chuckle but then handed the card back to Izuku "It's been an age since I had a customer! Come in! Come in! What's your name?"

"Uh Izuku Midoriya" Izuku said as he looked around the area, this place seemed strange, but he couldn't explain why. It was like this place was untouched by the rest of the world, there was no rubbish, no signs you'd associate with regular foot traffic but more creepily there was something old about the building. He stepped into the shop and his suspicions were all but confirmed. He could see an old-fashioned cash register on the table the man was now standing behind "Uh sir..." he then noticed in the display cabinets there were cards and more cards all similar to the one he now held but different "What is this place?"

"Kame Game...didn't you see the sign?" the old man asked as he chuckled as he then began to violently cough "Uhhh sorry my old age is getting to me... Been waiting on you for so long, Izuku" something about the way the man put that made Izuku tremble for a moment as the old man smiled gently "I'm sorry I don't believe I gave my name. Call me Mr Moto"

"Mr Moto?" Izuku asked as the old man nodded "Uhhh sir..."

"Mr Moto my boy...But anyway I suppose you've worked out my shop gets only a few visitors and there is a reason" Mr Moto explained as he pulled out a deck of cards before he began to shuffle them "But nothing in this shop is free... answers have a price"

"How much?"

"Hmm money means little to me" Mr Moto said as he placed the deck on the table, before he picked out another deck and began to shuffle it too but then said "Put simply I want a game"

"A game of what?"

"Duel Monsters" Mr Moto said with a mad glint in his eye as he then picked up a third deck and shuffled it too "This game will be a shadow game; winner takes all and if you win, you'll also gain a wish but if you lose, I'll take your soul!" Izuku gasped in horror as the man's eyes shone bright "What do you say, young man?"

Izuku looked at his hand as it trembled slightly but then he found his resolve as he asked "Any wish? I could even have a quirk?!"

"Yes...and take my word for it, this will be your only chance to gain a quirk" The old man said as he then added "I hope you're ready... choose a deck and we'll begin"

Izuku gulped, he didn't know how to play the extinct game and something in the pit of his stomach told him, the old man knew the game very well but then he heard a voice in his head "Pick the deck on the right" Izuku gasped and reached his hand forward picking up the deck on the right.

"Hope you're ready?" the old man asked but when Izuku looked up, the old man was gone, replaced by a far younger man with purple, black and blonde hair in a school uniform with a pedant around his neck but the eyes were the same. The man handed Izuku a strange device "That's a duel disc, here let me help you put it on"

Once the device was on the two stepped outside, Izuku gulped "Uh Mr Moto...I don't know how to play this game... could you give me some tips?"

"Hmmm tips?" Mr Moto asked as he rubbed his chin "I can only give you one, listen to your partner"

"My partner!?" Izuku gasped not sure what he meant, then he wondered, he pulled out the curse of dragon and added it to the deck "Are you, my partner?" he couldn't explain it, but the deck seemed to shine "Please help me"

"You ready to begin?" Mr Moto asked as he stood ready, Izuku nodded and watched as Mr Moto drew five cards, he copied this action but then Mr Moto pointed to the number read out "We'll play with 4000 life points, if they hit zero you will lose" he then smiled "Do your best"

"I'll try" Izuku said as he looked at his hand unsure what to do but as his hands touched each card, he felt like he knew what he was doing but then said, "Who's going first?"

"Age before beauty" Mr Moto said as he drew a sixth card "Hmmm I'll start by summoning Beta the Magnet Warrior in attack mode!" Izuku saw Mr Moto place the card on the square panels of the disc and gasped as a yellow monster with magnets sticking out from its head and hands appeared "And next I'll set two cards face down" he observed Mr Moto then place two cards into the duel disc under the monster card "Your move"

"R...Right" Izuku looked at his hand and felt his hands tremble as he tried to think. His mouth was dry as he tried to pick a move but then he remembered and drew a sixth card. He gasped "It's you" the curse of dragon "Please I need your help"

"Calm down" a voice said in his head, but it also seemed to come from the card "You have what you need... trust your gut"

Izuku looked at his hand and read the names of the cards, from what he could tell he had 4 monsters, one trap and a spell card. He took a deep breath and declared "I...I summon the Winged Dragon Guardian of the fortress in attack mode!" He looked up as a blue dragon took flight on his side of the field "Next I play Horn of the Unicorn to raise its attack power to 2100!"

"Not bad" Mr Moto complimented as Izuku smiled back "But there's more to this game that attack points"

"I know" Izuku said as he sighed "But for now it's enough. Winged Dragon, Fire ball attack!" the dragon flew up and fired three powerful fireballs at the magnet warrior "That did it..." however as the smoke cleared the magnet warrior was unarmed "No way!"

"You activated my trap" Mr Moto said as Izuku noticed a blue circle was hovering in the air "Spellbinging circle!" the trap closed around Izuku's monster dropping its attack down to 1400 "Now it's my turn" Izuku gulped as Mr Moto drew "I summon Alpha the Magnet warrior!" this time a silver magnet monster appeared armed with a sword and shield "Now Beta attack!" Izuku could only watch as Beta surged forward and punched his dragon dropping his points down to 3700 "Now Alpha attack!" Izuku's points were down to 2300 as he gulped "You know, Izuku there's no shame in giving up..."

"No! This is my only chance!" Izuku snapped before he gasped, where had that come from?! For now, he couldn't worry about that, he drew horn of the unicorn, it'd been sent to the top of his deck when his dragon had been destroyed but he smiled as he looked at his hand "Okay! I play a monster face down in defence mode, then I set one card face down"

"Hmm not bad but I guess you weren't the one I was waiting for" Mr Moto said as he drew a card "I sacrifice the two monsters before me in order to summon the Dark Magician!" Izuku gasped as he saw a tall man in purple armour and midnight blue ropes appear, he also had a long green wand "Next, I activate the face down card, Dark Magic Veil! I'll give up 2000 life points to summon the Dark Magician Girl!" a blonde woman in blue and pink appeared, she winked as she stood next to the Dark Magician "Now it's time to battle Dark Magician Girl! Dark Burning attack!"

Dark Magician Girl jumped up and launched her attack, the magic burning attack headed straight for Izuku's defence monster, he gasped but then smiled "Sorry that's not going to work" Izuku said as he flipped it face up "Giant Soldier of Stone!" a giant stone warrior appeared in front of Izuku, the attack from Dark magician girl glanced off as Izuku smiled "Guess I'm still in this"

"But your soldier isn't" Mr Moto said as he yelled "Dark Magician dark magic attack!" The Magician raised his hand in the air and the stone soldier crumbled "Not bad but you're now facing the strongest magicians in duel monsters!"

Izuku looked at his deck and gulped "Maybe...but I know there's a card in this deck that can help me... All I have to do is have faith and..." he drew a card "I might draw it! I activate Pot of Greed! This lets me draw two cards from my..."

"Deck...Sorry we all did that when I was young" Mr Moto joked as Izuku drew, Mr Moto's hands were down by his side "I don't know why but I feel like this maybe the last turn and... I couldn't be happier" Izuku could almost see Mr Moto's older form standing side by side with his younger self as the man sighed and looked to the shop "I can't tell you how many years it's been since my friends left me all alone... I'd spend days sitting behind my till hoping to see Joey, Tea or Tristan walk in..." Tears trickled down his face as he sniffed "But they never did... I didn't know why this came back to me" he pointed to the pedant around his neck "But I began to lose hope"

"You were?" Izuku asked as Mr Moto nodded "That sounds so lonely"

"It was...in a world where your only friend is your shadow... Loneliness was all I ever knew" Mr Moto said as he looked at his deck "But I also missed the feeling of dueling a worthy opponent... made me miss Kaiba, Bakura, Mai, Joey and more" he sighed as he looked up "I almost wish this game could go on forever..."

"But?"

"But this will be my last game...so Izuku make it a good one!"

"YEAH!" Izuku screamed as he looked at the two cards he'd drawn "I play Polymerization! I'll use this card to fuse the Curse of Dragon and Gaia the Fierce knight in my hand to summon Gaia the Dragon Champion!" as Izuku spoke a massive flying monster appeared with a knight atop it. Izuku checked his hand he had a monster and spell left but also a trap "Next, I activate the spell Card of Sanctity! This lets us both draw till we have 6 cards in our hands!"

"Not bad" Mr Momo said as he drew

"Just wait" Izuku smirked as he drew the cards "I activate Brain Control! I'll use it to take control of Dark Magician Girl!" Izuku couldn't explain it, but he felt like taking Dark Magician girl was the right move, though he couldn't explain why and he sighed "I guess... this is it"

Mr Moto smiled as he gently said "Do it... two attacks to gain your wish and then you can be a hero" Izuku felt tears leaking down his face, he couldn't explain it, he'd barely known the man for half an hour, but his heart hurt as he didn't want to hurt Mr Moto. Was he being silly? Perhaps but the game was also exciting like he was finally living! He knew of the loneliness that Mr Moto spoke and he wouldn't wish it on anyone "It's okay, Izuku, I'm not going to be cross... this is it. Look deep inside yourself and you'll find the strength"

Izuku chocked back a sob "But what will happen!?"

"It's simple, I'll move on. The shop will be yours; you'll have your wish and you'll be granted the wish I wished for long ago as well" Mr Moto said as he smiled "Trust me there are many more painful decisions ahead of you... but I know you'll be a hero that we both can be proud of"

"No...I don't want you to go" Izuku began to cry "I need you... You've already taught me so much! Please! There's got to be some other way"

"There isn't" Mr Moto said simply as he shook his head "And those of us who move on are never truly gone...so long as we're remembered and if you use my cards to save the lives of others...my heart will always be with you" Izuku looked up and saw the old man standing there again "Go on Izuku"

"Gaia the dragon champion attack with double Dragon Lance!" Izuku called as Gaia flew high into the air and dark magician jumped up to meet him, the wizard screamed as he was struck and disappeared "No..." Izuku gulped as he dug deep "Dark Magician Girl Attack!"

Yugi Moto looked up as Dark magician girl jumped into the air and launched her attack. Yugi's life points dropped to zero as he nodded and said, "Well that wasn't the best duel I've ever had but it was a duel and I guess that'll do..." Izuku ran over but Yugi shook his head as his body was now transparent "It was a good story while it lasted but now it's time for your wish"

"I wish..." Izuku thought hard and nodded "I wish... I wish for a quirk that can help me save as many people as possible with a smile on my face!"

"Quite right too" Yugi said as he turned away "Hey Izuku...remember so long as you live up to that... the heart of the cards will never fail you" he paused as he looked up to the sky "You know... it's a beautiful day... my cards will make sure you learn how to use your new powers" With that Yugi walked towards the alleyway but as Izuku saw him enter he faded from view.

Izuku looked at the cards he had and then at the shop "So how do I..."

As he spoke the Dark Magician girl approached and smiled as she gently placed a hand on his shoulder, Izuku was surprised, she was there, she was... real and she then did something even more shocking "Hello, Izuku" she said as Izuku gasped and fell back onto his ass, as Dark Magician Girl began to laugh "Ohhhh my you are a cute young boy...am I the first girl you've spoken to?" she assumed a seductive pose "I mean I am drop dead se..."

"No no! It's just your real! I mean you're the first girl I've spoken to too but you're here... You're real?" Izuku babbled at a million miles an hour "H...H...How!?"

"Uhhh your quirk" Dark Magician girl laughed as she hovered down and around him "Hmmm not bad but you're going to need some work" she then patted him on the stomach which caused him to yelp in surprise "You're all skin and bones...no no no, you're not ready" she added "You see Izuku, your new power or quirk relies on well energy both mental and physical energy...uhhh I think you call it Ki? Yeah, let's go with that... we'll need to begin your training"

"Training?!" Izuku yelled in shock as he asked "But all I'm doing is summoning you from a card...and..."

"Wow why are the cute ones always so dense?" Dark Magician Girl sighed as she lifted her wand "Now watch this Dark Burning attack!" She blasted a point on the floor and Izuku gasped as he suddenly felt winded as he tried to collect himself "You see... even me using a small attack drains you of energy and because you have a very small reserve...we need to build it up"

"How...How long will it take?" Izuku asked as Dark Magician girl hovered in the air.

"Even now your body is supplying me with energy to remain in this dimension" Dark Magician girl explained "We need to build you up so that you can summon and control higher levelled monsters, cast powerful spells and spring potentate traps" she poked him in the belly again "In other words this'll take a while"

Izuku gulped but then he smiled as he glanced up at her "Bring it on"

To be honest I just found this in my files and decided what the heck so I published it. There are other chapters too so I may put those out but I found other stories that I might also put out. My main focus will remain "Beast Wars Go Beyond" and "The Last Rangers of UA". I just fancied putting out some stuff to see how they'd do...regardless I hope you enjoyed the chapter.
