Quirk To the Test
"AHHHHH!" Izuku yelled as he was thrown to the floor again, he lay on his back groaning as he looked up to the sky, it had been one week since he'd become the owner of Kame Game and began his training under the spirits of the monsters who now were under his control. He sighed as he rolled onto his front to see the monster he'd summoned to assist in his training, before him was a man in blue, white and yellow with a purple visor on his face "You thinking about life's meaning? Get up!" Battle Warrior snapped as he threw some punches in the air as he looked down at Izuku "You don't have time to for thinking on such things! Now on your feet!" Izuku stood up cracking his neck, whatever else, Battle Warrior was a firm but fair teacher, and the spirits were beginning to feel like friends "You good?"
"Yeah sure" Izuku said as he readied himself, Battle Warrior charged and Izuku dodged to the right trying to punch Battle Warrior in the stomach, but the warrior used his speed to get clear "Damn!" as Battle Warrior returned the favour with a vicious punch to Izuku's gut.
"Take a breather, kid" Battle Warrior said as he picked up a bottle of water and handed it to Izuku "I know I'm a bit rough with you, but you're doing well...you're faster than you were, your instincts are sharper and remember because you're sharing your energy with me...you'll always be at a disadvantage"
"I know...I just wish..." Izuku began but Battle Warrior shook his head "Huh?"
"We have a few months and in the end of the day, you still need to go to school and..." Battle Warrior couldn't keep the venom out of his voice as he thought about what the spirits had quickly learned about the life of their new friend, they'd agreed with Izuku that summoning them outside the shop was probably going to be tougher on Izuku but as a result some of the weaker spirits had tailed Izuku and what they'd witnessed had horrified them. Battle Warrior punched the ground and cracked the concrete "Sorry" he muttered as he kicked away some of the broken concrete.
"Let's get back to training?" Izuku offered trying to get Battle Warrior's mind off the sore subject.
"Sure" Battle Warrior said as they got up to begin training Izuku's cardiovascular ability. Izuku was nothing if not hard working, Battle Warrior had to practically beg Izuku to go home, however this wasn't just because Izuku was tired, the spirits were holding an indignation meeting, so once Izuku was gone, Battle Warrior turned and then he walked into the shop where the spirits had already started the meeting.
"Disgraceful" muttered Feral Imp
"Disgusting" said Gilta the Dark Knight
"Despicable" growled Silver Fang.
"To say and do such horrid things to Izuku! It's to teach them a lesson I be wanting!" Axe Raider yelled angrily.
"Everyone calm down! This isn't helping!" Dark Magician girl said as she hovered over, her expression a mix of concern and barely contained anger. She pointed over to a small group of monsters that included a Kuriboh, Magician of Faith and a petit dragon who were all shaking tears still streaming down their faces "Are you all okay?"
The Magician of Faith shook her head as more tears slipped down her cheeks but then she said in a hollow tone "We're okay... it's just... watching what those boys did to Izuku was... I can't take it! We gotta do something!" the last part of her statement changing to one of deep barely contained anger.
Battle Warrior nodded "I saw the bruises on Izuku...he tried to hide them but they're...not so easy to hide" he said as he cracked his knuckles and added "And Izuku seems to think it's normal" he closed and opened his fist trying not to snap but then said "Normal...that's rich"
"Is it normal to be someone's punching bag!" Harpie Lady yelled with utter rage "And these kids have quirks! That makes it worse!" there was a mumbling of agreement from other spirits "I say stuff the rules... we use our own power to crush those little...!" she swore and made a gesture with her talons.
"No" a deep voice said far into the back, spirits far stronger than even Dark Magician Girl were standing in the dark but one stepped forward and it came as a shock as the fiend Summoned Skull stepped out, his head cleared the ceiling as the hugely powerful monster looked down "We made a promise to Yugi... if we solve this problem for the boy... it'll only prove he is unworthy"
Celtic Guardian sharpening his sword added "The boy maybe turning the other cheek, but he is showing the same strength Yugi once did and we trusted him. Let us trust Izuku in the same way" the spirits reluctantly agreed, though most very much were eager to return the favour to Bakugo and his cronies but then Celtic Guardian added "Battle Warrior...tomorrow I'll begin training Izuku how to use a sword"
Battle Warrior nodded as the meeting ended but there were 3 spirits who weren't ready to accept the decision "So what say we pay that jerk back for hurting our new boss!" the first spirit said
"Yeah, we'll shows him!" the second spirit said as the third nodded.
"AHHHHHHH!" Izuku was walking to class as Bakugo came tearing out the classroom, he didn't even notice Izuku, as he tore down the corridor, Izuku couldn't help but wonder what was going on but then Bakugo screamed as he had a sneaking suspicion he could guess "Get away from me!" Izuku stepped into the room only for everyone to shrug as he looked for a reason as to what that was all about and he sighed as he sat at his seat. Bakugo kept running and only stopped when he reached the boy's bathroom on the top floor "I should have lost them"
"Lost who?" A voice said from behind him "Hiya, boss"
"Who... w...who the hell are you!?" Bakugo snapped as he looked down to see three spirits appearing before him "Get away from me!"
"Nahhhh we're good with you besides..." the first spirit began as he looked up with a grin before pretending to kiss Bakugo in a comical fashion "What are you going to do about it?"
"Who are you!?" Bakugo said backing against the sinks.
"George Lucas" the first spirit said
"Chad from accounting" the second spirit said
"Andrew's landlord" The third spirit said as Bakugo groaned in annoyance "But most people know us as the 3 Ojama Brothers"
"What the hell are you!?" Bakugo snapped
"Ojamas" the three spirits said as they jumped up at him and Bakugo screamed loud enough that practically the whole school heard him.
"I think it's probably stress" The Principle said as Bakugo was told to go home and his parents were asked to collect him, but his parents didn't look as convinced since their son was a lot of things but….this just didn't fit the usual tread even if it was stress "I'd recommend he takes a few days bed rest"
"I'm fine, you old git!" Bakugo screamed as he then shot his case in the foot "It's the three weirdos in those speedos!" what the adults couldn't see was Ojama Yellow, Black and Green dancing behind their heads and making very rude gestures at Bakugo as he tried to explode them, but it just made his case look worse by virtue of covering the adult faces with soot from the explosions and shooting the Principal's wig off his head "Noooo!"
Izuku watching the incident could see the Ojama brothers and muttered a curse under his breath before saying under his breath "This couldn't look much worse"
One of the Bakugo's usual gang heard him and for once agreed saying "Yeah seems like blowing off the principal's wig isn't the best look" however Izuku wasn't listening to him and instead was thinking about what he'd do when he got back to the shop.
That evening Izuku stormed into Kame Shop on the warpath "That wasn't funny!" he snapped as he looked around in anger at the spirits all of whom were surprised by his anger "You guys had no right sending those 3 to torment Ka-Chan!" there was a long moment of silence where no spirit dared to speak scared of Izuku's reaction "Well!"
"Well, what?" Battle Warrior asked as he walked up with his arms folded as he met Izuku's glare, even the stronger spirits didn't have the nerve to even try that given Izuku's anger and it being clear one wrong word would just make things worse "We don't know what you're talking about. We never send any spirits to... Ka-chan?"
"I saw them at the school!" Izuku snapped
"Who?" Dark Magician Girl asked as she too looked lost.
"The Ojama brothers" Celtic Guardian deadpanned as he stood up from his spot "I saw the three-chatting last night but decided it was none of my business but this morning they were gone"
"I'm sorry, Izuku" Battle Warrior said as he shook his head, Izuku calmed down but still looked annoyed "We didn't give the three permission to go but spirits once bonded with another... well, the Ojamas know they're annoying, so they probably decided to repay Bakugo..."
Izuku groaned as he sat down on a stool as he pinched his nose "So other people can see you guys?"
"Yes, but only if we allow them to" Mystical Elf said
Dark Magician Girl then sighed "It may also be time to tell you something important" the other spirits mumbled as the Magician raised her wand high as the images of several people emerged wearing duel discs "The cards in this shop once belonged to Yugi and his friends but also several other legendary duellists. You have Mai Valentine, the Truesdale brothers, Jaden Yuki and Chazz Prinston but the cards missing from the collection... are still out there"
"Including several of the most fearsome creatures to ever exist. Now thankfully not every card has a spirit" Celtic Guardian said as he walked up "But the cards that do have endured into the modern age and their wielders we can confirm aren't all good"
"What are they?" Izuku asked in a breathless tone.
"The first of the legendary beasts is known as Exodia" a spirit said in the corner "Also known as the Forbidden one, the spirit cards needed to summon it were spread across 5 of the world's continents by Jaden Yuki so they're probably not a threat"
"However," Summoned Skull stepped out from the shadows "The Egyptian gods are still out there, and I can confirm a hand that has bathed in the darkness of evil holds them" the images Dark Magician girl created changed and 3 shadowy monsters were shown. Izuku could tell at a glance their power eclipsed all the spirits in the room by a large margin and he shook in fear "That is the correct reaction...if their spirits awaken you will need to stand ready"
"Why me?" Izuku asked as he gulped
"Because you are the one Yugi put his faith in" Dark Magician girl said with a smile "Now the good news you won't have to face these challenges alone" she changes the images to show 5 dragons "These five dragon spirits have awakened, and their users are good people. First you have the Blue Eyes White Dragon, it was once wielded by Yugi's rival Seto Kaiba"
"There are 4 copies of their card but one does not possess the ability" Celtic Guardian said as he pointed to a framed card above the till "Their wielder is currently unknown, but we know she is good"
"She?" Izuku asked but the spirits nodded.
"Next up we have the Red Eyes Black Dragon" Battle Warrior said as he added "He once served alongside me in Joey Wheeler's deck... and the one who wields his power has absorbed the power slightly with their quirk" he then added "The reason is that Joey opted to pass the card to his daughter and as a result it's passed down the family changing their quirk to match"
"Wait? So is Ryuko the dragoon heroine..." Izuku began as he felt the pieces slot into alignment as he realised "Ryuko is Joey Wheeler's decedent!?" the spirits all nodded as they smiled "What of the remaining 3 dragons?"
"Of the 3 dragons who've awakened" Dark Magician girl said as she made other dragons appear behind her "The first is Curse of Dragon, who you hold. And the other two awakened dragons are...well we don't know their names but...we know they're with two pro heroes, but they only awakened recently. However more cards may awaken in the days, weeks and months to come"
Before Izuku could ask any more questions, he gasped when he heard a noise outside and a spirit flew in "We got problems! A large group of men are headed this way! They're chasing a small girl!"
"What?!" Izuku gasped as he grabbed his duel disc and charged out.
"Eri, Eri, Eri you can't be running away" A man in a red and yellow plague mask said as a cowering girl with a horn, had fallen and had her back pressed against the wall of the shop as she looked up in utter terror as the man reached down to touch her "This world is very sick and you are a cursed child..." before he could make contact he was kicked in the face by Izuku who glared at him as the man backed up "Hey now...what was that for?"
"You're scaring her!" Izuku yelled as he was wearing his duel disc as he slotted a deck in.
"She's my daughter and it is natural when a child defies their father for them to be scared" the man said as the men behind him stood ready "Now young man walk away...and we'll leave you to play in these... unsanitary conditions. This shop seems like a haven for dust and other undesirable qualities"
"Oh that tears it!" Celtic Guardian snarled as he was itching to hurt the man who was looking up at the old shop with clear disgust "Let me at him, Izuku!" Celtic Guardian was also shaking with rage at the condition the small girl was in, the bandages, the fear, the rags and more made the warrior monster madder than he'd ever been.
Izuku drew a card and said, "Good Idea...I summon Celtic Guardian!" Izuku holding the card above his head, forced his energy into the card as he focused on supplying his monster with the energy and then placed the card on the duel disc. A moment later the warrior monster dawned in his green armour and brandishing his sword his face clearly a storm of rage "Back down"
"You think a hologram scares us?" the man asked as he cracked his neck and removed a glove "It doesn't, Rappa!" a tall man at the back of the group wearing a black plague mask stepped forward punching one hand into the other as he nodded "Deal with the boy"
Celtic Guardian stood ready but he growled back "Izuku...I'm no match for this one use a trap"
"I have just the one" Izuku said as he drew a card and pushed it into place ready to activate. He didn't have to wait Rappa lunged forward throwing his arm back but was aiming for Izuku who yelled "I activate a trap" the group of men laughed as Rappa grinned under his mask but as he punched at Izuku, a shiny wall rose up to meet the punch as it collided with the wall, Rappa looked at his reflection which stared back "Mirror Wall...you were just attacked by an equally powerful force and split your power in two! NOW Celtic Guardian! Counter Attack!"
"My pleasure!" Celtic Guardian yelled as he jumped over the wall and brought his sword down in one crisp cut, it wasn't enough to be deadly, but it was well aimed and took Rappa out of the fight in a stroke "Leave here!"
The man who led the group's eyes were wide as he smiled under his mask "Interesting quirk" he said but the tone conveyed he wasn't impressed as he sighed "Look, Kid...we only want the girl. Hand her over and we won't hurt you"
Izuku was already struggling, he'd been told traps and monsters at the same time were a long way off but now he had summoned a level four and activated a continuous trap. He was panting struggling to stay in the fight but he had to, the girl behind him was clearly afraid and he yelled "NEVER! You have no intention of letting me live! And even if you did! My spirits told me what you did to her!" he was partly lying but he had a strong idea "So go to hell!"
"Hmmm can't fault a guy for trying" the man said as he walked to Izuku "But it's clear you are struggling...I imagine you're a late bloomer and this power is difficult to maintain?" Izuku felt his blood run cold, he had to keep the wall up but if they found a way to destroy it, he had to protect the girl, no matter the cost and he reached for his deck "Oh?"
"Izuku!" Celtic Guardian barked as he looked back horrified "Don't do it!"
"I...I...I need a stronger monster" Izuku panted as even drawing a card would sap his strength "I...need an equip spell"
"Izuku...please...don't..." Celtic Guardian begged a tear trickling from his eye as Izuku drew a card
"Perfect" Izuku panted as he activated the spell "GO! Horn of the Unicorn!" Celtic Guardian screamed as his attack power shot up "I...I... no... no...I can do this...I just need more power!"
"HA!" the man said as he reached forward for the girl who trembled as she backed up against the wall of the shop but the mirror wall didn't rise up "You've overused your quirk"
"Mirrr...Mirrr...Mirrrr MIRROR WALL!" Izuku yelled as the wall shot up just in the nick of time stopping the man who punched the wall gently "Leave..."
"No, I don't think we will" the man laughed as he sat on a bench across from the shop "All we have to do is outlast you" it was true, Izuku knew he could only keep this going realistically for another ten minutes at the very most "And yes when that wall fails...we will beat you to death as punishment for interfering but also to teach little Eri a lesson"
Izuku suddenly had an idea as he looked up at the dark night sky "N...No...I don't think so..." he had the option "Celtic Guardian! Return to me!" the monster nodded, a moment later he disappeared and Izuku drew a card "If this works..." he held the card above his head "I summon Winged Dragon! Guardian of the Fortress! Fireball attack!"
"Are you kidding! What will that do?" a shorter man mocked Izuku who only grinned as the blue dragon flew high into the air and launched a fireball high into the sky above "What the? Lousy aim"
"Not really" Izuku wheezed as the men realised what he'd done, he'd raised the alarm and a moment later, a different dragon touched down and growled at the men before her "Thank you" Izuku mumbled as his strength finally failed him. He fell forward, the last thing he saw before blacking out was Eri approaching him, tears in her eyes and he smiled "You're safe" he mumbled.

Well a New Year and this chapter, I have to say some of this needed to be reworked a little. I'm happy with the chapter though I wish I'd squeezed in a bit more into the Ojama teasing of Bakugo...but I didn't want it to go on for too long.
