Demon's Daughter: Love Across the Divide
Chapter 26
Dad Beat Dad
~Normal POV~
Vaggie was just waking up from her sleep in the bed she shared with Charlie. Only to awaken alone in bed. No sight of Charlie around.
"Charlie?"
Curious about her girlfriend's whereabouts, Vaggie got out of bed, dressed, and went downstairs. She found Charlie in the living room, examining a bulletin board covered with papers and strings. Pacing back and forth, talking to herself, hair a mess. It was clear Charlie was in a state of panic. Everyone minus Alastor was gathered behind the couch watching her.
"I'm just not understanding why it's not working. Okay, okay think Charlie. Think, think, think. Okay, if I do this, it's going to be-" She started going off topic.
"Yikes." said Angel.
"Come on, come on, come on." Charlie muttered to herself pacing the floor.
"Charlie? Sweetie? Are you alright?" inquired Vaggie.
"She has been like this for two hours. I believe she is experiencing a mental breakdown," Gwen informed Vaggie, casting a worried glance at her sister
Charlie appeared disheveled; her hair was in a messy ponytail braid, her eyes were sleep-deprived with a touch of insanity, and there was a slight twitch in her smile.
"See what I mean?" said Gwen.
"I've been up all night trying to figure out why the hotel isn't working. (Crushes paper with her hand) We've done trust falls, tried sharing our feelings, and we only have a couple months left before the angels come. (Turns to her demonic form laughing maniacally before turning back to normal) And at this rate-" She's cut off when Vaggie speaks up.
"Maybe it's time-"
"NO."
"To ask-"
"Don't you finish that sentence Vaggie."
"Your dad."
Charlie and Gwen groan in annoyance as they understand the implications for the both of them.
"Nooo..." Charlie whined.
"Damit, Vaggie, I told you not to complete that sentence," said Gwen, directing glare at Vaggie.
"Look, I know you two don't want to, but we need every advantage we can get. Lucifer's our best option in this case." Vaggie told them.
"He let the extermination happen to begin with." spoke Charlie. "They just had a meeting, and he said, "Go ahead and kill everyone"- (Gasps) Wait, that's it!"
"Kill everyone?" questioned Vaggie.
"No! He could get me a meeting with Heaven!" Charlie replied.
"We just had a meeting with Adam, and it didn't work." said Gwen.
"Well, yeah, but Adam's an asshole, and he's not in charge of all of Heaven. We could go to the top. There's sure to be some angels who will listen to us." said Charlie.
Pulling out her phone, she scrolled through her contacts until she spotted her dad's number; however, she was hesitant on calling him.
"What's the holdup? You got daddy issues?" asked Husk.
"No, no, I wouldn't say that. It's just that he never believed in my dream to rehabilitate demons. The day I told him and Mom that I wanted to make Hell a better place for sinners, he told me it was, a lost cause, that sinners couldn't be redeemed and sent to Heaven." Charlie explained.
"Mmhm, so daddy issues," said Husk, who could see behind Charlie's.
"Well, I'd like to meet the big dick in charge." said Angel.
"The ultimate bad boy. (Holding her knife, laughing like a maniacal gremlin with excitement. Not realizing Angel took the knife from her) I bed he's scary."
"Only when he's angry." said Gwen to herself.
Meanwhile at Lucifer's Palace
The scene transitions to a room adorned with family photographs and sharp tools on the walls. Snarling noises can be heard as Lucifer tinkers away on a project. His laughter grows as he finishes his latest project.
"That's it...Almost there...Now presenting...the magic-tastical back flipping rubber duck! Haha! That spits fire! (Holds a new rubber duck that breaths fire) Hoo hoo hoo! With flip power! (The duck flips in the palm in his hand) Hold the applause please. Ugh, who am I kidding?"
He tosses the duck over his shoulder, and it lands in a pile of rubber ducks. Throughout his room, large piles of rubber ducks scattered around. Lucifer had been in a state of depression lately after his last conversation with Gwen. Holding himself up in his room, working on several rubber duck projects, only ever coming out to sleep and eat with his wife. With a heavy sigh, Lucifer gazes at a photograph of his daughters embracing him and smiling. They were so happy together back then. Where did it all go wrong?
Suddenly, he was pulled from his thoughts when his ringtone went off. Looking at his phone, Lucifer saw that Charlie was calling him and immediately began to panic. "Daughter? Daughter! Daughter calling?! Oh boy!" He started clearing his throat, practicing his hellos before answering the phone. "Hey-bitch!"
Way to nail it.
"Hi, dad."
"Hey, Charlie! How are you? Wh-What are you doing these days?"
"Dad, I told you what I'm doing months ago. Were you not listening?"
"Ah yes, the hotel. The entire rehabilitation process that you are enthusiastic about undertaking the hotel, correct?
"Yeah, that. Listen, I have a huge favor to ask."
"How's Gwen doing? I haven't heard from her in such a long time."
"She's fine dad, look I need to know i-"
"Why is she upset with me? I have provided her with shelter and love, yet it seems insufficient. Where did I go wrong? Am I failing as a parent? Do you think I am a good parent, Charlie?"
"Yeah, dad...you're a... good parent, but look I really need to ask-"
"I mean, why can't she see that I just want the best for her? She's being ridiculous about the way I'm raising her. Going off at me because she can't listen to rea-"
"Dad! I'm trying to talk to you, could you please stop talking for two minutes?"
"Oh, right, sorry about that. What did you need from me Charlie?"
"Well, I need to speak to Heaven. Well, whoever's in charge up there, above Adam, above anyone. I need to go to the top."
"Oh no. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. I can't do that Charlie."
"(angry voice) Look dad, (calms down) I don't ask you for much, I never have, but this is really important to me. It's the most important thing I've ever done. And I... need you. I need your help."
"...I don't know Charlie."
"Please! Just come over to see what I'm trying to do. One look at my hotel and you'll see why it's a good idea, and Heaven is bound to agree if I get the chance to talk to them. Please, dad?"
"Wait, are you...inviting me over? (gasps) Absolutely! I'll be there in an hour!" (hangs up, starts to sing) My daughter wants to see me~! YES!"
While Lucifer was doing a celebration dance, he didn't hear the door to the room open, nor did he notice his wife enter. He only became aware of her presence when he turned around, jumping back in surprise.
"Lilith?! (embarrassed laugh) How much of that did you see?" He asked rubbing the back of his neck.
"Just enough to notice something good must have happened." She replied.
"Indeed, it has my love~ Charlie's invited me over to her hotel."
"That's wonderful Luci, this is your chance to patch things up with the girls and get a good look at what Charlie's trying to accomplish." Lilith sounded pleased.
""Oh no, I still believe the hotel is a waste of time," Lucifer said firmly. "My goal is to persuade Charlie that this redemption business is nonsense and to bring Gwen back home."
With that said, Lilith frowned at her husband.
~Back at the Hotel~
"Welp, we've got an hour until he gets here." said Charlie.
"Okay people." began Vaggie gaining everyone's attention. "Lucifer is on his way, so we're going to get this place presentable, and we're going to make an amazing impression. Vamanos!"
Cliffhanger!
That's right, I went there, leaving you guys in suspension as you wait longer for more to read.
Await the next chapter to find out what'll happen when Lucifer arrives at the hotel.
