Demon's Daughter: Love Across the Divide

Chapter 27

Dad Beat Dad Pt. 3

~Gwen's POV~

My father and Alastor were engaged in an intense battle when suddenly a woman interrupted them. She said her name was Mimzy. Made this whole big introduction through song which silenced everyone. My dad had a confused look on his face when he looked at her.

"Who?"

"Didn't you just hear me? Why is everybody so quiet? Is it cuz I'm so adorable you're all speechless?" She spoke.

"Mimzy" said Alastor.

"Alastor! Sweetie, doll-face, so good to see you! How've you been?"

I observed the two individuals embracing in a hug, leading me to infer that they are acquainted with each other.

"You know her, Alastor?" I asked.

"Ah yes, this little lady is Mimzy. Ah old friend of mine." He spoke.

"How are you doing hon? Listen Alastor, I was in the neighborhood, and I heard you were staying at this ritzy slob factory, and I figured I'd stop by, say hi for old times' sake." spoke Mimzy.

"Of course, sweetheart! Everyone is welcomed here!"

"Oh, how nice! So, you two know each other?" spoke Charlie.

"Oh yeah, we go way back, ran in the same circles when we were alive. You know, this one used to frequent the club where I used to perform. He's the only one I knew who could pound whiskey like a sailor then keep up with me on the dance floor!"

It is surprising to learn that Alastor exhibited such maniacal tendencies during his lifetime.

"Oh, quite a talent, this gal. Ho ho! You should have seen her in her heyday!"

"Hey, watch it, tall, dark and creepy! I'm still in my prime!"

Mimzy smiled at Alastor until her attention was drawn to my father, and she was immediately infuriated at the sight of him.

"Oh, my stars! (gasps) Is that Lucifer? (Pushes Pentious to the side) Move it! It is you! Pleased to meet ya your highness! (whispers to Alastor) Alastor, you gotta warn a girl when she's in mixed company."

"Ah, yes, hello there." dad said.

"As much as I'd love to catch up, Charlie and I have a tour to continue for her father." said Alastor.

Upon hearing this, Dad turned his attention to Alastor, grabbing Charlie's arm before speaking. "I'm sure Charlie can handle showing me. Gwen may join if chooses."

Alastor suddenly appeared in front of them. "Nonsense! (Grabs Charlie's arm) We started the hotel together, and we'll show it off together. Right Charlie?"

"Oh, right," says Charlie. "We can both show you around the rest of the hotel, Dad.""(sighs) Very well." says dad.

"Mimzy, my dear, why don't you let the others help you settle in, and I'll be back before you know it." says Alastor to Mimzy who smiles, taking a seat at the bar.

"You coming to Gwen?" asked Charlie.

As much as I wanted to say no, my conscience was telling me to go, urging me to give my father a chance. He is not such a bad person; he is just somewhat foolish in my opinion.

"Yeah, I'll come Charlie." I say, following behind her as we walked with dad, Vaggie, and Alastor.

~Normal POV~

"So, where can a girl get a drink around here?" Mimzy asked.

Husk emitted groan of irritation while cleaning glass. Clearly, he did not appreciate her company.

"My, my, Husker, is that you? Alastor still has you slinging hooch for him, I see. (chuckles) Classic! How ya been, fur ball?"

"Good, until five minutes ago." He mumbled.

"Oh, don't tell me you're not happy to see me. You might hurt my feelings. (giggles)"

Husker rolled his eyes as he prepared a drink for Mimzy, who turned to observe Nifty searching for bugs.

"Hey Nifty, whatcha been up to, girlie?"

"Fighting bugs."

"And uh, how's that going for ya?"

"They're winning. (Pulls out a large knife. Showing off an insane smile.) but not for long."

"Uh huh... (a glass is given to her) thanks, pussy cat!"

"Oh, fuck you." Husk leaves the bar just as Angel and Pentious take a seat next to Mimzy.

"So, may I ask, what is the nature of your relationship with Alastor? Are you friends?" inquired Angel.

"Well, that is your word, not mine, but I believe it is appropriate. Why are you so surprised?" Mimzy inquired.

"Well, just didn't know he had any of those. He's been here a while and is still a big, creepy mystery. What's his deal?"

"Well, you probably heard the stories." Mimzy begins, putting her drink down. From within the glass, a flashback begins to play out. He appeared in Hell suddenly, making a splash quicker than anyone had ever seen. At first, people wanted to dismiss him, but soon, overlords started going missing, and not the small ones neither. We're talking heavy hitters No one knew what happened to 'em, until these strange radio broadcasts started going out. All you could hear were screams. Every time an overlord went missing, there'd be a new voice screaming in the broadcast. That's when Alastor revealed himself as the radio demon, and anyone that would mess with him...(chuckles) well, let's just say, his broadcasts never lacked new voices."

Mimzy takes a sip of her drink, "That's the story most people know, but underneath it all... he's a total sweetie! Put on some jazz and pour a couple fingers of rye and he becomes a kitten!"

Angel and Sir Pentious exchanged fearful glances. Alastor's dark history spooked them, in contrast to Mimzy, who remained unfazed.

"Oh, stop with the looks. He hasn't done any of that in a while. (raises her glass) Can I get another one of these?" She looked but found Husk wasn't there, much to her annoyance. "Oh, what the fuck?!"

~Meanwhile with the others~

Through the dark, creepy hallways, Charlie was showing her father the interiors of the hotel. "So, once we have the proof that redemption is possible, this whole hotel will be full of demons wanting to check out into Heaven! We just need a little time to prove it. The sharing circles haven't been working as fast as I hoped."

Lucifer nods as he listens to Charlie while Vaggie, Gwen, and Alastor, walk behind her in silence. As they were walking, Husk called out to Alastor.

"Hey, boss. Can I have a word?"

Alastor halted his steps, rotating his head one hundred and eighty degrees, followed his body, to face Husk.

"What is it?" asked Alastor.

"You and I both know Mimzy only shows up when she needs something. That bitch is trouble, and who knows what kind of demon she fucked with to come running to you this time." Husk explains.

"It's nothing I can't handle." says Alastor. "Don't worry Husker. Who in their right mind would cross me?"

"I mean, you've been gone a while, and it's not like anybody knows why."

"They don't need to know, and don't you worry your fuzzy head about it." Alastor rubs Husk's ears, angering the cat demon.

"growls) You may own my soul, but I am not your fucking pet!"

"(chuckles) Of course you are! Haha!"

Just as Alastor turned around to return to the tour, Husk muttered something aloud.

"Big talk for someone who's also on a leash."

Alastor halted his steps, his eyes transforming into radio dials, and the lights in corridor flickered. Slowly turning to look over his shoulder to Husk.

"Aha, what did you say?"

Before Husk could respond, a green chain appeared around his, forcing him down to the ground on his stomach. Realizing his mistake, he attempted to make an excuse.

"Nothing! I, uhm..."

He did not have much time to respond as Alastor slowly approached him, wrapping the green chain his hand. The lights flickered faster with each step he took.

"If you ever say that again, I will tear your soul apart and broadcast your screams for every other disrespectful wretch who dares to question me!" As he spoke, Alastor grew to monstrous size, giving Husk chills.

"(scared, nods) Understood." says Husk.

Reverting to his normal size, Alastor made the chain from Husk's neck as lights returned to their usual state.

"Lovely. (chuckles) Good talk, my good man! Always nice to catch up." says Alastor as he leaves Husk on the ground, terrified.

~Back with the girls and Lucifer~

The tour continued, with Vaggie taking the lead in explaining the hotel's role in redeeming demons so they can ascend to Heaven, with a particular focus on Angel Dust.

"And we've almost been able to find all of Angel Dust's drug stashes, almost."

"So, once that's out of the way, it should be much smoother sailing!" Charlie chimed in.

"Well that certainly is, uhm... something." said Lucifer.

Gwen crossed her arms and looked away. She knew her father was not genuinely interested in what Charlie was doing; he was merely trying to be polite to spare her feelings.

"So, what do you think?" asked Charlie.

"About what?" inquires Lucifer.

"About the hotel. The entire reason for your visit and what Charlie has been elucidating to you for the past hour and a half." said Gwen.

"Oh! Yes! That! It does... it does look much better now, doesn't it? (chuckles) You know, I'm thinking this railing could use some work. One good push and you'd just go right over the edge! Whoopie! Bye bye! (chuckles)" spoke Lucifer.

"What? No, no, the plan, dad! What do you think about using the hotel to help sinners?" asked Charlie.

Gwen observed her father's expression. With a single glance, she could discern that he had no interest Charlie's proposal whatsoever.

"(exhales) Alright, look Charlie, I love that you want to see the best in people, but these sinners, you know, they're just the worst. I... I don't know how much you can realistically expect from them, and Heaven? (adjusts his collar) Hohoo boy, Heaven's not exactly as carefree as you might think. Yeah, they have rules, lots of rules, and they aren't very open minded as you'd hope." He explained.

"These are our people, dad, I... I have to try!" Charlie was on the verge of tears. It was painful realize that her father did not believe in her dreams to help Hell.

"Our people? Charlie please, they got gifted free will and look what they did with it! Everything is terrible! I don't want you risk yourself for people like these sinners. They don't deserve to be saved."

"Dad, if they are given opportunity such as the one, I wish to provide, there will be hope. I want to give them hope. A chance to escape Hell and be up in paradise."

"Charlie, there is no saving these sinners. They made their choices when they were alive, and now they must face the consequences."

"Would you really abandon your own people?" inquired Charlie.

"I cannot abandon individuals who never merited saving in the first place." said dad.

"How can you say that?"

"Because it's true."

"Forget it, Charlie. There is no winning this argument," Gwen said. "Dad will always be a difficult person who does not care about anyone. He thinks the hotel is a lost cause and he doesn't want to acknowledge what you're trying to fight for."

"I acknowledge it; however, I believe it is a lost cause, much like these sinners."

"How would you know? You never took the time to come here and see what Charlie has been working on. She has been working tirelessly for months, and yet you still dismiss her dreams as insignificant."

Before Lucifer could reply, the building gave a thunderous shake.

"Whoa!" Gwen held onto the railing bars.

"What was that?!" cried Vaggie.

All four looked to see a dozen loan shark mafia demons on the ground, holding a battering ram. The loan sharks were armed to the teeth with guns, melee weapons, and the battering ram. Which they were using to open the front door.

"Mimzy! We know you're in there you lousy bitch!" One of the sharks cried out.

Inside the lobby, Mimzy heard the voice of the loan shark and immediately realized that she was in trouble.

"Oh shit." she said.

A portal opened by Lucifer allowed him and the girls to pass through, returning them to the lobby the battering ram continued to the front door.

"Que Carajo?!" cried Vaggie.

"What's going on?!" cried Charlie.

"Mimzy, why are those loan sharks looking for you?" questioned Gwen.

"Well, I maaaay be in trouble with them because I may or may not have borrowed fifty grand from- (oud thud) Eeep!" A terrified Mimzy runs behind the bar.

"You better come out or we'll tear this place apart!" cried the loan shark.

"Oh, and I may have also stolen a car...and crashed it...into the loan shark's girlfriend." Mimzy threw out.

"You did what?!" cried Gwen.

"Hey, that bitch deserved it!" Mimzy protested.

"Sure, but thanks to you, we're faced with an influx of loan sharks prepared to dismantle this establishment due to your actions," complained Gwen.

"Hey, don't blame me sweetie. I thought I lost those guys when I came here." said Mimzy.

Before Gwen could say another word, the situation deteriorated rapidly.

Cliffhanger
