Odina's POV
I sat listening to some classical music while Elijah read over our mother's grimoire. One thing that I knew for certain was that he would always forgive me. I also knew that he would not make fun of me for my current predicament like everyone else did. I also had a bit of theory of who was responsible for it, but I was not going to accuse her of it. It did seem like something a witch of her power could do. As much as I despised her for being more powerful than me, I couldn't help but feel sorry for all that she had been there. I had a book of my own. We probably shouldn't have just left the body in the middle of the room though.
"So what are we doing?" Tina asked. Elijah didn't say anything and neither did I. At that point, Rebekah walked into the room.
"This is the first thing that you after Elijah comes back? Vampire book club?" She asked.
"Some of us like to appreciate the written word." I declared.
"Yes. I do like reading." Elijah remarked.
"And why is this here?" Rebekah asked referring to the body.
"This is a peace offering. I assumed that my big brother would be a bit thirsty after so much time in a coffin." I explained.
"And I explained to my younger sister that forgiveness can't be bought." Elijah countered. "I'd personally rather see a change in behavior that indicates contrition and personal growth, not this…nonsense."
"Well I couldn't exactly let her go to waste." I stated. If Elijah wouldn't drink from her, I needed to.
"Well I suppose I'll go fetch the rubbish bin because she's staining a 200-year-old carpet." Rebekah responded. She then looked over at Tina. "Isn't this something our maid should deal with?"
"I would but I can't go outside to dispose of the body." Tina pointed out. I couldn't help but wonder if I could convince Elijah to convince Davina to make a daylight ring for her.
"I suppose she is." Elijah commented.
I then went back to the poem that I was reading. It did a good job summarizing my relationship with Marcel. I wanted to believe that he would be sufficient in protecting Davina. He also seemed like he was enjoying the idea of fatherhood and Elijah did speak highly of what he had heard. I saw Hayley walk through the room and I noticed the way that Elijah looked at her. He had developed feelings for the girl who was having my child.
He then got up and followed after her, laying the book down. He knew that I could take it, but he seemed like he trusted me enough not to. I heard him talking to her.
"So your brother likes her?" Tina asked.
"He would never admit to that." I declared. I then heard them talking about groceries. Hayley did not seem to be very appreciative of all that she had been through.
"Should I try to do something to make sure that they get some time alone together?" She asked.
"I don't think that we would get a chance to really play matchmaker." I commented. "It seems like Hayley always seems to get herself into trouble with her desire to leave her."
One thing that we would need to deal with was the fact that Hayley was still linked to Sophie Devereaux. We should try to find a way to break that link. I knew that we did have a way to do so, but Elijah would have to find a way to convince Davina to do that. It was unfortunate that I no longer had any witches of my own. Elijah did seem to agree with that assessment. Rebekah also seemed ready to kill someone, even though Elijah assured her that it was unnecessary, before he backtracked and mentioned that we may need to kill all of the witches. That sounded fun.
I was continuing to read while Rebekah and Tina were cleaning up the mess. I may have been a woman, but cleaning was still not something that I enjoyed. I noticed that my sister did not seem to be thrilled by me just watching them.
"You know you could do more than just sit and read that book." She commented.
"I would but I don't want to ruin my nails." I quipped.
"I think you're worried about being a mother." She declared. I hoped that I would be back in my own body by the time the baby was born.
"I can deal with having a child. I've done it before." I replied.
"You missed over ten years of your child's life." She pointed out.
"That was not my fault. I didn't know of her until she was already a teenager." I argued. "Besides with Elijah back, we don't have to worry about anything anymore. It's all pixie dust now."
"Strange. I don't recall any pixie dust from the darkness of the coffin I was forced into." Elijah quipped.
"What are you doing with Mother's spell book?" Rebekah asked as he ripped out some pages.
"Well in exchange for my freedom, I promised the witch Davina that I would share a few pages from Mother's grimoire." He explained. "I'm going to help her learn to control her magic and I'm going to beginning with a little unlinking spell."
"Wait you want to use her to unlink Hayley from Sophie Devereaux?" She questioned. I wondered if he would be honest with her, but also not too honest because I did not want Marcel to know about Hayley just yet.
"Sophie brought us to this town under false pretenses. She doesn't just want to take down Marcel and his minions. She wants to take Davina back." Elijah explained. Elijah was the most moral of all of us, but it was probably worse to piss him off than Rebekah and I combined. If Sophie wasn't linked to Hayley, he would probably kill her right now. "So she yoked her own cause to ours with magic threats and half-truths. Well no more. As of now, our deal with Sophie Devereaux is null and void. Odina, you need to come with me. I need five minutes alone with Davina and I need you to distract your son so I am not interrupted. You two can stay and watch Hayley."
I got up and looked over my dress. I had developed a sense of style what people called modern vintage, even though it was an oxymoron. The dresses were somewhat extravagant without looking frumpy.
"How did I get elected nanny?" Rebekah asked.
"I'm more concerned about him being put in charge." I declared. Just because he was the oldest of us didn't mean that he got to command us.
Davina's POV
I was drawing in my room. A lot of my art was abstract. I suddenly heard a knock and turned to see Elijah standing there. I smiled upon seeing him. I was a little bit surprised that he had come back. He also had something in his hand.
"I made you a promise." He declared. I had to admit that I wasn't used to people fulfilling those promises.
"Come in." I invited. I was really excited to learn some new spells. I did feel that he would have a hand in deciding which spells I would learn, but I still assumed that they would be ones that I didn't already know. However, I was a bit underwhelmed when I saw what he had brought me. "A spell of unknotting?"
"This is a sanguine knot." He explained as he held up the rope. "The witches use it as representational magic. If you can unknot this rope using that spell, you'll have taken an important step towards control. This is one of my mother's later spells. It requires much more power than you realize."
I knew that magic wasn't all fun and games, but I had to admit that it sounded boring.
"Now if you can perform this, I shall return with another page." He proposed. I didn't know why he wanted me to start out with something so small. "A spell of your choosing next time."
Okay, such a reward did sound like it was exciting. I wasn't entirely sure what I would ask for. I couldn't exactly research what was in the book. Well there was one thing that I was curious about. I wondered if the spell that she used to turn them into vampires could be adapted to be used on a vampire. I wanted to make sure that Marcel couldn't be killed, at least not in ways that a normal vampire could.
However, I decided to use the number that I had been given first. I wanted some more information about Elijah from an unbiased source, so I called her. Marcel had given me a prepaid cellphone because he thought the witches might be able to notice the old phone. He told me to only use in case of emergency and to be fair, I hadn't used it at all.
"Hello?" She answered.
"Are you Elena?" I asked her.
"Yes. Who is this?" She replied.
"My name is Davina Claire. I wanted to talk to you about Elijah Mikaelson." I said.
"Forgive me for thinking that feels weird, but why are calling me like he's applying for a job or something?" She questioned. "I still don't know who you are."
"I'm 16 years old and I'm a witch. I live in New Orleans." I explained. "He told me that I could talk to you."
"Well I'm 19 and I'm my first semester of college. I'm a vampire." She declared. "So how do you know Elijah?"
"It's kind of complicated. How do you know him?" I asked. I couldn't help but wonder how this 19-year-old girl had come across an Original and why Elijah suggested that I talk to her.
"I'm not sure that I should tell you." She declared.
"I don't even know what you look like." I stated. "I'm just trying to find out more about him."
"Do you have access to a computer?" She questioned. I kind of wished that I did.
"I don't. I'm sorry." I told her. "Can we talk over the phone right now? We can try to get to know each other better."
"Okay. Do you have any siblings?" She asked.
"No it's just me and my adoptive father." I declared. "What about you?"
"I have a younger brother." She answered. "He's really the only family I have left."
Odina's POV
Elijah and I went to Rousseau's where we heard there had been a disturbance. When we got there, we found Sabine on the floor.
"What happened?" Elijah asked as he helped her up.
"It was Agnes. Her men took Sophie." She explained.
"You've been in charge for one day and already the witch linked to Hayley has been abducted by zealots." I pointed out.
"Where is she?" Elijah asked.
"If I tell you where Agnes is, you'll just kill her." She remarked. I was glad that she understood the plan.
"Yes that is what I want to do. I don't really to take well to people who want to harm my unborn child." I admitted.
"I know that she's a little…cuckoo, but she's our last living elder. That might not mean much to you but it means a lot to us. The elders are the only ones who can do important spells." Sabine replied.
"Like completing the Harvest ritual." Elijah remarked. That seemed like more of a reason to kill her.
"You know about that?" She asked in surprise. We had all learned from different sources.
"We know a lot of things." I piped in. "I will also tell you about our list of priorities. First we want to unlink your friend Sophie from Hayley. Second, I need to convince my brother to accept my apology and…well there really isn't anything after that."
"I believe what my sister is trying to say is that we don't care about the life of this elder, nor the Harvest or your coven's connection to magic." Elijah summarized. There was a reason why we hadn't told them about Davina's whereabouts. "Now talk."
Davina's POV
"So you like to draw, you have a bit of a troubled past. You sound kind of like my brother's dream girl." She joked. Of course, considering what she told me about her brother's past relationships, I didn't think that I'd want to date him. "And I can't believe you turned Klaus into a girl. Damon is going to laugh so hard when he finds out about that."
"Who's Damon?" I asked.
"He's my boyfriend." She answered. "Anyway, I need to get going. I'd love to talk to you again sometime."
"I'll make sure to call you again." I explained. It was nice to have someone that I could talk to, even if she was all the way in Virginia. She hung up and I started to get to work on the spell.
Odina's POV
We found Sophie in a tomb. She was chained up but we were quickly able to free her.
"Agnes stuck me with a needle." She remarked. She seemed like she was in pain. "Cursed objects were created a long time ago. We use them so we don't get busted by Marcel for using magic. The one that she used was called The Needle of Sorrows. It was cursed in 1860…"
"We don't need to know the story behind it. We just need to know what it does." I interrupted.
"It has one purpose. To kill a child in utero by raising our blood temperature." Sophie explained. I could not believe that witches were using magic for abortions. I always thought that such a thing should be at the choice of the parties involved.
"It's for a miscarriage." Elijah noted. "So how much time do we have to fix this?"
I supposed that prevent the miscarriage was more important than killing Agnes at the moment, but I did know that as soon as I found out where she was, I was going to kill her in the most gruesome way possible.
"And believe me, it will work. I saw her use a similar object on a kid that went mad and killed a bunch of priests." Sophie explained. Well now I wanted to make her suffer, however, I knew that actually decreased the chance of her dying.
"I am going to have a little chat with this Agnes." I announced. "Where can I find her?"
"You won't." Sophie countered. "She knows that you will be coming after her and she will hide wherever she needs to wait it out."
"That's why we need to unlink you from Hayley." Elijah stated. "There will be no much danger towards her or the child."
"No." She declared as she stood up. "If I am not linked to Hayley, I lose my leverage on you. We had a deal."
"We are not on the same side, Sophie Devereaux, Our deal no longer stands." He warned her. I kind of wished to kill her as soon as they were unlinked, but it probably wasn't necessary to do so.
"Though I can propose a deal that will keep you safe. If you help us save Hayley's life, I will make it so your life won't be harmed as you long as you don't try to harm her, my unborn child or Davina. I'll let you think it over."
Davina's POV
The first thing that I noticed was the spell seemed to be more difficult than I thought it was. It did seem like he was testing me a little, but I couldn't help but wonder if there was some other reason that he was doing it. I hoped that I was wrong and he didn't want to use my power for anything else.
I knew that something was going on downstairs. I was pretty sure that the humans were having a meeting. Part of me wanted to go and see them and find out what they were talking about. I didn't think that they knew that I had done it. As far as I knew, the Originals and Father Kieran were the only other ones that knew that I was here. Part of me wondered if I could go in for a confessional sometime, but I didn't know if he would understand me.
Odina's POV
I walked into the church where the humans were meeting. Unlike Elijah or Rebekah, I could not take Davina even if I wanted to.
"Marcel overstepped his boundaries. I will handle it." Father Kieran stated.
"Easier said than done." I interrupted as I walked into the room. I wasn't sure how many of them knew who I was. Their security guard tried to stop me but I effortlessly threw him to the ground.
"This isn't really a place for a girl like you." The mayor told me.
"My name is Odina Mikaelson and I suppose y'all must be the human faction." I remarked. You know I never really got used to that term. "You're the pillars of the community who maintain the city's supernatural balance. You are looking at the creator of this group. Well when I did it, it was a bunch of pirates and corrupt politicians…so I guess that didn't change."
"One thing has. It's exclusively human now. No vampires allowed, especially no Originals." Kieran stated. I couldn't help but giggle.
"You think I'd want to join?" I asked through my laughter. "I'm just asking you to help me find a witch elder named Agnes. I just need an address."
"Why would we tell you this?' He countered.
"What if I told you that Agnes was the one who hexed your nephew to go on a murderous rampage?" I questioned.
"We'd need some time to discuss this." Kieran replied. I could tell that he was at least considering it.
"I DON'T HAVE TIME!" I yelled as he chuckled. "I also don't like being asked to wait."
"You may have all of the vampires in this town cowering in fear, but right now you are dealing with the humans." He stated. Was I supposed to be impressed by that. "So unless you plan on killing all of us, I politely ask that you do as I say and give us time to discuss it."
"You know I can't help but be impressed by you, Father. You are very aware of who I am, but you do not fear me. Because I admire you so much, I will give you one hour."
I then walked away, but I managed to hear that he was just as interested in finding Agnes as I was.
Davina's POV
I was beginning to get frustrated that the spell was not working. I couldn't believe that this was so difficult. The other question was why I needed to do this, but still I had to do it because I didn't want to look like someone who gave up and I didn't want Elijah to think that I couldn't do something. So I would have to keep trying.
Odina's POV
An hour later, I returned just like I said I would. I noticed that the group was gone, all except for Kieran. I found him grabbing his coat.
"Are you going somewhere?" I asked him.
"You're five minutes early." He stated.
"Well it's a good thing that I am. You seem hellbent on enacting vengeance all by yourself." I pointed out "Is revenge frowned upon in that book you worship? Also on top of that, I need something from Agnes before you kill her. So I think that we should make a deal. How about you bring her here. In exchange, I will personally guarantee that Cami receives no harm."
Of course, I did realize that there was a little bit of risk to bringing her to the same place as Davina, but I had no doubt that she wouldn't even see Davina.
"You know it would be a real shame if she got caught up in this." I added. I didn't really have any intention of hurting her. I could see that Marcel liked her a lot and I would much rather he date her than try to do anything with my sister, but I could tell that it seemed to get his attention.
Not long after, Agnes was brought in by the police.
"This is outrageous. What's the charge?" Agnes asked. I could think of at least one direct murder since she had killed Sophie's niece as well as her hex could probably be ten counts of solicitation of murder and attempting to cause a miscarriage had to be attempted murder.
"You know that Marcel runs the vampires in this town. Who do you think runs everything else?" He asked as he looked over the needle "I believe this is what you're looking for."
At that point, I came out and took the needle.
"Hello Agnes, I look a bit different from the first time we met." I announced.
"After what you did to Sean, I'd deal with the devil himself just to see you suffer." He argued.
"You can't hurt me. The entire witch community will turn against you." She stated.
"Enough!" I shouted. I then lowered my voice and walked over. "Please, enough. I don't care about witch politics or your Harvest ritual. What I care about now is this. I want you to undo its curse or I will show you things worse than death."
"Dark objects don't come with an off switch." She declared. "The curse took root in Sophie. She's linked to your devil child. It's just a matter of time."
"Well then this is going to be fun." I announced.
Davina's POV
I looked over the spell again to see if there was anything that I was doing wrong. I had to make sure that I was pronouncing every word correctly. I then decided to try something else. Instead of looking at the knot to see if it came untied, I held it in my hand and closed my eyes and said the words to myself. I repeated them over and over and began to pull on it. I then felt it starting to unravel and opened my eyes and watched it untie itself. I was proud. I had done it. I couldn't help but smile. I started to think of what kind of spell I would ask for. Perhaps I should ask for the original vampire spell. He might know that I was up to something. Not to mention, it may require me to have things that I did not have and I still didn't know if I could use it on a vampire.
Odina's POV
At that point, I got a call from Elijah.
"It's me. Where are you?" He asked.
"I'm at St. Anne's church. I have Agnes and I am ready to tear her apart." I explained.
"No, don't hurt her. I'll be there shortly." He declared before he hung up.
I sighed. He had to go and ruin my fun. Though, it was possible that Elijah wanted to see her die so he fulfill his own sense of vengeance for what she had tried to do Hayley.
"So I have some good news for you." I told her. "It turns out that you get to live a little bit longer at least until my brother gets here."
I had to admit that I was feeling a little bit impatient. Of course, I could torture herself a little bit psychologically. That sounded like it could be a good time.
"You how do you sleep at night?" I asked her. "Do you ever lie awake thinking about those boys that you forced Sean to kill or maybe you think you think about those three girls whose throats you slit, including the one you did personally."
"The Harvest must be completed. It was all a means to an end." She stated. "And you're not one to lecture me. I'm sure you've killed hundreds if not thousands more than I have."
"Maybe I have, but I've never tried to paint it as anything else but self-gratification." I pointed out. "At least I am willing to admit that I'm a monster. I even contemplated living bits of you artfully arranged outside your family's tomb. I thought it would leave a fitting message. It would be a warning to everyone of what happens if you try to harm my family."
I grabbed her by the neck as I heard someone come in.
"Leave her." Elijah ordered. "I gave my word to Sophie."
"What is with you always giving your word at the most inopportune times?" I questioned. "You know it is very easy for me just to break her neck. She of all people deserves it."
"Niklaus do not make another move." He warned me. He needed to call me by my chosen name for this form. "You have asked for my forgiveness and I will grant you my forgiveness, but do not cause me to break my word."
I did realize that Elijah's word was to specifically not allow me to kill her. That was when I understood it. He wasn't going to let me kill her because he planned on doing it himself.
"Here you are, my noble brother." I stated. "I believe that I've made some personal growth. I can't believe you would spoil my fun. I feel that you should make it up to me."
"I plan on making this very fun for you." He promised. He then came and ripped out the hearts of the witches that were guarding her. I didn't think that was particularly necessary, but I supposed we didn't need any witnesses. He then took out his handkerchief to clean his hands off. "Now I swore that you would not die by my sister's hands. I said nothing of my own. No one hurts my family and lives."
He then ran over and broke her neck and I couldn't help but be proud of him.
"No one." He repeated as he walked away.
Part of me wanted to go and visit Davina upstairs, but I was pretty sure that she was not interested in seeing me. I could tell her "thank you" for breaking the link on Hayley, but I wasn't sure if she knew that she had even done it. It would probably be best for me not to do anything to jeopardize her relationship with Elijah, but I did hope that he wouldn't continue to manipulate her. He probably could have told her that he needed her to break a link on someone close to him without telling all of the details. It probably wouldn't be a good idea to tell her that he was protecting a werewolf that was carrying my child because she could tell Marcel that.
I could also tell her of Agnes's demise, but I didn't feel the need to do so.
After I was done, I decided to fulfill my promise to Kieran. I went to go see Cami as she was closing up the restaurant. I thought about telling her who her boss really was. You know I had never actually seen her and Sophie at the same time. Did the two of them ever work together? I supposed that really didn't matter if they did.
"What are you doing here?" She asked. I knew that I could go for a drink as well, but I could wait.
"Do you remember the promise I made you?" I responded.
"Promise? No." She answered before she looked at me. "Yes. You promised you would find out what happened to Sean."
"And I did." I replied. "Your brother's behavior was not something mental. A witch hexed him to commit those murders and kill himself."
"I knew it. I knew he wasn't crazy." She replied. "Who is this witch?"
"You don't need to get revenge. She's already paid for her actions in blood." I explained.
"What? Wait you killed somebody?" She asked in confusion. She was shocked.
"I didn't actually kill her. It was my brother." I corrected. At that point, she slapped me. "Okay, I was not expecting that reaction."
"How the hell am I supposed to react?" She questioned angrily. "You made me culpable in a revenge murder that I never asked for."
"I've been alive for over a thousand years and I can assure you that many people have died for far less." I declared. "Besides, now you can find comfort in the truth."
"The truth? You compel me, you make me at peace with something that should be tearing me up inside." She stated. She really wasn't taking this well. "I don't know how, but I will undo whatever it is that you've done to me."
I knew that there were ways to resist compulsion. Caroline had told me that her father learned how to do so.
"And when I do, you're going to wish that you never laid eyes on me." She continued.
I thought about compelling her again, but I decided that it would be for the best for me to just leave. I was trying to see if I could find someone who wouldn't judge me for the things that I had done, and it looked like Camille was not going to be that person.
At that point, Marcel came up to me.
"Hey, where have you been?" He asked. "Are you still mad about our argument the other night?"
I turned around to look at him.
"No, that's water under the bridge." I assured him. I still didn't think that I was ready to take everything from him just yet.
"You know if you're interested, you can date Cami." He suggested. I didn't really think of her that way. "I feel that right now is not the time for me to pursue a relationship. Life is all about timing. Speaking of which, I went by your place earlier to commiserate over a drink, but I must have just missed you."
"The Palace Royal didn't suit me. I moved on weeks ago." I stated.
"No I mean your other place." He declared. "It's an interesting place for you to live in the same plantation where I was a slave. I guess that's why you never invited me over."
"You'll have to excuse my rudeness." I told him. "I'll speak to Elijah. Why don't you bring Davina too, you are both welcome, especially since you were so hospitable to him."
"Good. I look forward to it." He declared as he walked away.
I then went home to find out that Hayley was gone and Elijah was on the phone.
"Marcel was here." I announced. Had he been the one to take her?
So the main difference in this episode is that Davina and Elena got to speak for the first time. Will this lead to Elena eventually coming to New Orleans so they can meet face-to-face? Also Agnes is dead and Hayley has been taken. Please don't forget to review.
