"When it comes to criminals, there are rules that must be followed to keep control over their business or that of their territory. Titan, a former bodyguard of Machine Head had taken over his business and changed it to suit his needs and the community he lived in. Especially learning about the recent alien prisoners like Gold Digger running around causing trouble in the city, leaving him to take control and have them follow his rules. Otherwise, he'd handle them himself. But none of that mattered but the safety of his family and keeping his community from falling to low-tier villains who'd have a fight in the streets with a superhero."
Morning-Titan's Penthouse
Looking over the streets was the new crime boss of the city who unlike his predecessor, who cared for profit and power whenever there was a chance to gain from it. Titan on the other hand didn't as he saw to handle criminal activity without having it break out to the public and cause a scene. Right now in his office was the new crime boss being briefed by his second-in-command Isotope giving him news on what's been happening over the last few weeks.
"We've got word on our products being handled easily without the cops noticing, the gangs have managed to look over the stores you put in position from them being knocked over. Last but not least, Gold Digger handling the currency with your wife who managed to make a profit."
Reading off from his phone about what's been going on since Titan had to tell his wife how he got the building and control over Machine Head's empire, it was lucky for him she accepted his criminal background in exchange for helping on the side with money management so there weren't any mistakes made. Titan looked over at the window to see how peaceful the streets had become when he took over, he planned on keeping it that way as well as not letting anyone take it from him.
"Bring in Gold Digger. There's some questions I want to ask him."
Titan told Issotope to bring in the creature that helped him take down Machine Head while almost being killed by the criminals he'd recruited to kill the two and the heroes Titan asked to help him. Isotope teleported away within seconds before bringing in the treasure chest alien who looked confused at the sudden teleportation.
"I hate when you do that! I was in the middle of helping Fiona with her cookie business. She's quite the entrepreneur for someone so young."
Gold Digger praised Titan's daughter since he also had been given the occupation of looking after Fiona since he could protect her from attackers who wanted to hurt him emotionally. Taking a moment to look at his boss slash friend, Titan showed him an image on his phone about the recent news of the Guardian's breaking up and finding a member that appeared to coming from the same ship that Gold Digger was on.
"Do you know these people?"
He questioned the alien if he had any relations with the new 'heroes' that made their debut on the Guardians. Gold Digger however knew them and weren't heroes from how the news was announced since he had spent months on the ship amongst the various outlaws that Sledge had captured.
"Plasmora, Hunter, Bevil-Wing, and Puzzler. They were considered extremely dangerous since they had committed various crimes that included draining blood and terrifying people. But the fifth one, that's Snide."
Gold Digger responded in a frightened tone at the ammonite 'hero' who was standing at the edge acting like a loner similar to how the new Darkwing was doing near the Immortal's side. Titan took a minute to look at one of the new Guardian members that Gold Digger was afraid of and could feel that the alien couldn't be trusted.
"I've seen that guy before. Remember when you told me to scoop out for new aliens to have work for you? There was a fight that happened a year ago with that Invincible kid and Guardians going up against him, the bastard almost killed them."
Isotope informed Titan about how Snide was capable of taking out the team to now deciding out of nowhere to start working with them. He scoffed at what his second-in-command said before grabbing them a set of cups and pouring them a couple of drinks leaving Gold Digger and Isotope confused.
"The GDA fucked up. They had problems with their team and now decide to recruit bad guys on parole, the question is what they're getting out of it."
The boss explained what was happening within the defense agency and believed something was going on that would require having someone who could handle a team of superheroes to become one of them. Looking at Gold Digger with a questionable expression on his face, Titan wanted to know any information that could offer him any assistance if Snide or the new Guardians came his way.
"Well. Snide was the most dangerous alien in the galaxy who had been responsible for the destruction of ten planets, not that many prisoners on the ship could do that. However, I did hear rumors that he was hunting for someone. Twice as mean, twice as dangerous."
Informing Titan about what made Snide a powerful asset to have around the Guardians. Leaving Titan to wonder if he would need to prepare for anything serious that would come his way since he knew there were stronger people in the world than Invincible and Omni Man. Isotope finished his drink to which he wanted to say something important.
"Speaking of dangerous. The Order wishes to have a word with you to talk about you taking Machine Head's position. Mr. Liu is on his way to meet with you."
He announced which caught Titan by surprise leading him to break the cup in his hand since he'd heard about The Order from Machine Head whenever he'd talk about becoming a better crime boss than anyone. Gold Digger turned his head at what made his boss upset since he'd seen Titan handle anything without showing any expression of fear. Noticing how the treasure alien was looking at him with a confused look, Titan would have to brief him on who The Order was.
"The Order is this worldwide criminal organization that expands across the globe. Whatever crimes are happening, they are either in charge of it or committing it. I met Mr. Liu after I moved my family in, the guy is a mean old bastard. I've heard he could turn into a dragon and eat people."
Titan explained to Gold Digger how infamous they were and the one who was in charge. He gulped at the idea of someone turning into a fire-breathing reptile that could devour anyone who would make him angry and interfere with his business.
"But what would he want with you? Is it because of me and the others? Do you think he'll want to ship us off because he heard we're escaped outlaws? Do you think he'll sell us off?!"
Gold Digger panicked at what Liu would want from Titan since he started to become known as the boss of fugitive aliens with powers that could bring down superheroes. With them under The Order's control, they could get away with anything. Titan raised an eyebrow at him for thinking about that idea since Mr. Liu wasn't interested in monsters.
"He's already got monsters in his organization. He told me what he wanted when we first met and is something that I'm not planning on doing."
He responded to the worried Gold Digger on thinking of selling him and the other outlaws who worked for him to Mr. Liu. Feeling relieved on not being sold off since he could generate explosive money that would be perfect for crimes or assassination attempts. Just before Titan could continue with what the crime lord would want from Titan, they heard a pounding sound from the door which indicated he was here in the building. Gold Digger pulled out his pickaxe unsure of what would be coming into Titan's office, the three saw the door open wide with two bodies flying into the office and toward the floor.
"Boss? You got a visitor."
An injured Slammer announced as he and Bones had been injured badly by a large silent man who appeared like an ordinary person. Gold Digger thought that the large man was Mister Liu due to how strong he was in taking out Slammer and Bones. The idea was quickly diminished as the large man moved over to the side letting a small elderly man walk in who had white hair and a robotic jaw making him look like a cyborg.
"Titan! I want my assassin out of prison now!"
Mister Liu shouted in a fit of frustration and demanded Titan to free one of his men from prison. Gold Digger looked confused about what he was talking about as he went to check up on his partners while Mister Liu had his bodyguard take him inside the office and act like a chair for him to sit on. Titan looked at the elderly crime lord and sighed at Liu's request since it was complicated.
"We've talked about this Mr. Liu. Your assassin Multi-Paul got sloppy and exposed himself out in the open when attacked one of the Guardians. Besides, I already tried to break him out last month."
Responding to Liu's demand about breaking out someone vital to The Order if Liu wanted him out. What he didn't hear was Titan's attempt to break him out by hiring Furnace, Kill Cannon, and Kursk to free Multi-Paul. Only for the trio to be taken down by Invincible and Atom Eve who had been shown on the news.
"That is not good enough. I need him out now before he spills The Order's secrets, otherwise. I'll handle this myself and take your position from this city."
He threatened Titan on handling the matter today and removing him as the new boss of the city. Gold Digger and Isotope didn't know how Titan would respond to Liu since the old man could go after his family if he'd said the wrong thing, Titan straightened his tie and looked at him dead in the eye showing no fear from Liu despite having the ability to become a dragon or his bodyguard capable of handling the same aliens that could stand their ground against the Guardians and Invincible at the same time.
"The reason why I took over was because Machine Head was turning my neighborhood into a hellhole. And I'm not letting that happen again."
Informing Mister Liu on not breaking out Multi-Paul and letting him or the Order ruin all the work he'd done in making his home safe for both the community and his family. The old man said nothing but did a hand gesture which resulted in him passing out into his bodyguard's arms as the air from his body flew out of him. Floating in the air like a spirit, it started to grow bigger and form into a cyan-colored dragon with yellow scales and growling toward Titan.
"I'm going to check up on your wife and kid. Try not to die."
Isotope told Titan as he teleported out of the way in a frightened manner leaving Titan and Gold Digger to handle the dragon since Slammer and Bones were out of the fight. Liu used his immense size and claws to try and slash him to pieces but was distracted by Gold Digger who was throwing his explosive coins at him. It didn't affect him as the dragon rushed toward the alien and grabbed him with his teeth.
"I knew I get an unfortunate end at this job!"
Gold Digger cried out as Titan watched in horror of Mister Liu pressing his jaws down toward the alien as the weight caused him to explode into coins. Watching the monster he helped out and trusted to look after his daughter had been killed right in front of him. Attempting to go for the head, Liu tail whipped Titan out of the Office and outside for him to plummet to the ground.
"Guard my body."
The dragon informed his bodyguard to look after his unconscious self before he flew out of the penthouse and into the sky where he'd go to the prison that was keeping Multi-Paul imprisoned. Meanwhile, his bodyguard had the mission of keeping anyone from harming his master's body since he was defenseless when he changed into a dragon. However, with Bones and Slammer unconscious, the bodyguard could relax knowing that no one would stop them from retrieving their assassin.
Later-Detention Center
A few miles away from the city was a prison that kept various criminals who weren't major threats but kept several with powers away from the public. It was a slow day with nothing happening since the last bit of excitement that happened was with Invincible and Atom Eve offering their services in stopping a breakout. The guards did their daily route of looking at the prisoners who were out in the yard playing ball, not noticing that the sky was something flying above them. One of the prisoners who stopped for a minute to take a breather looked upward at a shadow that passed over him and thought it was a plane, only for him to be wrong.
"What the fuck is that?!"
He called out in a frantic tone as it caught the attention of the other prisoners who saw a large dragon descending upon them. Landing on all four in the prison yard, Liu let out a fearsome roar to announce his arrival as he was met with a variety of bullets that the guards were firing off. They bounced off his body as Liu slammed his tail to the ground causing the ground to shake.
"Where is my assassin?!"
Questioning where Multi-Paul was located his response was met with more bullets with the guards believing it was enough to stop him. Looking down at the humans and about the kill them, he was stopped by a set of webs that kept his mouth closed. Liu looked over to see who was responsible for it as the aggressor was Agent Spider, who was leading Molly Mauler, Bulletproof, and Professor Strickler to fight him.
"I thought you said we'd go hang out somewhere where we could have fun. Not at a prison with a freaking dragon."
Bulletproof called out at Agent Spider for the meetup since the former Guardian had left the team as well as the others to be his own superhero. The web-slinger couldn't respond at the moment since he was helping the prison staff round up the inmates who were taking the chaos to try and escape from the yard.
"You don't consider this fun? I never got to fight a dragon before. This is a first for me."
Responding toward the yellow suit hero who was avoiding the dragon's fire as Liu was igniting the air with flames in an attempt to burn Bulletproof. Molly and Stricker were on the ground trying to take out Liu's legs but were at a disadvantage due to how large they were.
"Despite it being larger. The creature still has weaknesses such as the toes."
Stricker informed Molly which the professor showed by pulling out a sword from his backside that resembled school supplies as he stabs Liu's big toe. The dragon let out a roar before backhanding him to the wall and leaving Molly to handle the dragon on the ground. However, she wasn't unprepared like Stricker was since she'd brought in a backpack that was attached to a gatling gun and started to shoot his neck.
"Bulletproof! Go through the head, Mach speed!"
The blue woman told the only person on the team that could fly since he was durable enough to go straight through Liu's head. Just as Bulletproof had avoided being engulfed in the flames, he saw from the side was Agent Spider finishing rounding up the prisoners before helping out Molly and Strickler keeping Liu in position for Bulletproof to go for the kill.
"Mach speed she says. What am I, a fighter jet?"
Questioning about how fast she wanted him to go into the stratosphere, the young adult flew upward in the air since he'd need the right amount of force to end the dragon in one blow. Restraining him to the best of their capability, the dragon used his weight to overwhelm them and took the three out in one blow.
"Your powers might be extraordinary. But mine come from beyond this reality."
Liu told them with his thoughts as he started to generate fire from within and burn them all with one blast. Only to hear a booming sound from the air as the sonic barrier had been broken by Bulletproof who was coming downward at the dragon at full speed. While he couldn't go straight through the dragon's head, he was able to crash into Liu's head crushing his skull which caved into his brain. Bleeding from his head and unable to get back up, the dragon appeared to be beaten and not getting back up to continue the fight.
"You know you're paying for my dry cleaning for this, right? Because I'm trying to avoid getting covered in blood whenever I'm on patrol."
Bulletproof telling Agent Spider since he was the one that brought him in and not talking about the dragon they'd be fighting. Thinking that the fight was over, they heard a growl coming from behind them and saw the dragon's fatal injury regenerating as it raised its head over the four and got angrier than before.
"This foolish interference ends now!"
Liu told the group as he was about to devour them all leaving the heroes unable to escape or avoid being chomped on. Thinking that it was over for them and preparing for the worst, Liu's body suddenly imploded and turned to dust. Confused at what just happened and preparing to face death, they saw that the fighting had finished with no signs of the dragon returning.
"Fascinating. He had us in his sight and could have killed us, I'd give him a positive grade if he was my student. But a failure for leaving!"
Strickler shouted at how durable the dragon was in the fight despite being huge and calling out to leave without saying a word. Ignoring the alien's complement and taking a moment to breathe, the others saw the warden coming over with a medic unit to see if they needed help with the wounds they'd got from Liu.
"Not bad. I thought Invincible or the new Guardians would come to help us out, nevertheless, thank you. We're doing a check on any prisoners who managed to escape during the commotion."
She informed the heroes and complimented them on keeping the prison as stable as possible since she'd never seen them out in public. While they accepted the help and took the moment to relax from the stressful fight, Strickler continued to ponder what could have caused the dragon to vanish for no reason right when he was about to win. The chalkboard-faced alien started to get infuriated at this confusion since it could mean two things, that the beast had another matter that needed him or something caused him to vanish on purpose. Other than that, he'd have to look into another day since he would be required to help repair the damages that happened in the prison.
Unknown Location
Right now in a hallway was Titan who appeared unscathed and had no injuries on his body despite having fought a dragon in his penthouse. He was looking at a gold coin which represented what was left of Gold Digger after being chomped into pieces by Mr. Liu. Feeling upset for not having a chance to save him, Titan heard the doors open up to show someone making a grand entrance and the crime boss's attention focused on the person. It was Machine Head, who was back in the same suit he was arrested in and looked better than ever.
"Titan. You clever rocky backstabber, I'd never taken you for the thinker with having pebbles for brains. Having Isotope teleport me out of the prison for me to kill Mr. Liu, also that huge bodyguard was a pain, don't want to get into it. But all the while make a deal to keep Chicago for yourself and me to take leadership of The Order? Marvelous."
The former crime boss now soon-to-be-lord of The Order would be in charge of handling all the crimes that were happening in the world. Walking over to Titan in a charismatic manner of how he would enjoy his new position, the larger man stood in front of Machine Head showing there was another part to his plan.
"I broke you out because I want Chicago to not end up another warzone for The Order's business. And to keep it out of my city."
Bringing up their agreement in exchange for helping Machine Head take Mr. Liu and his bodyguard. Titan would keep Chicago while continuing criminal activity under his control without spiraling out of control by the likes of Mr. Liu and his partners. Machine Head stared at Titan in silence as he wasn't the muscle he'd bring in to handle his business but now became his own man who handled business his way.
"Of course. Besides, I know that if you try to stab me in the back. I'm going to drown you in your kid's blood and rip the skin off your wife's body. Fair's fair, right?"
Asking Titan and threatening him about how he played Liu and him to become Chicago's new crime boss. Only nodding toward Machine Head's threat, the two made their way down the hallway where the rest of The Order was waiting for their new boss to take his sit at the head of the table.
"Did you know that Tether Tyrant and Magmaniac were a couple? It freaked me out when I saw them break out of the prison together. Might want to hire them since you're going need new help after that treasure guy got killed."
Suggesting to him about hiring the same people who were capable of fighting Invincible and the Guardians since Gold Digger was now dead. Titan said nothing but could tell The Order was in trouble if Machine Head would be handling their business since he killed Mr. Liu which gave him the position of leader. The two walked in to find the various crime bosses sitting at the table looking at them in silence with a set of guards across the room.
"What's with the dopey looks? This is a time to get excited as hell! I'm going to be handling all the issues that The Order has been having trouble with since Mr. Liu is now dead. The first thing we need is to get these samurai guys out of the office, we're not a history museum here folks."
Commenting about how the atmosphere of the room felt dead and looking at the blue samurai who stood at attention as they pointed their spears at Machine Head and Titan. Confused at what was happening, they saw another door on the side opening which made members of The Order stand up at attention at the one who was in charge. Walking into the room was a fox woman wearing yellow robes and tiger shoulder pads, despite having an elegant appearance. Everyone in the room was afraid of her as she sat in the chair.
"Apologies for them not answering your question. After hearing about Mr. Liu's sudden death, they squabbled to see who'd be taking leadership. As you can see, I've been nominated."
She informed the two about what was happening and how the guards belonged to her as well as showing dominance over the other bosses. Machine Head wanted to question who she was but was hit against the side by the samurai guard standing near him.
"Where are my manners? I am Madame Odious, the yokai responsible for giving Mr. Liu his powers in exchange for him allowing me entrance to this reality."
Introducing herself to the two as she had her guards take away Machine Head since she overheard about him believing he'd take charge of the group. Titan didn't know if he'd had to fight his way out of the room since it appeared she wouldn't honor the agreement that was made. However, Odious lifted her hand to show there was no reason to fight.
"Calm yourself. I'm not looking to take back Chicago, there are more pressing matters that the Order needs to handle. To show I'm telling the truth, allow me to show you what I'm capable of."
Odious informed him as took out a golden mallet from her side and took the gold coin that was in Titan's pocket and lifted it into the air. Taking out a black from her robes, she placed it on the coin before shaking her mallet once causing the two to slowly change into a creature. Everyone watched the transformation happening in front of them as Titan saw Gold Digger returning from the dead, only for him to have several features that belonged to Spellbinder, the bird outlaw who worked for Machine Head before being taken by Battle Beast.
"Woah, I'm back. But I'm neither Spellbinder nor Gold Digger, I'm Spell Digger!"
Announcing his new name and was surprised at being brought back from the dead. Looking behind him and seeing Odious glaring at him, Spell Digger rushed over to Titan's side indicating it was Gold Digger but reincarnated as a new creature. Odious gestured Titan to go as their business had been settled leaving the others to look at their new leader.
"Having that annoyance out of the way. Let us get back to business, such as keeping ourselves from being noticed."
She informed them about how Mr. Liu's rash behavior could have jeopardized them if he'd been caught by the heroes or the GDA. Meaning they would have to remain in the shadows if they were to continue being in control of the criminal underworld and preparing for what lay ahead since the world was changing. Meaning they had to get smarter or end up like their former leader.
