"Mark Grayson had finally reached his breaking point. Not only did he have to endure the entire world blaming him for the mass destruction caused by his evil counterpart, Levy Angstrom, but he also felt a heavy sense of responsibility for the lives he had not saved. Now, he was confronted by another Viltrumite who dared to lecture him about his "duty" to his people, a duty that Mark had rejected because he wanted nothing to do with them. His response to the Viltrumite named Conquest was satisfying in a way that made the old man eager to fight. Mark was unaware of the challenges he would face when Conquest arrived; all that mattered to him was releasing his anger and frustration on the one alien species capable of withstanding his attacks that could take anyone out on Earth."
Morning-Chicago
In the ruins of what was once an ordinary city, now reduced to a wasteland, Invincible faced a Viltrumite named Conquest. Mark explained to Conquest that he wanted to fight as a way to cope with the trauma he had experienced over the past three days. This was precisely what Conquest wanted, as he anticipated the boy charging at him with his fist ready to strike. However, Conquest countered by hitting Invincible, sending him crashing to the ground and creating a crater. Mark tried to get himself to focus his senses as he looked up to see Conquest in the air floating over him.
"Right about now, Anissa would tell you how the Viltrum Empire would turn this wretched planet into a utopia. How you would be stupid to resist."
The old Viltrumite reminded him about what Anissa had told him about the promises that the world would be given to once Earth was under their authority. But the look in Conquest's left eye made Mark see something different than the Viltrumites he'd encountered.
"I'll tell you no such thing. The truth is, I want you to resist."
Admitting the truth about his intention on arriving to Earth and meeting the young man who has been causing trouble to the Viltrum Empire. He descends to the ground and watches Invincible shaking off the attack he gave him.
"I'm not here to save you. I'm not here to spread the greatness of the Viltrum Empire. I'm here because I enjoy this."
Conquest stated that he enjoyed fighting anyone who posed a problem toward his people to that of being denied their planet collecting. Out of everyone in the empire who followed orders and focused on completing their mission without delay, Conquest wanted nothing more but to fight.
"See, to me, there is no greater pleasure than feeling the warmth of my fists drenched in blood."
Informing him in a sadistic manner as Conquest walked over to Mark and wanted to see what the Viltrumite boy was made of. Invincible put all his strength into his right fist and sent the old man flying into the air which left the soldier to stop in midair and surprised at the force he felt from that punch.
"Okay. That's a start."
Responding to Mark's punch as he watched Invincible fly into him and start to send him crashing into various buildings. Feeling the impact of each building he was feeling, Conquest smiled at the excitement he was receiving from the fight. Flying into the last building, it started to come down on them in an attempt to let the concrete and metal bury him. Only for Conquest to punch a hole through the debris and look at the remains to see Invincible not having the same endurance that he had.
"What a rush! The others told me it be dull fighting with how poorly you fought back on Thraxa. I'm glad they were wrong. You know how to fight dirty."
Informing Invincible about being informed of his fighting skills and thinking he wouldn't be given a proper fight. Pulling him out of the rubble, he didn't see Mark uppercutting him and continued the fight in the air as Invincible stared at Conquest with the expression of not letting Conquest get away from him.
"I'm just getting started."
Replying about not even trying, he continued punching Conquest as he sent him upward into the air as they took the fight into the stratosphere. Not having a moment to respond to Invincible's attack, the Viltrumite boy sent the old man back into space where he gets some distance from Mark. Watching Conquest floating in the emptiness of space with Earth behind his back, he noticed the old man bleeding from the nose which surprised him due to it being the first time he had bled before. Taking it from his nose, Conquest makes the blood into a small heart in an attempt to mess with Mark.
"The hell?"
Mark thought to himself on seeing the blood made heart as Conquest broke it with his metal fingers and flew directly into Mark and returned to the stratosphere. Mark tried to break free from Conquest's grip but was unable to as the old man used Invincible's body to hit the ground. The impact caused the buildings around the two to grumble behind them, the Viltrumite warrior looked at the destruction they'd just done and was enjoying what they doing to the environment with their fighting.
"Come on kid. Don't tell me that's all you got."
He questioned Mark to see if the crash landing had taken the fight out of him, only to feel Invincible punching him in the stomach sending him flying out of the city. Flying after Conquest to presume their fight in the air, the Viltrumites continued to hit each other to see which of them would admit defeat. Their struggle left them to fly out of Chicago and go to another city on the other side of the state. Hitting the pavement and destroying several cars, Invincible felt his body shaking since he'd never felt this type of power from anyone before.
"Yes! I need more of this! Don't hold anything back!"
Conquest encouraged Invincible to not get soft on him and to put all his strength into fighting him. Mark watched the old man starting to walk slowly before running toward him at full speed and preparing to throw another punch that could destroy the city around them. Only for Mark to stand his ground and block Conquest's punch, the impact caused the windows around them to shatter and the ground beneath their feet to crack.
"Not here. Somewhere else, far away from the people. I'll keep fighting you without anyone getting in the way."
Mark pleaded to the Viltrumite to move the battle elsewhere that wouldn't involve people getting killed during their rumble. Conquest could hear from the side whimpering which came from several humans who managed to survive the shockwave he sent with his blow toward Mark. The old man kicks Mark in the stomach before grabbing him by the neck and slamming him to the ground.
"Why should I care if people get hurt? I've done it a thousand times on countless worlds. It helps keep things exciting seeing people die all around you. Maybe, you need the right motivation to make you take this seriously."
Responding to his request as Conquest looked over at the humans with a sadistic look as he was about to kill them without using his fists. Before getting the chance, the old man didn't see someone flying at him and delivering a punch to the face that sent Conquest flying across the street. It came from Oliver who arrived in time to give the people the chance to escape, he looked over at Conquest to see him getting back up which left the Viltrumite hybrid to fly at him at full speed.
"Big ass beatdown coming right up!"
Oliver called out preparing to fight the Viltrumite. Only to be given a downward smack that stopped Oliver in midair and grabbed him by the leg since he wanted to take a look at his surprise attacker.
"And you are? I don't exactly like dismembering people without getting to know them."
Questioning the kid about his name and showing no sign of sparing Oliver. It left him open for Invincible to come in and punch him in the face again to give the brothers some space and time to recuperate. Helping Oliver up and looking scared for his safety, they saw Conquest getting up and slowly menacingly walking toward them.
"Oliver. Run."
"No. I'm staying, we can fight him together."
He responded to Mark about not letting him fight this psychopath alone since it was better they fought together. Not taking the chance of seeing him die, Mark throws Oliver to the side and takes Conquest who flies at him and gives him the same treatment he gave him back in Chicago. The old man started tackling Invincible through various buildings and making him feel the impact of each wall they destroyed.
"You should have kept the kid around. You're going to need all the help you can get if you plan on killing me, so far from what I've seen you've done nothing but show you don't know how to fight. You know nothing about what it means to be a Viltrumite!"
Conquest called out at how feeble Mark was during the fight they were having and showed how little he knew about not holding back. Invincible lets out a yell and stops himself from being thrown into buildings and slams Conquest to the ground. The young man started beating his face in to show how serious he was taking the fight; it didn't impress the old man as he stared at Mark before getting up while continuing to be punched.
"You've disappointed me."
Replying to him as Conquest was going to chop Mark's head off with a single chop. Only to be stopped by Oliver coming up from behind and choking him out with his left arm, Conquest laughs at the boy's attempt to strangle him and kicks Invincible away to focus his attention on him.
"Nice of you to come back, kid. I was planning on splitting you in half and eating your heart once I was finished with this one. But I guess I can get right to it."
The old man told Oliver before grabbing him from behind his back and started slamming Oliver to the ground repeatedly. Continuing to toss him around like a ragdoll and causing the boy to lose his teeth, Conquest holds him up in the air and slowly begins to tear him apart. Invincible tried to get up to try and help his brother but wasn't able to due to the injuries he'd sustained from Viltrumite.
"And here I thought the Viltrumites were soldiers. You're deranged."
A voice interrupted Conquest's moment in killing Oliver as he looked behind him to see someone who caught his attention before coming to Earth. Walking past the destroyed street and displaying the same menacing presence he did toward Invincible, it was Snide. The ammonite alien warrior that Anissa encountered when she tried to convince Invincible to take over the Earth.
"I like it."
Complimenting the old man's thirst for combat no matter who was killed in the process. Seeing the look on the creature's face in not caring about what he is up against, Conquest throws Oliver to the side and focuses his attention on him.
"This should be interesting."
The Viltrumite responded to him as they engaged in a fist-to-fist fight against each other as the punches that were landing on Snide. The more it powered him as he used Conquest's strength against him and delivered the same blows he was receiving. Watching the two mad men going at it with no signs of stopping, Invincible looked over to Oliver and see if he was all right. Checking his vitals to see he was still alive, Mark looked over at Conquest and Snide who had enough of this senseless fighting.
"Enough."
Mark mentally thinking to himself as he launched himself toward the two and took them out of the city with the three of them fighting in the air. On the ground near Oliver was Cecil teleporting to the scene with a medical team to assist with giving the child treatment.
"Call Debbie and tell her we're bringing Oliver in right now. He's still alive."
The director reported to base about the concern his mother would have for Oliver's safety since the last thing Cecil wanted on his conscious was not being able to save someone else. Looking at the destroyed remains of the street and being informed by his agents about the trio taking the fight somewhere else, Cecil could hope that Snide could handle the Viltrumite and prevent the loss of Earth's last chance to stand up against the Viltrumites.
Later-Atlantic Ocean
Flying over the ocean at Mach speed was Conquest having his hands full with Invincible and Snide who tried to either overwhelm him or push him into the water. The old man was able to keep control of his flying and noticed them making their way to a beach filled with people who didn't notice them.
"Let's make this fight more exciting!"
Conquest announced as he put Invincible in an armlock and was going use him as a ram and go through the humans. Snide holding onto the back of Conquest and attempting to steer him off course, the ammonite alien shoots out his tentacles from his chest and blinds Conquest from flying through the humans.
"Mind if I take control?!"
He asked the Viltrumite before flying him upward from the beach to prevent any humans from being killed in their flight path. Raising Conquest in the air away from the people, he wasn't strong enough to prevent Conquest from smashing into several cars, buses, and trucks that exploded when he went through them. Making their way out of the city, the two were able to work together throwing Conquest toward a hill to which out of nowhere a pink wall appeared and crashed into the Viltrumite.
"No. Please no."
Mark begged the person he didn't want to be involved in the fight due to how violent Viltrumites can be to their opponents. Conquest managed to shake off the unusual construct placed in front of him along heard the sound of thunder appearing from above him. He felt a lightning bolt striking toward him as it sent the old man to the ground causing him to make a crater. He shook off the feeling as he saw in the air was Atom Eve and Fury who was using Robot's hoverbike.
"Get away from him you animal."
Eve told Conquest as the two came in to assist Mark in the fight which made the Viltrumite smirk at how much attention he was getting from the fight against Invincible. Obliging to her request, he flew toward the two as Fury was the first to tackle Conquest in midair and restrain him from moving.
"Trap us now!"
The red lion shouted to Eve as she concealed the two in a sphere as Fury started to build up an electrical explosion from within to attempt to take Conquest out along with himself in the process. The explosion sent Eve flying back as she stopped herself to see Conquest with half of his clothes burnt and a worn-out Fury who used up all of his power on the Viltrumite. Throwing the alien to the ground as if he were nothing, he focused his attention on Eve as the two began their fight. Invincible who managed to get back his strength tried to fly to Eve in the effort to help her, only for Snide to grab him by the leg and slam him back to the ground.
"You're still holding back. You need to understand this, Invincible. That certain people can't be beaten or surrender, they just need to die. Not because it will help everyone, but to make sure everyone knows not to underestimate you."
He informed Invincible that despite the attacks he gave Conquest and making the old Viltrumite bleed, it wasn't enough to take him down. Pulling out his sword and running to assist Eve in the fight, Mark could only watch as the two used all their strength and power to bring down Conquest. It wasn't enough as Snide was grabbed by the face and threw him around repeatedly before getting his back broken.
"Your next, kitten."
Conquest spoke to Eve as he threw Snide right by Fury and focused his attention on the human female. Despite what Snide had told him about not doing what it takes to take out someone completely, he got back up and flew toward the fight between Conquest and Eve. Only to see the old punching her in the stomach which earned an open gap.
"No!"
Mark cried out at his girlfriend as she collapsed on the ground showing no signs of her surviving the attack. Rushing over to check up on her, Conquest gave the grieving boy a chance to mourn her death while looking at his blood-covered hand.
"I cannot tell you, how happy you've made this old man. Back on Viltrum, I'm told not to kill, not to destroy, and not to have fun. But this place? These people? I can see why the Empire wants it. It knows how to get you."
"Shut up."
Conquest's monologue was cut short by Mark as the Viltrumite looked over to see Invincible getting up and walking over his deceased girlfriend with hatred in his eyes for the old man for what he'd done.
"I don't care how strong you are. I don't care how fast you are. I can see the future. You don't live to see tomorrow."
Informing Conquest that he was going to end him without giving the Viltrumite to escape or a chance to get the jump on him as Levy did in the past. Rolling his eyes at the feeble threat as Conquest flew at Invincible with the intent to end him with one fist, Mark did the same with his fist which at the exact moment their fists connected. Invincible was able to destroy Conquest's metal right hand while sacrificing his right arm when they collided. Before Conquest could react to his destroyed hand, he underestimated Mark's random attacks which caught him off guard. Only for the old man to get the advantage and use his left hand to pin Mark to the ground and prevent him from escaping. Hearing the sound of him gasping for air, Conquest looked at his destroyed arm as he couldn't help but let out a sigh of relief at losing a body part.
"You want to know something? In all of the Viltrumite Empire, nobody wants to be my friend. No matter how many worlds or people I bring to them, they're afraid of me. I'm nothing more than a weapon for them to use, hell. They didn't give me an actual name, just Conquest. The reason why I'm telling you this is because you're the first person to make me get serious. Take this to your grave knowing that I consider you my first friend."
The old man informed Mark about feeling like there was someone who he could stand up against and show no restraint in hurting him. Holding nothing back and snapping his neck with his hand, Mark's attention looked over to a bright light that showed Eve glowing pink showing herself regenerated from the injury she's sustained. Before having a chance to react to her coming back to life, Eve fires an energy blast that destroys the flesh off Conquest's body and causes him to collapse right in front of Invincible.
"Jerk."
Eve tells Conquest before passing out from the amount of power she used on him. Mark slowly stood up to try and check if she was alive, only to see Conquest getting up and agitated about not taking her out. Preventing him from killing Eve again, Conquest felt the fatally injured Invincible pinning him to the ground and started beating his face with his left arm. Conquest uses his left hand to break it, but it doesn't do anything to Mark as he uses his head to end the fight by headbutting Conquest's face repeatedly.
"Are you enjoying yourself? Still, having fun? Answer me!"
Shouting at the old man whose face was almost caved in and showed no signs of him being able to continue the fight. However, he lets out a laugh at Mark thinking that he could continue the fight, only to show no signs of responding to the young man's attack.
"I take. The good with the bad."
Conquest replied to Mark's questioning about how he enjoyed the beating as well as not at the same time. Letting out an angered yell at the Viltrumite, Mark started headbutting the old man repeatedly until he couldn't breathe and showed zero signs of getting back up. Getting up from the dead warrior, he stumbled his way toward Eve who was now naked from what could be described as a resurrection.
"You look terrible."
"Same to you."
They spoke to each other about the condition they were in and not able to get back on their feet. Standing over them was Fury, whose entire body was scorched from the electricity explosion he did to Conquest while carrying an injured Snide who managed to survive his back getting broken.
"I could have killed that bastard if I had the chance."
Snide remarks toward Mark and Eve stealing his kill since he believed he could have taken out Conquest. Fury said nothing but felt relieved to see the kid alive and impressed in killing what could be their strongest threat ever, especially with how the Viltrum Empire would respond to losing one of their strongest members.
Global Defense Agency Department
Three days had passed since the fight between Invincible and Conquest was heard across the world. Inside the base where they had gotten recordings from the videos about their fight, Cecil had ordered Sinclair to work on the reanimen and start a new production line that involved using the evil Invincibles that were killed during the war.
"What the fuck are you talking about?"
The director questioned the mad scientist he recruited to make the cyborg soldiers who had just been informed about now being able to get the new reanimen working. Sinclair was having trouble putting the cybernetic parts into the dead Viltrumite variants.
"There's so much work involved in rebuilding these bodies. We're inventing new tools to do it. It simply can't be rushed."
Sinclair responded to Cecil about the impossibility of making the deceased bodies functional since whatever tool he used on them. They broke once the tools touched their skin, and it seemed impossible to operate on them. Hearing this frustrated the old man as to how Sinclair wasn't taking the matter as seriously as he was.
"Did you see what that monster did to Invincible? He was just one Viltrumite, and I bet now that he's dead, there's gonna be a whole lot more on their way here."
Questioning him about the video he and the scientists were shown when Invincible and Conquest battled each other. It took him, Eve, Oliver, Fury, and Snide to bring him down. They would need to be prepared for what will be coming to Earth once Conquest's people learn about his death. Sinclair nodded nervously about how frightening the Viltrumite's power truly was.
"I had, of course, already considered this. But hearing it put so bluntly."
Responding to what was expected from him since his first reanimen were capable of taking out an evil Invincible. However, it wouldn't be the same when the rest of them would arrive. All of them are better prepared, skillful in a fight, and showing no regard for what they'll do to Earth once they make it here.
"I don't care what it takes. Get 'em finished, Sinclair."
Cecil instructed him about getting the new reanimen working since they needed to prepare if another war happened again. Leaving the scientist and his workers to continue with the experiments, Cecil made his way to his office where he turned on the television set where he saw the news about the superhero community hosting a funeral for Rex Splode. Everyone including the heroes who helped in the war, the remaining members of the Guardians as well as Mark's team of aliens were attending it. Including Invincible himself who was in a wheelchair with his mother, brother, and Eve standing by his side.
"Here's to Rex. Despite taking one of those bastards out, you made sure everyone will remember your name."
He complimented the deceased hero's sacrifice in taking out an Invincible variant, despite not being indestructible and powerful like the others. Pulling out a cup and bottle of whiskey to propose a toast to him, he felt a cold sensation from within the room that appeared out of nowhere.
"Did you miss me?"
A voice asked him, Cecil was able to recognize the person who wasn't visible in the room due to the cold feeling that came into the room. Appearing in a wink of an eye, Cecil was looking at a red-skinned demon wearing a white suit, a trench coat, and a detective hat. Lighting up a cigar with only a finger, he looked at the human with a not-so-friendly expression on his face. Cecil knew the demon as Damien Darkblood, the demon investigator, and the one responsible for sending Damien to hell.
"You prevented me from exposing the truth. You prevented me from giving everyone a chance to fight Omni-Man. You sent me back to hell."
The demon accused him of not being truthful to everyone at the beginning and taking the opportunity to kill Mark's father. The director wanted to call in security and prevent him from escaping since he could tell Mark and everyone about how he knew about Nolan being a threat.
"I had to learn about why he killed the original Guardians. If you told everyone, then Nolan would have killed everyone. I had no choice."
Cecil responded to Damien on why he kept secret from everyone and Mark's family since it would do nothing but increase the body count on the day Omni Man revealed his true identity. The demon kept his yellow eyes on him and saw how anxious Cecil was getting in thinking he was here for revenge.
"Don't think I dug myself out of hell to get revenge on you. I'm here because she wanted to talk to you."
Damien informed him of his intentions as he stepped to the side to reveal a surprise visitor who he brought with him into the office. It was Poisandra, who was out of her usual attire and wearing a business outfit with a set of glasses over her face who wanted to look professional to Cecil.
"After the war had settled, I've been getting hundreds of fan letters about how my singing helped everyone in repairing their homes. During that time, Damien came and showed me notes about your involvement in not talking about Omni Man's true identity. Along with making us the ones to handle him, and the other aliens you recruited from Sledge's ship."
Poisandra told him that her sudden rise in popularity had gotten the attention of Damien Darkblood who supplied her with all the information that GDA kept from everyone including the hero community. The director felt hesitant about what they were getting at, including how she went to her pocket and thought she was going to show him the notes that the demon had written. She instead pulled out a business card that she handed Cecil with the title saying 'Invincible Inc'.
"Eve and I started our own incorporation to help handle problems that the Guardians and GDA can't get to. Especially having Damien recruit some people who want the same thing that you want. Protecting this planet, because with what you've been seeing outside. The world doesn't need any more heroes to look after everyone. What it needs are monsters who'll fight for their home, and that's just what they're going get."
She instructed him that the corporation she and Eve worked on would devote itself to protecting numerous locations that they could assist in looking after. Including bringing in new monsters to help protect everyone from a crisis that not even the GDA could handle, and continuing to look at the card. Cecil saw the two disappear out of the room with the cold feeling leaving as well.
"Shit."
Cecil responded at what could be a blessing in disguise since he'd seen how Poisandra and the others were the only ones capable of handling Viltrumites. What also made him nervous was Damien Darkblood being a part of the corporation, who could tell Mark and the others about what he was hiding from everyone. However, what they didn't know was how Cecil secured the body of Conquest to get information about the Viltrum Empire. Whether or not it was the wrong thing to do, he needed all the advantages he could get to prevent another war from happening on Earth. He could only hope that Invincible and his team could do their part in looking after the public, especially with how they would be bringing in new monsters to help make Earth ready for the Viltrumites.
"And with that, this part of the story will be on hiatus until Season 4 comes out. I'm glad to wrap this up and introduce new characters to the story.
