Joe's pov
After I had gotten sufficient new evidence, I went to Rikers to see if I could take a crack at Kylie myself. I knew she would definitely try to charm me, hoping I still had feelings for her. But that ship had long sailed, especially with my being happily married going on a decade and four kids in. I knew I might run into my Aunt, but I was willing to make amends if she was. When I was close enough, I heard Kylie talk to Aunt Erin, my heart stopping at the realization her ring was once more operational, and that she had kidnapped my cousin. The first person I saw when I walked into the visitation room was my Aunt, her face pale and looking about to cry, not to my surprise. Then I heard that familiar sugary-pitched voice
"Joey!"
Rolling my eyes, I spat
"Don't call me that. Where is ADA Reagan's daughter?"
I tried to keep my relationship to my Aunt and Cousin away from Kylie, not wanting to give her any more leverage on any family members. She tried to reach for my hand, with me taking a step back to avoid her. She spoke
"I can tell you... for a price. A movie night like the old days. You, me, a good movie, your head on my lap as you fall asleep like you do with every late-night movie."
I shook my head
"Can't give you that, I'm not available in that way. But you can do the right thing for once, and put a stop to all of this."
She shrugged
"No."
Guess we were doing this the hard way... As she was escorted back to her cell, my Aunt spoke
"Guess you're here for an I told you so?"
I shook my head
"Not with Sami's life on the line. Let's find her. I assembled the rest of the Reagan PD, they're gonna meet us at the 5-4. Let's go, we'll talk later."
And with that, we were off, with the rest of the family hugging Aunt Erin, Peter also looking distressed, worried for his little sister. I took my Aunt into the box, aka the interrogation room, and spoke
"I'm so sorry for being rude earlier, I just knew that she could not be set free, for reasons such as there. But I should not and hopefully will not ever again, talk to you like that."
She smiled softly
"Thank you, and I'll accept your apology if you'll be willing to accept mine. I should have never spoken out of turn about your career path, or how you came to be a Detective. You made your patrol and your world a safer place all on your own, and I should not have thought that you would hold that in a higher importance than keeping the public safe, even more so your family. Our family. I'm sorry, I was under a lot of stress and more than stepped over the line, I tore through it."
I gave her a soft smile
"I can see why you were so stressed, I was questioning your job just about the same as you were doing to me. I should have just given you the information instead of going full rage on you. I'm sorry, you're forgiven, I love you, and Sami's gonna be ok."
She smiled as she hugged me
"You're forgiven, thank you, love you back, and I can't wait until she's back in my arms..."
I gave her a hug, then we rejoined the rest of the family. After checking their emails, my Aunt and my Uncle Jack spoke
"There's still no ransom demand..."
I was not liking this at all, it really was looking like Kylie's ring was getting started up again.
"Sean, can we trace where the video originated from? Or is the VPN pinging all over the world?"
Kylie usually deployed her beauty more than her brains, and I was hoping that was the case here. No such luck. Sean spoke
"It's pinging from all of the five boroughs, Indianapolis and Dublin, Ireland."
I groaned, but whipped around as something in the video of the guy with Sami caught my eye
"Isn't this the old abandoned cinema theater? Look at the logo on the walls. They could still be holed up there!"
Sean blew up the image and enhanced it, and lo and behold, the video was shot at the old theater. We mobilized half the task force over to there, half of it staying behind in case it was a red herring. I had gone to the theater with Peter and Uncle Danny, and we soon heard voices. Kylie, Sami and Randall. I deferred over to Uncle Danny
"How do we play this?"
He spoke
"You think Vans is gonna turn into a violent threat to Sami or anyone else if we go in, guns blazing?"
I sighed
"Can't risk it. Maybe I should try to distract her."
The rest of the team came in from behind while I entered from the front, much to Kylie's happiness. I am just glad I had a plan up my sleeve and that I had clued Laurie in on what we were doing, no sense in getting myself exiled to the dog house over an ex- girlfriend turned criminal. Once she saw me, she smiled
"Joey!"
I could puke fifty times for every time I heard her say that... Inwardly rolling my eyes, I spoke
"How about that movie? Hands to ourselves, and you have a deal."
Of course, I did not tell her my relatives would be conducting a sweep of this location in the meantime, rescuing my Cousin and arresting Kylie's muscle, and then, for a little flashback on this Friday night, I would be the one to slap the cuffs on that psycho. She smiled
"Deal, even though I miss cuddling during movies. Wanna pick?"
I shook my head
"No, you can find something interesting. I'm good with whatever."
She put on a thriller, and the movie itself wasn't so bad. I just had to move a lot as she kept scooting closer. Thankfully, the surround sound of the gunfire and bombs in the movie provided an auditory cloaking for my relatives, who were able to wrap everything up before the movie even ended. Shocked, Kylie got up
"You cheated!"
I replied
"No, I just watched a movie with you, as you requested. And now, I once again, am arresting you for kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment, aggravated assault by the bruises on her face, and intent to restart your trafficking ring."
She huffed in indignation as I cuffed her, then she was taken back to Rikers. After seeing that my family was ok, and that my Aunt and Uncle had taken Sami to the hospital where Uncle Will was treating her, I returned home to my wife and kids. Laurie hugged me and kissed me, jokingly pouting
"Can you watch a movie with me now?"
She was not jealous at all, and was ridiculously understanding of what I did, especially since nothing happened and I had given her the heads' up and gotten her permission. A sly grin founds its way onto my face as I carried her back inside the house
"Absolutely. Be advised, I might fall asleep."
Her melodious laugh and voice filled the room
"Joey, I know you're going to end up asleep, especially given you're gonna have your head on my lap and I'm going to have my hands sunken into your hair."
Relishing on enjoying moments like these with the right person, my person, my wife; I gave a chuckle of my own before plopping us both on the couch and turning the TV on
"Then I guess I better kiss you goodnight before we even start the movie."
And that's exactly what I did, quickly followed by turning on another thriller, her hands already in my hair as I laid down on her lap, her loving hands putting me to sleep in mere minutes.
