EXTRA: An Important Announcement from WindstarOsprey
Greetings, Tales fans (of Sonic), WindstarOsprey of the Nerd Herd here with some big announcements. First, I want to take a moment to thank everyone for all their comments and reviews, good and bad. It's because of you that we have the motivation to keep on writing these stories and, more importantly, know what it is we're doing right and wrong. Which brings us to my next announcement: the future of the ongoing Eggman's Dozen saga.
When I first pitched the idea to my colleagues in the Nerd Herd, they were both skeptical and interested in the idea. The Eggman's cybernetic mini-boss squad is considered by many – myself included - to be the most popular character group from the Archie comics, both the reboot's Egg Bosses and the old timeline's Grandmasters; the former especially. So when I signed on as a co-writer and story planner, I made it my mission to make sure that their debut was a big deal. Unfortunately, I ended up biting off more than I could chew.
While some readers enjoy the saga for its higher stakes, fun character dynamics, and finally featuring these beloved characters, it's earned a fair share of criticisms. Dark and bleak moments that don't quite fit the tone of the Sonic franchise. Overuse of original characters. Too many characters to keep track of. And, most of all, it's really, really long; to the point that readers asking when we're going to get back to writing storylines based on the games has become a regular occurrence. Part of this was due to my own inexperience as a writer and planner. I was eager to give the Egg Bosses their big, epic debut, but ended up getting caught up in the spectacle, which hurt the structure of the story. It doesn't help that I have way too many ideas for storylines popping up in my head all at once. As such, I want to take a moment to thank you for your patience and apologize for things getting off the rails. And more importantly, finally give you the answer you've been demanding:
The Eggman's Dozen Saga is ending.
After much discussion and planning, the rest of the Nerd Herd and I have decided to cut the saga short. There will be one more Egg Boss arc and a bit of set-up, but after that, we will be moving on to the grand finale. However, that doesn't mean the other arcs have been abandoned entirely, far from it. They will be written and released at a later date as part of our biggest announcement for Tales of Sonic yet…our first-ever spin-off series… Tales of Mobius!
While Tales of Sonic focuses on the Blue Blur and his friends, Tales of Mobius will focus more on side characters and other groups, as well as stories that don't immediately advance to the mainline plot, but still flesh out the world and setting. As a result, Bummer Vacation and Love, War, and Dragon Boats have been moved over to this series with the remaining Eggman's Dozen arcs, which will be released as part of the Lost Egg Boss Tales sub-series.
Once again, we at the Nerd Herd want to thank all of you for your continued patience and support. We know you're eager for us to adapt stories such as Unleashed, Colors, and Forces, we are too. All we ask is that you wait a little longer, we promise this ride will be over soon and it will be worth it. In the meantime, see you next time for the next Tales of Sonic and Mobius! Don't forget to R & R, and have a great day!
