Chapter 15 The Merry Days Go By

A few hours had passed at the Renshaw's home and by the evening dinner was finally ready. They soon all ate in the dining room a nice homecooked meal which Dean loved, as it was always refreshing to have such a meal since it wasn't something he normally had. Afterwards, they all hung out in the den room to watch some TV and then Ava and Dean left to get some alone time sitting in the living room.

"Boy, it's great to have some more alone time with you at least" Ava said as she cuddled up next to Dean on the couch with his arms around her.

"Yeah, I mean I like you folks and all they're really cool but I kind of miss not having you all to myself for a while" Dean replied to her.

"You know my parents really think you're cool too, I can tell my dad really likes you and he is usually weary at first with any man I mean, I guess it's a dad thing" Ava said.

"Yeah, we really hit it off in the den when you were in the kitchen with your mom. I was worried that he was going to give me a typical 'You're not good enough for my daughter' speech but it went better than I expected" Dean said.

"Yeah, what did you all talk about anyway?" asked Ava looking curious.

Dean paused for a bit remembering all the things they went over about Ava's feelings for him, and her dad even used the word love and asked if Dean felt that way about Ava. Dean was hesitant to answer that and in fact, he never really gave Jim an answer to that question just telling him that is something he needs to discuss with Ava. Jim for his part didn't push it but just reminded him he needed to discuss it with her real soon and really think about where they're relationship is heading. If it's heading somewhere, he reminded Dean that he should be on the same page with Ava on that issue or reconsider any future with her. Dean thought about all of this then turned to Ava again.

"You know we just talked about lot of stuff, just typical guy stuff that wouldn't interest you" he said which was partially true as they did talk about over things like sports, hobbies, cars music etc.

"Yeah, guy stuff, and that's all, I never came up in the conversation?" asked Ava looking skeptical.

"Well, he made have mentioned you a couple of times, but we talked about a lot of things seriously" Dean replied although Ava knew he was holding back some.

"Hey, but what about you, I'm sure you and your mom talked about some stuff in the kitchen all that time, was it about me by any chance?" Dean asked her.

Ava paused too this time, as she was bit hesitant to tell him what was said between her and her mother.

"We made have mentioned you a bit, mom likes you and all and she finds it interesting you are also a hunter and is quite impressed that you live in the Men of Letters Headquarters and that some of your relatives were Men of Letters, but we talked about other stuff too" she told him although she too was holding back and wondered if Dean could sense it.

Dean just smirked. "Oh, so she's impressed by me and all huh, told you that I have that kind of affect" he replied.

"Okay, Mr. Cocky slow down" Ava said teasingly giving him a playful tap on the shoulder, but then both of them paused and were silent for a while still thinking about their talk with each of the parents and simultaneously thought that this was the right moment to take the parents advice and talk about their relationship.

"You know, Dean I think that I really need to talk to you about something" Ava replied first.

"Yeah, me too, something we really need to discuss" Dean said.

"Okay who wants to go first?" Ava asked.

"You go first" Dean offered partly because he was still a bit nervous to discuss what he needed to. Ava pulled away a bit and Dean removed his arm around her shoulder and were now just facing each other. She paused for a few seconds but then spoke up.

"I just wanted to say, it means a lot to me having you here meeting my parents more than you know. Since we didn't get to spend Christmas together, I love that we are spending this time together and at my parents' home. It's the best gift ever better than any Christmas gift" she said and although she was sincere, she just coward out of telling Dean all of her feelings including saying the L word.

Dean kind of blushed looking quite touched by all that she said. "Yeah, me too, I glad I got to meet your family and all and spend this time with you, every time I spend with you is great for me" he said although he held back too talking about their relationship and where it's heading or their feelings for one another.

Ava also looked touched yet, both of them felt guilty about not bring up what they planned to bring up, Ava confessing her love for Dean and Dean talking about where their relationship is heading and whether Ava loves him and if he feels the same way. Instead, they leaned in and started kissing each other passionately then just cuddled in each other's arms. Hours later, late that night when everybody went to bed, Dean and Ava made love again in the bedroom and then curled up together before falling asleep. Once again, neither of them brought up their relationship or the L word at all although they both were thinking about it but just didn't have the nerve to mention in, possibly out of fear on what on how the other would react and didn't want to ruin a good thing they were having but they both knew in their hearts they would have to talk about it eventually.

The days that followed were great for the couple. Dean continued to get along well with Ava's parents. He would watch sports with her dad and even help him out with the chores like shoveling snow outside and anything else that was needed. He and Ava also got to go out to spend some alone time together and get out of the house. She took him to into town and they headed to her favorite tavern that she occasionally goes to whenever in town. The bartender was quite familiar with her and very friendly as it turned out the owner was a good friend of her father. Ava even introduced Dean to both the bartender and the owner who made him feel very welcomed. They had some beer, talked and Ava was even able to drag him off to the dance floor to dance to some music on the jukebox.

Afterwards, they took a stroll on the sideways passing the buildings in the middle of downtown, Dean having his arm around Ava. Later in the evening, they went to a nice restaurant for a dinner date and even changed their clothes dressing more nicely. After dinner, Dean not ready to retire to the house yet insisted they head back to that tavern as he loved that place. Another day, they headed to the market so Ava could buy some groceries for her parents as sometimes she would do the shopping for them when she was home, then they would head to a nice diner to get something to eat. A couple of times, Ava's parents joined them on their outings, one time heading to the tavern where Jim chatted with his old pal the owner and they all just get some drinks and food.

On his last day before he would leave, they all had a nice dinner at a restaurant together like a double date and it felt like a cozy family outing as Dean really fitted in among the Renshaws. Earlier that day, he also helped the family take down the Christmas tree and decorations and he really felt like he belonged. Later that night in bed, they both just cuddled together in silence after another lovemaking, both still thinking about their talk with Ava's parents about their feelings for one another and where their relationship should lead to. Despite wanting to express this to each other, once again neither had to nerve to say anything and just kept quiet but they both knew they must talk about it soon.

The next day on New Year's Eve, Dean was prepared to head back to the bunker as he tended to spend New Year's Eve and New Year's with Sam and the gang back at the bunker and Ava was sad to see him go, even the parents liked having him around kind of wished he stayed a bit longer. That morning after breakfast, Dean packed his things, and he went into the living room to say his goodbyes to the parents with Ava accompanying him.

"Well, it was sure nice having you here, please come and visit us again dear" said Sharon in a motherly tone.

"It was nice being here and you betcha I am" Dean replied.

"Yeah, don't be a stranger there, Dean, me and Sharon, good having you around" Jim replied.

"Thank you, sir, I mean Jim" Dean replied.

"You know we can see that your quite good for our Ava, and understand what she sees in you, you really make her happy and treat her well that's what really counts" Sharon said.

"That's nice to hear, Sharon" Dean said feeling a bit bashful with all the compliments he was getting.

"Yeah, and remember our little talk way back there, Dean, it's something to really think about" said Jim.

"I will, you got my word on that" Dean said.

"Well anyway, goodbye and Happy New Year, hope you spend it well with your family" said Sharon.

"Happy New Year to you all too" said Dean.

"Come here and give me hug there, dear" said Sharon who went up and gave Dean a motherly hug and he hugged her back.

Then Jim walked up and gave Dean a nice handshake and pat on the arm.

"Goodbye there, Dean and take care" he told him.

"You too Jim" said Dean.

"So, I guess this angel friend of yours is suppose to pop in and zap you back home, any minute now or how does that work?" Jim asked.

"Well, sort of, I just have to call out to him, and he will come" Dean said.

"Just like that, you call out to him, and he can here you wherever you are?" asked Sharon curiously.

"Yes, something like that" Dean told them.

"Wow, you know I'm still getting used to the idea of angels being on earth and our daughter's boyfriend is friends with one of them but then again, when I was a hunter, I encountered all kinds of creatures that nobody would believe had existed so I know anything is possible" replied Jim.

"Yes, I felt the same way before I met Castiel" Dean said then he turned to Ava and before he had a chance to say his goodbyes to her, she turned toward her parents.

"Mom, dad, do you all mind if I have a private moment with Dean before he leaves, there is something I need to discuss with him" she told them.

"Yeah, sure of course dear" replied Sharon then she turned to her husband.

"Come on Jim, lets go into the den and give them some privacy" she told him.

"Okay honey, just holler when you're through okay" Jim said.

The two of them both left the living room and Ava went into the hall and watched them do into the den and close the door, then she returned to the living room with Dean.

"What do you need tell me without your parents around?" Dean asked even though he had sense that he already knew what it was about.

Ava walked up close to Dean and placed her hands in his and glanced at him in a loving way showing that whatever she had to say it was very serious.

"You know, Dean I've wanted to discuss this with you for awhile now ever since you got here but I always lost the nerve, something very important and that involves us" she told him.

Dean's eyes lit up knowing what exactly what she was going to say but he still had to ask, "Us, what about us?".

"I mean our relationship and where do you think it should lead to. I mean Dean, we get together once a month and spend a week or more so together, then we just go our separate ways again, that was all fine and good in the beginning, but I can feel our relationship getting stronger and that includes our feelings to the point that we need something more definite" Ava said.

Dean's heart was racing a bit since he knew where this was going and a part of him is relieved that she brought it up first so he wouldn't but another part of him knew that he wouldn't have eventually brought it up too especially after his talk with Ava's dad the first day he arrived.

"You know that's funny is I wanted to discuss the same thing" he said a bit nervously.

"You did?" Ava asked.

"Yeah, I mean I had a nice talk with your dad when I first got here, and he helped me pretty much see that we needed to bring this up someday and soon" he told her.

This time Ava's eyes lit up as she briefly let go of his hands. "So that's what you two were discussing in the living room" she said.

"Yeah, pretty much but he told me that we needed to figure out where our relationship was heading and discuss it rather than just let it drag on for so long and he was right" Dean said.

"Well, I think the direction of our relationship and where it should take now should depend on our feelings for one another and if they've changed or have grown some" Ava told him.

"Our feelings, well the only thing I know about my feelings is that I always look forward to spending anytime with you no matter where we are and enjoyed meeting your parents simply because they are your family and I felt like I was a part of your family and I always hate it when we go our separate ways again and wish you we could be together longer and wind up missing you. And can't wait to call you just to talk or tell you about our day or the latest case and asking you about yours" Dean said to the bottom of his heart.

Ava then reached out for his hand and again holding them and looking in his eyes. "That's wonderful Dean, and I feel the same way, but I want to go on to say that my feelings for you are so strong and it took me awhile to finally admit to myself and now to you what they are even though I'm still quite nervous to express but I got to say it out loud" she told him.

Dean took another breath thinking to himself 'here it comes' as he knew now what she was going to say. "Just say it" he told her.

Ava now took a breath and squeezing Dean's hands. "Okay, Dean, I love you, in I'm in love with you, you are the first person that I've felt this way in a long time, I love you from your good points and bad and I hope you feel the same way, Dean" she said.

Dean just paused taken aback about hearing her say the L word. This was so new for him and a bit scary too as the last woman who ever told him that was Lisa when they were living together years ago. He never ever imaged that any woman would ever tell him that again and he was in still taking all of in it now that Ava just admitted to loving him. "Well, Dean, please say something, anything" Ava urged worried about his silence. Dean glared at her again.

"Wow, it's just hearing those words, it kind of shook me even though I kind of saw it coming" Dean replied.

"Well, what about you how do you feel about me, don't tell me after everything you don't feel the same way?" Ava pleaded needing to hear his response.

Dean pause again then he spoke up, "back at you darling" was all he could say.

Ava felt a bit relieved and overjoyed. "Well, I guess I take that as a yes" she said with some excitement in her voice.

"I guess you can" Dean told her smiling finally relieved to admit his feelings for her too.

Ava knew Dean had a hard time saying the L word so she wasn't going to push it but take what she could get from him. All that she cared about was that he loved her too and how wonderful it all ways.

She then sighed and spoke up again, "so where does this leave our relationship, I mean are where do we take it from here?" she asked him.

"Where do you want it to take it?" asked Dean.

"I know we need to think of what our future will be other than just getting together once and a while, look I'm not talking marriage right now or anything, but we need to have a plan" Ava said.

Dean started to squeeze her hands very lightly and looked her serious in the eyes.

"Look, Ava I don't expect everything to change right away, but I understand that we need to work out a plan. First, I need to talk things over with my brothers and Charlie because it certainly will affect them too since we all live under the same roof. But after I speak with them, we will make plans for what's next for us, I promise you that" he told her.

Ava just sighed. "And what will those plans be?" she asked him.

"Well, that depends are what we are both ready for, if we want our relationship to head to where we are together on a regular basis, I mean" Dean replied kind in a shy tone.

Ava's eyes lit up. "Are you saying that would involve us living together?" she asked excitedly.

"If the times come, that could be a possibility but again, I'm not saying it would be right away, but sometime soon we can bring that up if we are both ready" Dean said hoping Ava doesn't think he won't be ready in the near future.

Ava sighed again as he was in thought briefly and just focused on him again. "Okay, I'll take that as a yes, someday" she told him.

"Perfect" Dean replied.

"The only thing that matters now is we know how we feel about each other" Ava told him.

"Me too" Dean replied.

Soon the two lean in and started kissing one another. A real long kiss of two people who are in love or just discovered that they are in love and never want to be apart.
