Chapter 16 Girlfriends' Talk
After Dean and Ava stopped their kiss, Dean finally called out for Castiel to come and get him and within seconds he appeared in the same room with them just like that. Ava had gotten used to his appearing out of thin air and was no longer phased by it but just greeted him friendly and he greeted her back. Then Ava called her parents back into the room so they all can meet Castiel and see Dean off. The parents came back into the room and were surprised and in awe of Castiel whom Dean introduced to them. They greeted him and shook his hand still amazed that a real life angel not only exist on the planet, but one is in their living room and an old buddy of Dean's as they are still processing that angels are on the planet despite knowing about demons. Even Sparky came out too this time as if to see what all the fuss is about and just went up to Castiel looking up at him with curiosity. He didn't show any fear despite seeming to sense that Castiel wasn't an ordinary person but as Castiel glared at the dog right back looking into his eyes, the dog just stood there with a calm and friendly expression. Castiel then reached down to pet the dog who let him and continued to stand there and stare at up at him. Then Ava and her parents said their final goodbyes to Dean before Castiel grabs a hold of him and they both vanish out of sight and are back at the bunker.
Back home, they're greeted by Adam, Charlie and Sam who Castiel had brought back from Gwen's home just before he came and got Dean. They are all thrilled to see one another again under the same roof and even invite Castiel to stick around to celebrate the New Year. They all caught up on what the other did, Sam talked some about his time with Gwen at her home, and Dean shared some of the stuff he did at Ava's parents' place. Adam and Charlie talked about the days the spent watching movies playing video games and taking down the Christmas decorations and occasionally leaving the bunker and do something fun out of town since there wasn't much to do after the holidays in Lebanon. Castiel didn't have much to say about what he did other than just traveling around the world even helping a kid find her lost cat or bring food to a homeless woman and was sometimes disgusted with the cruelty the world to their fellow humankind around the time of Christmas. The others changed the topic not wanting to be depressed. They spend the whole day hanging out in the bunker just doing their usual thing though Adam played chess with Castiel hoping to beat him but alas Castiel couldn't be beaten.
The next day was New Year's Eve and again the whole gang just stayed in the bunker except when Dean left to get two pepperoni pizzas for them to have for dinner and some beer. Later, they would watch nice action films on DVD since they didn't feel like watching a cheesy feel good movie and there wasn't much else for them to do then when it was getting close to midnight they, had some popcorn as they watched the New Year's Eve party. Dean phoned up Ava and put her on speaker as he talked to her as she was watching the same thing he was with her parents. Sam also was talking to Gwen on speaker, and she too was watching the same thing with her grandmother. Then the countdown arrived, and they all counted too until it was officially New Year of 2016. They all rejoiced with each other, and Dean and Sam soon said goodbye to their girlfriends and their family and hung out with the others watching the New Year's special on TV for another hour before everybody retired to bed. The next day on New Year's wasn't anything special. The gang all hung out in the bunker again all day doing the usual, watching TV, sometimes a movie on a DVD, surfed the internet, played a game of cards or just whatever interested them.
By the evening, they had leftovers from the previous night and afterwards Castiel said his goodbyes as he was taking off again to continue his travels and they were kind of sad to see him go again but understood. The day after New Year's, one afternoon when Adam and Charlie were gaming together on the ps4, Dean decided to have a conversation with Sam another room.
"Sam, I just need to tell you something very important first before I talk it over with Adam and Charlie" Dean told him.
"What is it Dean?" Sam asked curiously. "It's about me and Ava" Dean said.
"What about you two, I mean from what you tell me you hit it off great with her folks" Sam said.
"Yeah, I know but something also happened while I was there, the day that I left just before Cas came and got me, Ava told me something very serious" Dean said.
"What did she say?" Sam asked just wanting Dean to spill already.
"She told me that she loved me, Sam" Dean told him as Sam's eyes lit up in surprise.
"She did, she said that?" Sam asked.
Dean just sighed and nodded his head.
"Yeah, and the thing is I told her the same thing when she pressed it" Dean said.
Sam's eyes lit up again in shock. "You what, I mean you really told Ava you loved her?" he asked not believing what he just heard.
"Well, I didn't exactly say word love but when she asked if I felt the same way I basically said yes" Dean told him.
Sam still was processing this all in. "Wow, I mean Dean, you who never gets all touchy feely, just admitted that you loved a woman" he replied.
"Yeah, I know, even her old man asked me what my feelings were for her when I first arrived, and I had been thinking about that the whole time I was there. And when Ava finally told me how she felt about me, it made me realized how much I feel about her. I mean Sam, I love her, I really do. I never felt this way about a woman, not even Lisa who I thought was the one, or Cassie. I mean she is really my match in a way that we fit perfectly together, it's partly because of both our hunting family backgrounds and that we can really have each other's backs. I mean next to you I trust her with my life" Dean said.
"Wow, bro, I'm really happy for you and all but still kind of funny picturing you being all mushy telling a woman you love her to the end of times" Sam said in a teasingly way.
"Oh, shut up, man I mean what about you and Gwen huh, I bet you get pretty mushy with her, I mean have you ever told her you loved her yet?" he asked him.
"Yeah, a while ago" Sam said.
"What, when?" Dean asked this time it was his turn to be shocked.
"I think back in September when I took her to our hometown in Lawrence for a visit for a week since she was so curiously about what my hometown was like and insisted. She told me she loved me the first time just before I brought her back home and I told her I loved her right back" Sam said.
Dean was surprised upon hearing this mostly because Sam never told him.
"What, back then really?" Dean asked still surprised he was kept in the dark.
"Yeah, and we've sometimes say it to each other when we say our goodbyes on the phone real late at night before going to bed" Sam said.
"What, and you never told me?" Dean exclaimed his eyes still lit.
"Hey, it was something personal I wanted to keep between us for awhile, besides I assumed you knew already how we felt about each other" Sam said.
"Unbelievable, I mean I told you about me and Ava" Dean replied.
"Yeah, and that was your choice, and I would have told you if you asked me but come on it's great you love Ava and I love Gwen" Sam replied.
"Yeah, it's great and also scary at the same time. I mean I can face monsters fearlessly but when it come to love with a woman, that can spook me in ways I never felt spooked" Dean replied.
"I understand Dean because sometimes I feel the same way" said Sam.
"Yeah, I mean face it, this kind of changes some things for both of us and it wasn't just the love part but what direction will our relationship take afterwards which is the other thing I need to tell you. Ava really wants to know where our relationship should go now that we expressed our feelings for one another as she thinks we can't just continue doing what we've already been doing, getting together once and while forever" Dean replied.
"Dean what did you tell her?" Sam asked.
"We haven't discussed what to do next, although me personally I could just let things remain the same for a long while at least until we wanted something more permanent but I know that's not what Ava wants and if she's not happy neither am I, and I don't want to just string her along, so I told her at least that I needed to discuss things over with you guys first before coming up with a plan about our future together" Dean said.
"You want me to tell you what you should do about this?" Sam asked.
"No, I just wanted to let you know that this means my relationship with Ava will move forward some and it will mean some changes, no more just occasional get togethers but something much more" Dean said.
Sam's eyes really lit up as he was thinking he knew where this was going. "Dean, does this mean you are going to ask Ava to move into the bunker with us?" he asked his brother.
Dean took a breath before speaking. "Sam, I don't plan to make changes immediately, but I have to say sometime in the near future it definitely can come to that since that would be the next step in moving our relationship forward and I just wanted to know how you would feel about it when it does" he replied.
Sam paused a bit and thought for a moment. "Gee, Dean I haven't really thought about it even though I should have known that it would likely lead to this, I mean I didn't expect you two to remain in this arrangement you have right now to go on forever. I mean relationships do have to move forward as times goes by" he said.
"So, what do you think about Ava possibly moving in with us?" Dean asked.
Sam sighed again. "Dean, I know she means a lot to you just like Gwen does to me and I'm glad that you finally found someone who could make you happy, Ava is perfect for you, and I do like her, she's even been quite useful to us on our cases in the past and whatever makes you happy. I'm not going to lie that it won't be a major change and we would all have to make adjustments, but I can honesty way I would be willing" he told him.
"Thanks bro, that means a lot, I'm glad I talked to you about this first" Dean said.
"Yeah, me too but you got to tell Adam and Charlie too" Sam said.
"Yeah, I plan to I just wanted to discuss it with you first alone, but I think they would be on board I mean they always get along with her whenever she comes in visits, they enjoy her cooking and Charlie loves having another chick around" Dean said. Sam just nodded. "Yeah, we still will have to get used to it you know, I mean for years it was just you and me with Castiel coming and going and now we got Adam and Charlie back and we've learned to get used to that and now we'll could be adding a new party to the club" he said.
"Well, maybe two new party member, I mean what about Gwen, is she still talking about moving down here?" Dean asked.
"Well, we haven't brought up at all anymore, we just look forward to seeing each other whenever we have to chance to and be together" Sam said.
"Come on, Sam, Gwen is not the type to just want to get together every once and while anymore than Ava is, in fact, I will say she's more of the mushy lovy type who wants the true love sort of white picket fence type of relationship someday" Dean said.
"Dean, we will never have the white picket fence life and Gwen knows that and accepts it" Sam said.
"Sammy, you know what I mean, she will want something more permanent with you too especially if she told you the L word, she even said she will move out here when she feels the time is right and I have no doubt she's still thinking about it, even planning it" Dean said.
Sam sighed a bit and nodded his head. "Yeah, I get that Dean, I just don't want rush things either by talking about something permanent and I like how it's going now but you're right, I guess I'm a bit hesitant and scared as it is all new to me too" he said.
"Hey, it's scary as hell to both of us, I mean never imagined having girlfriends and falling in love with them with our lifestyles and now we both do and we both have been afraid to let other people in our lives because we've lost plenty of people who were close to us in the past" Dean said.
Sam nodded again. "I know Dean and I can't deny that I still have the fear of letting someone else in only to lose them or maybe they might lose me" he replied. Dean just sighed and gave Sam a little pat on the shoulder expressing his understanding. "Yeah, I know I have that fear too, but what was it your girlfriend said, that we can't allow fear dictate our lives and keeping us from letting others in, that we have faith and all that touchy feely stuff" he told Sam.
"Yes, something like that" Sam said.
"Well, I'm glad I followed your advice when you told me to do that" Dean replied.
"Yeah, and I don't regret allowing Gwen in my life, but I still have the fear way back into my head and there are times that I wonder but it's worth it" Sam told him.
Dean just grinned. "Yeah, I'll say we do have two fine chicks, although though mine's hotter" he teased.
"Hey, mine is hot enough" Sam fired back in a mock annoyed tone.
"Relax, we both have hot women and lets call it even" Dean said.
"Okay, okay," said Sam.
"Anyway, the important thing there is always a risk not just with Ava and Gwen but even with each other or with Adam and Charlie, there's a chance something that something could happen to anyone of them or us, but we don't shut them or each other out so the same can apply to our chicks, we don't need to treat them any differently" Dean said.
"Yeah, I feel the same way now" Sam said.
"Plus the fact your girlfriend and her grandma are psychics who can see the future sometimes and that could be an advantage" Dean replied with a smirk.
"Yeah, but you know, Gwen told me that their powers are unpredictable, and they may not always see every tragic circumstance or see it too late" Sam told him.
"Well, it's still a heads up for us" Dean replied again with a smirk in a sarcastic tone then he looked serious again. "Anyway, Sam I do think that you should discuss what the future in your relationship lies now with Gwen and sometime soon just like I will with Ava" Dean finished.
Sam nodded a bit again and sighed. "Yeah, I know and I will bring it up to her or maybe she will bring it up to me first" he said.
"Hey, don't keep her dangling since you just admitted to me that you both said you loved one another, I think she's perfect for you too, and if she's still thinking about moving down here in Lebanon sometime in the future to be closer to you, you definitely need to discuss it" replied Dean.
"Yeah, I get it Dean and I promise I will someday and soon but you know even if Gwen moves down here, there may come a time in the future that she will want to also make our relationship more permanent and eventually move into the bunker with us too" Sam said.
"Hey, we will cross that bridge when it comes, besides this place has enough room for army it could never get too crowded and everyone here likes Gwen and her grandma Madame Bess, she's a cool old lady" Dean said.
Sam sighed again. "Wow, do you here us, we are talking about our future with our girlfriends and the possibility of them moving in with us someday, some things really have change" Sam said.
"Change isn't always bad thing Sam, nothing can remain the same forever, and remember the old saying. The more things change the more they stay the same, and I know the one thing that will stay the same is us, we will always be brothers and partners hunting monsters and all the evil things in the world" Dean said.
"That's one thing I'm glad will never change" Sam replied as they both felt the brotherly bond.
"Okay, okay enough of this mushy stuff, lets find our little brother and our non-sister, we need to talk this thing over with them too" Dean said.
"Those two are still probably still at it with their video game trying to beat each other" Sam said.
"Yeah, our two little geeks, but hey you're a geek too, so I guess I'm the odd one out in this bunch" Dean said sarcastically.
"Oh shut up" replied Sam smirking as the two of them left the room.
