This sequel takes place sometime after my first fanfic. There will be more returning characters from the show and my first fanfic along with more new ones in this story.
Chapter 17 A New Threat, A New Mission
A week passed since New Year's Day and morning Sam got an urgent call from Gwen just before they were about to prepare for breakfast.
"Sam, I know this is early, but I really have to tell you something and this is really important" she said in an anxious tone.
"What is it, Gwen!" Sam cried out as he heard fear in her tone and knew something was wrong.
"Sam, I had another one of my recurring nightmares and last night was the second time I dreamt the same thing and I know when that happens, I will likely dream it the third time and after that it means it will happen in the future and it involves Dean" she cried anxiously.
"What about Dean?" Sam cried out stirring curiosity from Dean, Adam and Charlie who were ready to sit down and eat.
"These dreams were quite confusing but in it, I saw these spirits I think, you all of them reapers as I recall and then I saw people dying but something seemed wrong and chaotic and at the end of each dream I see Dean wearing a ring and he was no longer himself. I mean he became something powerful with this ring" Gwen explained.
Sam was still processing all of this in and was quite puzzled by what Gwen was saying.
"You know Sam, I think it would be better if me and grandmom told you guys all of this in person" Gwen said.
"Do you think you can getter over here sometime today?" Sam asked her.
"Actually, I was hoping you would have your angel friend Castiel take us to your place so we both can tell you more about these dreams and images" Gwen said.
"Yeah, sure I can call Castiel and ask him to fetch you two, and he would be wiling if it involves any of us" Sam replied.
"Perfect, call him right now please, we really need to talk" Gwen replied.
After saying their goodbyes and hanging, the others had gotten up and went over to Sam all looking concerned.
"Hey, Sam what was that all about that Gwen said that has to do with me?" Dean asked confused.
Sam turned to all of them and took a deep breath before he explained to them what was going on.
"Gwen called to tell me she had the same dream twice that involves you Dean and she says when she has the same dream twice it usually means she will have them again and they come true in the future" Sam explained.
"Yeah, I know all that but what is the dream about?" cried out Dean.
"The dream doesn't make much sense, she said she saw reapers, spirits and you wearing some ring that must be important somehow and she sounded quite shaken by it" said Sam.
"A dream about Dean with some ring and reapers and ghosts, that does sound strange, what could that mean?" asked Charlie.
"I don't know, and I don't think Gwen knows either" said Sam.
"Do you really think these dreams will come true?" asked Adam.
"I know Gwen dreamt about us and the Darkness before it happened as well as Rowena using the Book of Damned to gain a following and rule the world, so yes, if she dreamt this more than once means that something is about to happen involving Dean and a ring and reapers" Sam told him.
Then Dean eyes suddenly lit up. "Hey, you don't think this dream involves death and his ring?" he asked.
"You mean the ring that belongs to one of the four horsemen, Death?" asked Charlie as both Dean and Sam had filled her in on the whole story as well as Adam.
"It could be, but we need to know more and Gwen and Madame Bess once to come down here to explain to us more in person" Sam told them.
"That's great, but you mentioned Castiel and fetching them" Charlie mentioned.
"Yeah, Gwen asked if I could call him to bring them back to the bunker, so they don't have to drive down here" Sam said.
"That's even better, Cas is getting to be our own personal taxi, though I don't think he will like that" Dean said.
Soon Dean and Sam called out to Castiel looking up at the ceiling telling him that it was an emergency and to please get there right away. Within seconds Castiel appeared standing next to them but this time nobody was phased at all as Adam and Charlie both gotten used to it.
"Hello guys, what's the matter?" Castiel asked curiously.
"Cas, we need your help man" Dean said.
"Yeah, I got a call from Gwen telling me about a dream that involves Dean, death, reapers and ring Dean was wearing and she seemed quite upset about it, and when Gwen has these same dreams more than once they usually come true so, she and Madame Bess wants to come down here so she can explain more in person and we want you to fetch them and bring them here" Sam explained.
"Yeah, Cas we think these dreams could be quite serious and involves me and that something big is going to happen" Dean told him.
"Okay guys if any of what you say is true, I'm curious myself to learn what it means" Castiel said.
"Thanks Cas" Dean replied.
"Anyway, here goes nothing as the expression goes" Castiel replied then within seconds he vanished and few seconds later he reappeared in the same spot with now Gwen and Madame Bess standing on each side with their hands on each shoulder of his coat.
"Wow, got say Cas, you don't waste anytime" Dean replied looking impressed.
Both Gwen and Madame Bess let go of Castiel and Gwen spoke up first.
"Oh, Sam and guys we really need to talk to you more about these dreams" Gwen said.
"Yes, I'm afraid these images we saw is something major that could affect not just Dean but all of you" replied Madame Bess.
"You mean you had the same dream too?" asked Dean.
Madame Bess nodded her head. "Yes, my dear, both me and Gwen had these same dreams twice as and we compared notes and our dream or visons of the future were quite identical and we need to give you all a heads up which is the first step and the second one is for me to talk to the spirits again and find out more about what they mean" she finished.
"Well, can you first run by me and all of us again on what you saw in these dreams?" Sam asked.
Gwen just sighed as she faced Sam and then turned to everybody.
"Okay, well I remember there were images of people dying all over and I saw these beings that I believe are these reapers you told me about and then souls being taken and then the dreams both end with Dean with some ring on his finger" she explained.
"Yes, and there was something chaotic about it all, seeing all that death as if it wasn't natural and you with Dean wearing a ring which I sensed had something to do with it all" Madame Bess finished.
"Can you describe this ring in anyway?" Dean asked.
Gwen sighed again. "Well, from what I remember, the ring was a silver color and in the center it had a white colored square" she told them.
"Yes, that is precisely how I remembered it too" Madame Bess added.
"Okay, wait here" Dean said and then he just stepped out of the room.
About less than ten minutes later he returned holding a ring in his hand and he showed it to both Madame Bess and Gwen.
"Okay, is this the ring that you was in your dreams that I was wearing?" Dean asked.
Everybody gave a close look at the ring as Dean was holding it up.
"Yes, that's it, that's the ring I saw you wearing in my dream" Gwen said anxiously.
"Yes, that's what I saw too" Madame Bess added.
"Oh snap" cried out Dean.
"What kind of ring is it exactly?" asked Gwen.
"This ring is one of the four rings that belonged to the four horsemen. This one I'm holding was Death's ring" Dean answered and then he holds his hand down.
"Oh my gosh, one the horsemen and Death you say?" cried out Madame Bess.
"What could this mean Dean?" Sam asked.
"I'm not sure, but I fear it can't be good" Dean said.
"Then that settles it, we have to talk to the spirits and find out more, this is just too huge for me not to" said Madame Bess.
"Do you want me to take you back to your place, all of us can go if that's the case" said Castiel.
"Frankly, I prefer I do it here" said Madame Bess.
"Sure, if that's what you like" said Sam.
"We are just going to need candles" Madame Bess added.
"Yeah, whatever you say" Dean said.
"Oh my, we're really going to do some kind of séance here?" asked Charlie who was bit nervous and yet excited at the same time.
"My grandmom has done this many times and it always helps" Gwen said.
"Yeah, trust us on this one Charlie, we've seen her do it she's good" Dean said.
"I admit I kind of like to see it, I was thought it was cool on television" Adam replied.
"Just as long as it helps us figure out what's this is all about" Dean said.
Several minutes later, they were now in the main room at the map table and having placed some candles around it and lit them all turning out the lights. They all gathered around the table with Madame Bess at the center and soon she was chanting as the prepared to speak to the spirits. Within a minute, the fire on the candles swayed a bit, and Madame Bess was in her trance which lasted for a couple minutes. After it was all over, she was just looking around out of her trance like she woke from a dream.
"So, what did you see, you find out anything?" Dean asked eagerly.
Madame Bess turned to face him. "I saw people dying, being reaped by those things you call reapers in a chaotic fashion. In fact, everything seemed out of order and chaotic as many were reaped before their time, I mean when it wasn't their time to go. I saw destruction, like something was out of balance. I saw Death I mean the entity that is Death and then you Dean killing him with a scythe, I saw every one of us appearing in some kind of peril including Ava. Next thing I know, you are wearing that ring of Death, and everything was better, no more chaos, everything was in order, then I heard the voices say repeated say 'Death', than they said, 'He's chosen, he's chosen, over and over again, and then I saw many reapers about and then the voices said, 'they have found him' repeatedly, and then 'they are watching' over and over again and then it was finally over" she told them.
The others just stood in silence looking confused or in disbelief.
"What does all that mean?" asked Adam who was the first to break the ice.
"I think I know what it exactly means and what I was afraid of, that's finally come back to bite me like a part of me feared it would, but I was always hopeful" Dean said looking nervous.
"You mean you're thinking same thing I'm thinking, about Death?" asked Sam who was sharing the same fears as Dean.
"Exactly" Dean fired back.
"Will somebody please explain this all to me, I would like to know what the hell is all about" Adam cried out.
"Me too" Charlie added.
Dean swallowed and turned to everybody and spoke up. "You all recall, way back when I still had the Mark and after what happened to Charlie, I left and then summoned Death to send me somewhere far away so I wouldn't be a threat to anybody anymore and he was only willing to do it if I killed Sam" he replied.
"Yeah, I remember Sam telling me about all that and how terrible it was" Gwen said.
"Yeah, you told us about that to, it still kind of irks me" replied Adam.
"It irked me to, I kind of felt bad for all you were going through during that time I was gone" Charlie added.
"Hey, Dean I remember, and you didn't go through with it" Sam told him.
"Yeah, I know, even when Death was forcing me to make that choice and I was almost willing to do it, I just couldn't, not even for that, so I took that scythe and offed Death instead cause, I knew if I didn't, he would have killed Sam himself" Dean said.
"Hey, it's okay Dean, I understood, and I would have done the same thing in your shoes" Sam replied.
"Wow, even though you told us about that, I still can't believe to this day you actually killed Death, I mean the Death" Adam replied.
"That was a shock for me too" Charlie replied.
"So, you believe that it's coming back to haunt you?" asked Castiel who was quiet this whole time.
Dean nodded his head. "Yeah, somehow this is coming back to bite me in the ass, and it has to do with the reapers and this ring" he said showing the ring he still had in his hand.
"Yes, I believe from what I saw and heard is that natural death is out of order and people were not meant to die are dying and these beings you called reapers have been searching for you and have found you and are now watching and waiting as they have chosen you to take Death's place and that's where the ring comes in" Madame Bess.
"You mean that want you to be the new death?" asked Adam shocked by what is hearing.
Madame Bess nodded. "Yes, that's exactly what I think is happening and explains seeing Dean wearing the ring as they had succeeded" she told them.
"Wow, this is so freaking heavy" replied Charlie also shocked by what she's heard.
"You're telling me, this is so big you guys, I mean woah, Death!" cried out Adam who was still taken all this in.
"Dean, I don't know what we're going to do but we can't sit by and let this happen, I'm mean if these reapers know where you are and have chosen you and from Madame Bess vision's your wearing Death's ring that means in the future they will get you and force you to wear that and be the new Death, we got to stop this and soon" cried out Sam now scared for his brother.
"I second that, they will take you over my dead body" Castiel replied.
"Hey, I know you guys I don't want this to happen either, me the new Death, I mean I remember when I briefly tried out that for a day and the job wasn't for me" Dean replied trying to be a bit sarcastic.
"Whatever do you mean?" asked Gwen.
"Oh, just that one time some years back, Death had taking a brief vacation and had me as a fill-in for a day where I had to wear his ring and reap people who were going to die and all. Didn't like it much then but doing it for forever, no that's not for me, they can find someone else for job thank you" Dean said again being a bit sarcastic although it was a defense mechanism covering up the fact that he was freaking out about all of this.
"I will personally smite all of them if I have to, they not going force this burden on you if I can help it" replied Castiel in a stern tone.
"I appreciate that Cas, but there is no telling how many of them are in on this plan, I mean they could be many, you smite this group they may be more who will come and might retaliate as well and I don't want any of you guys getting hurt because of me" Dean said.
"I'm afraid, you're right there, Dean, like I said before, in my visions I saw all of us in peril as well all the people that are close to you Dean and that includes Ava. Trying to start a war with them at this moment at least could just make things worse, we need to come up with a careful plan" said Madame Bess.
"I never thought of that, that any of you guys could be in danger too over this. It's nice you want to help ma'am, but I don't want any of you more involved than you have to be, this is my mess to clean" Dean replied.
"But it does affect us all of we can be in danger too, we don't know how dangerous these beings are and they might target all of those close to you just to get to you and make you do their bidding. I even sensed that in my visions, that we are all in danger of this" she told him.
Dean just shook his head. "Once again, your lives are on the line because of me and my mess" he said looking guilty.
"Hey, don't you blame yourself, there is no way you could have known this was going to happen" Madame Bess reassured him in a motherly tone.
"Yes Dean, she is right, you had no way of knowing, none of us did until Gwen and Madame Bess saw it in their visions. All that matters now is that we have to find a way to stop it before it happens" Sam added.
Dean was still feeling guilty about all of this and how it would affect everybody he cares about.
"Well, I really am grateful that you gave us a heads up, that's good thing of my brother dating one half of a grandmother/granddaughter psychic duo" Dean said glancing at both Gwen and Madame Bess" trying to make light of this all but was still feeling bad and scared about all of this.
"We are always grateful we can help out anytime" said Madame Bess.
"Same here" Gwen added.
"Hey, don't worry Dean, we will beat this like we've beaten odds before right" replied Charlie trying to cheer him up.
"Yeah, there is no way we're going to let this happen to you" Adam said.
"Hey, you guys done enough, but me and Sam and Cas here can do the rest, I want you all just safe as possible" Dean urged.
"Yeah, I gotta agree with Dean here, all of you, we will handle this but thanks for alerting us Gwen" Sam said.
"Anytime but Sam, what will you guys do, how are you going to prevent this?" she asked him.
"We don't know yet, but we have to think of something, we just need time to figure all of this out" Sam explained.
"I will do anything to help you guys with this, I'll smite them all of that's what it takes, but like you said we don't know how many are there in this plot and the remainders might retaliate even more, but we'll stop them we won't let them doom Dean to be the new Death no matter what" said Castiel.
Then Dean's eyes lit up as if he was remembering something.
"Oh Ava, I got to tell Ava about this since you said that you saw her in your visions too and it and all of you could be in danger over this. I have to give her the heads up too" he cried out.
Just then his phone rang, and Dean pulled out his iphone from his pants pocket and he could see that it was Ava calling him. "Well speak of the devil" he said jokingly.
Just then answered his phone and step away a little from the others to get some privacy.
"Hey, Ava look I'm glad you called I got to tell you something" Dean said.
"Dean, I'm sorry, I'm really sorry about this" Ava said in a scared tone that sounded like she was in distress.
Dean heart started to race as he knew that something was wrong and just had an instinct that he knew what it was.
"Ava, what's wrong are you okay?" Dean asked her in a worried tone.
Suddenly he heard a voice that wasn't Ava's at all.
"Hello Dean, I have to say it long took a while, but we are so glad we finally caught up with you" said a man's voice.
Dean's instincts were right and his heart was racing even more.
"Who the hell is this and what happened to Ava?" he asked even though he already feared who it was and then the others all surrounded him as Dean put his phone on speaker so they all could hear.
"Somebody who has been searching for you for a very long time and we finally found you, we have been watching you for a while now and those close you and know exactly where you are" the voice said.
"Hey, if you have hurt her I swear…" Dean replied angrily but was cut off by the man.
"Relax there, we're not going to hurt your little cutiepie here, she's just leverage and she will remain fine as long as you do what we say" said the man.
"What do you want from me" Dean cried out still pissed.
"We want plenty from you Dean, you see you murdered our boss Death and that created a lot of problems for us and the whole planet ever since. Everything has been out of order, many of us defected, others just no longer cared about what our duties are plus many humans departed before their time or others didn't when it was there time causing lots of suffering and it was all your fault, you see, you have ruined natural order among life and death, things won't be restored properly unless we find a new boss and we select you" the voice said.
"Hey look, I'm sorry about all of that but Ava has nothing to do with this please let her you can have me" Dean replied.
"Like I said before, she's leverage we need reassurance that you will cooperate with us" said the voice.
"I'll do whatever the hell you want if you just let her go" Dean told them.
"Good, then meet us at an old abandoned house in Omaha, Nebraska, we will give you the location and directions where to find it, of course you can bring your little brother, your other half but that's it, you can leave your angel buddy home. Besides, we placed a warding spell on the place so it will be pointless anyway, but we don't want to see anybody but you two showing up, and we will have our little spies watching just as they've been watching all you guys and your loved ones for a while now. Of course, bring Death's ring, and we know you have all the four horsemen's rings. There better not be any tricks, no bringing any backup as like I said before we will know about it as our spies are everywhere, if we find out that you defied our instructions in anyway, well you will never see your cutiepie here ever again, is that clear" the voice said in a stern tone.
"Okay, whatever you say" Dean said.
That was all he could say as knew now that whatever plan they were going to come up with is now off since they got Ava. He has no choice now to go along with whatever they want or else they could kill her and he won't let that happen not if his life depended on it. If that means he gives in to their demands, then so be it. He'll be whatever they want if it saves Ava, he's not risking the life of the woman he has come to love and it's taken him awhile to admit that Ava is the woman he loves. The others are hurdled over as the voice continued on with his instructions and Dean listened carefully knowing Ava's life depended on it.
