This sequel takes place sometime after my first fanfic. There will be more returning characters from the show and my first fanfic along with more new ones in this story.
Chapter 18 Must Follow Through
Dean listened carefully to every instruction the voice gave him and Sam even got a pen and paper and wrote down the location and directions. Once again Dean was warned to be there by midnight just him and Sam, no one else and no weapons if he ever wanted to see Ava again. Dean asked to them to let him talk to her, but they refused just insisting he get there on time or else. When the conversation was over and they hung up, Dean couldn't help but express his fears and rage over what happened.
"Man, I can't believe this, those dicks have Ava, I swear if they harm her, I will hunt everyone of them down and kill them I don't care how many or how long I will kill over last one!" he cried out in fury.
"Calm down Dean, we will get Ava back I promise" Sam tried to reassure him.
"Yes, we will as long as I do what they want" Dean pointed out.
"Dean there is no way you can just arrive there with the ring and no protection, once you get there, they will force you to put on that ring be new death, I said before, I won't let them burden you with that" Castiel said in a protective tone.
"Cas, I don't think I have any choice in the matter right now. They have Ava and all that matters now is I get her back safely and you heard them, I have to be there by tonight just me and Sam and nobody else, no weapons and all or else Ava will be toast" Dean told him still scared out of his wits for Ava.
"I understand Dean, but I still don't feel good letting you guys go to that place unprotected. I could least arrive and make sure I'm unseen to make sure you're okay" Castiel said.
"Cas is right Dean, we can't go there unprotected we don't know what kind of trap we could be entering" Sam told him.
Dean just shook his head.
"It will do no good Cas, they said they had put a warding spell on the place they are holding Ava so you couldn't enter, they have their spies everywhere, who knows how many, if they see a trace of you, it could cost Ava her life and I'm not willing to risk her safety no matter what guys. Hey, I'll go alone if I have to but have no choice to do it on their terms" he explained.
"But Dean, it's like Cas says, once you get there, they will force you to put on the ring and take Death's place" Sam said in worried tone himself.
"I know but right now all that matters is getting Ava back safe, even if it means being the new Death, I mean took his place before briefly remember" Dean said.
"You what?" asked Gwen surprised and Madame Bess looked confused herself.
"Oh yeah, I some years back I briefly filled in for Death when he was taking a brief vacation, wore the ring and all, got to reap some folks, it's story for another time right now I have to focus on saving Ava" Dean told them.
"Filling in for Death himself, what will you guys tell us next, or never mind I'm sure it will be something even more shocking" replied Madame Bess who no longer seemed too phased by their wild stories.
"Anyway, I'll be willing to be their new Death for a while if it gets Ava back safe and sound at least until we come up with a plan to get myself out of it" Dean said.
"Dean, I'm still scared out all of this" Sam replied.
"Yeah, so are we, we don't want you to become this new Death or whatever and lose you" Charlie replied.
"Yeah, same here bro, these freaks are really going to force you to be some kind of reaper again, I mean I remember when you told me about the last time you had wear that ring for a short time but what if they make you wear it forever" Adam replied.
"Hey, it wasn't so bad, I mean I get to be invisible, appear and reappear at any place, have some the same powers as Cas here, hey we can be quite the duo, with all the tricks we could do" Dean replied in a sarcastic tone as he gave Castiel a nudge on the shoulder although he was trying to hide his fears and worries from them but nobody else was hiding theirs.
"This is serious Dean" Sam reminded him being a bit annoyed buy his sarcastic wit right now although he knew deep down Dean was scared as they were.
"I know it's serious Sam, but there isn't much I can do for now but do what they want and like I said before, it doesn't have to be forever just until we can find a way to beat them" Dean replied.
"Dean, I'm still not on board with this" Sam replied.
"Neither am I, how do you know these reapers will keep their promise and let Ava go" Castiel added.
"I do believe they both have a point dear, this situation is quite big, bigger than any of us. These beings may not be trusted, I mean they could hold Ava indefinitely to make sure you hold your end of the bargain. I do wish we had more time to come up with a plan rather you rush in and sacrifice your freedom" Madame Bess added.
"I'm afraid I don't have much time and have no choice but to do what they want no matter the costs, they're giving me until midnight to meet them at this place with the ring" Dean said looking quite anxious and scared as he faced everybody.
"I'm sorry guys but this is the only way, I can't risk losing Ava, I mean they might kill her or something if I don't do what the ask. Like I said before, hopefully after I become their death, they will let her go and we can think of a plan for me to get out of it and defeat them, I hope but right now, I got to do what they say that's it, there is no turning back from this" Dean said real sternly as meant what he said and made it clear he's not changing his mind on this.
"Okay, Dean we get it, we want to get Ava back too, and we will do anything to help her" Sam said.
"That's right, I mean, Ava's our friend both me and grandmom care about her too, don't want anything to happen to her, so we will support any decision you make" said Gwen.
"Gwen is right, we all care about Ava and I hope you both come out of this safe but we can't help but worry of losing you to dear" Madame Bess replied in her motherly tone.
"That's right, Dean we are scared we will lose you too once they force you become this death, like Castiel said, they could hold Ava over your head forever to force you to be the new Death" Sam replied as both Adam and Charlie nodded in agreement.
Dean just looked around everybody feeling touched by all their concern as he truly felt he wasn't alone on this.
"I know you guys, I'm scared too but I don't have a choice. Don't worry, I promise we can get out of this, at least I hope we can. Just got to hope these reapers are true to their word and let Ava go, I know I won't just be able to take the ring off just like that once they do, since they will likely hold all of you over my head, everybody I care about if that what it takes, so we will need to come up with plan no matter how long to beat these dicks but first thing is first and getting Ava back" Dean said.
Everybody just nodded their heads and glared at Dean with sad looks knowing that he was right, there wasn't much they could do now but for Dean to give in to their demands and the truth be told, they would all have done the same thing in Dean's situation.
"You know Dean, I will do whatever it takes to get you out of this, trade places with you if that what it takes, I mean you could tell those reapers I would be willing" Castiel told him in a protective tone.
"That's nice and all Cas, but I think they only want me, the one that ganked their boss, I don't think they would take you, and like I said before, they have a warding spell on that place anyway. Besides, I wouldn't let you make that sacrifice, this is my mess to clean up" said Dean.
"I still don't like any of this man" Adam replied and the others were thinking the same thing.
"I know, but there is nothing else we can do, this is Ava's life were talking about" Dean replied.
"So, when do you want to do this?" Sam asked.
"Right now, I don't want to wait a moment later, not as long as they have Ava" Dean said.
"Still think it isn't wise to go unarmed" Charlie said.
"Hey, they made it clear no weapons or else, I got no choice to play by their rules Charlie" Dean told her.
"This is such a terrifying moment, these beings have Ava and they're forcing you to be their new Death, and no telling what happens if you become that, I mean what will become of you, how will you manage" Madame Bess replied.
"I guess I will deal with that when the times comes" Dean said hiding the fact that the thought frightened him.
"Oh Dean, no matter what happens just be careful and we will be praying for you" Madame Bess.
"Same here" Gwen agreed.
"Yeah, we are all scared for you and Ava, this is too much" replied Charlie as Adam nodded his head an agreement.
"Yeah, this is scary for me too and I appreciate all of your concerns, but I got to do this" said Dean. "We understand, just wish there was another way" said Sam.
"So do I, Sam" Dean said with a sad look on his face as he was thinking of what will happen once he gets there with the ring and all knowing they will force him to put on the ring. He suspects they got some backup plan since they could have just made him put on the ring from where he is right there and now instead of needing him to drive all the way down to where they are, he knew there was something else about to happen.
He could put on the ring right now and have the ability to appear where they are, save Ava and bring her back here safe and protected as the bunker was the only place they couldn't get to them, then take it off once he got free. However, he knew that they were also watching other people they care about like Jody and the girls, and possibly Garth, maybe Ava's parents and wasn't going to risk their lives either.
"Hey, Dean you know my offer still stands, you could tell them that I'm willing to be to take your place and put on the ring myself once you get down there" Castiel replied.
Dean smiled touched by his offer. "Like I said before, this is my mess to clean up and I don't really think they would accept, they are insistent I be the one to take the old man's place" he told him.
About an hour had passed, Dean and Sam were finally ready to go without any weapons but just the ring in a small ring box in Dean's pocket. Both of them were pretty scared since they had nothing protect them from the reapers and neither knew what they could be doing to Ava or if they will keep their promise and let her go after Dean does what they want and they both knew that they were planning something once they got there but they had to take all the risks to get her back safe. Dean and Sam surrounded everybody preparing to say goodbye as if they were going away forever.
"Oh Dean, dear I pray you get Ava back safe and sound and that there is a way out of this, no matter what happens just keep the faith" said Madame Bess than she gave him a nice motherly hug.
"I will ma'am" Dean said as he hugged her back and then hugged the others too Castiel being the last.
"You know, we will get you of this, stop and nothing to defeat these dicks, if I have to go crawling and begging to Crowley for help if that's what it takes I will, we won't let them win" he told Dean in a serious tone.
"Thanks Cas, I that means a lot" Dean replied back and shook his hand in a brotherly way.
Sam and Gwen kissed each other like parting lovers not caring who sees them. "I hope you bring her back safe, and you stay safe yourself too" she told him after they finished their goodbye kiss.
"I will Gwen" Sam told her and then they gave each other a hug.
After saying goodbye to everybody, Dean and Sam took off in the Impala and drove out into the road as everybody else feared what was about to come and just prayed that the brothers will overcome this obstacle just like they have in the past. Dean and Sam were both kind of silent for a while, also thinking the same thing although they still couldn't help worrying about the outcome.
"Just hope, you know what you're doing Dean" Sam finally broke the ice.
Dean turned to him and said, "Hey, it's like Madame Bess, says, keep the faith, no matter what Ava will be safe hopefully which is all that matters now".
They continued driving on into the night in silence headed for their destination prepared for whatever is to come.
