Chapter 20 A New Deal
The Reapers all continued to face Sam and all eyes were on him as they were curious about his last statement of a plan as he had interrupted them forcing Dean to put on the Death ring and preparing to perform some kind of spell to bind the ring to his finger forever some growing quite impatient. Sam had just taken a breath and made his speech.
"Well, you said it yourselves that you all would prefer not to have a mere mortal becoming the new big boss and would rather have someone a lot more powerful and only settled for Dean because he took out your last boss right?" he responded.
"What's your point, we're wasting precious time" replied the bearded reaper in an impatient tone.
"I just mean what if rather than have Dean, there is someone much more powerful, a non-mortal that would be willing to be the new Death" Sam replied.
The reapers just glared at each other in confusion, then turned back to Sam. "What is this powerful being you speak of?" one of the reapers asked.
"I mean a someone more like you, a reaper or an angel something much superior than a mere human like us that would be willing to come forward and take Death's place instead of Dean" Sam said.
"This is nonsense, no such being has come forward, and we already selected Dean, we were willing to select any one of us but we thought it would be more poetic justice for the one responsible for our boss's demise to take his place and we're willing to settle on a human even if that's not our first choice" said one of the female reapers.
"Enough of this, lets do what we came here for, your brother will put on the ring and we will perform the spell lets begin already" replied the bearded reaper.
"Wait, please!" cried out Sam and then all glanced at him again. "I'm willing to find another being that would be willing to take Dean's place instead so you don't have to settle on a mere human mortal to be your big and powerful boss, even you admit that would be better than Dean, why settle for him when you can have someone much more powerful. Please, if you let us go, we will find this being for you to be the new Death someone far more superior. Come on, is your need to for vengeance that more important the having a more suitable being as your new boss?" he said praying that he's persuading them.
"Where would you find such a being anyway?" asked the bearded reaper.
"Our friend is an angel you know Castiel, we can have him help us find a powerful being, I know he knows plenty" Sam said.
The reapers paused a bit and looked among each other.
"You expect us to trust you to and your angel pal Castiel who's proven he's more loyal to you. For all we know you could be setting a trap" said the bearded reaper.
"No, no trap, look Castiel would do anything for us even helping us locate someone to be the new Death if it frees Dean, and besides, we know there is more of you out there and you could take revenge on others that we care about and we would never take that risk. I'm willing to help you get a new Death if it saves my brother, I do anything" Sam cried out.
The reapers just paused and glared at each other again.
"Hey, I would think a super being would be a much suitable choice than Dean and that you care more about restoring order in the world which is much more important than your personal revenge" Sam replied.
They continued to pause and Dean who was silent this whole time spoke up.
"You know my brother is right, I mean anybody powerful would be much better for the job than just plan human flesh and bones me, trust me when I say I would make a lousy boss to you all" Dean said trying to sound all sarcastic even though he was nervous as heck.
The reapers all had conflicted and confused looks on their faces as they if they didn't know how to respond to Sam's suggestions.
"Although we would love to avenge our boss's demise, you do make an interesting case. I have to admit I would prefer someone that was one of us or even our heaven comrades over some mere human flesh to take our boss's place, so we will take a time to discuss it among ourselves, of course we will have someone remain here to stand guard and all" replied the bearded reaper and he then nodded to one of the male reapers, a young blonde-haired guy and directed him to keep guard as the others exit the room to talk it over.
After they left Dean turned to Sam. "Sam, what the heck of plan was that?" he replied to him.
"I had to think of something, they were about to make you put on that dang ring and be the new Grim Reaper, I wasn't going to let that happen" Sam told him.
"Hey, I think it was a good move, it bided time and I hope it works and gets you off the hook" said Ava who had been quiet this whole time.
Dean turned to glace at Ava. "But what if the Avengers out there don't go along with the idea, more importantly, what if they do, I mean how are we going to find anybody willing to take my place?" he asked.
"Like is said before, that's where Castiel comes in" Sam told him.
"Can we really expect Cas to be able to track down any of his angel pals who mostly in heaven now to be the volunteer?" Dean said turning back to Sam.
"I'm sure with his help we can search for any of his old angel comrades who are still on earth or any other reapers he can contact to take will be willing to step in and be the big boss of all the reapers" Sam said.
"Are you sure about that?" Dean asked not seeming so sure but hopeful.
"Yeah, do you guys really know what you're doing?" asked Ava.
"I hope so, because this our only hope" Sam said.
"Hey, enough with the talking humans" cried the blonde reaper guarding them as he was starting to get tired of their talking.
"Look at that guy, I guess no talking in the class huh?" Dean replied being sarcastic.
"Hey, shut up there or I will shut you up myself" the blonde reaper told Dean in a threatening tone and they stopped talking after that.
Just then, the other reapers came back in the room seeming to have made up their mind.
"So, the meeting back in session, I can't wait" Dean cried out still in the sarcastic tone while Sam just gave Dean a look hinting to him not to push it.
The bearded reaper walked up to Dean. "Okay, after enough discussion we gave to a decision. Although plenty of us want to avenge our old boss's demise at your hands by making you take his place, most of us, all agree that we would prefer a far more superior being than you Dean Winchester to be preside over all us reapers" he told him.
"Well, I'm touched by your confidence in me" Dean said who couldn't help but make another sarcastic remark as part of his defense mechanism as he really was scared what the outcome would be and quite relieved that he's no longer a consideration as the new Death although he didn't show it.
"Yes, Dean, many us don't really have you in mind as nearly good enough to be the new Death, the head honcho of all us reapers so we will go with Sam's idea for you to find a better selection instead" the bearded reaper said.
"Thanks guys" Sam said who was quite relieved.
Ava too sighed in relief of Dean being spared.
"Yeah, thanks a lot you all, that's means a lot" Dean had to add in once again with his sarcastic tone.
"Not so fast there, we need to get some things straight before we go along with decision" the bearded reaper said.
"Like what?" Sam asked.
"First, we need to make sure you are not going to double cross us, so while we will let you and the girl go, Dean will remain here with us, and if it turns out to be just a trick and you try to betray us, you will never see Dean here ever again at least not as a mortal. Anybody tries to show up here, by the time they get inside, we will all be gone, so you better hold up your end of the bargain, you got us" the bearded reaper added.
"Hey, I'm not leaving Dean here" replied Sam.
"Neither am I" Ava added. "
Look, you two don't got a choice, we're calling all the shots here, and if you want to save your brother you will agree to our terms" the bearded reaper said.
"It's alright guys, I'll be okay here with our new pals, just do what you got to do find Cas help him find anybody who's willing to fill the new role of the big boss" Dean replied.
"Are you sure, Dean?" Sam asked looking a bit concerned about leaving his brother behind.
"Yeah, Sam just go" Dean told him.
"Well, if you're staying so am I, I won't leave without you" Ava snapped.
The bearded reaper turned to her. "Hey, we get to decide who stays and who goes and only Dean here is remaining behind" he told her.
"Ava, it's okay, go with Sam, besides he and Cas will need an extra hand it in their little mission, don't worry about me I'll be alright, I promise" Dean told her.
"Well, I do anything to help get your out of this mess" Ava said.
The bearded reaper turned to one of his men. "Untie him and then the girl" he instructed him.
The guy pulled out a pair of scissors from a little duffle bag on the floor and used it cut the duct tape wrapped around Sam and untied him. Sam got up quickly moving his arms quite bit to as they were a bit sore from being tied up. Then the reaper went over and did the exact same thing to Ava who quickly got up to rub her arms.
"Finally glad to be able to move my arms and legs again" she replied trying to sound sarcastic.
The bearded reaper turned to Sam. "I will only give you three days to find any being willing to take Dean's place starting tomorrow and no longer. If you don't find anybody by midnight after the third night, your brother becomes the new Death. If you do find our new Death, you are contact us immediately as we will answer on your brother's phone and then give you further instructions and that's our conditions, you got it" he instructed him.
Sam really didn't like those conditions only having only small amount of time to find some any supernatural being who is willing to take Dean's place since he imagined it could take him a week or even longer, but he had no choice as the reapers were in control now.
"Yeah, got it" he told him reluctantly.
Then Sam turned to Dean.
"Dean, I promise I will do whatever it takes to get you out of this mess, and I swear will, we'll find whoever we need to take your spot and we will succeed, we got to" he told his brother sternly.
"Yeah, I guess I have no choice but to trust you all just get back in one piece" Dean told him.
"Oh, I will need the keys to the car" Sam said.
"Sure" Dean replied as he reached inside his winter jacket pocket and pulled out his car keys and handed them to Sam.
"I'm also trusting you to take care of baby there too" he told him.
"No problem" Sam said as he took the keys.
"You can also give us your phone while you're at it, we will need it" replied the bearded reaper who was standing nearby.
"Sure there pal" Dean replied as the pulled out his iphone from his other jacket pocket and handed it to the reaper.
As Sam stepped away, Ava went over to Dean and leaned forward until she was right in his face. "Dean, I swear I do all I can to help and I won't give up, we will get you out of this, believe me, I'm not losing you to the reapers" she told him.
"I know you will darling, I trust you as much as I do Sam, just look out for one another out there" he told her.
"You got it" she told him seriously looking almost like she was about to cry. "I hate to leave you here like this with them" she replied briefly glancing at the reapers.
"Don't worry about them, luv just get back in one piece like I told Sam here and hopefully with whoever will take my spot to be the new head honcho" he replied.
"Take care of yourself Dean" Ava told him as she leaned and gave him a passionate kiss and Dean kissed her back while the reapers just looked on unmoved and the bearded one just rolled his eyes.
"Okay, okay, come on now, this isn't some love story, I don't have all night" he replied as Ava and Dean let go if each other and backed away.
"Goodbye for now" she told him.
"Yeah, Same here bro" Sam added.
"Take care yourselves" Dean told them again. Then Sam looked up back at the bearded reaper.
"We will bring back somebody to step in as your new boss, and you better not have harmed Dean while we're gone and keep up your end of the bargain to let him go or so help me I don't care how powerful you all are, I will do whatever it takes to hunt everyone of you down" he told him very firmly.
"That goes double for me" Ava chimed in.
The bearded reaper just smirked.
"No need to worry, we honor our promises, you just better hold up you end or it's say hello to the new Death" he said glancing at Dean.
"Wow, you don't know how honored I feel" Dean said in a sarcastic tone to hide his fears.
"That we'll do" Sam replied then glanced back at Dean again and then turned to Ava.
"Come on, we better get going now" he told him.
"I'm sorry, but this will only be temporary" she said as she followed Sam out of the room.
"No worries guys, just look out for one another" Dean reminded them again, they waved and he waved back as they exited the room.
As they were leaving, two of the reapers followed them out to show them the door. As they headed to the front door one of the reapers opened it for them and Sam and Ava headed out with Ava going first. As Sam followed Ava out he stopped at the doorway and turned to the reapers.
"I will get my brother out of this no matter what" he told them.
"We'll see in time" one of them replied.
As Sam exited the house the, one of the reapers closed the door back behind them and soon Sam and Ava were walking away from the house and to the Impala.
"Are you sure we will accomplish this; I mean do you have any ideas who we can find?" she asked him.
"No but Cas might once we ask him" he told her.
They both got into the Impala with Sam this time the driver and Ava in the passenger's seat and within seconds, they drove off from the house as they both looked at it one last time. As they were driving away, Ava turned to Sam.
"You know Sam, I hope this plan of yours works" she told him.
"Me too" he said as they both understood they had the same goal and that was to save Dean who meant a lot to both of them.
"You know, Sam I meant what I said, I'm in this for the long haul, I help however I can, just so we can get Dean back" she told him.
Sam turned her with a tender look. "You really love my brother don't you?" he asked her.
Ava nodded her head. "Yes, I really do, never thought I feel that way about anyone in a long time" she said.
"Neither did Dean" he told her and she smiled. "Don't worry Ava, we will get him back I'm sure of that" he added.
Just then he stopped the car in the middle of the road.
"Why did you stop?" Ava asked him.
"Because I don't feel like driving all the way back to the bunker, just trust me" he said and then looked upwards.
"Cas, Castiel, can you hear me, please come to me right now" he said as Ava looked upwards too.
Just then in few seconds Castiel appeared in the back seat. "Hello guys" he replied as Ava jumped a bit.
"Cas, we need to talk" Sam told him.
"Where's Dean, what happened" he asked him. "That's what we need to talk about, I will tell you everything just want you to take us back to the bunker garage with the car and all.
"What happened to Dean, Sam, did they make him the new Death is that it?" Castiel asked with a nervous look on his face.
"No, he's not the new Death just yet, he's alright for now, I promise you but look like I said will tell you everything please" Sam urged him.
Castiel then glanced at Ava. "Oh, I'm glad you're okay" he told her realizing he hadn't acknowledged her.
"Yes, thanks good seeing you too" she replied.
"Please Castiel take us back there is so much we need to discuss for Dean's sake" Sam pleaded again.
Castiel nodded his head. "Okay" was all he said within a few seconds, the car just vanished into thin air.
