Chapter 26 Another Rescue, Another Battle
Sam and Amy headed back to where everybody else was as Zadkiel was prepping the others on their rescue mission for Castiel trying to enlists many volunteers as he could. Some were still reluctant to go and weary about the whole thing.
"Why should we stick our neck out for some angel who is friends with the humans?" asked Oscar as a few others agreed.
"Like I said before, Castiel is also a good friend of mine and we stuck our necks out for each other the last time he was here. He would do the same for me without question, regardless of your feelings for the humans, Castiel needs our help now more than ever, for my sake please, do I have any more volunteers?" he urged them.
Oscar still seemed hesitant but soon the others volunteered.
"Hey, you can count me in, if this Castiel is a friend of Zadkiel's he's our ally too" Amy cried out as she walked back with Sam.
Ava turned around pleased to see them. Soon others also volunteered until the majority agreed to help Zadkiel including Oscar who was finally persuaded while others remained behind, of course the children weren't an option as they wouldn't be allowed to volunteer. Ava walked up to Sam and Amy.
"So, did you two say what was all needed to be said?" she asked them. Sam nodded.
"Yeah, we did and it was nice catching up" he replied turning to Amy.
"Same goes for me" Amy told him. "Glad, Zadkiel was able to get most of them to join in the rescue, the more the better the chances right?" Ava said.
"I just know we will definitely be part of that mission and Amy, thank you for helping, I know you don't even know Castiel but thanks anyway" Sam told her.
"Hey, I meant what I said, if he's Zadkiel's friend and your friend than he's an ally and I will do anything to help" she told him.
"Boy, I guess it will be a while until they finish their rescue plan, and boy I do need to get out of these wet clothes and get into something much drier and the same for you too Sam" Ava said as she wrapped her arms around her body to exaggerate how cold she was.
"I could help with that" said Amy.
About an hour later, both Sam and Ava were finally out of their wet clothes with Ava wearing a long old flannel shirt and Sam in an old coat borrowed by some of the creatures that creatures found off of dead creatures since they figured they didn't need to go to waste. Meanwhile a campfire was now lit in the cave and Sam and Ava's clothes were being held over the fire with branches by couple of the female creatures. Both Sam and Ava stood near to fire also hoping to dry their hair as well as Ava made conversation one of female creatures who had some children with her. The female who was holding her clothes over the fire was a vampire who looked about in her thirties with long blonde hair, blue eyes dressed in jeans and old shirt. One of the children a dark-haired little girl about eight years old just looked at Ava with curiosity in her face. Ava just smiled at the child, but the girl didn't smile back, just stared with no expression on her face making Ava bit awkward.
"Mihaela, it's not nice to stare" said the female vampire who had a British accent. The little girl then just stopped staring and looked away. "Forgive Mihaela, she's not used to humans, in fact she hadn't seen one since she's been here" said the vampire.
"Oh, that's okay, I don't really mind" Ava said even though she felt awkward by the thought that this child was a creature and was here because she was killed back on earth.
"Oh by the way, I never told you my name, it's Saffron although most just call me Saffy for short and this curious little thing is Mihaela" the vampire said as she extended her other hand pointing at Michaela who remained quiet.
Ava just looked down at the girl and smiled. "Hello Mihaela, my name is Ava and this Sam" she pointed and Sam direction who just gave a little smile.
"Hello, Mihaela," was all he said.
"It's nice to meet you" Ava replied to her girl as she couldn't think of what else to say but the child remained quiet staring up at her and Sam with curious big brown eyes. "Don't mind her, she doesn't say much especially to strangers, but she's no trouble at all" Saffy said.
Ava glanced back at the child again who just stared back then looked away so Ava turned back to Saffy. "Is she you're girl?" she asked her.
Saffy just shook her head. "No, none of the children are mine, I just look at them, me and Zoya here" she said directing at the other woman who was drying their clothes and had been silent this whole time. She was a slightly older woman with long brown hair, steel blue eyes dressed in and old sweater and gray pants and had quite a pale complexion.
"None of these kids here have any families or anybody for that matter to look at them, so we stepped in" she finished glancing at the other children around who were of different ages, and few of different races.
"They're different breeds, some are vampires like myself, others are werewolves like Zoya here or shapeshifters, ghouls and whatever, there plenty others around here not just these bunch, there around somewhere in this cave, it's sometimes hard to keep up with them" Saffy finished.
"So, you're basically mother to homeless monster kids" Sam added not meaning to sound sarcastic.
"I guess you can say that hun, but they need somebody in this place" Saffy said.
"What happened to their parents, I might ask?" Ava asked her.
"Some came here without their parents, few of them were offed by their folks when they became you know not human anymore. Mihaela here, did come with both her parents, she was born into her the vampire camp, but her folks got offed by some of the other creatures, here, it is really and us against them mentality with plenty of those in this world, I stumbled upon her one time out in the woods alone and scared and I just took her with many. Word can travel fast when children arrive her since it doesn't happen often. Anyway, she's found a home here since" Saffy explained.
"Poor thing" Ava said who couldn't help but feel sorry for the vampire girl as well as the other children as it wasn't there faults they were the way they were, she recalled the time as hunter were few times was forced to kill werewolf or vampire children or attacked her but it didn't happen a lot which she was relieved as it was quite upsetting to her when she had to end the lives of children or see them suffer for something they were not responsible for.
"Don't you worry make much now, she's in good hands now, she's got family and protection" Saffy said.
"Well, I guess that's a relief" Ava said. "it's not easy for sure" replied Zoya who had been silent this whole time and also had a thick foreign accent, Russian possibly.
"They are quite a handful, I ought to know since, I have my own boy to look after too as well as these lot, my Andrei, he's a teenager, sixteen, he's somewhere around here probably I suspect with that werewolf girl, she's a few years older than him but you know at age, the hormones and all" she finished as both Ava and Sam couldn't help be a bit amused listening to her story about her kid.
It was all so surreal, they're creatures now in this monster afterlife and talk about the same problems normal humans have.
"I notice that your accent is British" Ava couldn't help but remark.
"Yeah, I'm a Brit as you say, I'm mean we're everywhere, all over the world, Zoya here is a Russian, and Mihaela is from Romania herself" Saffy replied.
"And you can all understand each other?" Ava asked.
"Pretty much, in here it doesn't matter your language, you will be able to understand one another in anyway, that even includes you live humans, I guess in this place that's the magic of this place, the afterlife for the undead" Saffy said.
"I suppose" Ava said.
"I think your clothes are just about dry" replied Zoya.
"Oh, what a relief" replied Sam.
After another five minutes, the women handed back their clothes that were completely dry now and Sam and Ava got dressed in separate areas of the cave where they had their privacy and Ava pinned back her now dry hair. Then they went to speak with Benny who told them more details about their rescue plan and have many volunteers including Amy and how some of their people went out to get information from sources outside, usually they would be those who would be willing to provide info for favors and it was best that each creature contact others of their own species for their info and they all returned and informed Benny or Zadkiel.
"From what we've learned from our outside sources, those leviathans still have Castiel trapped in that same angel trap and are still waiting on Eve" he told them.
"But how come they haven't brought him to Eve, why wait there?" asked Ava.
"I suppose, they can't risk Castiel overpowering them, he's completely helpless in the angel trap, even his powers won't help him" Benny explained.
"But I wonder what's keeping Eve from arriving already not that I'm not relieved?" Sam asked.
"From what I hear, it took a while for them to even find Eve who's off god know's where, and I suppose she's not in a hurry to get to him. They've just been instructed to keep Castiel there until she arrives which is good for us because we can get the jump on them" Benny said.
Sam just nodded his head a bit. "Good" he replied.
Then Ava spoke up. "When do we take off on this mission?" she asked a bit eagerly.
"Well, everybody is preparing right now being armed with weapons for protection. Some will remain behind to look after the little ones, mostly the elderly folks" Benny replied.
"Well, me and Sam will be ready to set off once he grabs our weapons" Ava replied.
"Yeah, I told Zadkiel you two will insist on taking part of this rescue and he has no problems with it, the more the better the odds" Benny said.
After twenty minutes had passed everybody who was going on the mission was prepared armed with purgatory blades including Sam and Ava with Amy standing near them. Zadkiel was standing in front of them all with Benny beside him giving one last speech before setting off on their rescue mission. Ava and Sam couldn't help feel impatient as they were anxious to get of there and rescue Castiel already. After he finished, they all set off waving goodbye to the ones that remained behind which included Saffron and Zoya who would remain to watch over the children along with some of the elderly creatures. They left the cave and headed out into the woods clutching their weapons tightly as the made their way to where Castiel and the leviathans were last seen.
"I just hope that Eve didn't there first by the time we show up" Sam said as he turned to Ava.
"Yeah, me too, don't worry Sam, I believe we will get there in time and get Castiel out and once we gank those leviathan bastards" Ava said.
Sam felt better already especially with Ava and now Amy in his corner who was also walking next to him.
"Your friend is right, we will get your angel friend Castiel out of there and take care of those leviathans. I know it's been while since I've had to fight for survival but I'm here with you too, we all are" she told him.
"That means a lot too, Amy" Sam told her. They walked on into the forest for quite some time some looking over their shoulders for surprise attacks.
They finally were near the spot where Sam and Ava were forced to leave Castiel and they all ducked behind trees in the woods to stay hidden as Castiel was in the same spot standing in the middle of the angel trap as a group of leviathans still there hanging around seeming to wait for something whom they all suspect that someone to be Eve to arrive. Zadkiel was the first to speak up.
"Okay, everybody what we're going to do is a sneak attack, since they're not expecting anything, we will surprise them and take them off guard and do what we got to do to subdue him, while I will free Castiel from the trap okay" he told his crew.
They all nodded and agreed. As the leviathans' backs were turned and none of them seemed to be paying attention, Zadkiel turned to and gave everybody a nod signaling them to attack and within moments, they advanced at the leviathans charging at them weapons drawn and before anyone knew it, a battle started. The group was fighting with the leviathans who were fighting back.
However, the group had the advantage since they outnumbered them and one by one, they all managed to chop off the leviathans' heads with the purgatory swords they used. Sam and Ava were also holding their one with the leviathans and Amy came to their assistance at one point as she proved to quite skilled with a sword and even took out two leviathans. They also kicked their torsos away from their head to keep them from reanimating as they knew, they wouldn't stay down for long as they are hard to kill and even chopping their heads off only subdues them temporary. It won't be long when they reanimate.
Meanwhile, Zadkiel was spent the time to free Castiel from the angel trap by using a lighter he sets a cloth on fire and throws it down on the ground inside the angel trap and soon the ground where the enochian symbols are set on fire and start to burn. The fire spreads throughout the trap but Castiel just stands there immune to the fire since he's an angel who still has his grace and all his full powers. He's not affected at all even when the fire spread to his legs burning his pants as he had already removed his shoes and socks and even his trench coat and is holding them in his arms. As everything inside the trap burns away, he manages to walk and step outside the trap finally as his pants still burning but Zadkiel puts the fire out with a bottle of water he had throwing on Castiel's pants.
Some of the other creatures put out the fire in the angel trap using bottles of water they had brought with them until the fire is safely out and the ground is now burnt and the enochian sigils are no longer there. Castiel is free now his lower pants nearly burnt off from the fire but he's fine as he begins to put back his shoes and socks and trench coat. The battle is over now and the leviathans have been beaten. Zadkiel and Castiel embrace.
"Good to see you again my friend" Zadkiel tells his old comrade.
"Good to see you too and can thank you enough for rescuing me" replied Castiel as the two stopped hugging.
"Hey, you should also thank your two friends here, who came to me for help saving you bacon" said Zadkiel and Sam and Ava ran over to Castiel.
Sam without thinking ran over and gave Castiel a quick hug. "Man, we're so glad you're alright, we hated leaving you, but we got you out we all did" he told him as he let him go.
"Yeah, that goes for me too, Castiel, we feel sorry that you got trapped by those leviathan bastards but everything going to be alright now" she told him.
Castiel just smiled. "Thank you guy and I don't blame you for leaving, I wanted you too, besides, I knew you will find a way to break me out" he said just glad to be free.
Benny then came over to were. "Hey, long time no see old comrade, so good we got you out like we did, you would have been toast if that Eve had arrived before we did" he replied as he gave Castiel a nice pat on the shoulder.
Castiel just smiled at him. "Good to see you, I didn't expect Sam and Ava to find you too" he said.
"Well, me and Zadkiel here are all pals too, we are put of the same tribe, as you say" Benny said.
"Tribe?" Castiel replied confused.
"I will explain the whole thing, once we get back to your headquarters, now come with us from what Sam told me, we got a lot of catching up to do" Zadkiel said as he placed his hand on Castiel shoulder and lead him away.
"I know, there is so much I need to tell you too" Castiel replied. "Hey, let's just get out of here before those creatures reanimate, I don't want to stick around for that" Sam said.
"Same" Ava replied.
Within seconds, Zadkiel turned to the rest of the group and directed them to head back to their cave and they all were off within seconds into the woods as Sam, Ava, Benny and Zadkiel walked with Castiel as Zadkiel gave explained to him about his new utopia he shared with his followers that included Benny. Amy also walked along Sam and Ava, as they thanked her for her help and introduced her to Castiel who was a bit surprised that Sam had an old monster friend too who also happened to be in the same group with Benny. Ava leaned over to whisper to Sam. "Hey, once we head back, do you still think Castiel can be the one to reason with Zadkiel to come back with us?" she asked him.
Sam then leaned close to her ear and whispered, "I hope so, I really do. Just remember whatever happens, we are not leaving this place empty handed, we still have our backup plan" Sam told her.
Ava nodded. "I just hope it doesn't come down to that but I'm willing to do whatever it takes to save Dean, so help me" she told him.
"So help us both" Sam replied.
"So help you both what?" asked Castiel who heard some of their conversation.
"We can talk more about it back at the cave" Sam told him.
Castiel just looked curious although he knew it had something to do with Zadkiel. But for now all that mattered to all three of them was that they freed Castiel and now's back with them and they can continue on with their mission to persuade Zadkiel to go back with them to take Dean's place. Hopefully, Benny is right that Castiel can be the one to get through to him about returning and if not, they still had their backup plan which that they neither Sam nor Ava had filled Castiel in but they just prayed he will go along if it's the only way to help Dean in fact they are sure he will. Dean's wellbeing biggest thing that matters to all three of them and they will do whatever it takes to save no matter what.
