Chapter 31 A Winchester's Valentine's Day Gone Wrong Part 1
The month passed on quickly with Ava now an official resident in the bunker. She continued to get up early in the morning sometimes dressed in nothing but Dean's long shirt and slippers as the others just sat down and waited for her to fix their plates. Afterwards, she and Dean would usually clean up by washing the dishes together. The two of them continued acting like a couple of newlyweds, making out a lot, sometimes in front of the others as if they weren't even there. Then by the evening, Ava would fix them dinner or sometimes, she and Dean would go out while the others remained behind eating leftovers or a TV dinner using the microwave that they got a year ago, or everybody would go out for dinner.
She was definitely a breath of fresh air and Dean was more entranced of having her around everyday. Since there weren't any cases for them to go to, he spent days or evenings with her or hanging out with Sam and Adam sometimes Charlie too. At night, the lovemaking would be incredible, although sometimes they would a be a bit too loud to everybody's else's annoyance or amusement. Ava's presence certainly changed the dynamic since when he sometimes spent lot of time with her, he would spend less with the others and during those times Sam particularly started to feel left out. Ava started to sense this when Dean couldn't and just less than a week before his 37th birthday, she suggested Dean spent some more time with Sam just the two of them just before she was going away to one of her uncle's funeral in Iowa.
During her absence, Dean did just that as he and Sam went fishing together while Adam and Charlie remained behind, playing the latest video game together. They spent a long time at the lake and although they only caught one fish, they enjoyed themselves together just the two of them in what felt like a long while. Ava returned in time for Dean's birthday and got him a birthday gift and then got him a better gift late that night in bed, showing off a sexy red lace one piece lingerie she got for herself just for his eyes and then seduced him into some real passionate lovemaking. Dean appreciate that gift far better than the present she gave him earlier.
Two days after Dean's birthday, the finally got their first case in quite a while. The case of a former convent converted into condos in Pennsylvania, where residents are haunted by a ghost of a vengeful nun who is killing some of the residents, others who have survived seeing her fled from the place. They did their research, and it turns out the nun was murdered by a priest she was having an affair with and her body was buried somewhere on the property. Dean and Sam enlisted Ava's help since she was bored and three is better than two afterall, plus Ava proved to be a great asset even saving their bacons and was the one that found the skeletal remains to set on fire. Afterwards, they all celebrated having a few drinks at the local bar and played pool all night long that they overslept the next morning but returned back to the bunker in one piece.
Then February arrived and soon Valentine's Day came, and Dean had planned the perfect Valentine's Day date with Ava which was a nice romantic road trip in the country and maybe ice fishing at the lake. That morning, they agreed to take Ava's van rather than use the Impala, since it's bigger and has a place where they could sleep at night rather than spending the night at a motel. They both packed their things for the trip and due to the cool weather, they wore sweaters under their winter jackets and a pair of gloves and a winter hat. Ava was especially excited about going ice fishing as she had never gone before although both Dean and Sam went with their dad as kids, so Dean promised to teach her reminding it's not too much different than normal fishing. Sam too was heading off to spend Valentine's Day with Gwen in Minnesota and he was already prepared that morning and was going to take his own personal car.
Once again Adam and Charlie were going to be left behind but that was okay since they just decided to spend the day playing their video games together then watch a movie, not a cheesy romantic movie for the holiday but a nice action-packed movie or two from a one of their DVDs, get a pizza for dinner and maybe listen to some good music to chill to. Sam left the bunker first, after an early breakfast, he departed a little after 7a.m., then Dean and Ava left about a couple hours later having all said their goodbyes to Adam and Charlie. Dean drove the van and Ava was a bit relieved to be on the passenger side for a change and just sat back to enjoy the ride.
"I can't wait to be out there at the lake doing my very first ice fishing. Wish my dad took me as a kid but he hated fishing in the cold weather, always waited until it was warm and sunny" Ava said with a smile on her face as she was chilling to some good music on the radio.
"I can tell you it's not much different than any other fishing, except you do it on the frozen water" Dean told her.
"Just have to wait and see I guess," said Ava.
They drove for quite while into the area although the icy roads made it take them a bit longer to get to their destination. Eventually, they found the lake they were headed to which was frozen by the cold weather as expected. Dean parked the van near the lake, and they soon got out of the van and unpacked their fishing gear and a chisel they planned to use to make a hole in the ice. As they headed towards the frozen lake, Ava suddenly looked a bit cautious.
"Dean, are you really sure it's safe to go on the lake, I mean, the ice won't break all of the sudden?" she asked nervously. Dean just shook his head.
"Of course not, look, me and Sam did this with my dad plenty of times as kids, trust me it's quite safe" he told her.
Ava looked reassured and Dean took the chisel and began using it to poke a hole in the ice as he repeatedly poked the ice going up and down quite fast until finally the ice broke, and Dean kept doing until he finally made a nice hole neither too small nor big. Ava just stood back looking excited as Dean prepared their fishing rods for fishing getting everything that was needed. Then he handed one of the fishing rods to Ava and he took hold of the other.
"Wow, I can't wait to really do this" Ava replied like an excited eager kid.
"Okay, I think you should go first; I like to show you how it's done" Dean told her.
"I think I know how it's done, as you said it yourself, it's just like any ordinary fishing and I have gone fishing before, so I think I can get the hang of this right now" Ava replied.
Dean just smirked kind of impressed by her confidence for someone hadn't done this before. "Okay, darling feel free to start anytime, ladies first, as they say" he told her as he made a gesture with his hand bringing it forward inviting her to go before him.
"Fine, fine, I bet I will do good on the first try" said Ava in a cocky tone with grin on her face.
"We'll see" replied Dean grinning right back at her.
Ava soon took a hold of her fishing rod and soon lowered the string into the hole holding a tight grip of the pole. In no time, she was just standing there as if she was a pro as she just stood there and waited to catch a fish. They waited for about almost 45 minutes although it felt like forever and waiting that long especially with the cold wind started to make Dean a bit hungry.
"Look, I'm going to go and get myself a snack in the van, you want something?" he asked her.
"Ava just shook her head, "no, I couldn't eat anything waiting to catch any damn fish, you get yourself something" she told him.
"Okay" Dean said as he walked away until he got off the frozen lake and was back on the ground and headed towards there van.
Inside searched around in one of their paper bags and found a box of cheez-it and taking the whole box and some napkins, he then exited the van and was heading back to the frozen lake. He pulled one of his gloves and placed it in his coat pocket so he could use his hand and dig into the box pulling out some of the crackers to eat and didn't care how cold his hand was. Just as he was about to walk back to the frozen lake, he heard Ava make a scream in excitement and he quickly looked up as she appeared to have caught something and was pulling out. Ava kept a tight grip on the pole as she was wrestling around with it while she was pulling up whatever she could.
"Oh my, Dean I caught one, I finally caught one!" she shouted as she kept trying to hold on to her fishing pole moving about as she did so.
Dean got on the frozen lake heading back to where she was so he could help her pull up whatever she caught but, he didn't seem to need to do that. Within moments, Ava soon pulled up a medium size fish that was wigging around on her fishing pole as Ava kept moving about trying to hold a good grip.
"Oh, I got one, I really got one Dean, looks like I was right afterall, I would catch one on the first try!" she cried out to him as she struggled to grab a hold of the fish who was still wiggling around.
"Hey, beginner's luck!" he called out as he was walking on the ice toward her direction.
"Sure, it was" Ava replied sarcastic and then after moving about she finally managed to grab a hold of the fish.
"Oh, I really did it and this is real beauty, make a nice dinner tomorrow" Ava said quite slyly as she still struggled with the fish in her hands.
As Dean was walking towards her, he noticed something peculiar. As Ava was moving about struggling with the fish, he looked down to see some of the ice she was near starting to crack and soon the ice she was standing on also began to crack.
"Ava look out for the ice!" he cried out as he started to run up to her fearing the worst was about to happen.
Ava turned around and looked at Dean confused.
"What do you mean Dean!" she yelled back.
Dean just looked down and saw the ice crack some more. Ava get out of there, watch out!" he yelled again as he was kept running towards her.
Just then Ava looked down long enough to notice the cracks in the ice and then she panicked and tried to step back but slip on the ice and before she knew it, she fell into through the broken ice. She made a screaming sound just as fell through the ice into the cold icy water.
"Ava!" Dean yelled as she was now splashing around in the cold water struggling to get out but was having a hard time pulling herself out.
Dean finally was able to get to her and as soon as he got there, he dropped the box of cheez-it, and bent over the hole reaching his hand out to her. "Hey, grab my hand Ava, quickly" he told her.
Ava reached out her hand to him and he managed to grab it and then using his all his strength he attempted to pull her out but then the ice around him continued to crack and when he looked down, he noticed the ice cracking near his feet and the break causing him to stumble and soon he fell into the icy water with her.
"Oh, that's just perfect, now will both fell through ice what now" she cried out who was so agitated as she couldn't stand the cold water that made her body feel like knives through her body.
Dean just stayed still despite that he too was freezing his butt off and then grabbed a hold of Ava. "Look, don't panic, we will get out of this, but I just need you to stay still okay" he told her.
"Yeah, that's easy said and done, I'm freezing like hell here" Ava said still frustrated about what happened.
"Don't worry, I will get us out just trust me okay" Dean told her.
Ava nodded her head. "Okay" she said as she held on to Dean.
Dean, still holding on to Ava, guided both of them to the area of the frozen ice that hadn't cracked or was broken, and he pulled Ava up.
"Ava, I want you to slowly climb out on the spot, but gently, do you think you can that?" Dean told her.
Ava nodded again. "Just hope this side doesn't break" she told him.
"Don't worry, just gently climb you way out" Dean told her as she reached to the spot and did exactly what Dean told her and he helped by gently pushing her body out from behind.
"Steady now, slowly" he instructed in a soft tone.
Although it took some effort, Ava managed to climb her way out of the ice and was now laying down in the ice scared to move hoping it wouldn't crack but then she gently got up on all fours and kneeled over where Dean was as it was his turn next. Dean gently and slowly pulled himself out and Ava helped him by taking a hold of his arms and gently pulling him out. Soon, he was lying on the ice as well now cold as hell. They both got up wrapping their arms around their torsos as they were now freezing after being in that cold water.
"Are you okay?" Dean asked her.
"Well, other than freezing my buns off and losing the damn fish, I'm just peachy Dean" she replied sarcastically.
"Hey, I guess we won't have that nice meal for dinner tomorrow after all" Dean replied trying to cheer her up but she didn't look amused.
"Dean I just want to get the hell out of here already, I think I've had enough of ice fishing" Ava said annoyed.
"Okay, okay, we're done with our little ice fishing expedition for today, let's just head back to the van and change our clothes" Dean said.
He then picked up the cheez-it box and they gathered their fishing gear and walked off the frozen lake and back to the van. Once inside, the two of them changed their clothes as they had planned to be there for an extra day. Dean put on pull over sweater over a shirt and a new pair of jeans and some a pair of boots he took with him. Ava changed into a wool sweater and thick jeans and boots and took her pinned hair down that was now wet and cold. Despite this, they were both still cold as hell and decided to warm each other up by huddling together in the van trying to get warm.
"I gotta say, this wasn't my idea of a romantic day, falling through a frozen lake then losing the fish I caught" Ava told him still a bit frustrated about what happened.
"Hey, I'm sorry it didn't go the way we planned, but I just wanted to do something different than the typical Hallmark thing of some candlelit dinner in fancy restaurant, giving each other love notes" Dean said feeling a bit frustrated himself.
"Love notes are fine; I would prefer a fancy restaurant than end up where we are now" Ava said.
"Hey, l said I'm sorry okay, if you wanna head back to the bunker we can do that and just call it a day "Dean told her.
Ava started to feel guilty making Dean feel bad about everything when all he really wanted to do was make this road trip great for both of them, so she just gave a little sigh and turned back to Dean.
"No, I'm sorry okay, I know you planned this good for both of us, and it was a good idea, spending Valentine's Day doing a road trip, would have been great if the accident didn't happen and that wasn't your fault, you couldn't have predicted it would turn out like this" she reassured him.
"I just wished I could have made this better for you, I really wanted to make this day special for you, being our first Valentine's Day together as a couple who now living together" Dean told her.
"The fact you planned all of this makes it special and you know there is a one romantic thing that came out of this, us huddled together is kind of nice and cozy" she told him with smile.
Dean then smiled right back. "Yeah, even though I have a better I idea of keeping us warm" he said with sly look.
"Wow, you always have a romantic thought, don't you" Ava said sarcastically.
"Yeah, I do" Dean said.
Soon they two started kissing and in no time, they were making out forgetting about how cold they both were. They were about to go even further when they heard a knock outside which caused them both to stop abruptly and jump a bit. It sounded like someone was outside knocking on the door to the van.
"What the hell is that?" asked Ava curiously.
"It sounds like someone is outside" Dean replied, and they both quickly looked out the van windows to see a young couple outside their van knocking on the van door.
"It looks like a couple of kids" Dean replied.
"What the hell could they want and what are they doing out here anyway?" Ava asked.
"I don't know but I think we should check it out" Dean said.
Just then they heard the young couple outside yelling. "Hey, we need help please open up!" they cried as they kept banging on the van door.
"Dean, I don't know about this, I'm a bit skeptical" Ava said.
"Well, these kids seem harmless enough and they could really be in trouble, don't want to just turn them away if that's the case, and if they cause any trouble, you know we can take them" Dean said.
Ava just nodded. "Alight, although I still have a funny feeling but maybe, I'm being a bit over cautious. It's just that when me and Bev were on the road, we dealt with fishy people once in a while who could give us a good sob story then try to scam us" she said.
"Well, like I said, we will hear them out just in case they're really in trouble and if it turns out they're trying to con us or anything like that we will be ready even if we have to take them" Dean said.
All along, the couple continued banging on the door begging for them to open up insisting they needed help, the girl even went over and started banging on the window pleading with them. Dean finally went over and opened the van door slowly and then the couple stopped banging and they were standing outside looking quite eagerly. Both Dean and Ava could see that this couple looked quite young not yet out of their teens or in their very early twenties. The guy had longish unkempt brown hair and looked like one of the stoners you see on the street and the girl had unkempt wild blonde hair and had a nose ring.
Dean and Ava started to feel a bit uneasy at first but then maybe they were a couple of harmless kids who needed help for whatever reason, or they wouldn't be knocking on the van, so Dean finally opened the door.
"Gee, thanks mister, we've been looking for someone to help us for a while now" said the eager young man with a panic look on his face.
"What's wrong, is there something we can do for you, kid?" asked Dean.
"Yeah, you can say that you see our car broke down some miles back and we've been walking for an hour, and we came upon your van and was hoping you give us a lift" replied the guy.
Ava just looked curious. "Where did your car break down again?" she asked.
"Like we said, some miles back east, and we been walking on the road since hoping to hitch a ride but you two are the first people we've seen you here" said the girl as she held her arm around her companion.
"Really, where are you two headed for anyway?" Dean couldn't help but ask.
"We were headed for a nice joy ride and then stop at restaurant for dinner and stay at a motel, but things didn't go as we planned with our car breaking down and all. I assume you and your woman here had the same idea" replied he guy with a grin on his face as he was gesturing to his girlfriend. "So, anyway we were hoping you two could give us a lift" the guy went on.
"Uh, well now as much as we feel for you two, we're not in habit of picking up strangers there, sorry dude" Dean replied.
"Oh, come on now, you wouldn't let a couple of kids like us be stranded in the middle of nowhere, have a heart man, I promise we're harmless as flies" the guy replied again who continued to have a grin look on his face.
"Hey, look we're sorry we really feel for you two, but we have a motto, no picking up strangers just to be on the safe side, but I'll tell you what, if you wait here, we will call the police to pick you up and take you wherever you want to go" Ava chimed in.
But the guy and the girl didn't look like they liked that idea at all as they stopped grinning and suddenly frowned. The guy shook his head. "Naw, you see we don't want any cops involved, that won't do at all, but your van will" he replied.
"What?" Ava quickly said and before they knew it both the guy and girl pulled out their guns and pointed them to their faces.
"What the hell man!" cried out Dean in disbelief.
"Yeah man, we kind of need your van and since the last car we borrowed broke down and all" he said sarcastically.
Dean and Ava who just stood there looking shocked and in disbelief about what was happening.
"Hey, look kid, we like to help but we can't give up the van, I mean it's not mine it's hers and it's a rather sentimental value to the misses here" said Dean pointing to Ava who just looked scared about all of this.
"Hey, I wasn't really asking I was telling you now both you and your lady out of the van and no funny business keep your hands where we can see them" the guy said sternly and had a more serious look on his face as did his companion.
Dean and Ava complied and place their hands up while young lovers just stood there. The guy then reached out and opened the van door as they kept pointing their guns at them.
"Hey look, if you want money fine but don't take my van, I give you anything but the van, like he said, it has a lot of sentimental value and good memories for me" Ava told them hoping to get on their soft side.
"Cry me a river dear, we don't give a damn" replied the guy.
"Yeah, besides you're not going to need it much for long anyway" The girl replied.
"What do you mean?" Dean asked looking all worried as he kind of knew where this was going.
"Just as you probably thinking, we can' leave any witnesses, can we?" said the guy.
"No way, baby" replied the girl giving an evil grin.
"Now, both of you out of that van and let's just get this over with quickly" said the guy.
"Hey, can't we talk this, I mean I'm sure we can figure out something, no need to be so drastic" Dean said.
"There is nothing to work out, we're taking the van and some of your money now if you don't give us a hard time, we will show some mercy by making it really quick and painless as possible" said the guy as he turned to the girl and they both just laughed and smirked seeming to enjoying the fear they were causing.
Dean just turned to Ava and gave a nod and a whisper, "I'll take him and you can handle her" he murmured.
"What was that?" that the guy replied as they ove heard what they said.
"On three" Dean cried out.
"Three!" yelled Ava and before the young couple knew it, Dean and Ava attacked them.
Dean karate kicked the gun out of the guy's and Ava did the same to the girl and it became fight with Dean and Ava getting the upper hand as they both managed to knocked out the couple, Dean gave the guy a knockout punch and Ava did the same to the girl and before they knew it, the fight was over as the guy and the girl now lay down on the ground on their backs out cold.
"And that's for trying to steal my van bitch!" Ava yelled out to the unconscious girl on the ground.
"Easy there, hellcat" Dean said teasingly.
Then Dean and Ava picked up their guns, checked to see if they had bullets which they did and then searched the unconscious couple to see if they had more weapons on them, but they could only find a pocketknife that Dean pulled from the guy's pants pocket.
"Just perfect, after falling through the ice and losing our fish, we end up being robbed by wannabe Bonnie and Clyde here" Ava replied now even more ticked off then before.
"Hey, I'm really sorry about all of this, it wasn't a picnic for me either but at least we took down these pieces of garbage" Dean told her feeling more remorseful about all of this even though it was all out of his control.
Ava was still angry about everything that happened just held a tight grip on the girl's gun over her body. "I just want to get out of here once and for all, don't care where we go as long as it's not here" she cried out in a fretful tone.
"Okay, don't worry we will, we just need to call the police on the Bonnie and Clyde part 2 here, I will say that was a nice smackdown you laid there, a real turn on" he told her with a grin hoping to cheer her up.
Ava finally gave a smile despite all of this misfortune placed on them.
"Yeah, well you weren't so bad yourself. I admit I can always count on us being the perfect kick-ass team, and I will admit seeing you whip that dude's ass was a bit a turn on for me too" she told him with a naughty grin on her face.
"After this all done, we definitely need to have some make-up sex" Dean said as they gave each other naughty looks while holding tight grips on their guns over the two unconscious criminal couple who tried to rob and then kill them as they stood over them in case they woke up and they didn't have any rope.
Dean then took out his phone which lucky for him is waterproof and called the police and told them what happened. Then they continued to just stand there holding their guns at the couple on the ground both relieved that their lives were spared but bummed out that their Valentine's Day trip had been spoiled and the only good thing they can see about all of this is that at least together they make a formable team having each other's back and can kick ass and get to live another day as a couple. To Dean, this is a sign that they are perfect for each other and he is even more glad to have Ava here with him at his side and he knows she feels the same way.
