The story takes place right after the season 10 finale, after Dean killed Death, the Mark of Cain was removed and Darkness was released into the world. I mentioned before, new characters will be added and thrown in the story and I will bring back several former characters from the show in the upcoming future.
Chapter 39 The Final Task
Gwen, Madame Bess filled Dean and Ava are their visions with Missouri adding her two scents and explained about their conclusion that the two spirits had plans to use their bodies as vessels to transport their souls in performing a spell by midnight. Dean and Ava's eyes just lit up as they listened, and the thought made them cringe.
"That explains the directions on how to perform the spell on that notebook we found in the basement" Ava said after the women were finished.
"And why those ghosts wouldn't let us out of the basement. They were keeping us hostage so they can perform their soul-transferring deed" Dean added.
"Well, they can't get to us now that we're out of there" said Ava.
"I still feel uneasy just standing out here" Gwen said.
"Me too, wish we could go somewhere more private, so if people drive by, they won't be curious about the crowd just standing around a creepy looking old house late at night" said Madame Bess.
"No problem, Cas do you think you can take us somewhere more private like in the woods" Dean said.
"I never liked being in the middle of the woods late at night" Gwen replied.
"Don't worry Gwen, you got all of us around including Cas" Sam assured her.
Castiel just nodded his head. "Okay everybody, grab a hold real quick" he instructed them.
All of them touched different parts of his body, shoulders, back, arm etc. and within seconds they were no longer in front of the house but now somewhere in the dark woods.
"Okay, now what is our next move?" asked Gwen.
"The only thing we need to do is get rid of those ghosts and since we can't just burn their remains because their souls are bound to house, we need to find a way to unbound their souls" Sam said.
"Well, we found this notebook in the basement, that had a list of spells, maybe it has instructions on how to unbound the souls" said Ava who was still holding the notebook.
"Plus, we found an old notebook in the attic too that had a list of spells and rituals" Sam said.
"Yes, but we left that notebook back in the attic" Gwen said.
"No problem, Cas can you go back and fetch that notebook, since you're the only one here immune to those ghosts" said Dean.
"That I can do" replied Castiel.
"Thanks Cas" Dean told him and with that Castiel was gone and within seconds he was back now holding an old worn-out looking notebook and Sam's flashlight that he dropped in the attic.
"Yeah, that's it" said Sam and then Castiel handed him the book and flashlight.
"I want to look through it to see if there is a spell we can use" Sam replied as he skimmed through the notebook using the flashlight in order to see.
He looked at all the spells written but only found one on how to bind your soul the house after death but nothing on how to unbound it. After what appeared to be over a minute he finally stopped and shook his head.
"No, there isn't anything here useful only how to bound your spirit to the house but nothing on how to und bound it" he said with a sigh.
"Okay, maybe I can find something in that notebook" Dean pointed to the old notebook Ava was holding.
"Do you mind Ava?" he asked her.
She handed him the book and Sam gave him the flashlight and he went through the book looking over everything but there was nothing and he finally gave up.
"There is nothing useful here either that could help" he told everybody shaking his head and then handed the book back to Ava.
"Hey, wait a minute, why don't we call up Adam and Charlie and ask them if they could find a spell in one of the books in the library, maybe even see if there is anything helpful in the Book of Damned" Sam suggested.
"But Sam, remember, we had that book locked away somewhere that neither of them could find it for cautious reasons" Dean told him.
"Well then, Cas can go and find that book for us while Charlie and Adam search around the other books, we just need to tell him the location and have Charlie and Adam leave the area while he's searching for it" Sam said.
Cas eyes lit up being a bit surprised he was being suggested for such a task.
"But that book is also in a box with a padded lock" Dean said.
"No problem, you guys, I can break a padded lock" Castiel told them.
"Yeah, Dean this is our only hope and Charlie and decode the writings" Sam added.
Dean sighed feeling a bit reluctant but knew there wasn't too many options right now.
"Okay, but we will need to get a new padded lock" he said.
"No problem" Sam replied.
"Hey, what are the rest of us are going to do, while Castiel is helping the others look through a bunch of books for spells? I mean that could take quite a while and I don't want to be stuck out in here in these woods late at night for a long period of time" said Gwen.
"Nor do I, I mean my legs tired already and don't tell me to wait in the cars, I don't want to wait outside that house for a minute" replied Missouri.
"Me neither, after everything we've been through, I rather get away from that house at least for now" Madame Bess added.
Although Sam, Dean and Ava wouldn't have any problem waiting in the car, they understood the others discomfort and wanted to make their experience less unpleasant after all that has happened.
"We can't go back to my house either with my Aunt Harriett still being cared for, I mean I can't just send the nurse away only for us to leave again after finding what we need, and I have no intention of remaining behind" Missouri said.
"That's okay Missouri, we can all wait back at our motel room" Sam said.
"Motel? A little small but it's better than nothing, I guess" said Madame Bess.
"Perfect then" replied Dean then he turned to Castiel. "
Okay Cas, takes all back to our motel room" Dean told him and then told him the name and of the motel and their room number.
Castiel obeyed as everybody touched him and they all vanished from the woods and was now inside their motel room.
They all sighed of relief as Dean pulled out his iPhone and called Adam.
"Hello Dean, how is it going, any luck?" asked Adam.
"We're all doing okay, but not too much luck. Look Adam, we need you and Charlie's help" Dean told him.
"Me and Charlie's right now?" Adam asked.
"Yeah, where is Charlie, is she with you?" Dean asked.
"We just finished watching the latest Avengers on DVD and Charlie went upstairs to read her favorite fanfiction, she even wants to start writing some fanfic herself when she finds the time" Adam said.
"Never mind that, right now this is important, we need both you and Charlie to look through the books and find any spell on how to unbound a soul to a certain place" Dean said.
"How to unbound a soul to a place, seriously?" asked Adam.
"Yes, that's what I said and we are also going send Castiel over there to get the Book of Damned to see if there anything useful there too" Dean told him.
"Wait, the Book of Damned? I thought you guys said that book was dangerous and nothing but trouble" Adam cried out.
"We did, but we might need to make an exception this time, this is urgent and since we had it stashed where neither you nor Charlie could find it, we will need you to leave the area while he's looks for it, then Charlie can decode the book using that decoder. Sam still has the notes she sent him to decode the decoder in his room in his desk" Dean finished.
"Okay sure, we are on it, but I swear, the crazy stuff you guys end up with sounds like something out a fantasy meets horror book, I should no longer be phased when by now" Adam said.
"Well, it may only get crazier that's the story of all our lives, anyway Cas will let us know immediately when you all found something" Dean said.
"Okey doke, by the way do you want me to get Charlie so you can speak to her?" Adam replied.
"No, that won't be necessary just fill her in when you get off and tell her we all say hello" Dean said.
"Okay and say hello to Sam and the others for me too" said Adam.
"That I will do, I'm sending Cas once I get off, but I will from you soon, by for now and thanks again" Dean told him.
"No problem just all of you get home safe" Adam said.
"We will bye and take care" said Dean.
"You too" replied Adam before hanging up.
Then Dean put his iPhone back in his pants pocket and then turned to Castiel.
"Okay Cas, now you go to the bunker and remember what we said and let me know when you found the book" he told him.
Castiel nodded in agreement. "I'm on it" he said and then vanished.
"Oh, what an evening we had, I got to call the nurse to see how my aunt is doing and let her know we will be out later than expected" said Missouri sitting down on one of the beds while the others later sat down e on either on the other bed or the couch since there was so little room.
Missouri pulled out her phone from her purse and called and briefly talked to the nurse and then to her aunt and after about ten minutes she hung up and sighed.
"I'm glad my aunt is doing better than we are, she's watching her favorite program on TV getting a late-night snack that she likes to have been talking nurse's head off most the night, I almost feel sorry for her, when my aunt goes on one of her stories, she can go on forever" she replied.
Then she turned to everybody else. "Anyway, we got think of what to do if your angel friend or your brother do find that spell. I mean the ghosts are not just going to let us perform the spell if we go back to that house. You saw what they did the last time we were there" she went on.
"Yeah, I know, we have to hold them off with ghost-bullets" Dean said.
"But Dean we left our rifles in the house and the last time I didn't get a chance to use mine because that ghost Crane had me flying all over the attic" Sam said.
"Well, we be more prepared plus use the salt" Dean told her.
"Even if we do manage to unbound there spirits to the house, we still need to find their remains" Gwen said.
"Well, they should be at the cemetery. From what we read, their bodies were never hidden, the police found them in their bedroom" Sam said.
"That cemetery isn't exactly small, we will have to look all over to find them and that could take a while" said Missouri.
"No problem, we will have all night if we have to" Dean replied.
The whole gang waited for over five minutes when Castiel phoned Dean to let him know he found the book and he had Adam and Charlie leave the room as he instructed so they wouldn't see where it was and then Dean instructed him to have Charlie help him decode the written pages to find the spell while Adam checks the other books and then they said their goodbyes. They continued to sit down and wait getting really bored by nobody felt like turning the TV on so they all just talked on about anything and Missouri used the time to continue to catch up with the guys on their half-brother Adam and Charlie whom she never met and their relationships with their girlfriends and all the things she's been up to since she last saw them.
Plus, both Madame Bess and Missouri talked about how they met and some of the missions they worked on together as psychics. They eventually turned on the TV to watch the news to calm some of their nerves when they really started to get bored although there was nothing that was too interesting. About an hour later, they finally heard from Castiel again who called Dean. This time Dean put his phone on speaker so everyone could hear.
"Good news everybody, we finally found a spell in the Book of Damned. Sorry it took a while but Charlie had to go through many of the pages and decode all the writings. Anyway she wrote down the spell and I can read it back to you" he said.
"That's perfect Cas, we know we could count on you guys" Dean said.
Castiel read them the ingredients to the spell that included the remains of the deceased and blood or grace of a supernatural being including an angel. That part was easy since they had Castiel to give some of his grace but in order to find they're remains have go to the cemetery and dig up their graves. The last part of the spell Castiel mentioned was that they would have to perform the ritual using lit candles in the exact spot where they were murdered. However, Missouri could use some of her psychic abilities to find that out and if she couldn't Madame Bess could.
"Cas, we will need your help performing the spell" Dean said.
"No problem, Dean and by the way Adam and Charlie want to say hello" he told them.
Just then they heard Adam's voice.
"Hey, guys just wanted to wish you good luck and this and hope you get back here soon" he told them.
"Yeah, same goes for me, I know you guys can do this, we both know you can" Charlie added.
"We hope so, and thanks again kiddo, couldn't have find what we needed without you all" he told her. "Anytime bitches" Charlie said then Castiel was back on the phone.
"Anyway, I will be joining right way as soon as I get off" he told them.
"Thanks again Cas, you helped us out a lot here" Dean said.
"Anytime" Castiel said.
After getting off the phone, Castiel appeared less than a minute later holding a piece of paper which had the spell written down. Nobody was phased by his reappearance as he just turned to them.
"Okay, what's next?" he asked them.
"Next is we have to go that cemetery and find their graves and dig it up.
"Dig up graves in the cemetery, that sounds so sacrilegious" said Gwen.
"Hey, it may not be pretty but it's necessary" Dean told her.
"Gwen, you, your grandmother and Missouri don't need to go with us, you can wait right here until we get what we need" Sam told her gently.
"Yeah, I agree, you have done a lot, but we can take care of this" Ava added.
"Are you all sure?" asked Madame Bess.
"Yes, we are, you can all help after we dug up the remains" Sam told them.
"Okay, if you wish but good luck in there" replied Madame Bess.
Gwen went up to Sam. "Do be careful there" she told them.
"I will" Sam said and with that they two locked in kisses not caring if everybody else saw.
"Okay, enough of that lovebirds, we need to get moving already" Dean said.
"Yes, dear let the guys do their job" Madame Bess added in as she gently pulled Gwen away.
"Good luck all of you" Missouri told them.
After they gave their goodbyes, Castiel transported Dean, Sam and Ava back to where their cars are still outside the haunted house. They then opened the trunk of the Impala that contained three shovels. They collected the shovels and then Castiel transported them to the cemetery. In order to find their graves faster, they had Castiel look all over the cemetery for the headstones and it only took him less than a minute to find them and he transported them right in front of the headstones of Josiah and Hildagard Crane.
The three didn't waste any time taking the shovels and digging. It was quite tedious and time-consuming as it took them about a half an hour before they were able to reach the caskets. After they were finished, they opened the caskets and saw the skeletal remains of the Cranes. They then gathered the skeletal remains and rolled them up in blankets they had in the trunk as well and then Castiel transported them back to the motel and placed the rolled up remains on the floor.
"Wow, are they really in there?" Gwen asked, looking a bit spooked by it.
"Yeah, but don't worry, their spirits are tied to that house" Sam said.
"Yeah, and are next step is to get more of what we need to perform the spell" Dean said.
"Leave that to me" said Castiel and with that he vanished and returned after getting the rest of what they needed one by one including Candles and matches.
Then they gathered everything and Castiel transported them all back outside the house.
"We need to be in the direct spot where they were murdered to perform the spell" Castiel reminded them.
"Leave that to us" said Madame Bess referring to her and Missouri.
"Just take us to the second floor, we have a hunch that the murder night of happened in their bedrooms as that's where they were found" said Missouri.
With that, Castiel transported them to the second floor as they searched around with Sam and Dean carrying the remains in the rolled-up blankets and Ava carrying a rifle to hold off the ghosts in case they appear.
"Where is their bedroom?" asked Gwen as she kept looking around watching over her shoulder.
"It's in one of these rooms" replied Missouri.
They began searching around, looking through the rooms but within seconds of that, appeared the two ghosts looking at them angrily as if they knew what was happening. Ava fired the weapon at both of them upon sight and the spirits vanished, at least for the time being.
"We got to hurry and find that bedroom" Ava urged.
"Okay, everybody quickly keep looking" Dean ordered.
They kept checking every room as fast as they could hoping to find the master bedroom. They found mainly the extra rooms but Gwen who was a bit ahead of everybody else finally found the master bedroom and she could tell it was master bedroom because it was the only room that had a bathroom. Then she went out of the room and waved to the others.
"Hey, everybody, in here, I found it!" she cried out to them.
They all ran into the room and looked around. The old bedroom still had the master king-sized bed that was old and worn out looking with cobwebs the mattress and sheets removed. The old furniture around also was old and worn out looking with dust and cobwebs almost everywhere.
"Hold it, can you two check to make sure this is the room where they were offed?" Dean asked Madame Bess and Missouri.
Madame Bess went over to the bed and touched it with her hands and closed her eyes and Missouri did the same thing shortly afterwards. Soon, they both appeared to be in a trance which lasted not even a minute. They both then opened their eyes and removed their hands from the bed.
"This is the spot" replied Missouri.
"I could see it all, how they brutally murdered them in their beds while they were terrified. I could feel their fear and the hatred of those people who killed them" Madame Bess said.
"So could I, the horror they went through and for nothing, as they were not guilty of what they were accused of" Missouri said.
"You mean those missing children?" asked Gwen.
Missouri nodded. "Yes, I could feel their anguish of being accused of something they didn't do, besides, I never said that they were guilty of the missing children just accused and condemned for the crime anyway because of what they were" she finished.
"It makes me actually feel sorry for them, this was basically a modern-day witch hunt, being persecuted for witchcraft and just being different out of hatred and fear" Madame Bess added.
"Well, that doesn't change the fact that their spirits are bound to this place, and they were planning on using me and Ava as their meatsuits" Dean replied.
"Anyway, we got to hurry up and perform the spell before they return" Sam added.
So, with that, Dean and Sam dropped their rolled up remains on the bed and unrolled them revealing their skeletons. Before they could take further action the two spirits appeared again in the room almost spooking them. Ava fired the rifle at them both again making them disappear. Then she quickly put down her rifle and grabbed the duffel bag Missouri was holding that contained a container full of salt. She grabbed the salt and started sprinkling it around the bed in a circle, then everybody stood behind the circle where they would be safe from the ghosts. They also laid candles on the bed surrounding the two skeletons and lit them with matches.
After using the other ingredients, Castiel taking the angel blade he had cut his wrists pulling out some of his grace that slid out onto the remains while Sam started chanting in Latin. As they were doing this, two ghosts appeared again but they were unable to pass where they salt was sprinkled around the bed, so they tried using their powers to knock over the candles but the to others managed to thwart that making sure the candles stayed on the bed and Ava fired the rifle at them again causing them to vanish again. The spell was beginning to work as blue glowing clouds poured over the remains and there was a gust of wind causing all the candles to burn out which was part of the spell and soon it was all over just like that.
"Is it finished?" asked Ava.
Sam nodded. "Yeah, I think that's it" he told her.
"It is, I can sense it" replied Missouri.
"Me too," said Madame Bess. "
Hey, let's not dwell on it, let's just hightail it outta here before, Mr. and Mrs. Smith come back" Dean said.
They all agreed, and Sam and Dean quickly rolled up the remains in the blankets they had them in and lifted them up and upon gathering all their things, Castiel transported them back to the motel. He then transported Sam, Dean and Ava to the cemetery right in front of their dugged up graves and then transported himself back to the house as planned to make sure the spirits are gone once their remains are burned. Dean and Sam dumped the remains back in their open caskets and Ava lit a match and set fire to both of their remains which soon started to burn as the fire spread.
Meanwhile, back at the house, Castiel faced off with the two spirits again but before anything happened, their spirits suddenly started to burn at the same time their remains were burning. The remains continued to burn until there was nothing left but ashes and soon the burning spirits vanished before Castiel's eyes gone forever. Sam put out the fire using a large container of water and splashed it over both the remains. The trio then just stood there looking at the remains of the skeletons now just ashes and knowing it was finally over, their mission was accomplished.
