Chapter 47 Confessions and Closure
Sam's eyes lit up as he listened to what Becky just told him as it left him very curious and confused.
"Wait, what, what do you mean you are the reason I'm here?" he asked looking bewildered.
"It's exactly what I said, you and Dean are both here in Pleasantville solving a case because of me" Becky told him.
"But I how, I mean we found…." Sam was about to say before Becky cut him off.
"Found out because your old friend Garth called and told you about an article, he found about recent unsolved killings in this town, right?" she replied.
Sam just nodded his head. "Yeah and…." but Becky cut him off again.
"And that the killings seem like that of a wild animal almost" she finished.
"Yeah but, oh snap, you mean Garth didn't find out about the case from an article he found about from you?" Sam said as his eyes lit up again and he was taken aback for a second time.
"You got it" Becky said seeming relieved of finally getting it all out.
"But how, I mean how did you get in touch with Garth?" Sam asked still confused.
"We've been in touch for some years now" Becky said.
"What?" Sam cried out.
Becky just swallowed again as she was about to explain. "Well, you remember the first time I met Garth after our unfortunate situation" Becky said looking awkwardly and Sam looked uncomfortable right back as neither of them talked out their messed-up marriage and annulment.
"Well anyway, after you guys left, Garth came back sometime later" she went on.
"Wait, what?" Sam replied.
"Garth came back later and even invited out to a diner to eat and just talk and be a sympathetic ear to listen to and he really is a great listener, he never passed any judgment or condemnation and I think he could even kind of relate in a way. Well, anyway he was so nice and understanding and kind of had a crush on me" Becky replied grinning a bit as Sam kind of had a "Oh God" expression on his face.
"He even tried asking me out on a date and as much as was flattered that someone was interested, I turned him down. I just wasn't ready to jump right in a relationship after everything that happened so instead told him we could be friends and we even exchanged numbers which each other. He told me to call him whenever I needed a friend to talk to or if I'm ever an any trouble or there's another you know supernatural incident and we kept in contact for a long time. You know he is quite an interesting person to talk to, has a great sense of humor, can make me laugh and he always listens without any judgment or condemnation no matter what, I could have told him anything" Becky finished.
Sam just still just taken back about all this new knowledge of Becky and Garth that he had to pause for a while before speaking up again.
"Wow, you and Garth are friends and just kept in touch, he never said anything about this to me or Dean" he replied.
"I know, we decided that we would keep our little friendship between us, I mean we were not sure how you guys would take it after everything and besides it was kind of fun having a such a secret just between us two" Becky said.
"So you just stayed and touch all this time?" Sam asked wondering how much she knew about Garth's life now.
"Well, unfortunately, we lost touch a maybe a couple of years ago, he wouldn't answer my calls anymore for the longest time and I thought just tired of me. Then out of nowhere, he called me to apologize for cutting off contact with me saying it wasn't my fault but that something happened in his life that changed everything although he wouldn't go into details, I figured it was something really serious. He said he was no longer a hunter and met someone and is now married even though I got a feeling that wasn't the whole story that there was something he wasn't telling me but he" she told him.
Sam was thinking that this must have been the time Garth became a werewolf and married fellow werewolf Bess and moved in the werewolf community and felt relief that Becky didn't know all of that figuring it's better the less she knows.
"Do you by chance happen to know more of what was going on with Garth then? I don't mean to pry but since he's my friend too I was just wondering" Becky asked.
Sam felt he was put in an awkward situation as he didn't like lying to Becky but what choice did he have. If Garth didn't want her to know, then she won't find out by him.
"I don't know anything you don't. It's like Garth said, he met someone, fell in love and gave up hunting. I assume the big change in his life was he wanting a new life separate from all of that. It happens you know to plenty of hunters in the past" Sam told her.
"Well, anyway, we didn't contact each anymore because, I just thought he was settled in his new life now married and all and then when that Darkness came, when daylight disappeared, Garth was the first person I contacted hoping he would get in touch with you and Dean maybe thinking you guys could help and all, I don't know why I thought that. That seemed even beyond your control, but he said he wasn't able to reach you guys for some reason and then told me not to worry just hang in there and try to get through it and hope for the best. By the time he finally was able to contact you, so much had already happened with me being under the influence of that magic ring" Becky explained.
Sam kept quiet for a while still trying to take all of this in. Then he finally just sighed and spoke up. "Wow, I still can't believe you and Garth became buddies and all and you said you were the reason he contacted us about this case?" he replied.
"Yes, I contacted Garth after all this time when the killings started happening. I didn't at first because I wasn't sure it had anything do with, you know monsters and all since have all the facts with the first killings. None of us did the sheriff' department kept it under wraps at first although word got around about how brutal the attacks were, but the details varied, and people around here tend to spread juicy gossip to make it more juicy plus like others I wondered if it was a serial killer loose in town. But when the killings kept happening and in the same brutal way, that's when I realized it could have been done by a creature and decided to call Garth right away and I told him not to tell you guys that I was the one that tip him off so he decided to come up with the idea of him finding a newspaper article which there was" Becky finished.
"Wow, that does make sense" Sam told her.
"I hope you're not angry about all of this or at least be mad at me not Garth, it was more of my idea to keep our friendship a secret" Becky said with a worried look on her face. Sam just kind of sighed.
"Seriously Becky, I'm not mad at anyone, I'm over it. I was just taken aback that you and Garth had a private friendship that we knew nothing about, but Garth could do what he wants. Who he decides to be friends with is none of our business really" Sam told her.
"Really?" Becky asked a bit amazed.
"Yeah, your friendship is between you two besides we have more important things to worry about right now" Sam said.
Becky still had an awkward look on her face like she wanted to say something but was hesitant.
"You know Sam, there is something I always wanted to say to you if I ever saw you again that I never got a chance to say the last time we saw each other" she told him.
"What is it Becky?" Sam wondered.
"That I owe you an apology, well two apologies actually" she said.
"Becky really, you don't have to" Sam told her.
"Yes, I think I do" Becky said as she swallowed then went on. "First one is that I'm sorry I gave you that love potion to get you to fall in love with me so I can get you to marry me then hitting you over the head and tying you up at my family's cabin so I can get more of the love potion and was about to force it on you. I know that wasn't right, but at the time I was extremely desperate to finally find love and was getting tired of failing in the past and just wanted my happily ever after so much to the point of obsession that I let Guy, that crossroad demon convince me to use it on you and wanted to believe everything he told me. I was so willing to go to any lengths to get it that was how obsessed I was, and I really believed you were the one, my perfect Mr. Right and thought what I felt for you was true love and I totally took away your free will because whatever you were feeling didn't come from heart and wasn't real. It all came from under some spell and that was totally messed up" she said in almost in one sentence.
She then stopped for a couple of seconds let out a sigh and swallowed again.
"When I was under the spell of that ring in New York and wasn't acting in my own free will, it made me think of what it must have been like for you. I was finally able to completely comprehend what I put you through not that I wasn't already sorry for what I did I was, but I think I could totally picture myself in your shoes after that experience" she replied then paused for a couple of seconds before she went on. "You know looking back now about all that thinking I thought you were my true love, I realized you really weren't at all. I mean, I know I wasn't in love with you just your character in the books, and I was in love or obsessed with the idea of being in love.
Now that I think about it with a more clear mind, I realized that I may know details about you and your life in the books, I never really knew you as a person. I mean, I may now your birthday and where you born and the things that happened, but I don't know everything about your life or just you outside the books, and that means that I don't really know you as just a living breathing person, not Sam the hunter or the little brother but just Sam the guy and you really don't know me outside of Becky the fangirl" she finished.
"Look Becky…" Sam tried to say but Becky cut him off.
"The second thing I need to apologize for is putting you in danger. I mean because of me you and Dean nearly got killed with Guy and those demons almost killing you two. I mean, sure I saved you from that demon, but it wasn't for me in the first place you wouldn't need me to save you, my actions put both you and Dean in danger and I'm just truly sorry about everything I did. For what it's worth, I swear that out of all the crazy things I ever did, that was the first time I did something that totally crossed the line, and I still can't believe I did all that just to have someone love me, I make no excuses but I'm not that person anymore.
I'm no longer obsessed of finding love or obsessed over you that way, I mean it's been a long time I've even been on the message boards of the other Supernatural fans or attended any of the conventions and I left all the books behind when you helped me get out of New York, although I read all the books and even the unpublished stories anyway but still don't want to be that crazy obsessed fangirl again" Becky said almost all in one sentence looking a bit relieved that she got that all off her chest yet worried at the same time.
Sam just paused for a few seconds before he finally spoke up.
"Well, Becky that was nice that you apologized and takes a lot to admit when messed up big and I'm touched that you said all that, but it wasn't really necessary. You see I had forgiven you a long time ago. I've long been over all of that" he told her.
"Really?" Becky asked almost not convinced.
"Really, hey yeah you made a big mistake but to be honest, I'm not in so much position to condemn you. You see, me and Dean made our fair share of mistakes, or I say crossing the line and I'm not talking about the stuff in those books. I mean we continued crossing the line and making mistakes over stuff after those books were made. Things we truly regret and because of it, people got hurt so we can kind of relate to there. Believe me we are in no position to condemn you" Sam told her.
Becky's eyes lit up at what Sam told her.
"Really, you and Dean doing something really terrible? I can't picture that, I mean I know about the apocalypse thing and the incident with the nurse, but you were tricked and Ruby that demon totally tricked and manipulated you, I always thought you weren't yourself under her influence and with the drinking of demon's blood and all but can't imagine you and Dean doing more terrible stuff" Becky said.
"Well, we thought we were justified at the time, like the ends justify the means, we felt what we were doing was for the right reasons although that wasn't always true. Sometimes it was for our own selfish reasons" Sam said.
Becky just sighed at the thought. "Still can't believe it, even though I'm actually a bit relieved to know that I'm not the only one to really screw up, I still can't picture the mighty Winchesters falling from grace" she tells him.
"That's funny, I recall you or I say Rebecca could believe we could cross the line she let sure let me know" Sam said with a bit of a grin.
"Oh, yeah, Rebecca. Well, Rebecca said a lot of stuff I that wasn't me even if some of what she said did come from deep down. She liked to say a lot of stuff just to get to you" said Becky.
"Well, she wasn't wrong about the many times we crossed the line" Sam told her.
"You know, sometimes, I still feel like a part of her is still in me, at least very deep down" Becky told him.
"Has she ever come back at any time?" Sam asked concerned.
"No, nothing like that but, it seems like she hasn't entirely gone away either. I mean there are times when I have an urge to get a beer even though I normally don't drink beer. Or the times, I like to really tell someone off and I have. It's like I still have some of her attitude within me. I even find myself listening to the type of music only she would listen to, but I would never have in a million years" Becky said.
"Well, as long as Rebecca isn't coming up in the surface, I think you're good just don't do anything to wild and crazy like date bikers" Sam joked.
"Oh, shut up" Becky said laughing a bit.
"Anyway, I'm happy you got more clarity and I would like you to just get to know me as just Sam the guy outside of the books and I wouldn't mind getting to know you as just Becky outside of the fangirl but just plain Becky, I wouldn't mind being her friend" Sam told her.
"Friends, really?" Becky replied flattered.
Sam just nodded. "Yeah really I would l like us to be friends" he told her.
"Well, so would I, I definitely could use some more friends" Becky said as they both smiled at each other finally having the closure they needed.
"But you know Becky, I have to admit that a part of me was flattered when you were fangirling me" Sam told her.
"Oh really now?" Becky said a bit sarcastic.
"Yeah really. It was kind of nice that someone preferred being a Sam's girl over a Dean's girl. I assumed Dean would get most of the fangirls, I know he did" Sam replied.
"Well now, not so fast, maybe I you know could switch sides and became a Dean's girl now" Becky replied teasingly.
"Really, a Dean's girl?" Sam asked playing along.
"Yes, I mean there is a reason Dean got most of the fangirls, something about that brooding sexy bad boy, that makes of girls swoon" Becky told him still teasing.
They both paused for a moment than Becky just gave a quick laugh.
"Hey, just kidding there, I always be a Sam's girl at heart, in a more healthy way that is. I mean I know you brother is nice to look at but personally between you and me, I always thought you were hotter" she told him.
"Wow, you know I'm going to let him know you said that" Sam told her jokingly.
"Good, I want him to know, I always thought your brother had a bit of an ego where women were concerned" Becky said.
"Yeah, well he's toned down a bit especially now that he's a one-woman man" Sam told her.
"Really, Dean a one-woman man, I would never have thought that, I always took him as a sort of a Casanova, can't picture him settling with one woman" Becky said.
"Well, anything can be possible, it's even happened to me too" Sam said.
"You, for real, you found yourself someone to settle down with too?" Becky said a bit taken aback.
Sam nodded his head. "Yeah, you can say that although we are not walking down the aisle yet or planning to anytime soon but yeah, I think she's the one" he said.
Becky's eyes lit up in shock. "Wow, never pictured you finding someone to settle down with either. I always thought you two guys were too devoted as hunters to make room for anybody to tell you the truth" she said.
"Well, we were for a very long time. Even believed that we couldn't have any room for that special person in our lives because of the we live and saw it as a sacrifice we had to make as hunters. But I see now that doesn't have to be true, that there is enough room for someone to share a life with while doing what we do. Of course, she has to be a special type of person and they both are, I mean Dean's partner is a hunter too" Sam told her.
"Well, that's great at least you got to find true love while doing your hunting thing, I admit I'm quite jealous, that is of you being able to find true love and still be hunt around the country while I'm still having found anyone yet, which is what I mean" she said quite awkwardly not wanting to Sam to misinterpret what she meant.
"I get it Becky, but I wouldn't worry, someday you'll meet the right guy when he comes along" he told her.
"You know you said that when we annulled our marriage. You don't have to humor me; I may never meet anybody and I'm willing to start to accept that reality. Not everybody is meant to find their true love" she said with a sigh.
"I used to believe that too, Becky but that's doesn't have to be the case. We're all capable of finding that right person if we truly want it and I don't believe you are any more doomed than I am or Dean. It may take some time maybe a year or few years down the line but maybe you're meet that right guy one day, just don't give up" Sam told her.
Becky just smiled.
"And for the record, I wasn't humor you when I said all that years ago. I meant it" he finished.
"Thanks Sam" Becky just said feeling better now.
Sam suddenly remembered about the suppose noise outside and wanted to get back what was important.
"You know, we haven't heard any sounds outside in a while now. Maybe whatever is out there is now gone" he told her.
Becky suddenly remembered why she called Sam over in the first place started to look worried again after feeling calm and secure after her talk with Sam.
"You think so?" she asked worrisome. Sam just nodded his head.
"Yeah at least I hope so" he said.
Just then Sam iPhone starts to ring and when he checks it, he sees it's a call from Dean, so he quickly answers it. "Hey what's up Dean?" he asks him.
"Hey Sam, looks like plans have change" said Dean's voice.
"What do you mean, what happened?" asked Sam.
"Well, I never took my eyes off the window when I finally saw all those bikers get on the bikes and take off" Dean told him.
"What, all of them, that doesn't seem like their regular routine why change it now?" Sam asked.
"I don't know, hope there are not on to us, but anyway, I'm pretty sure they're all heading to that bar." Dean said.
"Okay, wait for me, I'll be over there, and we can both head to that bar to keep an eye on them after dropping Becky off" Sam said.
"Oh, speaking of the devil, how's your little ex doing anyway, are you both okay, I was getting pretty worried when you didn't call" Dean said.
"We're both doing okay, it seemed like someone or something was trying to get in and Becky said she saw a figure but couldn't make out a face but whatever that was, has stopped now" Sam said.
"What do you think it was, it couldn't have been one of them since I just saw all five of them leave" Dean wondered.
"I don't know, maybe there is another member of the pack we don't know about but whatever it was just stopped, and I think it went away although I don't know when it will be back" Sam said.
"Well, just don't like your guard down and please hurry up and get back here both of you and please be careful" Dean said.
"I'm always am. Anyway, I'm one my way right now" Sam said.
They two quickly said their goodbyes before hanging up and then he turned to Becky.
"Okay, we gotta go right now, need to get back to the motel so me and Dean can head to that bar where those bikers are headed to right now" Sam said.
"What did you mean about dropping me off?" Becky asked. "That I'll drop you off at the motel room and then me and Dean will go that bar. Don't you worry, you'll be safe at the motel room, and we will trail those bikers" Sam told her.
But Becky didn't look to happy about that plan.
"No Sam, I can't do that!" she cried out firmly.
