Who should Naruto's mentor be?
Kushina? Shizune? Someone I am not considering?
Tsunade slumped down, looking at her idiot teammate who was stoically gazing at her. "So?"
She sighed. "Naruto died... you said you took him to a base of Orochimaru's, that he was bitten with an Unstable Curse Mark. It was a toxic mixture that destabalized the seal, tore his chakra coils apart so badly that he could not recover. Naruto lost the Kyuubi and died fully... He was dead for ten minutes, but I remembered that he was born to Kushina, the previous Jinchuuirki. His cells are infused with that power, the power of the Fox... I tapped into that and revived him and basically recreated his chakra coils. He is starting from scratch, he is basically starting out if he never had the Fox before."
The Older man sighed. "Well, I guess our training trip is cancelled."
She frowned. "Why?" She wanted to pummel her friend, Naruto deserved better.
"Check out Naruto's records, without the Fox, the boy is nothing. He didn't even know what Chakra was he had to be told by Kakashi himself. The kid was never going to be much and I cannot waste my time training him in everything when he doesn't even have the Fox to fall back on."
He was gone before she could punch him through the wall... but as she stared at the puff of smoke he left behind She could not help but wonder... "What was he talking about? Shizune!" Her assistant and niece popped up, looking furiously at where Jiriaya was. "Get me Naruto's records and... and set up a meeting with the Council."
Two hours Later, the meeting was started, and Tsunade was stunned when Shikaku started it by saying. "Naruto Uzumaki was never meant to be a ninja. He could not and likely still cannot explain what Chakra is. His incompetence is profound, he would only disgrace the village without the Fox to fall back on."
She cringed, but Shizune stepped forward. "And how is that his fault when no one helped him? No family, no kin, no friends!" They all cringed at that, reminded that Naruto had been screwed over by the world, but Shizune was not done. "Naruto saved you all from the Ichibi Shukaku, he helped liberate the Land of Snow and Waves! He deserves a chance to show that he can recover without the Fox. Maybe this village will actually give him a chance."
They all looked at each other, with the Elders saying. "And who will train him, you Shizune? You are already working with Tsunade as her seceratary as well as in the Hopstial and you taking on mission. What time do you have?"
Shizune growled. "I will can still make shadow clones, I can help at least guide him to a start. Lady Tsunade is acting Hokage, leads the Hospital and is training two skilled genin into apprenticeship. I CAN do this."
Warmth filled Tsunade, seeing Shizune finally standing up for someone that wasn't Tsunade herself.
"Very well, Shizune you will be Naruto's mentor." Tsunade said. "But I have to say, until we can asses if he can even be a ninja... he will be considered off Duty until he can showcase that he is more than the moron everyone seems to think he is."
And that was that, Naruto was saved... but, for how long?
