With a look of annoyance Elijah roughly grabs Elena by the arm then turns to me with his other had outstretched.
"Come now young one, I don't want to have to hurt your friend."
Shit, here I was hoping he would forget about me.
Nodding slightly, I quickly make my way to him and take his outstretched hand. He quickly leads Elena and I out of the room making our way towards the front door. Once we reach the foyer what I can only guess are Damon and Stefan and super speeding around us. Elijah pushes Elena and I towards Rose and speeds halfway up the stairs. As he leaves a feel someone else grab me and speed me off. Once we stop, I notice Stefan is the one who grabbed Elena and I.
From the distance I hear Elijah yells "Excuse me. To whom it may concern, you're making a great mistake if you think that you can beat me. You can't. Do you hear that? I repeat, you cannot beat me. So, I want the girls, I'm gonna count to three or heads will roll. Do we understand each other?"
As Elijah is speaking Stefan nods to Elena and hands her something round.
She quickly runs out towards the stairs and says, "I'll come with you, just please don't my friends, they just wanted to help me out."
Without much warning a small explosion is heard along with a roar of pain. Stefan and I run towards the sounds and Stefan begins shooting at Elijah while I check on Elena
. "Are you okay?" I ask her. She quickly gives me a nod as we hear a tumble down the stairs.
Looking over we see Stefan on the ground with Elijah standing over him.
Quick. I need a spell. What would Bonnie do?
Before I can think of a spell to use Damon appears and rams a huge looking stick into Elijah, pinning him to a nearby wall. I help Elena stand and she quickly runs down the stairs to Stefan.
We quickly left the building we were being held in; as the brothers ushered us into their nearby car.
"Elena are you okay" asks Stefan once we are settled.
Giving him a nod in affirmation he lets out a deep sigh. "What did they tell you Elena? What did they want?"
"Well, they seemed to want us both, Stefan." Answers Elena.
Jumping into the conversation, Damon says "Clearly, but what about you Elena?"
In this moment I knew I was a mere shadow in the eyes of the Salvatore brothers. Keeping my mouth shut I lean back into my seat and close my eyes.
Is this how it is going to be. Elena comes first to everyone.
Once I get dropped off at home, I run upstairs to talk with Tyler to tell him everything that happened.
At least he cares about me. Wait. Where is he? I guess I am alone once again.
Taking a seat on my bed I quickly lay back and wonder how everything went to shit before I find myself falling asleep.
Blinking my eyes open I find myself sanding in a black never-ending space covered in a low fog.
"Hello Love." Sounds a familiar voice from behind me. I quickly turn around and find my nightly visitor smirking at me with his arms in his pockets.
"What do you want from me?" I ask.
Slowly, he nods and takes a small step towards me "I want whatever you will give me."
"What does that even mean? I don't even know your name?" I exclaim as I take a step back but as I do, he matches me step for step.
"STOP following me and tell me something!"
Stopping his steps he tilts his head towards me "you, Annastacia, are the one made for a Mikaelson"
I rub my hands over my head as I say "So I have heard from someone named Elijah! Does not mean I have any idea what that actually means!"
"Ah Elijah." He says as he starts to pace in front of me.
Suddenly I feel my body start to feel light, I am waking up.
"I am waking up. Will you at least tell me your name?" as my vision fades to black and I feel as though I am floating his voices rings out.
"You can call me Nik, Love. And know that I am looking for you."
The next day I get a phone call from Elena.
"Hey Annie. Want to skip school and join Caroline and I on a discovery mission?"
"Depends on what a discovery mission is Elena?" Letting out a laugh she tells me that they are going to the tomb to speak with Katherine and see what she knows about Klaus.
"Tell you what Elena. I will go but I get to ask some questions of my own."
"Of course, Annie! Care and I will be by in about 10 minutes to pick you up." Hanging up my phone I can't help but wonder, what comes next in this crazy world.
The three of us make our way through the woods towards the tomb holding Katherine.
"Tell everyone I wasn't feeling well and I went home from school." Says Elena to Care.
"And just say you don't know where I am Care, it will be easier."
Nodding her head and letting out a sigh Caroline shares "I can't believe I'm agreeing to this. I'm a terrible liar."
Letting of a quick laugh Elena says "You will be fine Care keep Stefan busy. I don't want him to know what I'm up to."
"Oh, so not just a discovery mission but a secret discovery mission. Things just got interesting Elena." As I speak, they both shoot me looks of exasperation.
"Look Stefan is going to see right through me" says Caroline.
"Caroline, as my friend, do you promise or not?" looking shocked Caroline responds "You had to break out the girlfriend code. Okay. I promise."
Turing towards Elena I ask, "Why don't you want Stefan to know?"
"Because he would never be okay with me doing this."
Nodding in agreement I add "makes sense with how protective he is of you."
As I speak, we find ourselves in front of the tomb entrance and stop in front of the door. "Are you two sure you want to do this?"
Nodding in affirmative Elena adds "Yes, I'm sure. She's the only one who knows the truth about Klaus. The only one who can tell me how to stop him."
"But you're asking for the truth from someone who's probably never giving it. Are you sure about this?"
"Yeah. I can't just sit back and wait. I have to know, Caroline. Please." Caroline lets out a deep sigh then moves towards the tomb door and opens it with her vampire strength before leaving.
"Are you ready for this Elena?" I ask.
"Yes, we need to know who he is and what he wants."
"Okay, lets do this."
Nodding towards me Elena looks around with worry before saying "Katherine?"
Slowly a withered form stumbles towards the entrance, Katherine.
"Hello Elena and friend. You come to watch me wither away?"
Moving closer towards the seal Elena says. "I brought you some things."
Giving Elena a smirk Katherine leans against the tomb wall and responds "You came to bribe me? What is it that you want?"
"I want you to tell us about Klaus."
"I see you have been busy. But why us? What is she doing here?"
Stepping closer and beside Elena I add "Apparently Elijah thinks I am important for something."
Katherine lets out a small laugh and says "That you are."
Jumping into the conversation Elena pulls an old book from her bag and says "I also brought you this. It's your family history. It says in here that the family line ended with you. Obviously, that's not true."
"You think that if you brought me some family keepsake that I'd open up?" Responds Katherine with narrowed eyes.
"Well, I also brought you this." As she speaks Elena pulls out a water bottle full of blood.
Almost simultaneously Katherine vamp speeds towards us and smashes into the tomb seal. Jumping back slightly I notice Elena didn't even flinch.
In a mocking tone she adds "You don't look so good. How long before your body shuts down? 10, 20 years? It must be painful to desiccate and mummify. I can't even imagine."
Resigned, Katherine slowly takes a seat and looks towards Elena expectedly. Elena slowly takes the bottle of blood and pours a small amount into a cup and uses a near by stick to push it past the seal towards Katherine. Katherine takes the cup and drinks from it and almost instantly color returns to her skin.
Nodding towards Elena, Katherine tells her "You have the Petrova fire."
"More blood?" Asks Elena as Katherine passes the cup back to her. As this is happening, I take a seat beside Elena and get comfortable.
"It's a long story, Klaus and I. It goes all the way back to England, 1492, after I left Bulgaria. Or was thrown out."
"Thrown out?" asks Elena.
"My family, your true ancestors, they disowned me. My indiscretions were not tolerated at that time. I had a baby out of wedlock. The shame."
"It was kept secret?"
"Mhmm. My baby was given away. I was banished to England and I had to learn to adjust. So, I quickly became English. It was there that I caught the eye of a nobleman named Klaus. I was taken with him at first, till I found out what he was and what he wanted from me. And then I ran like hell."
This is going to be a long discovery mission.
As we listen to Katherine telling her story Elena passes another cup to blood to her and asks "What does the Petrova blood line have to do with Klaus?"
Crushing the cup after she finishes her drink Katherine says "It's really tedious but... The curse was bound by the sacrifice of Petrova blood. Witches are crafty with their spells. The doppelgänger was created as a way to be able to undo the spell. Once the doppelgänger reappeared, the curse can be broken."
"So, you ran before he killed you?" responds Elena.
"Something like that."
In shock with the revelation Elena exclaims "You killed yourself?!"
Nodding and giving Elena a smirk Katherine responds "Klaus needed a human doppelgänger. As a vampire, I was no longer any use to him."
"But it didn't work. You didn't really escape; you've been running from Klaus ever since." States Elena.
"I underestimated his spirit for vengeance but living in a suitcase is better than dying so you can have your blood spilled over some silly little rock. What's wrong? Afraid I'm right? You don't want to die? There's another way out."
Looking towards Elena with an unknown look in her eye Katherine scratches her wrist with her nail and offers her blood to Elena with an extended arm.
"Better hurry. Your opportunity is going, going, going and gone. I made the other choice."
"So how much of your little story is true?" asks Elena after Katherine tells us about Rose and Trevor.
"I have no reason to lie, Elena. I have no reason to do anything but sit here and read and rot." States Katherine as she continues to flip through her family book.
"Okay, assuming it's even partially true, that's the reason why you came back isn't it? Because you wanted to be the one to hand me over to Klaus."
"500 years on the run, I figured maybe he'd be willing to strike a deal."
"So, you got Mason Lockwood to find you the moonstone."
Uncle Mason was way more involved than I thought, I think as Elena and Katherine continue talking.
"It's not just me or the stone, is it? Otherwise, there would be no reason to trigger Tyler Lockwood's werewolf curse."
Cutting them both off I ask "What do you mean Tye triggered his curse?"
Sending a glance my way Elena responds "Annie… I thought you knew?"
Shaking my head in disbelief I say "No. I had no idea. Why wouldn't he tell me?"
"How sentimental. Are the baby wolves not as close as they think they are."
As I go to respond to Katherine she cuts me off "Besides Elena, better you die than I."
She says before standing and walking back into the tomb.
"Wait what about my questions" I yell into the tomb.
In response I hear an echo of laughter then silence. Turning to Elena I say "You said I could ask questions Elena!"
"I am sorry Annie I don't control Katherine. I promise we will somehow get answers for you!" Shaking my head I turn to leave just as I spot Stefan behind us with his arms crossed.
