Chapter 19

I don't wanna lose control
Nothing I can do anymore
Tryin' every day when I hold my breath
Spinnin' out in space pressing on my chest
I don't wanna lose control

Control – Zoe Wees

"Yep. Everybody's dead." Announces Damon to Bonnie, Jeremy and I as he crosses the threshold of the Martins apartment.

"We should pack up the grimoires. They spent years collecting them. I wanna make sure they're safe." Adds Bonnie as she follows behind Damon.

As we enter the main living room, I notice Damon standing by Luca's dead body. "You know, we could just get another match and cremate him."

With a snap to her tone Bonnie responds "Don't be disrespectful. Not to him."

Putting his hands up in defense Damon says "Fine. I'll bury him."

As I walk around the room looking at the bookshelves, I hear Jeremy ask, "What exactly are we looking for?"

"According to Luka's dad, one of these contains a spell that'll let me harness the energy that's left behind when a witch dies violently." says Bonnie as she walks up beside me and points towards the grimoires on the bookshelf.

"I didn't know you and father witch were so close." questions Damon.

"We weren't but when he gave me my powers back, he gave me a message. If I can find the spot in town, where the old Salem witches were burned, I can harness their energy to use when I need it." responds Bonnie as gestures to me to start pulling grimoires off the shelf.

As the two of us bring some of the grimoires to a nearby table Damon says "Great. We'll have to put that on our list of things to do today. Harness ancient dead-witch power."

Turning to Damon with disbelief on her face Bonnie questions "You know where the witches were burned?"

Looking at Bonnie, Damon gives her a smirk "Did I forget to mention that?"

Once all the Grimoires are placed on the table Jeremy asks "Are we gonna have to read through every one of these books till we find the right spell?"

"God this is going to take forever" I whine as Bonnie shakes her head.

"Not exactly" she tells us. Bonnie slowly raises her hands above the books and closes her eyes. As she does the books start to shake slightly until one raises up a gently hovers about the rest.

Bonnie opens her eyes "It's this one." "

Couldn't have done that before we moved all the grimoires, huh, Bonnie?" I sarcastically announce as Bonnie rolls her eyes at me.

After leaving the Martin apartment the four of us are led into the woods by Damon.

"Is this the spot Emily Bennett was killed, too?" Inquires Jeremy.

"Founders thought it was poetic burning her where the other witches burned."

"How do you know where the witches were burned?" Bonnies asks Damon.

"Cause I tried to save her. Emily was just my key to getting Katherine back before I knew what a nasty little bitch Katherine was." He responds.

As we continue to walk, I notice a house in the near distance surrounded by trees. As we make our way up the steps Jeremey asks, "You sure it's the right place?"

Nodding Damon leads us into the old house. As I come to the doorway I feel a push against me. Forcing my way through the force I find myself unable to go past the doorway.

"Uh Bonnie?" I say as I look towards the others to see Damon burning "Oh, my ring's not working. Do something." He groans out.

As Bonnie concentrates, Damon can suddenly move, and voices start to ring in my head.

Siphon. Abomination of nature. Leave us. GET OUT.

A cry escapes me as I lean forward in pain and cover my ears. Just as quickly as the voices started, they end. I open my eyes and find Bonnie standing in front of me.

"I don't think the witches like you two being here." Says Bonnie as she glances between Damon and I.

Giving her a nod Damon says, "We are gonna go wait outside." Vamping towards me I find myself swept up and taken over the nearby rock by the edge of the tress surrounding the house.

I take a seat on the rock and announce, "I guess I am destined for witches to hate me, dead or alive."

Sitting outside with Damon is... Interesting to say the least. After watching him throw what I would call a temper tantrum at Emily for not letting him inside he seems to have calmed down, slightly.

"Seriously Damon, it is not that big of a deal, just sit down. Let Bonnie and Jeremy do what they need to do so that we can get out of here."

Glancing towards me Damon scowls and adds "Have fun being alone out here." He then vamps off leaving me to my own thoughts on a stupid rock.

Hurry up Bonnie this rock is uncomfortable, and I am ready to go home.

After a few minutes, more like twenty, Bonnie and Jeremy emerge from the house chatting. Jumping off my rock I make my way over to them.

"So? Did it work?" I ask them.

Nodding towards me Bonnie turns back to Jeremy and says "It's a lot of power to have access to. They're just telling me to be careful with it."

"Well, exactly how much power can you draw from a hundred dead witches?" He responds. With a sigh Bonnie closes her eyes. All at once leaves begin to fly around and the sky turns black with thunder and lightning.

Putting a hand on her shoulder Jeremy gently says "Bonnie?"

As he does the weather goes back to normal and Bonnies tells us "The answer to your question is: a lot."

That night I find myself alone in my room, staring at my phone.

I wish I could talk to Tye about all this and see how he is doing with being a wolf.

Without thinking too much into it I dial his phone number, instead of Jules.

I just want to hear his voice even if it is through a voicemail.

Needless to say, listening to his voice makes me miss him even more.

Why did one of the few people who actually care about me have to leave.

"Why are you running love?" a voice rings out behind me.

Wait what... running? I ask myself. Looking around I notice tall looming trees surrounding me.

"You should stop before you tire yourself out love." Without warning my body jerks to a stop. I take a few gasping breaths as I turn to face the voice.

"Nik" I breathe out.

Giving me a smile Nik takes a few steps towards he and reaches out with his hand to gently cup my check. "Hello, love."

A deep blush works its way up my neck onto my face. I try to take a step back, but he follows, keeping his hand on my face.

"Can I as you a question Nik?" After a few long moments he nods and gives me another gentle smile.

Taking his response as a yes I inhale deeply before asking "What does made for a Mikaelson mean?"

A contemplative looks flashes across his face as he continues to stare at me.

"I asked Elijah but he wouldn't tell me anything other than my life is entwined with the Mikaelsons. But how and why. What does it all m-."

I am forced to stop rambling as Nik's hand moves from my check to over my mouth. I glance up at him and see a grin taking over his face.

"I can't tell you too much more right now love. What I can tell you is that you will see me very soon and when I come, I am taking you with me."

"But how will you find me?" I ask with wonder.

"What makes you think I haven't already?"

"Bu-"

"History is a fascinating subject is it not?" He asks me. Confusion crosses my face, and I start to ask him what that means a loud sound breaks through and I am swept into the land of the awake.

Blinking my eyes open I think to myself, why the hell is history a fascinating subject? Slowly I sit up in my bed and glance at my phone to see a text from Bonnie.

Huh, the brothers gave Elena the deed to their house, things are never dull around here.

Another boring day at school beings. Making my way to history I follow Bonnie and find a seat beside her. On Bonnies other side sits Elena with Stefan close by. As we settle Elena flashes Bonnie and I a poster of the upcoming 60's dance. I see Bonnie give Elena a wide grin and nod of her head while I shake mine, not a chance.

I am brought out of my thoughts by Alaric entering the classroom, "Hello, class. What are we learning today?"

As the majority of the class looks around in mild confusion, one of the girls in the front, Dana, responds "With the decade dance tonight, we've been covering the sixties all week."

"Right. The sixties." Alaric nods as he stares at Elena before glancing towards me. As he glances towards me everything else begins to melt away "The, uh, ahem..." Alaric breaks me from my trance as I shake my head.

What the hell was that?

Looking back towards Alaric I see he has turned to face the board and has written the 60's on it as he talks "The sixties. I wish there was something good I could say about the sixties, but...Actually, they kind of sucked. Except for the Beatles, of course. They made it bearable. Uh, what else was there? The Cuban missile thing, the...we walked on the moon. There was Watergate."

Jumping in Elena announces "Watergate was the seventies, Ric. I-I mean, Mr. Saltzman."

Nodding Alaric responds "Right. It all kind of mushes together up here, the sixties, seventies. Thank you, Elena." Oddly enough the rest of the class passes by without incident or more weirdness from Alaric.

At lunch I find myself making my way over to the table Bonnie and Elena are sitting at when Dana approaches me.

"Hey Annie. I just wanted to pass a message along to you that this really hot guy is excited to share a dance with you tonight." Dana tells me with a grin.

I give Dana a look of surprise as I announce, "I won't be going to the dance Dana, looks like he will have to find someone else."

She gives me a look of disappointment and says, "awe that's too bad he seemed really excited for it."

As I give her a nod, she seems to take the hint and walks away in the direction of Bonnie and Elena. Weird.

Following her path towards the two I hear Dana tell them "Hey, Elena, there you are. Okay. This is going to sound freaky, but this totally hot guy just asked me to ask you if you're going to the dance tonight."

As Bonnie responds I take a seat at the table across from them. "Tell him she has a boyfriend."

"You could at least meet him. He'll be at the dance tonight. Look for him. His name is Klaus."

"I'm sorry, what did you just say?" says Elena with fear in her voice.

"His name's Klaus. I know the name's stupid, but I swear he's hot."

"Wait Dana is this the same guy you told me about?" I ask her.

Shaking her head she disagrees "No his name was Nik."

I go to ask another question when Bonnie asks "Where is Klaus? Is he here?"

"I don't know."

"She's been compelled."

"But he wants to know if you'll save him the last dance. How cute is that" Ends Dana before she turns and walks away.

The three of us glance at each other and I announce "Looks like I will be at this stupid dance after all, huh?"

"So we go to the dance, we find him." Announces Damon to Stefan, Bonnie, Elena, and I who are standing in the Salvatore living room.

"Really? How are we going to do that? We don't even know what he looks like." Asks Stefan with exasperation clear in his voice.

"Something tells me he's not going to be sixteen and pimply." Laughs Damon in response.

"He could be anywhere at any time. He compelled somebody at school."

Looking over at Elena and Bonnie, Stefan continues "I guess it's not as safe as you guys thought, huh?"

A knock sounds out and Alaric walks into the living room "There you are." announces Damon.

"Sorry I'm late" Alaric tells us as we nod towards him in greeting.

"Hey, I need you to put me down as a chaperone at the dance tonight. Klaus made his first move." Damon tells Alaric.

"Okay, so we find him and then what, hmm? What's our plan of attack?" asks Elena as she makes her way to stand closer to Stefan.

"Me. I'm the plan. He has no idea how much power I can channel. If you can find him, I can kill him." Announces Bonnie with a determined look on her face.

"That's not going to be that easy. I mean, he is the biggest, baddest vampire around." Alaric points out.

I give a nod in agreement as Damon says "Alaric has a point. I mean, what if he..." Damon cuts off as he suddenly rushes at Bonnie who uses her magic to toss him across the room. A laugh bubbles in my throat and spills out.

From across the room I see Damon send me a glare and tense up "Try it and I will fry your brain Damon." I announce to him as he stands.

"Well, I was impressed." Interjects Stefan.

"It doesn't matter if he's an Original. I can take down anyone who comes at me. I can kill him, Elena. I know I can." Bonnie tells us as she glances around the room making eye contact with everyone.

This dance is going to suck.
