The Stables, Stormfly's Pen

Astrid has her packed bag as well as a pouch she uses to keep her money hanging off her belt. Once she reaches Stormfly's pen she opens the door wider. Stormfly goes over to Astrid without hesitation nuzzling her rider. Astrid pats her dragon's nose and even places a kiss on her snout. A moment later Astrid pats Stormfly's leg and her dragon kneels down. Astrid attaches her bag to Stormfly's saddle.

Once her travel bag is secured Astrid then leads Stormfly out quietly of the stables as she does not want to alert the others of her departure. When they leave the stables, Astrid can see that the sun is beginning to set.

So, if she is going to leave this place behind her she would need to leave now. She pets Stormfly's head once more saying, "Just you and me girl." Stormfly squeaks and kneels down again but this time Astrid climbs onto Stromfly's back. Once she does and has a good grip on the saddle Stormfly walks out of the stables, taking a few steps away from the building Stormfly takes off.

Snotlout and Heather, having seen her leave, have followed her out but kept away out of sight. While watching Astrid leave, Snotlout asks while crossing his arms, "How mad do you think Hiccup will be once he knows Astrid is gone?" Heather answers softly, "He will probably command us to tell him where she went then command us to clean every inch of the bar. Using nothing but rags and a bucket."

Snotlout shakes a bit at the thought but knows Hiccup won't be too hard on them. Then again, he may since they did just watch his mate leave with the intent on never returning. So the pair go back inside the bar waiting for Hiccup to come back from his mandatory hunt.

Midnight, with Stormfly and Astrid

The pair have been flying for a few hours and now are getting ready to land for a rest. Once they do, Astrid dismounts Stormfly and starts to set up camp for them. Once she has the firing going Stormfly relaxes next to the fire while Astrid leans against her dragon. Before they settled in, Astrid had taken off Stormfly's saddle.

As she stares at the fire she asks, "Think we did the right thing by leaving girl?" Stormfly just settles down quietly purring away. Astrid begins to think back to her time at the tavern. She thinks back to Heather who always had her back. Telling her she does not bow to anyone, not even to those who believe themselves rulers. Her thoughts go to Snotlout, causing her to shutter, but she finds that even though he has a massive ego. He is loyal to his friends, and she finds that admiral despite the fact he flirts with her still. But a good solid punch to the face is all it takes for him to leave her be. Finally her thoughts go to Hiccup, the man who took her in. The man who has been invading her sleep and dreams. Every time she turns him away he still is a gentleman to her. Astrid can't figure out what she feels for him.

She finds that just thinking about everything is too much for her to deal with. So now she pulls the blanket from Stormfly's bag and wraps herself in it. Stormfly wraps around her rider in a protective manner. The pair soon fall asleep listening to the calm sounds of the forest around them. What feels like a few hours Stormfly wakes up to the sound of someone coming.

Stormfly listens closely and suddenly realizes that she does not recognize the people coming. When their scent hits her nose, she begins to growl. Which wakes up Astrid and asks tiredly, "What is wrong girl?" Seconds after she speaks she is grabbed by a man who attacked her six months ago.

Astrid tries to escape however like last time he is too strong for her to escape. Stormfly goes to attack but the man says, "I don't think so, dragon. I will kill her if you move." Stormfly sends out a loud roar that shakes the air around them. The man just chuckles and that is when several other vampires come out and pin Stormfly down.

Seeing her dragon being pinned Astrid yells, "Leave her alone!" The man answers madly, "And let a large meal get away? I don't think so." He pushes her onto her knees and yanks her head back exposing her throat to him. When he examines her neck so the man can see that she has no marks anywhere. He laughs more and says, "He never claimed you. Don't worry darling, I am here to calm you."

Astrid tries to fight but now she has tears running down her eyes. She closes her eyes and sobs loudly feeling helpless. The man pushes her head to the side more, getting ready to sink his fangs into her neck.

However, before his fangs could even touch her he is punched in the face again allowing Astrid to escape from his grasp. Astrid falls to the ground as the other vampires that were holding Stormfly down were thrown off. Astrid looks up to see Hiccup standing over her while both Snotlout and Heather free her dragon. Hiccup growls loudly, "You need to leave her alone, Dagur." The man now named Dagur gets up laughing. Taking a long moment to calm down he says, "Oh Hiccup. You still have not claimed her. I know her blood calls you. Sings to you. Telling you to claim her."

Astrid looks back at Hiccup still scared but she does not fear Hiccup and so moves a little closer to him and away from Dagur but Hiccup answers, "Yes. Her blood does call me. It has from the moment I met her. I will never ever force anything on her. If she refuses, then once she dies as a human I will follow." This admission surprises Astrid so much so that she forgets where she is.

Dagur then says, "That is interesting. A vampire male willing to kill themselves to be with a human who does not want him." Hiccup bites back, "I would never force this life on another. No matter what." Astrid is amazed by this but slowly moves to get up. Hiccup feels her move and he helps her to her feet but keeps an eye on Dagur. Once Astrid is up, he moves her behind him to keep himself between her and Dagur. Heather and Snotlout now stand behind Hiccup and Astrid making sure no one else sneaks up behind them.

Hiccup then says, "We are leaving. This is your last warning, if I ever see you here ever again, I will kill you." Hiccup moves back causing Astrid to back up but Dagur laughs again then says, "Oh, my dear brother. It is cute that you think she is leaving."

Hiccup growls and from behind him Snotlout and Heather are attacked while Astrid is shoved towards Dagur by one of his followers. Astrid is thrown forward and away from Hiccup but is quickly grabbed by Dagur who then takes a few steps back. His hand covers her mouth to keep her from yelling out for help.

Hiccup grabbed the vampire who grabbed Astrid and killed him quickly. However, Hiccup was not fast enough to stop Dagur from sinking his fangs into Astrids neck. Astrid opens her mouth in a silent cry of pain and can't fight back. Her eyes roll into the back of her head and her body goes limp. Hiccup sees red and charges forward.

Daugr throws Astrid's body to the ground and is not locked in a fight with Hiccup. Astrid lays dying on the ground in a pool of her own blood. Stormfly runs over to Astrid nudging her rider and threatening any who come too close.

Astrid was able to keep her eyes open for only a few minutes. At least long enough to see both Heather and Snotlout destroy the vampires who attacked them. And watches them come rushing to her side before her world goes black. Heather drops to her knees to slow the bleeding down but she can tell that Astrid has lost too much blood. Snotlout yells to Hiccup, "Hiccup! Astrid is dying! Get over here!"

After hearing this Hiccup grabs Dagur by his throat and with his strength holds him down. Hiccup then says, "You will never threaten anyone again." He takes both his hands and snaps Dagur's neck with ease then leaves his body behind. Hiccup runs over to Astrid's side holding her close to him. The scent of her blood makes him want to drain her dry. But he restrains himself and demands, "Save her Heather."

Heather answers worryingly, "I can't. Not without turning her." Hiccup wines at this news and watches as Astrid becomes even more pale and her eyes begin to close. Hiccup shakes her some and leans his head down to press against hers.

The shaking does cause Astrid to weakly say, "I don't want to die." Hearing this Hiccup leans back but quickly says, "I won't turn you without your permission. If I turn you it is permanent." Astrid quietly pleads, "Save me." Then her eyes close once more and her heart stops beating. Hiccup leans down to her neck and impales her with his own fangs.

He covers the mark Dagur left on her as his instinct demands that he gets rid of another's mark on his mate. He then begins to pump venom into Astrid's still body. Both Heather and Snotlout watch closely and after a few moments. Hiccup pulls back her blood running down his chin he watches for any sign of movement.

Minutes turn to hours with Hiccup refusing to let her go while Heather and Snotlout get rid of the other vampires. After the bodies of the other vampires are gone, they all make their way back to the tavern. Knowing that the sun will come up but also a safe place to keep Astrid during this time.

When they return, the sun is beginning to rise and Heather says, "We need to get back. The sun is rising." Hiccup wordlessly picks Astrid up in his arms, her head on his shoulder and they all go back. Stormfly flies overhead and goes into the stable where the other dragons are kept. Once back at the inn Hiccup places Astrid on her in bed and sits in a chair. Heather takes over the inn while Snotlout keeps a close eye on Hiccup and Astrid.

Two weeks later, Astrid's Room

Astrid still had not moved in two weeks; they have been back at the inn. As the days go by Hiccup loses faith that she will wake up. During this time, he has stopped feeding, not even Heather can get him to leave to hunt. Hiccup remains motionless in the chair next to Astrid's bed only moving slightly when Heather or Snotlout comes into the room.

Hiccup's father and leader has told him that the clan is leaving on the day that Astrid got bit. Stoick has told him that he will leave with the clan or be left behind. Hiccup refuses to leave Astrid in the state she was in. In a fit of anger Stoick Hiccup then when he was done being stubborn to join them at their home island. Hiccup never acknowledged his father and that left Stoick seething mad behind him. His mother just hugs Hiccup and has told him that when Astrid wakes up to rejoin the clan. Again, Hiccup never spoke and returned to Astrid's side.

Another week passes and Hiccup has grown so weak that he has collapsed from his chair. Heather now has him in a bed next to Astrid. Both friends are getting more worried and now they sit in the room with the still pair. Snotlout speaks, "Man seeing Hiccup like this makes me feel… I don't know."

Heather nods in agreement and turns to face Snotlout, "The only way we can save him is if Astrid wakes up." When Heather looks back at Astrid, she can see that Astrid is starting to move. Heather smacks Snotlout who protests loudly but when he looks to Astrid, he can see that she is beginning to stir. They watch as Astrid slowly sits up and opens her eyes for the first time in weeks. Her eyes open to reveal that they are glowing and her pupils are slits.

Astrid looks around the room for a moment and when her eyes fall on Heather and Snotlout she smiles at them. However, she grabs her throat in discomfort and Heather quickly says, "I know the feeling, but you need to save Hiccup first." Astrid takes a moment to take her mind off of her new found thirst. Once she does she begins to look around the room again. However when she turns to look back on the bed. Astrid finds Hiccup pale and looking very thin.

Astrid quickly gets up from the bed shaking then asks, "What happened to him?" Snotlout answers, "He stopped feeding when he brought you back here." Astrid whimpers then she stands next to him and Heather says, "Hiccup refused to leave your side. His instinct to protect you is very strong."

Astrid looks back at Heather and Snotlout her voice shaking, "So, he only cares for me because of some instinct?" Heather shakes her head and Snotlout answers, "All vampires have the instinct to protect the ones they care for. Hiccup fell for you the moment he met you." Astrid looks at Snotlout looking for any hint of a lie when she sees that he is not. She turns back to Hiccup and asks, "He cares for me?"

Both Heather and Snotlout at the same time say, "He does." Heather goes over to Astrid grabbing her hand then says, "Hiccup cares for you and would do anything for you. Hell, he would do anything for his friends and family." Then she pleads, "Please Astrid. Save him. He will die if he does not feed."

Astrid asks, "How?" Snotlout goes to stand next to Heather, "He has to feed from you. It is not enough to fully satisfy him, but it will be enough for him to wake up and hunt." Astrid nods then she lays back down on the bed next to Hiccup. She places her hand on Hiccup's face then leans over to whisper, "Come back."

Then she exposes her neck to Hiccup and waits for what feels like a long time. Seconds after Hiccup moves and sinks his fangs into her neck. Instead of feeling pain like when Dagur sank his fangs into her neck. Astrid feels pleasure coursing through her body as Hiccup feeds from her. Moments later Hiccup pulls away causing Astrid to whine quietly but Hiccup chuckles and says, "Thank you beautiful." Astrid holds Hiccup's hand while behind them Heather and Snotlout sigh in relief.
