Pup Problems: A Very Hairy Situation
It had been ten years since the Volturi standoff, and life had been surprisingly peaceful for Renesmee Cullen and Jacob Black—until now. Their wedding had been a whirlwind of supernatural chaos, blending Quileute traditions with Cullen elegance. Edward had walked Renesmee down the aisle, his face an unreadable mask of emotions, though Jacob could practically feel the waves of reluctant acceptance rolling off him. Seth had cried (loudly), Leah had rolled her eyes but secretly smiled, and Charlie had looked both proud and slightly disturbed by the sheer number of non-human attendees. The reception had been filled with wolf-pack antics, Emmett's terrible but enthusiastic dancing, and Alice's extravagant decorations that somehow included an ice sculpture of a wolf and a lion intertwined. And now, after all of that, life had finally settled—until now.
Renesmee sat on the kitchen counter, staring at the pregnancy test in her hand. The little plus sign mocked her. "So… uh… what do I do with this?" she asked, turning to Alice, who had been trying (and failing) to see anything about this future.
Alice, for once, was speechless.
"Well," Rosalie said, smirking. "I think that means you're having a baby."
Renesmee shot her a glare. "Yes, thank you, Captain Obvious."
Jacob, who had been chugging a soda, suddenly inhaled and choked. "A what now?!"
Seth Clearwater, who had just walked in, stared at the scene. "Wait… are we talking about what I think we're talking about?"
Quil immediately flopped onto the couch. "Oh, man. The pack's never gonna let Jacob live this down."
Leah, ever the realist, just crossed her arms. "I told you all imprinting was weird. But noooo, you didn't want to listen. Now look at you."
Carlisle, ever the calm one, adjusted his glasses. "Well, this is unexpected but not impossible. Given Renesmee's hybrid nature and Jacob's, well, shapeshifting abilities—"
Emmett burst out laughing. "Dude, you're gonna be a dad! And it might be a werewolf-vampire hybrid! Imagine that thing phasing mid-tantrum!"
Jacob groaned, sinking onto a chair. "Oh man, Billy is going to kill me."
Bella, meanwhile, was still frozen in shock. "My baby is having a baby," she whispered. Then, she blinked and looked at Edward. "Our baby is having a baby."
Edward, who had been staring blankly into the void, finally spoke. "I need a moment."
Jasper, sensing the rising panic, nudged Alice. "Should we be worried that Edward is having a crisis?"
"Oh, he's fine," Alice said, waving a hand. "He just needs time to process the fact that Jacob's, um, contribution is responsible for his grandchild."
Esme, ever the nurturing matriarch, stepped forward with a warm smile. "This is wonderful news! Renesmee, sweetheart, are you feeling okay? Do you need anything?"
"Yeah," Renesmee groaned. "I need a new family."
Edward finally snapped out of his trance and pointed an accusatory finger at Jacob. "You did this!"
Jacob threw his hands up. "Hey, technically we both did this!"
"I still don't like it," Edward grumbled.
Carlisle cleared his throat, bringing the chaos back to focus. "First things first, we need to monitor the pregnancy closely. We don't know how fast the baby will develop."
"Please don't let it be as fast as Renesmee," Bella muttered. "I am not emotionally ready for another super-speed pregnancy."
Leah scoffed. "Oh, I don't know. I think it'd be hilarious to watch Jacob freak out."
Embry grinned. "Yeah, what's scarier? The idea of changing diapers or fighting off supernatural threats?"
Jacob groaned, running a hand down his face. "Both. Definitely both."
Their house, a charming cabin nestled right on the invisible line between the Quileute and Cullen territories, had been a carefully agreed-upon compromise. Not too close to the pack that the vampires had to deal with the scent, but not so close to the Cullens that Jacob felt like he was living in a coven's guest room.
It had started as a quiet morning—Renesmee making coffee, Jacob half-asleep on the couch—until Alice and Rosalie had barged in with a pack of pregnancy tests. How they had suspected before Renesmee did was still a mystery.
By the time the results had come in, the entire Cullen family and most of Jacob's pack had arrived, each reacting in their own dramatic fashion.
Jacob's pack had actually been visiting when it happened. Quil and Embry had dropped by to challenge Jacob to a rematch of their ongoing (and very competitive) video game war, while Leah had come by to deliver some homemade food from Sue, and Seth had tagged along because, well, he was Seth. The moment Alice started screeching, they'd all rushed inside, assuming some major vampire disaster was happening—only to find Jacob looking like he was about to pass out while Renesmee waved a pregnancy test in the air.
"You all just happened to be nearby?" Jacob grumbled.
Alice grinned. "No, I had a feeling something big was about to happen. And well, I wasn't wrong."
"Of course, you weren't," he muttered. "But why did you bring the whole damn family?"
Emmett, who was still grinning like an idiot, clapped him on the back. "Come on, this is hilarious. The great Alpha wolf, the big bad protector of La Push, is gonna be changing diapers!"
Renesmee shot him a glare. "I'm still deciding whether or not I'll let you babysit."
Jasper smirked. "If the child inherits your temper, I'd pay to see that."
Jacob groaned again. "Can I just breathe for a second?"
Edward crossed his arms. "No."
Leah snorted. "Oh, this is better than I expected. I might actually enjoy this chaos."
Seth, ever the optimist, clapped Jacob on the shoulder. "Congratulations, man. You and Ness are gonna be great parents."
Leah, who had once despised the Cullens, surprised everyone by adding, "He's right. And before anyone asks—no, I don't hate vampires anymore. That ship sailed a long time ago. If anything, I realized holding onto anger wasn't helping me. So yeah, I tolerate them. Some of them, anyway."
Rosalie smirked. "I'm going to assume I'm not on that list."
Leah shrugged. "Eh, you're okay."
The months that followed were an absolute disaster. Renesmee's pregnancy was fast-tracked, much like her own development had been, and that meant everything escalated at a pace no one was prepared for. One moment, she was barely showing, and the next, she had an undeniable baby bump and an insatiable craving for extremely specific food combinations—like peanut butter and raw venison, which made Jacob gag every time.
Jacob himself was a mess. He was equal parts doting and panicked, trailing behind Renesmee like a lost puppy, constantly checking her temperature, her pulse, her mood. The mood swings were the worst. One second she was weeping because a commercial about puppies was too sad, and the next she was threatening to throw Emmett through a wall because he laughed at her for crying.
Bella, deeply traumatized from her own supernatural pregnancy, nearly had a breakdown when Carlisle confirmed the baby's growth was advanced. Edward, on the other hand, split his time between hovering protectively around his daughter and glaring daggers at Jacob every time Renesmee so much as winced.
Meanwhile, the pack found endless amusement in Jacob's suffering. Leah took particular delight in calling him 'Daddy Wolf' every time he complained, while Seth acted like an excited uncle-to-be, already brainstorming baby names. Quil and Embry placed bets on everything—from the baby's gender to whether it would be born with a tail.
Alice, whose visions remained frustratingly blocked, resorted to preparing for every possible scenario. She stocked Renesmee's closet with baby clothes ranging from normal onesies to tiny wolf-themed sweaters. Rosalie, despite her usual snark, was surprisingly helpful, taking over as Renesmee's self-appointed bodyguard whenever Jacob was too exhausted from his constant state of panic.
As the due date loomed closer, the entire house felt like a ticking time bomb, with vampires and shifters alike walking on eggshells, waiting for the inevitable chaos to unfold.
When the time finally came, chaos erupted in the cabin. Renesmee's contractions started in the middle of the night, sending Jacob into full-blown panic mode. He tripped over his own feet, grabbed his car keys, then threw them across the room because he forgot they weren't necessary.
Edward, who had been reading quietly, immediately sprang to his feet. "Stay calm," he said, though his own wide eyes betrayed him. "Jacob, fetch Carlisle."
"Why do I have to fetch him?!" Jacob snapped. "You fetch him! You run faster!"
"I am not leaving my daughter!"
"SHE'S MY WIFE!"
"AND SHE'S MY DAUGHTER!" Edward snapped back, fangs slightly bared.
Alice, already on the phone with Carlisle, sighed. "For the love of—both of you shut up and focus."
Renesmee, mid-contraction, groaned. "Oh my God, can you two just stop fighting and get me some help?!"
The rest of the Cullens and the pack burst in within minutes, turning the tiny cabin into a whirlwind of unhelpful chaos. Leah was cackling at Jacob's frazzled state, while Seth kept offering Renesmee water like it was some magic cure. Emmett, naturally, had his phone out, recording everything. "This is gold. Absolute gold."
Rosalie shoved Emmett. "For once in your life, put the phone down and help!"
"Are you kidding?! This is going in the family archives!" Emmett laughed, dodging Rosalie's smack.
Jasper, ever the tactician, stood back analyzing the chaos. "It's like a battle scene with no clear strategy. No coordination, no leadership—"
"JASPER, NOT NOW!" Alice and Bella yelled at the same time.
Renesmee's accelerated pregnancy meant that in a matter of months, she was already going into labor. She clutched Jacob's hand, squeezing so hard that he yelped.
"Ow, Nessie! I need that hand!"
"YOU DID THIS TO ME, YOU SUFFER WITH ME!"
"Fair! Totally fair!"
Hours later, the sound of a newborn's cry filled the room.
Carlisle smiled, holding up the baby. "Congratulations, it's a—" He blinked. "Huh. Well, that's new."
Everyone crowded around, staring.
The baby, while mostly human-looking, had a thick patch of dark hair and Jacob's warm brown eyes.
And two tiny, fuzzy wolf ears.
Then, without warning, the baby let out a sneeze—and shifted.
Right there in Carlisle's arms, their newborn transformed into a tiny wolf pup, fur the exact same color as Jacob's.
Silence.
Then Emmett howled with laughter. "I WIN THE BET! PAY UP, QUIL!"
Jacob buried his face in his hands. "Oh, great. My kid's gonna be part puppy."
Edward smirked. "Well, I suppose it was bound to happen, considering the father."
Jacob glared at him. "Oh, don't you start, bloodsucker."
Renesmee, exhausted but amused, held her child close. "I think she's perfect."
Edward, despite his many grievances with Jacob, leaned over and placed a gentle kiss on Renesmee's forehead. "You did beautifully, sweetheart."
Bella, eyes brimming with emotion, ran a hand through her daughter's hair. "I'm so proud of you."
Edward wrapped an arm around Bella as they both looked at their daughter and grandchild, warmth in their usually immortal gazes.
Leah smirked. "Oh, this is just the beginning, Alpha Dad."
