(A/N): Hey Guys! So, this is Mia's first PoV I think? We get a little bit of insight into her character and her relationship with her mother and brother, and Leo returns home. Eventually.

Disclaimer: I own nothing you recognise.

Mia

Sitting and waiting for Leo to come back from Elaine's house while being babysat from afar by a group of vampires was one of the most terrifying experiences I've ever had. You know, after every time I had ever been in contact with my mother.

Even though I knew, on some subconscious level, that the vampires wouldn't hurt me because I knew Leo trusted them enough to leave me here, I couldn't help but wait for the worst to happen.

I had barricaded myself in my brother's room, shoving a heavy wooden table against the door, and even though I knew it wouldn't keep them out, it seemed to help calm my nerves a little. I curled up around myself on the bed, waiting for him to return.

After a few hours though, when he didn't return home, I fell asleep on top of the covers, and when I awoke, I found myself under them. The table in front of the door was back in its original position, and a plate equal parts bacon and cookies sat on the chest of drawers next to the bed. Gingerly, now knowing for sure that they could get in here at me whenever they wanted to, I took one of the cookies, and gripping the provided glass of milk in my hand, before I realised just how hungry I had become, and quickly finishing off the lukewarm bacon.

Roughly half an hour later, with Leo still not back, I decided to venture away from the bed- rifling through his drawers, hunting through the boxes under his bed, and eventually, scanning his bookshelf. Curious upon finding an unmarked book on one of the shelves I took it into my hands, carefully flipping the pages until I reached the first real page- not a title, or blank one.

Attached to the top of the page with a paperclip, however, were two small pictures- one being a group photograph of Leo's friends, including his girlfriend, with them waving at the camera and pulling funny faces. The other was a drawing- a quite stunning depiction of a younger version of me. Who had drawn that? I knew Leo had had a passing interest in art when he was a child- well, he was still a child technically, but back when he'd been living with our parents- but our mother had forbidden him for pursuing it.

Furrowing my eyebrows, I continued to flip.

'- She just makes me so crazy. Her eyes, so warm, her hair and skin so soft, that little gap between her teeth-'

"It isn't polite to read other people's diaries, you know." I dropped the book quickly, whirling to find Leo standing in the now open doorway, releasing a breath of relief.

"Leo." I murmured, jumping to throw my arms around him, resting my head on his chest as he hoisted me up slightly so I could stand on his toes.

"Did you miss me?" He asked, and I nodded firmly.

"Not to be rude, but vampires terrify me." He pulled back, smiling slightly.

"That's a little weird, considering you grew up with one." I rolled my eyes at him.

"Yeah, but you're not dangerous Leo. They are." His eyebrows furrowed, and he shook his head.

"I killed four people yesterday Mia." My blood ran cold, and I stumbled backwards, keeping my wide eyes focused on him even as I tripped and fell onto the bed.

"W-What?" It came out in a pitiful whimper, and I could tell by the look in his eyes that he couldn't tell that I wasn't afraid, only shocked.

"When my father was... when he died, we were under attack. By other vampires." I nodded slowly. So far, it made sense. "I killed the first one who was attacking me, then the one who was sneaking up on my father. As I left to come get you, I finished off the two remaining rival vampires." I bit my lip, gaze dropping to the ground.

My brother, the killer. Ha, if my mother could see him now! This was exactly what she always wanted, I guess. The perfect son, willing to kill for her, vampires at least, to be absolutely ruthless in order to get what he wanted. In this instance... He was fully Slytherin.

"People." I muttered, and upon looking up, I met his confused eyes.

"What?" He questioned, and I shrugged lightly.

"You called them people." He hesitated for a second before nodding.

"That's technically what they were. Really, really old people, with enhanced abilities." I pursed my lips slightly.

In that though, and everything else, he was utterly Gryffindor.

And I wouldn't have it any other way.

(A/N): So, what did you think?

Please review and/or check out my other stories!

Especially the AU to this story, called 'Blood Begets Blood'.

This chapter has had minor edits made to it on 31/12/22 - To add a little bit of context to the pictures Mia finds in Leo's diary.

11/10/23 - I came back to reread this, and I guess I kept it vague on purpose, but I don't know if I realised at the time that it isn't vague at all. There's no one else that could've tucked Mia into bed, or given her the milk, cookies and bacon. Nicholai's dead, Shari's distraught, and the Twins can't be around humans. The only person who could've done all of that stuff is Lisbet, and I just... mother be mothering, y'all.
