(A/N): Hey Guys! So, I haven't updated in a while, but my muse is still in the toilet, and while I'm hoping a stint of Camp NaNoWriMo will help it, that still means I'll probably disappear for a whole month, maybe without profit. So, I'm staging the prewritten chapters so that maybe you'll actually have something to cling onto during my absence.
Disclaimer: I own nothing you recognise.
Leo
Well, there was only one way to find out.
I had helped Remus to the Hospital Wing this morning as per usual, and come five minutes to sunset, the remaining Marauders, Elaine, and I took shelter in an alcove outside the castle, in one of the courtyards.
"Ready?" Elaine asked the boys, noticing the look on my face.
"We have to do this." James murmured, and I shook my head.
"You don't." Peter stared at me, until I met his eyes.
"Yeah." He said firmly. "We do." Turning my attention back to Remus, I swallowed thickly.
"He's starting to change." Elaine and I began to move in sync, the boys falling in to keep up with us as we started to make our way out of the alcove, and then the courtyard.
"Stay behind Leo. Remus will tear through anything in his path, and your animals aren't exactly dangerous." I smiled slightly, glad Elaine knew the deal.
"I think Leo's nose would beg to differ." James joked, trying to lighten the mood, but I did my best to ignore it, focusing on Remus.
"Change." I commanded firmly, and the boys stopped in their tracks, starting to transform while Elaine and I only had to slow in order to be able to change.
Pushing myself to change, and keep tabs on Remus the whole while, we pressed forward at a crawl, and as soon as I had paws instead of feet and spotted fur all along my body, I took off- quickly finishing the transformation as I dived past the flailing limbs of the Whomping Willow. I whacked the special knot in the trunk we had seen Madam Pomfrey use a few full moons ago, and Elaine darted past me and into the tunnel, waiting just inside.
We were a lot quicker than the Marauders, having transformed many times more, and I had to knock the knot two more times before the boys neared the tree, and I turned, shooting inside the tunnel just before they did. Elaine had started moving again as soon as I released the knot on the tree but I caught up to her just as Remus completed his transformation.
As per usual, he was curled up in the corner of the room as we entered, and he lifted his head, curious as to what these new animals were doing here.
I remained on guard, not wanting one of my friends to get hurt because I hadn't properly been paying attention, but after about a minute, Elaine stole my usual spot on the torn up arm chair, and the boys were allowed their first actual look at the wolf that was Remus.
'Shit.' I heard Sirius splutter, and I was inclined to nod in agreement when the two canines locked eyes, and Moony shot to his feet- err, paws.
Immediately, I put myself in front of Sirius, and Elaine was up and hurrying to cover the other two boys now that they were unprotected.
I bared my teeth at Remus, and he focused on me for a second before returning his full attention to Sirius. I swung at him as he took a step forward, intentionally missing him by millimeters- A warning shot.
He skulked back a bit, watching me warily, remembering the last few times he hadn't obeyed his alpha- A.K.A, me.
The others held their breath, waiting to see what I was going to do as the wolf paced mere feet from us.
'Sirius, you have to fight him.'
Even though I no longer had my Blood Sense in this form, I knew their heads had snapped up.
'What?'
He squeaked, not even bothering to try and sound tough.
'Leo-'
I cut Elaine off, jerking my head in Remus's direction.
'He's not gonna calm down until the other canine either asserts his dominance or submits, and since Sirius needs to be able to control him if we're not around, and we can't stay alert all night...'
I let it hang in the air, and Sirius took a tentative step forward.
'What do I do?'
I smiled slightly in my head, keeping my eyes on Remus, analyzing his weaknesses.
'You're smaller than he is, get close to him, and get your teeth to his throat as quickly as possible. Don't let him tear your head off?'
I offered, and Sirius nodded.
'And how exactly do I do that?'
I cracked a grin.
'Don't worry Sirius, I'll stop him before he hurts you too badly.'
Elaine moved closer to my side.
'Are you sure about this?'
She asked me- just me- and I nodded.
'Yeah. Remember your first full moon? Canines just make him go crazy. The easiest way to do it...'
I nodded to Sirius, and he stepped out from behind me, the wolf immediately casting his eyes at me, wondering if this was a trap.
As Sirius took another step forward, I kept my eyes on the wolf, seeing the tension mount.
'Move, Sirius, fast!'
Obediently, the dog lunged at the wolf, who seemed somewhat shocked by the smaller canines' actions. Luckily, Sirius was fast, because when the wolf came to his senses it swung at him, claws only managing to scrape his fur, a small trickle of blood matting it to his skin.
'Fuck, that hurts!'
Sirius hissed in my head, immediately ducking under the wolf's belly- getting close to him like I had said- and even as the wolf tried to kick at him, Sirius was unharmed, too quick and too close to be hit. The wolf twisted, sensing the danger of having another animal so close to his sensitive underbelly, and Sirius did a very human thing, kicking out one of the wolf's front legs and turning-
So he could place his teeth against the flesh at the side of Remus's neck. And it was Remus now, because as soon as the wolf was beaten, he relinquished control to the human boy who shared the form.
'Sirius...'
He murmured, noticing the scratches along the dogs' flank as Sirius rolled away from him.
'I'm so sorry.'
He turned his attention to me, and I could see the look in his eyes.
It was a, 'why did you let this happen?' look, and I got it a lot.
'I'm so freaking-'
Sirius cut him off.
'It's fine.'
He said, obviously taking a page out of my book, and returned to James's side, Peter still clinging to the fur at the back of the stag's neck.
'Remus, the wolf wanted a battle for dominance, it wouldn't stop eyeing Sirius off, so Leo made the decision to let you two fight- so you didn't tear him to pieces when we were all tuckered out closer to dawn.'
Elaine explained, obviously also having noticed the look.
'Oh.'
Was all he said, and Sirius slunk to fall in behind me, probably for protecting while he was still wounded.
'Stings like a bitch, though. What have you got in those claws, acid?'
Remus met my eyes.
'Closer to holy water, actually. Werewolves claws have evolved to be as deadly as possible to vampires.'
The other turned to look at me, but I simply hopped up into my ruined armchair.
'Monopoly, anyone?'
(A/N): So, what did you think?
