Chapter 1: Kaigan! It's Me!
The sun had arisen, bringing with it a new day to the citizens to Fuyuki City, shining its light on the land below. In the traditional part of the city, known to the residence as Miyama Town, stood a large expanse of land upon which stood several buildings, a large main building surrounded and several smaller buildings surrounded by a wall.
Off to one side of the residence was a building that served as a storage shed. Inside a teenage boy was spread out across a blanket on the ground, blissfully unaware of the start of a new day as he snored softly.
"Senpei…Senpei, time to wake up..." Slowly a gentle voice penetrated the orange haired boy's consciousness, pulling him from the depths of slumber and into the waking world.
Letting out a groan Emiya Shirou's eyelids parted and he was greeted to the sight of the one who had woken from his slumber.
Kneeling beside him was a girl who looked to be a few years younger than him, her long straight violet hair, styled with a red ribbon on the left side, and matching eyes, dressed in a school uniform that consisted of a white sleeved shirt with red trim and ribbon under a light brown vest with a black skirt finishing the look.
"...Morning Sakura…" Shirou muttered as he blinked the tiredness out of his eyes before sitting up.
She smiled gently at him, brushing her hair back with her hand, "Good morning Senpei." The purple haired girl replied. "Y'know you shouldn't sleep in here, Rea-san will get mad again."
Shirou almost groaned at hearing that name. 'Oh great, she's here…' "Yeah yeah…your right...sorry for being such a pain for you Sakura." Just then he noticed that that the purple haired girl had a bandage on her left hand. "Something wrong with your hand?"
"Oh…oh this…its nothing." Sakura replied, trying to cover her left hand with her right. "I…I fell out of bed this morning and landed on it funny. But you don't have to worry, its fine."
Shirou frowned at this. "Did Shinji have anything to do with it?" He asked in a firm tone.
"N…no, like I said its fine." Sakura said, clearly wanting him to drop the subject. "Anyway, you better go get ready. We do have school today."
"Sure." Shirou said, making a mental note to question Sakura's brother Shinji about this later. "I'll be out in a second ok."
"Ok then, I'll see you inside." Sakura said, she then got to her feet and headed over to the open door that led to the yard beyond.
Once the purple haired girl had left the room Shirou got to his feet and walked over to a wall where a series of tally marks, most which consisted of four lines with a dash through them for a total of five, had been drawn on it, picking up a nearby piece of chalk he drew another small line on the wall bring the total of up to of 28 in all.
'28 days already…' Shirou frowned. 'That means I've only got 71 left…whatever, plenty of time to find the others…'
A short time later Shirou, now washed up and changed into his own uniform, entered the kitchen/living area of his home, as he did so he was greeted by the sight of a pale skinned woman sitting at the table, her hair silvery white and her eyes blood red, clad in an all-black business suit happily drinking coffee.
"Oh there you are." The woman said upon seeing the flame haired teen. "Here I was thinking if you were ever going to wake up today."
"Rea." Shirou replied as he sat down at the table. "Did you screw with Sakura's memories again?"
"Maybe." Rea shrugged before taking another sip of her coffee. "Mmmmh, that girl sure makes a good cup of coffee. Perfect wife material if you ask me."
Frowning Shirou reached into his pocket and took of the blue and white orb that he then tossed gently to the pale woman who in turn snatched it out of the air effortlessly. "Ahhh." She said as she examined it. "The Newton Damashii. So how many does that make now?"
"Four." Shirou replied. "I have that one as well as the ones for Musashi, Edison and Beethoven."
Rea raised an eyebrow at this. "Twenty eight days and you've only found four Eyecons." She said as she tossed the Eyecon back to Shirou. "Your gonna have to pick up the pace, at the rate you're going your time will expire and you'll fade away before you find the other eleven. And I'd hate to see that happen, what with all the effort it took to bring you back from the dead and all."
Shirou said nothing; he merely looked away from her with a frustrated look on his face. He knew what the woman before him was getting at, this wasn't the first time they'd had this conversation, she was referring to his lack of training in the magical arts.
Kiritsugu had only been willing to ever teach him the bare minimum, focusing purely on strengthening magic and nothing else. Because of this he was lacking in a lot of other areas of Magecraft, one of those areas being scrying. As much as Shirou loved his late father it didn't blind him to the fact that the man had been a lousy teacher.
Whilst Shirou was lost in thought Rea downed the last of her coffee. "Ok, I'm off. Places to go, souls to see." She said as she got to feet, with a snap of her fingers a rather large scythe appeared in her hand. "Remember the golden rule, no outsiders are to find out about this."
"Yeah, yeah." Shirou replied.
From out of thin air a large Torii gate appeared behind Rea that opened up to reveal a glowing white void that engulfed the black suited woman before slamming shut, moments later the gate vanished in the blink of an eye.
Seconds later Sakura reentered the room. "Oh, did Rea-san leave already?" She asked upon seeing that Shirou was the only other person in the room.
"Y…yeah. She had work stuff." Shirou replied as he quickly hid the Newton Damashii.
"Oh, ok then. As usual I didn't hear her go." Sakura said as she took the empty coffee cup and carried over to the sink where she quickly washed it. "Senpai, what is Rea-san's job again?"
"She…she helps dying people." Shirou told her before getting to his feet. "We better go too, you want me to give you a ride?"
Sakura stammered at hearing this. "A…are you sure Senpai?" She replied, blushing slightly. "You've not had that anything to eat yet."
"Its fine, I don't feel like eating right now." Shioru told her. "Sides, you've got Archery Club right?"
"Y…yeah, that's right." Sakura said, she then took a second to compose herself and big smile spread across her face. "S…sure, that would be great."
Minutes later the two teens exited the house and, after Shirou was finished locking up, made their way to the courtyard in which stood Shirou's prize possession: a black and chrome Yamaha V-Max motorcycle. The bike had originally belonged to Kiritsugu that in turn had gone to Shirou upon his death.
Before long the pair were tearing their way along the mostly empty roads headed towards the town, Sakura holding tightly onto Shirou on the sharper turns. Thanks to the speedy vehicle it didn't take too long for the two teens to arrive at the local high school, Homurahra Academy.
Stepping through the front entrance Shirou felt an odd sensation inside his chest, and if that wasn't enough he could feel the Ore Damashii in his pocket react to something. Could this mean that there was an Eyecon somewhere within the school grounds?
"Senpai." The sound of Sakura's voice snapping Shirou back to reality. "Are you ok, you were being kind of quiet there."
"S…sorry Sakura, I zoned out for a second." Shirou replied. "What were you saying?"
"I…was just letting you know that I might not be able to come around to see you in the morning for a little while." Sakura told him. "I have…family matters that require my full attention."
"Oh I see, can't be helped I guess." Shirou replied. "Good luck with that and I'll see you around here at school at least."
With that the two of them parted ways, Sakura heading to meet up with the other members of her club and Shirou headed towards the student council room to meet up with his friend Ryuudou Issei, on his way he happened to overhear a piece of gossip: one of the students, Tohsaka Rin, was absent from school today.
Tohsaka Rin, like just about every student that attended Homurahra Academy Shirou was aware of her. He'd seen her around school however, aside from a few shared words reserved exclusively for polite greetings, that's as far as their association went.
The rest of Shirou's day was fairly unremarkable, going class and hanging out with his friends, he decided that the best idea would be to wait until school ended before looking for the new Eyecon since he figured he'd have an easier time after all the students and staff had left for the day.
Eventually the school day came and went, the final bell signaling the end of class. Holding himself back a little Shirou said goodbye to his classmates before slipping away to find a quiet spot away from prying eyes, once he was sure that he was alone Shirou made himself invisible and as well as intangible for good measure, a pair of abilities that he'd acquired along with his current status.
Time crept by and eventually the last of the buildings occupants departed for the evening, once he was certain they were gone, Shirou emerged from his hiding spot and began his search.
Elsewhere Rin was walking the streets of Fuyuki, Archer nearby in his ethereal from. The Tohsaka mage had spent the day showing him around to give her new Servant a better lay of the land, such information was sure to be of a great tactical advantage in the battles to come.
All that was left was her school, whilst Rin was confident that there was no threat to be found there, if a battle were to occur here then it would be best that Archer was fully aware of the terrain.
"Are you sure you wish to check this place out Master?" Archer asked as they approached the building. "It's getting rather late, and the battles are set to start tomorrow. If you are to partake in them then you will require your full rest."
"Of course I'm sure. As your Master I fully expect you to be able to fight to your fullest ability no matter where we are." Rin replied. A mischievous grin then spread across her face. "Besides, we might even see the ghost tonight."
"Ghost?" Archer asked.
"Don't worry about it, it's nothing but a stupid rumor." Rin replied. "About a month ago a couple students who were at school really late said they saw a strange glowing light along with hearing weird noises in one of the halls."
With Archers help infiltrating the campus proved to be a simple matter, however upon arriving Rin's mood instantly changed. The moment her feet touched the ground a feeling of malevolence almost overwhelmed her.
'That was…' she turned to her Servant. "Archer, did you feel that?"
"Yes, there is a strong magical presence here." the red clad man replied. "From the look on your face you believe it to be a Bounded Field and you are correct. Whilst is appears to be incomplete right now I cannot say how long it will remain so."
"Irrelevant, I don't care if whoever did this is a first rate mage or a total novice, I won't stand for garbage like this. Not in my town." Rin said with total conviction. "Archer, we're not leaving till we've looked into this, once we know what we're dealing with we can take it down. If it activates there's no telling what damage it could do."
The pair set to work and soon found themselves on the roof of the building where Rin quickly discovered a magical seal.
"And this makes seven all together. From the looks of things this is the trigger point of the whole field, however I'm not familiar with this text." She told her invisible Servant. "As far as I can tell if this thing activates it could liquefy everyone trapped inside and steal their souls, that can only mean one thing. We're dealing with an enemy Servant."
"Makes sense, incorporeal beings like Servants partake of human souls the way you do animal flesh." Archer replied. "The more souls we ingest the more our strength increases. Although I assure you that I would never partake in such actions."
"Ok then," Rin said, satisfied by Archer's answer. "Let's take this thing apart."
"What, you're going to erase it now." A new voice called out. "Sounds like a waste to me."
Looking round Rin caught sight of a figure squatting on a nearby water tank. This new figure was a man clad in blue armor/bodysuit with dark blue hair tied up in a ponytail, a long red spear draped across his shoulders.
'What…a Servant…damn it, I got sloppy and allowed him to sneak up on me…' Rin cursed herself. "Hey you, this thing your handiwork?"
"Nah, not my style. Underhanded tricks are more of the Master's department." The man replied. "Me, I just go fight where, when and whom I'm told to. I bet the same goes for your invisible friend there."
Elsewhere Shirou was continuing his investigation, searching high and low for any trace of this new Eyecon. Just as he was to begin searching the dojo where the Archery Club held their meetings a sudden ominous feeling washed over the area, quickly bringing his efforts to a halt.
'This…thing feeling,' Shirou thought, a cold sweat dripping from his brow. 'It's just like that other night…'
"You better summon yours soon if you don't want to die…Onii-san…"
Moments later the air was filled by the sound of battle, the noise snapping Shirou out of his stupor. Phasing through the wall of the dojo the red haired boy was greeted by the sight of two men, one clad in blue and wielding a spear and the other dressed in red and wielding a pair of blades, both of whom appeared to be fighting.
'What are those two, some kind of Gamma?' Shirou thought to himself. 'Why are they fighting?'
He wasn't given much time to ponder on this however as the sounds of metal striking metal suddenly ceased and to his horror found that both men had stopped their fight and were now looking over in his direction.
"A student?" He heard a faint voice say. "There was someone still here?"
'Crap…' Shirou cursed. He was unsure what to do, should he run or stand and fight? Even with invisibility and intangibility power he didn't know if could he escape and Rea had forbidden him to use his Rider powers in front of humans, however fighting would most likely mean he'd find himself in a two on one situation and both these guys looked pretty strong.
"Huh, seems we have an audience." He heard the spear wielder say. "Hey Archer, what say we see which of us can kill this guy first." The spearman that dashed forward, weapon ready to impale its target.
'Damnit…' His answer made for him Shirou saw no other way out of this and summoned the Ghost Driver around his waist, reaching into blazer he pulled out his Ore Damashii and placed it inside the belt.
EYE! BATCHIRIMINA…BATCHIRIMINA…BATCHIRIMINA…BATCHIRIMINA…
"Henshin…" Shirou declared as he slammed the leaver into Ghost Driver, the form fitting armor appearing around him and the Pantheon Reflector emerging from the belt, the material quickly finding its way to his upper body and Face Pantheon faceplate attaching appearing on the helmet to complete the transformation into the ghostly Kamen Rider, the Gan Gun Saber also appearing in his hand.
KAIGAN: ORE LETS GO! KAKUGO! GHO-GHO-GHO-GHOST! GO! GO! GO! GO!
Lancer wasn't sure what he'd just seen, where the wimpy looking boy had been seconds ago now stood a figure clad in weird Halloween colored armor, wielding a weapon that looked like something one would find in a toy store. Regardless he had a job to do, thrusting his weapon forward at the armored figure before him.
Seeing this the now transformed Ghost leaned out of the way of Lancer's weapon and used his sword to deflect the spear away from him, following this up he then swing at Lancer's head. Not to be out done Lancer ducked under Ghost's swing, rolled along the ground and was soon back on his feet just in time to use his lance to block another swing from Ghost's sword.
"Hey kid, just what the hell are you?" Lancer demanded as he blocked another sword slash. "I don't think I've ever seen anything like you before. Are you a Master, a Servant or some hybrid of both?"
"I'd could say the same thing about you pal," Ghost retorted. "But honestly I have no idea what you're talking about."
As Ghost and Lancer engaged one anther Archer instead chose to stay back and observe. Like Lancer he'd been caught off guard by the students sudden transformation into an armored warrior. Regardless of what it was what was perfectly clear to him was that it was not particularly skilled in using its rather ridiculous looking sword, swinging wildly at Lancer who had no problem blocking its attacks.
"Archer…" Hearing Rin's voice he looked over and found his Master approaching him. "What's going on? Did Lancer kill that student?"
"I'm not entirely sure of that myself." Archer replied. "As for the so called student, take a look for yourself."
Rin followed her Servant's prompt and saw the fight going on between Ghost and Lancer, the sight of this odd creature caused her eyes wide in shock. "N…no way…" She exclaimed, "The ghost is real?"
"Rin, I advise you to stay back. Whatever this thing is it's no mere spirit." Archer told his dark haired Master in a firm tone. "It could even be another Servant."
"Servant…" Rin said, snapping out of her stupor she noticed the sword that the 'ghost' had in one of its hands. "You mean to tell me that this…thing is the Saber Servant?"
"Judging by the sloppy way it wields its sword I highly doubt that." Archer said sternly as he conjured a new pair of falchions. "Regardless of what class it is I cannot simply ignore an enemy when it appears before me." With that he then charged towards the battle.
Back with Ghost and Lancer the two of them continued to engage one another. Lancer was now back of his feet and lunged his spear at Ghost who dodged out of the way by jumping high into the air, gripping the Gan Gun Saber in both hands he descended towards Lancer, ready to deliver a mighty swing at the spearman.
Seeing this Lancer raised his weapon and blocked Ghost's attack, the impact caused by both weapons colliding pushing him back a short distance. "You know what kid, I'm glad this is happening." He told the Ghostly Rider. "Y'see my Master is a cowardly bastard who told me to just observe and gather Intel on the other Masters. Before you showed up I'd honestly resigned myself to having a really boring evening."
"Still have no idea what you're talking about." Ghost replied.
Before Ghost or Lancer could do or say anything else both of them were quickly alerted to the presence of Archer who can rushing in a slashed one of this swords at Ghost who was forced to disengage from Lancer and use his sword to block Archer's. The two of them then exchanged a few blows before Ghost ducked out of the way of another of Archer's attacks before leaping into the air, his faceplate glowing as a swirl of orange energy appeared around him as he was carried a short distance between him and the two Servants.
"What's this, coming to my rescue Archer?" Lancer told the red clad Servant in an offhanded manner. "Did your Master order you to help me or did you do so of your own accord?"
"I am merely dealing with the weaker of my two current enemies." Archer responded. "Small fry like this one are best done away with at the start."
"You hold me in higher regard then that one, I'm flattered." Lancer said as he walked up alongside Archer and slipped into his fighting stance. "What do you say we deal with him quickly and pick up where we left off, no need for outsiders interfering with our intimate moment."
Hearing this Archer raised an eyebrow. "Are you flirting with me?" He asked.
Meanwhile Ghost's feet touched the ground once more, panting heavily as he watched the two men who only minutes ago had been fighting each other but now seemed to be united against him.
"Just my luck…" He muttered to himself as he took his Gan Gun Saber and quickly transformed it into its gun mode. That done he pointed the weapon at both Servants and opening fire.
Seeing the barrage of bullets coming towards them both Archer and Lancer scattered, narrowly avoiding Ghost's shots. Archer glared at Ghost, furious at himself for once more allowing himself to be caught off guard.
Off to the side Rin was watching, trying her best to make sense of what she was seeing. 'It's sword is also a gun, it can't be a Saber class then. But if any Servant was to use firearms it would be the Archer class, and he's already my Servant.' Rin thought to herself. 'What is this thing then? What class of Servant is it, is it even a Servant at all?'
Seeing that he had both opponents on the defensive Ghost figured now was a good opportunity to change tactics. 'Ok, let's try this…' He thought as he took out a yellow and white Eyecon and swapped out the Ore Damashii in the Ghost Driver.
EYE! BATCHIRIMINA…BATCHIRIMINA…KAIGAN: EDISON! (Electrical Voltage Crackle) EREKI! HIRAMEKI! HATSUMEI-Ō~! (Electricity Buzzing)
The Pantheon Reflector vanished from Ghost's shoulders and the Sparking Hood, a silver open hoodie with yellow lining with two antennae poking out of the top of the hood and two bulbous yellow shoulder pads, emerged from the Ghost Driver to take its place, draping itself over Ghost's shoulders, his new face plate, Face Light-bulb, now being primarily black with a yellow light bulb in the center, its design giving the face the appearance of eyes.
Feeling new power coursing through him Ghost unleashed another barrage of shots from his gun, however instead of bullets he was now firing small balls of electricity at both Servants who did their best to avoid the incoming shots.
Seeing one of the crackling orbs coming towards him Lancer ducked out of the way before charging Ghost who continued firing, one of the bolt managing to find its mark. The shot catching one of Lancer's metal shoulder pads and sending a surge of electricity through the spearman's body. The sensation causing his eyes to widen and his hair to stand on end before he collapsed onto the ground, dropping his spear as he did so.
Archer frowned as he watched his 'ally' go down. 'This…ghost, he wasn't shooting electricity before. But then he changed armor and gained the ability to do so…just what is he capable of?' Archer thought to himself, 'Whatever he is he's currently lethal at long range, leaving me with one option…'
The Archer Servant tossed both of his falchions at Ghost who in turn fired two more shots, knocking both weapons out of the air. Seeing his chance Archer charged Ghost, summoning two more falchions to his hands as he did.
Seeing this Ghost ceased firing and charged towards the tanned skinned man, weapon out stretched in front of him firing off a few more shots at Archer only to have them wiz by him harmlessly.
The two of them continued to charge one another, at the last second Ghost dropped to his knees and slid along the ground towards Archer. Drawing in closer Ghost pointed his gun at Archer's chest and fired, the shot striking him point blank and knocked him into the air.
At the same time Lancer was getting himself together when he notice Ghost launch Archer into the air and was now moving towards him. Grabbing his spear Lancer he slashed the blade across the ground kicking up a small cloud of dust in front of him.
Using his momentum Ghost leaned forward and placed both his hands on the ground and rolled into a handstand before launching himself into the air, sailing overhead of Lancer and fired several shots at the man as he flew past. Not to be caught out again Lancer avoided the Rider's shots and was quickly back on his feet.
The moment that Ghost's feet touched the ground the blue clade spearman launched himself at the armor clad Rider, going at him with a series of quick strikes each of them giving him no time to fire off more shots, one of these strikes aimed at Ghost's foot.
This however proved to be a feint as Lancer sharply slapped the shaft of his spear, knocking it upwards and struck Ghost's hand causing him to drop his gun that the blue clad spearman then kicked away, leaving the Rider unarmed.
With his opponent disarmed Lancer didn't let up his offence, digging the head of his spear into the ground Lancer launched himself a Ghost, kicking him viciously in the chest and sent him flying several feet before slamming into the ground.
His head ringing and a dull ache in his chest, Archer picked himself up off of the ground, growling in frustration as he did so. As much as he hated to admit it, especially as he himself had written him off as small fry, this ghost was proving to be a major pain to deal with.
Shaking his head to clear out the last of the fog he turned to where Lancer and Ghost were fighting and was just in time to see Lancer kick Ghost in the chest, sending the Rider flying. Conjuring another pair of swords he made his was over to Lancer.
"Ah, your back I see." Lancer said noticing Archer's presence. "Y'know I'm gonna have to reevaluate my opinion of you, didn't think you'd be the type to fall for a cheap shot like that."
"Shut up." Archer retorted. "He's a tricky little bastard."
"That he is, but not for much longer." Lancer said smugly. "From the looks of things he's just about done."
Groaning in pain Ghost got back to feet, his whole body protesting as he did so. 'D…damn. Don't know how much more of this I can take…' He inwardly grimaced as he saw Archer take his place alongside Lancer.
'Can't let this drag on …' He brought out a new Eyecon, this one being grey and white, and placed it into the Ghost Driver and pulled the handle.
EYE! BATCHIRIMINA…BATCHIRIMINA…KAIGAN: BEE~THO~VEN! (Energy Loading) KYOKUMEI! UN MEI! JA JA JA~N! (Orchestrated Tune Choir)
The Sparking Hood vanished and for the third time that evening a new one, the Symphony Hood, emerged from the Driver to take its place, this one was Symphony Hood. This hood was black and white, its lapels designed to look like piano keys. Ghost's new face plate, the Face Music Score, was four chords, the kind found on sheet music, two large Quaver notes that mimicked eye brows and two small Ottava notes that almost looked like a moustache.
"This again," Lancer scoffed. "You look even more ridiculous then you did before."
"Keep your guard up Lancer." Archer told the spearman. "From what I've seen this one's power is linked to his armor, each time he switches he gains new abilities."
Unfazed by Lancer's taunt, Ghost popped his neck before bringing his heels together and assuming a straight ridged stance, raising both of his arms into the air and began to sway his hands back and forth. As he did so the piano keys of his jacket began to glow as a sound filled the air.
From her position Rin watched this happening, hearing the noise her eyes widened as she as she recognized what she was hearing. "Is that…music…?" She said to herself.
Indeed it was, the sound of Ode to Joy, the fourth movement of Beethoven's classic Ninth Symphony filled the air.
As the music played chords and musical notes seemed to manifest themselves from thin air, responding to the hand movements of Ghost like an orchestra would respond to like a conductor, seemingly wafting towards the two Servants who looked on in a confused manner.
This didn't last long as one of the notes struck Archer in the shoulder and detonated, causing him to grunt in pain. Now aware of what they were up against both Archer and Lancer were quickly on the defensive, slashing away at the notes in an effort not to get hit by them. Despite their best efforts however several of the notes slipped past and bombarded the pair.
If that weren't enough the musical chord's wrapped themselves around both men, pinning their arms in place leaving helpless before the barrage of musical notes.
Just as Archer thought that this situation couldn't get worse the chorus kicked in. The very air around them a cacophony of noise and small explosions, sending the red clad bowman into the air and slamming into the wall of one of the nearby buildings.
As for Lancer, bound and unable to move he was sent to the floor, skidding across the ground and into the wire fence.
Seeing his chance Ghost quickly removed the Beethoven Damashii, the chords that bound both Archer and Lancer vanishing, and replaced it with the Ore Damashii, once more adorned in the orange and black armor.
"Let's end this…" He muttered as the large glowing orange eye symbol appeared behind him.
DAI KAIGAN: ORE OMEGA DRIVE!
Slamming the handle into the Driver, Ghost then leapt into the air where the energy from the eye flowed around his foot as he performed a flying kick towards Lancer.
Seeing this coming his way Lancer summoned whatever strength his beaten and bruised body had left and managed to narrowly dodge out of the way of the Rider's final attack as he slammed into the ground, the force of his glowing foot creating an explosion upon impact bringing with it a cloud of dust and debris.
Seeing the cloud coming her way Rin shielded used her arms to shield her face, squeezing her eyes tight and holding her breath as she did her best to withstand the dust and debris as it passed over her.
Quickly the dust settled and Rin unshielded her eyes and was met by the sight of Ghost standing in a fair sized crater, smoke still rising up from it. "Such power…" She muttered, "Was that a Noble Phantasm?"
Like Rin, Lancer was also taken aback by the damage done by that last attack. 'D…damn…' he looked on wide-eyed. 'If I'd been hit by that …' "Y'know what, I'm done." He announced as he shakily got to his feet. "Enjoy your victory kid, because next time…" And with those parting words he vanished.
Archer meanwhile had been gathering himself, his whole body crying out of pain he got up and walked over to the crater, taking in the sight of the destruction left behind by Ghost.
Looking up Ghost saw the tanned skinned man standing there, the two of them glaring at one another. Archer summoning two more falchions whilst Ghost raised his tightening fists. Both of them glaring at the other as they waited for the other to make the first move.
"That's enough." Hearing a voice both Archer and Ghost looked round and saw a stern looking Rin walking towards them.
Under his helmet Ghost's eyes widened at the sight of Rin. 'T…Tohsaka…what's she doing here?'
"Archer, we're leaving. It's obvious that we'll need a solid strategy to deal with this one." Rin told her Servant as she approached him. "Let's focus on Lancer, in his current state he should be easy to finish off."
She then shot Ghost a cold look. "Besides, we've gained significant information from this encounter." She continued. "Plus I've seen his Noble Phantasm."
Archer looked over at Ghost, behind his eyes you could see a storm of conflicting emotions brewing inside him as he tried to decide what he should do, just like Shirou had done earlier. Run or fight? Obey his Master and retreat or disobey her and keep fighting the one who had humiliated him.
Biting back his pride Archer walked over to Rin and placed his arm around her shoulders, taking a moment to shoot Ghost with one last menacing glare. "Next time, we'll settle this." And with that he leapt up into the air carrying Rin with him, the pair landing on the roof of the school before and making another leapt that carried them away.
From the ground Shirou watched as the two of them disappeared from sight, reaching into the Ghost Driver he removed the Ore Damashii and his armor disintegrated from his body.
Sometime later Shirou entered the living area of his home and collapsed on to the floor. Following the fight at school he'd limped his way home, leaving his bike behind since he didn't even want to try driving in his current condition.
"Just what was that back there?" He said to himself. "What was Tohsaka doing at the school anyway, and why did go off with that guy in the red coat?"
A soft ringing sound was heard coming from above; opening his eyes Shirou was just in time to see as the spearman from before dived towards him, barely able to roll out of the way of his spear.
"You again." Shirou said sternly as he summoned the Ghost Driver once more.
"I told you I'd get you next time." Lancer replied as he readied his spear for his next strike, "I just never specified when next time would be."
Scowling Shirou pulled out his Ore Damashii and was about to place it into the Ghost Driver when Lancer lunged at him, forcing Shirou stop and dodge out of the way. "Oh no, not going to let you use that little trick again." the blue haired warrior told Shirou before lunging at him again.
Shirou tried his best to stay ahead of Lancer, running from the kitchen and into one of the hallways, his pursuer no doubt close behind. Diving at the window he phased through it and landed in the yard outside, panting heavily he scanned the area for any sign of his pursuer.
"How disappointing." He heard Lancer's voice. "Without that armor of yours you're not as tricky to deal as you were before."
Spinning round Shirou was met by the sight of Lancer's foot seconds before it collided with chest, the force of which sent Shirou flying across the yard and smashing through the door of the storage shed.
Lying amongst the debris of the Shirou panted heavily as his body ached, gritting his teeth he tried desperately to pick himself back up, a trickle of blood pouring from his mouth, hearing the sound of footsteps approaching him.
"Y'know it's weird. I don't sense the slightest trace of Prana inside you." Lancer said offhandedly. "Every living thing on this planet produces Prana to some degree, the only thing that can't is the dead."
"Go to hell." Shirou retorted as he got back up to his feet. Lancer responded by chuckling at this.
"Well look at you," He said, a look of amusement on his face. "One foot in the grave and your still trying to act tough."
"Screw you. I was saved from death as a child; I've got people who count on me. I have goals I need to accomplish." Shirou retorted fiercely, a red symbol appearing on the back of his left hand as he spoke these words. "I will not die here, especially not to bastard like you."
Just as he was about to insert the Ore Damashii into the Ghost Driver a strange blue light suddenly erupted from the ground behind him; looking round he saw a strange symbol that he'd never seen before, the circle and runes giving off an almost blinding light.
"What the hell…" Lancer growled, doing his best to shield his eyes.
The glowing died away and standing there in the circle was a person, a woman with blond hair that was tied up at the back by a braid. Her form clad in an elegant blue battle dress with gleaming armor covering her chest and matching gauntlets on her arms, she seemed to radiate an unyielding aura of confidence and strength, like a queen or a formidable warrior.
Opening her eyes, revealing the most striking green eyes Shirou had ever seen, she took in the sight of Shirou and Lancer who stood before her, both of who wore identical stunned looks on their faces as they gazing upon at her.
"N…no way…" Lancer exclaimed, "The seventh Servant…"
The blond woman fixed her gaze on Shirou, not even acknowledging Lancer's presence. "I ask of thee," She said to him, her voice carrying an air of authority, "Are you my Master?"
Kamen Rider Ghost: Emiya Shirou
Servant: Saber (Artoria Pendragon)
Eyecons Collected: 4 (Musashi Edison Beethoven Newton)
Days Remaining: 71
Next time…
"I am your Servant Saber."
"Rejoice Emiya Shirou, your dearest wish will at last come true."
"This is the second time we've run into each other…Onii-san."
"HENSHIN…"
"Emiya…you're the ghost?"
AN And with that, the first proper chapter for this story is fini.
So yeah your probably wondering why Ghost as its a show that's not exactly popular with majority of the fandom. I know that the show has its fans, and if you do like then more power to ya, but in my opinion Ghost, whilst starting out with an interesting premise it just ended up being a disappointing mess.
I wasn't exactly thrilled with Ghost's first quarter but it was probably the high point of the show (or at the very least the narratively most coherent) and afterwards it was pretty much all down hill from there and more or less devolved into an incoherent mess of half baked ideas, bizarre writing and really bland or out right bad characters. It probably also didn't help that the show had its budget slashed so it could be given to Amazons.
That aside I was still new to Fate at the time when I sat down and started writing this and at the time I thought that the Heroic Icons and the Servants were kind of similar in concept, heroic figures from the past brought to the modern world and, although through different means, are utilized by the heroes. It also probably helped that most of the Eyecon heroes are also Servants that are summonable in Fate/Grand Order.
But yeah unlike the Ryuki and Kiva chapters that pretty much proof of concept, I had an actual plan this story and had figured out a lot of the major plot beats for it. In fact I managed to write five chapters whole chapters of this along with the prologue and since I'm started this little project I figured I'd might as well include them here as part of this series.
So why did this never see the light of day? Honestly part of it was that I was really busy with another project that I'd been working on for long time at the time I conceived of this and getting that finally wrapped up was more of a priority at the time. The other part was me just losing interest, as I was working on my other story this became less and less of a priority. But hey, since I started this little project I figured I'd might as well include it so it doesn't just rot away on a hard drive.
Anyway lets move on, whilst there's more to talk about I can leave that for future chapters.
As pointed out in the chapter itself Shirou has been Ghost for a while prior to the start of this story, whilst you could have had him become Ghost and a Master on the same night I really didn't want to do that. Also having him become Ghost prior to start of the Grail War helps with whole 99 days thing since despite the amount of stuff that goes on during it the Fifth Grail War itself only lasts for, at most, two weeks and whilst you can pad it out I don't think you could get the war itself to last for nearly 100 days. Heck even the show didn't really utilize the whole 99 days thing very well.
So yeah, you don't get to see how Shirou became Kamen Rider Ghost in this one, that gets saved for later. Also no, unlike Takeru Shirou doesn't keep dying and coming back over and over again, nor dose each chapter start with 'My name is Emiya Shirou, one day I was killed by Gamma blah blah blah' as that shit would get old and annoying real quick.
The real bulk of this chapter was the fight between Ghost, Archer and Lancer, I hope you all enjoyed it because I recall it being a challenge to write. I just want to make it clear that Ghost isn't on par with Archer and Lancer, the only real advantage he has is that with all the different Eyecons Ghost is a lot more more versatile, as demonstrated in the chapter itself swapping out Eyecons was the only real way he was able to gain an advantage since he was able to momentarily catch them off guard.
On the other hand most Servants excel at the skills and abilities granted to them by the Class they summoned into but they are limited by it as well. For example if Saber were to trade her Excalibur for Lancer's Gea Bulg and try to fight him with it I kinda doubt she'd be able to wield it as well as he can and vice versa. Of course they are exceptions to this rule, you could say EMIYA is an example of this but then again he's not a quote unquote Real Heroic Spirit so where he counts or not is questionable.
Also you probably noticed that Shirou doesn't get killed by Lancer in this. Then again even if our favorite doggo had managed to stab him it would have mattered since one Shirou's abilities as Ghost is that he can't die. Also if any of you are curious what would happen if Rin tried to use her gem to revive Shirou it wouldn't do anything. In canon Rin was able to get to Shirou pretty quickly after he was stabbed by Lancer so he wasn't dead dead if that makes sense, however if she'd been delayed in getting to him I doubt there would have been anything she could have done for him since he would be gone and in this Shirou up to point has been dead for nearly 30 days.
Atop of that you also got introduced to Rea who is the replacement for Sennin in this story, just as a heads up I'm not using any of the characters from Ghost in this, and despite looking like her she's not Irisviel but there is a reason why she resembles her.
Also for anyone who didn't catch it the motorcycle Shirou has in this story is the same one that Saber used to chase down Iskandar in Fate/Zero. Since it technically belonged to Kiritsugu it only makes sense that Shirou would have inherited it along with everything else.
So that's me done, as always leave a comment and let me know what you thought of this one. Next few chapters of this will be the remaining chapters that I had written for Fate/Kaigan so you get to read the whole thing as it currently exists.
Also a side note recently I've been working on the chapters for OOO which at the time of positing this is about 75% done as well done some work for the chapters based on Gaim and Decade and I gotta say that they've been really fun to work on, can't wait to share them with you with you all once their done.
Till next time, peace out y'all.
