Chapter 2: Invitation to the Grail War!
The glowing died away and standing there in the circle was a person, a woman with blond hair that was tied up at the back by a braid. Her form clad in an elegant blue battle dress with gleaming armor covering her chest and matching gauntlets on her arms, she seemed to radiate an unyielding aura of confidence and strength, like a queen or a formidable warrior.

Opening her eyes, revealing the most striking green eyes Shirou had ever seen, she took in the sight of both the rust haired teen and Lancer who stood before her, both of whom wore identical stunned looks on their faces as they gazing upon at her.

"N…no way…" Lancer exclaimed, "The seventh Servant…"

The blond woman fixed her gaze on Shirou, not even acknowledging Lancer's presence. "I ask of thee," She said to him, her voice carrying an air of authority, "Are you my Master?"

Shirou stared at the woman before him; any response he tried to give seemed to die before he could utter it. "M…Master…" He said, finally finding his voice. "W…who are you?"

The woman took in the sight of the teenager standing before her, taking note of the odd looking devise that was strapped around his waist. "I am your Servant Saber." She told him. "You called out to me and I answered, from henceforth I am yours to command. What do you wish of me Master?"

Shirou was stunned, all this it was too much for him to process all in one go. Summoning? Servants? Just what was all this?

Looking past the young man the woman, Saber, noticed Lancer standing in the doorway of the shed, instantly she recognized him as threat. Raising her arms she grasped something that Shirou could not see, stepped past the still stunned teen and lunged at the spearman her weapon colliding with his.

Now outside the pair unleashed a flurry of blows at one another, Lancer desperate to defend himself from Sabers aggressive assault, all the while cursing his luck. First his brief skirmish with Archer at the school earlier that evening quickly followed by the beating he'd taken from Ghost. Now he found himself having to engage a freshly summoned Saber Servant in his weakened state.

"You dare mock me, hiding your weapon is a sign of cowardice." He barked angrily at his blond haired opponent. "Is that invisible blade your Nobel Phantasm?"

"Who can say Lancer." Saber replied as she once more readied her weapon. "It might be a sword, or maybe a pole arm like yours. Perhaps a battle axe or a bow."

Lancer glared at him woman. Just then a voice entered him mind, giving him a command that only he could hear. "How unfortunate, seems my coward of a Master is recalling me." He told his opponent. He then looked over to Shirou who had been watching the two of them from the doorway of the shed. "Consider yourself warned kid, you and your Servant just made my list."

With that the blue clad man jumped away, bounding over the wall, Saber glaring at him as she watched him retreat. That was until she noticed Shirou approaching her, noticing that the odd looking belt that had been strapped around his waist when she first appeared had vanished. 'Were my eyes deceiving me…?'

"Wh…what the heck was that?" The flame haired teen asked, still flustered by the events that had occurred in rapid succession. "For that matter what the heck are you anyway?"

"As I said, I am your Saber class Servant Master." Saber replied; given the circumstances she was willing to overlook the boy's rather rudely phrased question. "As such I'd appreciate if you would address me as so."

Shirou looked away from her, an uncomfortable look on his face. "P…please don't call me Master," He told her. "I barely qualify as a Mage as it is."

"Very well then," Saber said in a straightforward manner. "If you prefer not to be addressed as Master then may I inquire your name?"

"Me…uhh its Emiya." Shirou replied. "Emiya Shirou."

Saber's eyes widened slightly, her breath catching in her throat. "Emiya…" She whispered; she quickly composed herself. "Then I shall refer to you as Shirou. Yes, I like the sound of that."

Shirou looked away from her, trying process everything. It was then he notice the red brand on the back of his left hand. "Wha…what are these?" He wondered aloud.

"Those are Command Seals," Saber informed him. "I recommend you use them wisely." Just then Saber looked away from him, a serious look on her face. "Shirou, I sense the presence of two individuals drawing near. I shall deal with them."

Like Lancer before her Saber leapt into the air and effortlessly clearing the wall, leaving a stunned and confused Shirou standing there.

Since leaving the school Archer and Rin had been tracking Lancer's movement, something that had not been an easy task as the blue clad Servant's trail had led them all over the city before leading them out to Miyama Town.

'Why would he come all the way out here?' Rin pondered. 'Is he aware that we're on his trail and is leading us on a wild goose chase so we don't learn the identity of his Master? Or could he simply be looking for a meal to recover his strength? Either way surely he needn't have come out this far.'

"Archer, Lancer is nearby." She told her Servant. "Be ready to finish him off."

The moment Archer set her down Rin was running, determined to find the lance-wielding Servant. So focused on this task that she barely heard Archer's warning of a second Servant.

Turning the corner Rin felt a presence, looking up she was in time to see a blue and silver streak coming towards her, moments later Archer appeared and knocked her aside. Standing before the pair was a woman in a blue dress and armor, glaring at the pair with a look of constrained fury.

Rin stared back, taken aback by the imposing woman before her. "I…it's her." She managed to say. "It's the Saber…"

Emerging through the front gate Shirou was met by the sight of Saber engaging the man in red that he'd fought earlier, the kneeling form of Rin close by. 'Those two, what the hell are they doing here?' "Saber, stop…"

No sooner had he spoke these words, the brand on his hand glowed and a similar light emanated around Saber's body momentarily, freezing her in mid stance. "S…Shirou, why…" The blond warrior demanded, "I can easily defeat him…"

"Can someone please tell me just what the hell is going on?" Shirou demanded.

Hearing his voice Rin picked herself up off of the ground. "You really have no idea?" She spoke up, catching the attention of both Shirou and Saber. "Good evening Emiya Shirou, welcome to the Holy Grail War."

A short time later the small group had left the street and, with the exception of Archer, made their way inside, Shirou and Saber as well as Rin currently found themselves seated around the rust haired teens table.

"So what exactly is this Grail War you mentioned?" Shirou asked as he watched as Rin sipped her tea.

"Your so clueless, you have no idea what you've gotten yourself into?" Rin sighed as she set her cup down. "Guess I should start at the beginning. You, Emiya Shirou, have been chosen to be a Master, one of seven. That stigmata on your hand is proof of that."

"Stigmata? You mean this thing?" Shirou asked as he showed her the brand on his left hand.

"Correct, those are spells you can use to control your Servant." Rin replied. "As long as you have at least one you can command Saber. With them you can give orders that she must, without question, adhere to. You used one earlier, when you forced her to stand down."

Looking away from Rin, Shirou glanced down at the brand as he absorbed this new information. "However, you only get three of them for the duration of the war." Rin continued. "So I suggest not using one unless absolutely necessary. As for the war itself, it's a form of ritual combat. Fought by seven Masters, all to obtain the ultimate prize; the Holy Grail."

"Holy…Grail…?" Shirou asked.

"Yes. An omnipotent cup, capable of granting its owner their hearts desire." Rin told him. "The participants of the Grail War fight to the death all to have the chance of claiming it for themselves."

"That's insane." Shioru exclaimed. "Why would they fight over something so…pointless?"

Rin glared at him, a stern look on her face. Who was he, someone who was clueless about everything and seemed only to have been chosen by random chance, to regard something that she and her family had spent generations fighting and bleeding for as pointless?

"Regardless of what you think, I'm merely stating the facts." She said. "Considering you were nearly killed by a Servant tonight, you cannot deny the truth of what I've told you. Although I still can't figure out why Lancer would come all the way out here and just randomly attack you. Unless somehow he was already aware of your status as a Master."

Shirou looked away, rubbing the back of his head. "H…how should I know?" He replied, doing his best to feign ignorance.

From her place at his side Saber glanced over at Shirou, her features impassive. From his body language and tone it was clear his ignorance of the events he found himself was indeed genuine, and yet she could tell her that Master was hiding something, what exactly she couldn't tell. For now she would stay quiet, whatever secret her Master was keeping it was quite obvious he didn't wish to share it in front of his guest.

"Ah well, guess it doesn't really matter right now." Rin said, deciding to get back on topic. "As you can tell I'm also one of the chosen Masters and granted a Servant, which are basically Familiars granted by the Grail."

Hearing this Shirou glanced over at Saber who had been sitting quietly to one side. "A Familiar huh." He muttered. "She doesn't much look like one to me."

"I guess she wouldn't. Whilst technically they counts a Familiars, in truth Servants are super humans." Rin replied. "Heroic individuals from the past summoned to our time to do battle with one another."

"Heroes from the past…" Shirou exclaimed. 'That sounds kinda like the Eyecons, is there some connection there?'

"That's right. They are given form and substance by the Grail, however once summoned it's the job of the Master to make sure they maintain their physical forms." The Tohsaka Mage went on. "They exist here in spirit form and, when needed, can manifest themselves in the material world to fight on their Masters behalf."

"So the asshole currently brooding on my roof can shift from spirit form to physical form at any time." Shirou said, his frown deepening as he recalled his fight with the man in red earlier that night.

Rin raised an eyebrow, curious why he would refer to Archer in such a way. As far as she knew her Servant had not done anything to earn Shirou's ire. "That 'asshole' is my Servant, Archer." She informed him. "And the 'brooding on your roof' as you call it is him keeping watch. Did you get all that? If you want a more detailed explanation I suggest speaking with the overseer, the man charged with overseeing the events of the Grail War."

"I guess." Shirou replied.

"Very good." Rin said before sipping some more of her tea. "Now some things to bear in mind, now that you've been chosen and summoned Saber you've got no choice but to take part in the war. Second as a Servant, Saber is formidable so be sure not to squander her power."

That said Rin drained the last of her cup and shifting her attention to the blond swordswoman. "Now for you Saber," Rin said as she poured herself another cup of steaming liquid. "From what I can tell, given your Master's overall lack of any real skill in Magecraft, it's pretty obvious you're in an incomplete state."

"I'm sitting right here y'know…" Shirou muttered.

"That's right, I'm currently not at full strength." Saber replied, acting as if she'd not heard Shirou's gripe. "Due to Shirou's lack of magical training, replenishing my energy will be difficult."

"Again, sitting right here." Shirou said sounding annoyed. "If you're going insult me, could the two of you at least not pretend I don't exist all of a sudden."

"Huh, I'm surprised you're being so forward about your current condition." Rin said, taken aback by Saber's openness on the subject.

"I can tell you're highly skilled when it comes to Magecraft Lady Tohsaka," Saber told her. "Therefore there's no point in trying to deceive you."

Rin blushed at this. "T…there's no need refer to me as 'Lady Tohsaka' Saber." She told the blond haired Servant. "Whilst I'd much rather you'd call me Master but I don't mind if you call me Rin."

"Either of you want to explain what you two are talking about?" Shirou asked. "I'm getting really lost here."

Rin rolled her eyes. "Once summoned Servants are supplied with Prana from their Masters to maintain their physical forms." She replied offhandedly. "You however, since you lack the training to qualify as a proper Master there's no way Saber can maintain herself properly. Given that fact it's only going to be a problem going forward. Would either of you like some tea?"

"No, I'm good." Shirou replied, doing his best to keep a look of embarrassment off of his face.

"I will also politely decline." Saber added.

"Elegantly put, she really is the King of Knights." Rin commented. Moments later she slammed her cup down on the table and let out a cry of frustration. "Aghhh, this sucks. I should have been the one to summon Saber; with her as my Servant I'd win this war hands down. Why did she have to be wasted on someone like him?"

"And your back to insulting me again." Shirou grumbled. "Did no one teach you its bad manners to talk trash about someone when you're a guest in their home?"

"S…shut up." Rin retorted. She then took a moment to compose herself. "Anyway, we should get moving. It's going to take a while to reach the man who can tell you everything you need to know about the Grail War. You do want to know the reason behind it right?"

"Y…yeah, I guess I do." Shirou replied. "It's just that it's been a long day and it's pretty late as it is."

"Well it's your choice to go or not." Rin said. "What about you Saber, do you want to know what's going on?"

"Hey, don't go ordering her around like she's your property." Shirou fired back. "Besides she can't just go wandering the streets by herself, she'd got no idea how to function in the modern era."

"I appreciate your concern Shirou, however misplaced it is." Saber told him. "When summoned by the Grail, Servants are able to adapt to whatever time period they find themselves in. In fact this isn't the first time I've been called to your time and, whilst things seem to have advanced somewhat since I was last here, I should have no problem navigating your world."

"Y...you've been here before Saber?" Shioru replied, surprise in his voice.

"Whoa, I had no idea." Rin added. "The chances of the same Servant being called twice is nigh impossible."

Saber got to her feet. "Rin, would you please lead us to the man you speak of."

Sometime later the party of three found themselves standing outside the gates of Fuyuki Church located an hour's walk from Shirou's home on the opposite side of the river that ran through the center of the city, given their lack of any transportation it took them a while to arrive.

Shirou stared up at the building. When Kiritsugu was still alive he'd told him to steer clear of this place but would not elaborate as to why. This had confused the young boy, what was so bad about this place that his father seemed scared of it. Now that he was actually here he was beginning to see his late father's point.

Everything about this place seemed so…wrong.

"I wonder why Saber didn't want to come inside with us?" Shirou asked as he and Rin approached the building, glancing back at the gate. The figure of his Servant, now clad in an oversized yellow raincoat, standing in front of it.

"Maybe she's got history with the fake priest." Rin suggested. "She did say she's been to this time period before."

"Fake priest?" Shirou asked, noting the of note disapproval in Rin's voice.

"He used to be my father's pupil, then after his passing he became my guardian." Rin told him. "I guess that makes him both my senior disciple and second mentor."

"Wait, then that would mean that he's also a Mage?" Shirou pointed out.

"Bingo. Before he was made overseer he was also a participant in the previous Grail War." Rin replied as she pushed the doors of the church open. "A genuine Heathen priest."

Entering the building the two teens found themselves in a large room, most of the space taken up by three rows of pews located before an alter at the far end. Standing in front of it stood a man with dirty brown hard, clad in priest's robes, his back turned to the pair.

"It's been some time Rin, I was wondering if you'd ever accept my offer to meet with me." The man said, as he slowly began to turn and face them. "And it seems that you've brought someone with you, may I be so bold and assume that this one is the seventh Master?"

Taking a deep breath Shirou approached the man as he continued talking. "Welcome young man. My name is Kotomine Kirei." The man identified as Kirei introduced himself. "And who might you be, or would you prefer to be referred to as Seventh Master?"

Shirou narrowed his eyes; despite having just met the man named Kotomine Kirei he already disliked him. He could see why Tohsaka chose not to associate with him unless absolutely necessary. "My name is Shirou." He replied. "Emiya Shirou."

For a moment Kirei was taken aback, as if he'd seen a ghost. "Emiya…" He exclaimed. Quickly he composed himself and let out a small chuckle. "And I take it that you have made a pact with the Saber Servant then?"

"That's right." Shirou said bluntly. "But I gotta say all this Grail stuff, it's just a bunch of meaningless jargon. I'm barely a Mage of any real note, not someone you'd want taking part in a war. If I'm honest, I have no real desire to be involved in whatever you've got going on here."

"Y'see he's completely ignorant Kirei." Rin spoke up, her tone disapproving. "You're going to have explain everything from the beginning."

"Is that so, I believe that this is the first time you've asked a favor of me." Kirei said as he began approaching the pair of teens. "Very well. I'm afraid Emiya Shirou that once a Master has been chosen it's impossible for the position to be revoked, nor can it be walked away from. Until you either win the Grail or meet your end, this is a trial that you must bear."

"A trial where seven Magus kill each other over a shiny bauble." Shirou scoffed. "That might be the most ridicules thing I've ever heard."

"You're free to believe that if you wish." Kirei replied casually. "However the purpose of the ritual is to find the one Mage worthy of obtaining the Holy Grail."

"I keep hearing those words being thrown around." Shirou interrupted the man in priest robes. "You can't mean 'thee' Holy Grail? I mean it's just a fairy tale, it can't actually exist?"

"A nonbeliever I see. I can assure you, the Grail that appears in this city is 100% genuine." Kirei said firmly. "The mere fact Saber exists and that you were able to summon her is the proof of its existence. Such a Grail is sure to grant whoever is able to obtain it his or hers deepest desire. Surely you have some desire or goal you wish obtain."

"Your right, I do have a goal I wish to accomplish." Shirou told him "However I don't need the Grail in order to achieve it. Besides, if the Grail is that powerful why the unnecessary bloodshed, why not let everyone use it?"

Kirei didn't say anything at first, once more this boy, this Emiya Shirou, had stumped him. "A fair question. Whilst that's a nice sentiment I'm afraid that it's not possible, only one Master is allowed to possess the Grail." He said, quickly recovering. "These rules were set in place by the Holy Grail itself."

"Wait, it decided that?" Shirou exclaimed.

"Yes. The Grail seeks one who is worthy of it, as such Masters do battle to prove themselves of that worth." Said Kirei. "That is the Holy Grail War."

Shirou glanced down at the brand on his left hand. "That doesn't sit right with me. I get what you mean, however I don't like the idea of having to kill six random strangers who I've never met or have done me wrong."

"Actually that's not quite accurate." Rin spoke up. "There's no iron clad rule stating that Masters have to kill each other."

"Don't be so naïve." Kirei said harshly. "It's a fight to the death."

"Oh hush up Kirei, quit being so moody." Rin retorted before turning her attention back to Shirou. "Look Emiya, the Grail that appears in this trial is a spiritual object. Meaning we as mortals can't actually hold it."

"If it's spiritual then…only Servants can actually touch it." Shirou replied, he then looked back down at his hand again. 'Hold on, what about me? If only spirits can hold it, and I'm a ghost, could I touch it?'

"Correct. The only way to ensure that your Servant is the one to obtain it is by eliminating the Servants contacted by the other Masters." Rin said in a teacher like fashion. "So killing the other Masters isn't necessarily required."

"You disappoint me Rin." Kirei sighed. "Tell me Emiya Shirou, do you believe yourself capable of defeating Saber on your own? Or any other Servant for that matter?"

"What do you mean by that?" Shirou asked, surprised by the man's question.

"By their nature as Heroic Spirits, defeating a Servant is not an easy task to accomplish," The long haired priest replied. "Even for other Servants."

'Tell me about it,' Shirou frowned, wincing slightly. 'I'm still sore from fighting Lancer and Archer earlier tonight.'

"Since that's the case tell me, what would be the soundest strategy to defeat a Servant?" Kirei asked him.

Shirou's frown deepened. "The best way would be taking out the Master." He answered. "But what happens to a Master when their Servant is killed? They pretty much lose all value to the War right."

"Incorrect. A Master with no Servant is able to rejoin the fight by forming a pact with a Masterless Servant. Provided they still possess Command Seals of course." Kirei informed him. "It is for this reason that Masters target one another."

"Ok then, if that's the case what if it were to use up my last two Command Seals right now?" Shirou asked, holding up his left hand. "Saber has to obey any order I give her using them right?"

Rin stared at him, unable to believe the words that had come from his mouth. Was he serious, would he really throw away his Command Seals so easily?

"You catch on rather quick. You're within your rights to do so, although I can't think of any respectable Mage that would." Kirei said as he walked amongst the pews. "Anyone who would do so would either be a fool or a coward, unworthy of the honor presented to them."

Shirou's frown twisted itself into a scowl at the man's tone.

"However if that is your decision then so be it. Use your Command Seals on any frivolous thing you can think of and break your pact with Saber." Kirei went on. "As overseer part of my role is to offer shelter to those Masters who have been eliminated. You shall be safe here until the battles conclude."

"No thanks." Shirou fired back. "Why exactly would I need you to protection anyway?"

"My role here is to observe the events of each new Holy Grail War." Kirei replied. "The role of overseer comes with many duties, safeguarding defeated Masters is one of them."

"Hold on, did you said 'each new Grail War'?" Shirou blurted out. "There's been more than one?"

"That is correct, this'll be the Fifth War." Kirei informed him. "The Fourth War ended ten years ago, making this the shortest period of time between Grail Wars. Driven by their desires, the Masters fight one another brutally, each new war has become more vicious then the one before it. Some Masters even as going so far as committing act of indiscriminate slaughter, all for a chance of claiming the prize as their own."

"This is insane…" Shirou said, unable to believe what he was hearing. "W…what happens if the guy who wins the Grail is a total psycho?"

"It's not our place to decide who is worthy of winning the Grail, nor to question their motives and desires." Kirei replied. "It is after all an omnipotent wish granting cup, capable of granting any wish. If your so fixated on preventing it from falling into undesirable hands then perhaps you should instead go out and win it for yourself, to ensure that it's not claimed by, as you say, 'a total psycho'."

Shirou glared at the man, every passing second he was hating the mess he found himself in more and more. 'Should I do this? With Saber and my power as Ghost I could stand a chance of winning but…I already have enough on my plate dealing with the Gamma and hunting down the Eyecons.' He wracked his brain searching for an answer. 'Then there's the fact that Tohsaka and the other Masters don't have the handicap of a time limit on their life, is it even be possible to find all the remaining Eyecon as well as track down and defeat all the other Masters and their Servants in 71 days? '

"If you still have no desire to participate then apparently you also don't care if whoever wins the Grail brings about misery and suffering as a result of their actions." Kirei said, seeing the conflict on Shirou's face and clearly amused by it. "Even if the events of 10 years ago were to repeat themselves?"

"T…ten years ago?" Shriou replied, confused by the man's words.

"I speak of course of the Great Fuyuki fire." Kirei said plainly. "The disaster that claimed the lives of over 500 people was the result of the climax of the Fourth Holy Grail War, all because someone unworthy got his hands on the Grail. You already know the consequences of his wish."

Shirou couldn't breathe, his legs gave out beneath him as he leaned against one of the pews to support himself. To this day he could still feel the heat of the flames, the hot air and ash in his lungs, the smell of burning materials and flesh in is nose and sounds of screams filling his ears.

All of it brought about because of one man, the man who had gotten his hands on the Holy Grail.

Taking a moment to pull himself together he looked back up at Kirei. "This…this war is the fifth one right?" He managed to say, "Has anyone actually won this damn thing?"

"To my knowledge there is one person who did in deed get his hands on the Grail, even if it was only for a fleeting moment. Nothing happened, the Grail never achieved completion." Kirei informed him. "Damned fool that he was let his sentiment get the better of him. In any case just getting the Grail to appear isn't enough and whilst it is not required to eliminate the other Masters, the Grail cannot achieve full completion unless you do so. It is for that reason the man, who spent much of the previous war hiding, did not achieve victory and claim the Grail."

"Put simply, the Grail is pointless unless you're the last man standing." Rin added. "It just means that the man who won last time was a total weakling."

"That's all the information I have for you." Kirei concluded. "However, whether you chose to participate in the Holy Grail War is still to be determined. So what's it to be Emiya Shirou?"

A short time later both Shirou and Rin had exited the church and were heading to meet back up with Saber. All the while Kirei watched the pair from the doorway.

"Rejoice Emiya Shirou, your dearest wish will at last come true." He spoke up. "Surely you realize that you cannot achieve your goals without a great evil to overcome. After all a hero is only such if they have a villain to oppose."

With that he turned on his heel and walked back inside, closing the door behind him. Shirou and Rin kept walking and soon met back up Saber again.

"Shirou, is your business here concluded?" The blond woman asked as she watched the pair approach her.

"Yeah, we're done here." Shirou replied. "Look Saber, I've made a decision. I will be a Master and fight in this war."

"I see." Saber nodded.

"So how about is Saber," Shirou asked. "I know I'm not a proper Mage like Tohsaka but will you fight by my side through all this craziness?"

Saber shook her head in amusement. "Shirou, you needn't ask. From the moment that you summoned me, unorthodox as it was, I already thought of you as my Master." She told him. "For as long as you have Command Seals, I am your blade and shall stand at your side, ready to face off against any foe."

"Ok then, looks like we're doing this." Shirou said as her offered his hand. "Let's fight until the end, whatever that may be."

Saber stared at the teen's outstretched appendage, a stunned look on her face. 'Shirou, you're nothing like Kiritsugu was…' She thought. 'Could a man like that really have you for a son?'

"Something wrong Saber?" Shirou asked; sounding a little confused. "Did they not shake hands back in your time or something?"

"N…no, nothing like that. I just…I wasn't expecting such a thing." Saber told him. She then took his hand into her own and gave it a firm squeeze. "I renew my vow to you Emiya Shirou, from this moment on I am your sword and will use all my power to ensure you achieve your wish."

"That's good to hear I guess." Shirou said as the two of them released their grip on the other. "Errm Saber, there's something I need to talk to you about."

"I see." Saber replied. "Very well then, what do you wish to tell me Shirou?"

Shirou glanced back at Fukyuki Church, his face twisting into a scowl at the sight of it. "I'd rather not do it here if that's alright with you." He told her. "I'll tell you when we get home ok."

His guests now gone, Kotomine Kirei closed his eyes as he leaned against the door of the church. "They've gone." He said to the seemingly empty room. "You can show yourself now."

Moments later a portion of air located in one of the pews shimmered and Lancer came into view. "Finally, I'd thought they'd never leave." He said off handedly. "Y'know you should count yourself lucky, when that kid appeared you have no idea just how much willpower it took for me not appear behind him and shove my spear up his ass."

"Your restraint is duly noted." Kirei said as he approached the alter. "Lancer, I have a new assignment for you."

"Oh goody, more spying. This is such a waste of my skills." Lancer groaned. "Alright, who do you want me keep tabs on this time?"

"I want you to go and observe Emiya Shirou." Kirei told the Servant of the Spear.

"The kid?" Lancer replied cocking an eyebrow. "I mean sure, but I gotta ask what's your sudden interest in him?"

"It could be nothing," Kirei said as he ran a hand over the surface of the alter. "Although something that he said during our meeting, it intrigues me."

"Your right, I do have a goal I wish to accomplish. However I don't need the Grail in order to achieve it."

"A way to achieve his goal that does not require the Grail. What is this goal and what means could he have found to achieve it without the Grail's power?" He muttered to himself. He then turned to his Servant. "Go watch him but do not engage him and his Servant. Find out what you can about him."

Elsewhere the threesome of Shirou, Saber and Rin were walking along the street that led away from the church, each of them lost in their own thoughts.

"Alright, this is where we part ways." Rin spoke up her tone firm. "I trust that the two of you can make it back to Emiya's place by yourselves."

Her words brought both Shirou and Saber to a halt. "Is something wrong Tohsaka?" Shirou asked, surprised at the tone of her voice.

"I brought you to see the Heathen priest because you weren't technically my enemy," Rin told him, doing her best to sound stoic. "However now that you've agreed to become a Master that's all changed."

"You make it sound like I'm about to try something underhanded." Shirou replied. "To be honest I see no reason why we have to be enemies at all."

Before Rin could say anything the air shimmered and Archer appeared at his Master's side, fixing Shirou with a cold look. "Rin, whilst I did not approve of you simply not letting me cut this idiot down when we first met I could understand your logic." He said in stern tone. "However now that the situation has changed I cannot agree with simply letting him live and possibly become a problem later when you could just easily eliminate him right now."

"It's not that simple Archer. Like it or not I owe Emiya for not just letting Saber kill us both earlier." Rin retorted. "And if there's one thing I can't stand it's being indebted to someone, so until I've paid it I'm not going to be able to fight him with a clear conscious."

"Huh, that seems uncharacteristically nice of you Tohsaka." Shioru said, surprised by the pigtailed girls words.

Rin glared at him. "Don't get the wrong idea Emiya." She snapped. "I'm being generous right now, but once the sun rises considered my debt to you is paid in full."

Archer sighed in frustration. "I have a marshmallow for a Master." He grumbled. "Fine then, if that's the case then let me know when this debt is paid." And with that he vanished once again.

Seeing this Shirou shook his head in amusement. "I think I see how it is. You sure are an interesting one Tohsaka Rin." He said, letting out a small chuckle. "You put up a cool front but deep down you're actually a caring person. I gotta admit, I think I like that about you."

Rin stared at him as her cheeks turned a shade of pink, eyes wide and mouth agape unable to say or do anything in response to Shirou's words. It was as if her brain had shut down.

"Well, Saber and I better get going, today's been a long one." Shirou said casually. "Guess I'll see you around Tohsaka."

Just as she was about to follow Shirou, Sabers eyes widened as she felt the presence of somebody close by. Quickly she turned to face this new threat, taking up a defensive stance in front of both her Master and Rin.

"So, are you all done chatting?" Hearing this new voice both Shirou and Rin looked round and were met by the sight of a small girl with red eyes and silvery white hair clad in a purple coat and matching hat, a white scarf around her neck.

However it was the hulking goliath of a man clad only in a leather skirt standing next to her that drew their attention, standing what looked to be 8 feet tall his skin was unnaturally dark, a large stone weapon that looked to a combination of a sword and axe in one hand and staring down at the trio with a look of murder on its face.

"T…that's Berserker…" Rin managed to say, clearly both terrified of the giant as well confusion at how these two had managed to sneak up on them so easily.

"Good evening to you all." The girl said, a smile on her face as she focused her gaze on Shirou. "This is the second time we've run into each other…Onii-san."

"Hey, hold on." Shirou spoke up as he recognized the small girl in front of him. "It's you." Now that he had a good look at her he couldn't help but notice that this girl looked like a much younger version of Rea.

"Hold on a second," Rin said, Shirou's words snapping her out of her fear induced stupor. "You know her?"

"Sorta," Shioru replied. "I ran into her the other night."

Under her hood an uncomfortable look appeared on Sabers face. As much as she didn't want to believe it there was no denying that standing before her was the daughter of Emiya Kiritsugu and Irisviel von Enizbern.

The girl then stepped forward and curtsied. "It's nice to meet you Rin." She greeted the Tohsaka Mage. "My name is Illyasviel, Illyasviel von Einzbern. Your no doubt familiar with that name."

"Enizbern…" Rin muttered. "Yeah, you could say I'm familiar with your family name."

"Rin, what are your orders?" The Tohsaka heiress hearing the disembodied voice of Archer in her head. "This is one Servant that we cannot take lightly. It could fight the other six all at once and still come out victorious."

"You don't need to tell me that. This thing, it eclipses Saber in raw strength alone." Rin retorted. "Archer, its best you play to your classes strengths. The three of us should hopefully be enough to hold him off long enough for you to find a good vantage point."

Shirou meanwhile was staring at Berserker, its gaze alone seemed to enough to make his heart skip several beats. Even the Gamma he had faced so far couldn't compare to this towering mass of muscle and flesh. For the second time tonight he was presented with two options: run or fight.

'Screw it, now that I'm a Master I wasn't going to be able to hide this from them much longer anyway…' Balling his fists and gritting his teeth, Shirou ran past Saber and positioned himself between her and giant man before them, this action catching the others by surprise. Even Archer had stopped dead in his tracks by this.

"Shirou, get back." Saber called out as she approached him with the intent to position herself in front of him.

"Is he insane?" Rin blurted out. "Does he really think he can take on Berserker by himself?"

"What's this?" Illya said, surprised by Shirou's unexpected action. "Are you really so eager to die?"

"Shirou what are you thinking?" Saber demanded as she pulled up alongside him. "It's not your place to involve yourself in a battle between Servants. I told you it's my role to engage the enemy, not yours."

"I can't do that Saber, I won't do that." Shirou retorted, his voice defiant. "I may not be in this mess by choice, but now that I'm part of this war I can't run away. I will not stand on the sidelines and watch as you fight alone, I'm going to fight with you."

With those words he summoned the Ghost Driver around his waist and whipped out his Ore Damashii, clicking the button on the side.

'That belt again, I wasn't imaging it…' Saber thought as she watched her Master place the Ore Damashii inside the belt and close the lid.

EYE! BATCHIRIMINA…BATCHIRIMINA…BATCHIRIMINA…BATCHIRIMINA…

'That noise…' Rin thought, recalling the events that had transpired at the school only hours before. 'It's the same one I heard back at the school…but that…that would mean…'

All gathered watch as in surprise and confusion as the Pantheon Reflector emerge from the belt around Shirou's waist, the ghostly material flittering around the area before positioning itself above Shirou who had assumed his ninja like transformation pose.

"HENSHIN…" Shirou declared as he slammed the leaver into the Ghost Driver, his armor appearing on his body seconds before the Pantheon Reflector draped itself over him, completing his transformation.

KAIGAN: ORE LETS GO! KAKUGO! GHO-GHO-GHO-GHOST! GO! GO! GO! GO!

'W…what is this, some kind of Magecraft taught to him by Kiritsugu?' Saber wondered, trying to comprehend what she was seeing as the now armored Shirou pulled back his hood to reveal the mostly orange faceplate with the single horn and two large black eyes. 'Shirou, is this what you wanted to talk to me about?'

"Emiya," Rin managed to say as she stared wide-eyed at the back of the armored figure. "You're the ghost?"

From his potion further down the street a rematerialized Archer had watched as Shirou had taken on his armored form. Never for a moment could he predicted that the one he hated and the ghost he'd fought earlier that evening were one and the same. "You…"

"What's going on, how did I not know about this?" Illya muttered to herself. Quickly her surprised expression changed into a frown. "Just who the hell are you?"

"That's kind of a long story " Ghost replied as he snatched up the Gan Gun Saber as it emerged from the Driver. "As for who I am, you call me…Kamen Rider Ghost."

"These creatures, what are they?"

"You've got a lot of explaining to do Emiya."

"Let me tell you a story, let me tell you about the day I died."

AN And like that the another chapter in this series as well the second instalment of Fate/Kaigan as it exists.

So yeah this one is virtually identical to F/SN with a few minor changes and not much really happens after Saber got summoned and is mostly exposition. Then again even in the canon F/SN story this whole section pretty much exists to be the obligatory info dump provided by Rin and Kirei to explain to Shirou, and by proxy the audience, what the Grail War is.

Probably the biggest change to the canon story in this chapter is that Lancer never got the chance to use his Noble Phantasm on Saber, meaning that this time around she has no idea who he is.

So yeah, Shirou has summoned Saber, been informed about the Grail War and met Kirei and is currently staring down both Illya and Berserker. Plus Rin, Saber and Archer have learned about him being Ghost.

Before I sign off I guess I'll address a couple of things. First I got PM from someone asking me if I'm going to take request or challenges, my answer is probably not as I'm focusing on my own stuff right now. However if any any of you have any ideas that you want to share I won't say no but I make no promises that I'll use any of them. That being said any ideas you might want to share might help give me some ideas for future installments.

Second to the guest reviewer that asked if I'd write something that had Ritsuka from F/GO with the powers of Decade, uhhh that story already exists for you to go and read right now.

And with that I'm done for this installment. It feels weird that that I'm signing off and the AN at the end isn't a giant wall of text. As always leave a comment and let me know what you all thought about it about this, yeah I know not a whole lot of new stuff in this one but I'm still curious. We're 2 chapter of out 5 (technically 6) of this little sub series.

Once chapter 3 is published I'm thinking of posting one of the other one shots that I've already got ready to go. Also on a side note the OOO chapter is 85% done, the Decade and Gaim ones however are proving to be a little more challenging to write than expected, certainly their probably going to be longer than I originally thought but they'll get done even if they take longer than expected. Also I don't know if anyone would be interested an idea that popped into my head recently was a chapter that featured a crossover with Den-O but I gotta admit that its kinda wacky but if you want to see it of I'll write it, it might take a while though.

Till next time, peace out y'all.
