Case 0: Prelude to War/Two Master's in One
The city of Fuyuki, a fair sized city located along the coast in the Ōita Prefecture. The city split into two different districts, divided by the river Mion that ran through the center of the city. Shinto where the business was dominated by large and modern looking skyscrapers and Miyama which was made of more traditional style buildings.
Located in the northwest of Miyama Town was a sizable suburban area. Amongst the many homes that lined the street stood a sizable estate, its design traditionally Japanese, and whilst many of the residence had since retired for the evening in an unassuming work shed connected to the estate located someone was hard at work.
Inside the building a young man with busy sweeping the concrete floor, doing his best to sweep away as much dust that covered it as he could after clearing away various boxes containing items and junk that he'd shoved off into a corner in preparation.
Taking a deep breath the rust haired teen wiped some sweat off of his brow as he admired his handy work. "Yosh, floors swept. The necessary preparations are done and my Prana is should be at its peak." He said to himself. "All that's left is to perform the ritual itself."
"Working hard as always Shirou." A voice from an unseen person spoke up. "Watching you is quite tiring.
Seated upon a set of stairs that was connected to the upper level of the building was a young man, their head covered by a hood, his attention fixed upon an open leather bound book that lay open in his hand. "Gotta be done Aibou." Shirou replied. "This Servant isn't exactly going to summon themselves."
"Hmmm, the Holy Grail War. A ritual where Seven Magi summon heroes from the past all to compete in order to obtain an artefact they call the Holy Grail." The hooded boy mused. "I'm honestly surprised that you of all people would agree to be part of such a contest Shirou."
"Don't get me wrong I have no desire for the Grail itself. In fact the whole idea of having to go and potentially kill six other random strangers turns my stomach." Shirou said firmly as he rested his broom against the wall. "But, according to Kotomine, there's a good chance that our enemy will be in some way involved in it."
"Kotomine Kirei…" The hooded boy said offhandedly, as if the name left a bad taste in his mouth. "You're certain that we can trust this man will be true to his word?"
Shirou couldn't help but scoff at this. "I trust him as much as I trust Shroud." He replied.
"So not in the slightest then." The mystery boy said, turning to a new page as he did so.
"No. I don't trust of either them." Shirou said firmly. "For all we know Kotomine could just be stringing us along, but I get the feeling that the only way we're going to find out for sure is by taking part."
"Hmmm, a classic catch twenty two." The hooded youth replied, rubbing his chin thoughtfully as he did so. "And what about the participants of the Grail War, you really think that they'd be interested in Gaia Memories or that their presence would attract the attention of our enemies?"
Shirou looked his away, turning his attention to the magic circle engraved into the floor. "Based on what my old man told me a lot of Mages are motivated by power, the lower rank ones want it and the higher ranked ones want even more." He told his partner. "Plus, even if they're not involved directly, you really think our enemy would pass up the chance to make deals with a group of powerful individuals who just so happen to waltz into town, especially if they have no qualms or care for the lives of innocent bystanders."
"Hmmm, I see your point." The hooded boy said thoughtfuly. Snapping the book shut, he then rose to his feet and descended the stairs. "Very well then, if must be part of this little scheme then we might as well give it our all."
"Are you sure we'll be able to summon that Servant aibou?" Shirou asked as his partner drew closer, cocking his eyebrow. "According to you we need a catalyst to get the best results and we don't exactly have one."
A smirk spread across the hooded boys face. "Oh don't you worry about that." He replied as he held up his book and tapped a finger against the cover. "You just leave that part to me."
Just then a loud noise filled the air, both boys looking over to a nearby desk on which an alarm clock sat, the device informing them that it was almost midnight. "60 seconds and counting Shriou." The hooded youth said to the rust haired teen. "Last chance to back out."
A small smirk graced Shirou's lips. "No way." He replied. "Let's do this."
"Well alright then," The mystery boy said. "Let's go summon your Servant."
Shirou shook his head. "You mean 'our' Servant aibou." He told the boy across from him.
With that said both of them began walking towards the magical circle, Shirou stopping by the workbench and grabbed something from it whilst the hooded boy placed his book in the middle of the circle before he stepped back out of the circle, as he did so he reached up and pulled his hood back to reveal the face of Matou Shinji.
With everything in place Shirou assumed his place before the circle, glance over at Shini who stood across from him. "You remember the incantation I taught you?" Shinji asked, Shirou nodding his head. "Alright then, let us proceed." With that he closed his eyes and extended his left arm out before him.
Taking a deep breath Shirou knelt down and traced the tips of his fingers across the outer ring of the magic circle. "Trace on…" He muttered, channeling his Prana into the circle and causing it to give off an ominous green glow.
That done he then rose back up and holding out the item that he'd picked up, droplets of a metallic like substance dripping out from it, and began chanting.
"Silver and iron to the origin. Gem and the archduke of contracts to the cornerstone. The ancestor is my great master Schweinorg." He announced as he recited the incantation, the substance he dripped on the ground spread outwards and traced itself along the design of circle below, the green light given off by the magic circle growing brighter as he did so until it illuminated the interior of the shed.
"The alighted wind becomes a wall. The gates in the four directions close, coming from the crown, the three-forked road that leads to the kingdom circulate." He continued, more droplets of the metallic like substance dripping out onto the ground, "Shut (fill). Shut (fill). Shut (fill). Shut (fill). Shut (fill). Repeat every five times. Simply, shatter once filled."
The green light given off by the circle became to steadily more intense the rust haired teenager said the incantation, its colour shifting from eerie green to a fiery red. All of a sudden a rush of wind kicked up, loose pieces of paper and various lose items were kicked up into the air.
At the same moment the book that Shinji had placed in the center of the circle suddenly fell open, its pages rustling as sparks from the magic circle coursed all around it.
"I announce. Your self is under me, my fate (doom) is in your sword. In accordance with the approach of the Holy Grail, if you abide by this feeling, this reason, then answer." As he spoke these words Shirou felt a sensation in his outstretched left hand, glancing over he noticed that a red brand was beginning to take form there.
At the same time, as the spiraling magic that surrounded him began to slow, and it now formed a tornado like shape, Shirou felt another sensation, this one coming from his chest, as if something from within was calling out to him.
Gritting his teeth he fought back against it, doing his best to push it back. Looking up he glanced over at Shinji, seeing that the seaweed haired boy's eyes were closed and arms outstretched either side of him with hs palms facing up, an ominous light illuminating his face.
Shinji was doing his part, using his connection to the Worlds Library to call forth the Servant that they had decided upon, Shirou steeled himself, knowing that he needed to stick to the plan. 'No…no…we…I…don't need you…'
"Here is my oath. I am the one who becomes all the good of the world of the dead, I am the one who lays out all the evil of the world of the dead." He continued, a look of focus and determination on his face, using every part ounce of his will to push back against the sensation that resonated within him. "You, seven heavens clad in three words of power, Arrive from the ring of deterrence, O keeper of the balance!"
All of a sudden there was a powerful surge of light and energy erupted from the magic circle, one strong enough to knock both boys backwards and off of their feet, Shirou quickly placing one of his forearms in front of his eyes in an effort to shield his eyes from the blinding light.
Eventually the light died away, removing his arm away from his face Shirou's eyes widened and his breath caught itself in his throat as he was greeted by the sight of someone standing in the center of the Magic Circle.
Standing before him was a young woman who looked to be of European decent, clad with blond hair that was tied back into a ponytail, her forehead adorned with a silver ornament that was vaguely M shaped, her petite looking form clad in an outfit that was a combination of gleaming armor and white material, a sheathed rapier at her side. In one of her armor coated hand she held a long pole arm that had a length of material wrapped around it as well as his partner's book in the other.
"Greetings, you called out for aid and I have answered." She said, opening her eyes, revealing to Shirou two pools of the deepest blue that he'd ever seen, offering the rust haired teen a warm smile. "I take it that you are my Master."
"Uhh…uhhh, ye…yeah, that's right." Shirou replied, doing his best to keep himself composed as he picked himself up off of the floor. "It…it's nice to meet you, I hope that we'll be able to work well together."
"Jeanne D'Arc," Shinji spoke up as he walked out from behind the newly arrived Servant and towards Shirou, snatching his book from her as he did so. "The Saint of New Orleans and leader of the French army in the war with Britain in 1429."
The blond Servant, now revealed to be Jeanne D'Arc stared at the hooded boy, shocked that her identity had been revealed so casually. "H…how…" She stammered. "M…Master, who is this…"
"Oh, this is Shinji. He and I work together." Shirou said. "As such you'll be also be taking orders from him if I'm not available, I hope that's not going to be a problem?"
"It's nice to meet you Jeanne," Shinji said, glancing up from his book. "Y'know Shirou here wanted to summon Miyamoto Musashi as our Servant, however I managed to convince him that you were the much more logical choice."
"I…I see." Jeanne said, a little unsure of what to make of the situation that she just then a found herself in. Just then a questioning look of appeared on the blond Servants face. "Wait, that is strange…" she muttered.
"Jeanne-san, is something wrong?" Shirou inquired, sounding a concerned at what it could be that was bothering such a powerful warrior who also just so happened to look like a seventeen year old girl.
"Forgive me Masters, an unexpected irregularity has occurred." The blond haired girl replied. "It appears that, somehow, I have been summoned here under the class of Saber."
"That is odd." Shinji said thoughtfully, rubbing his chin as he glanced over at Shirou. "Perhaps that item in your chest has something to do with it."
"Master…" Jeanne said sounding confused. "What is this item that…other Master is referring to?"
"Long story, the short version is that my late father implanted an artefact of great power inside me to save my life." Shirou informed her, "Getting back on topic Jeanne-san, is being a Saber Servant going to be a problem for you?"
Jeanne quickly shook her head. "I'll admit that I'm more used to being a Ruler class Servant however I'm no stranger to wielding a sword." She said in a determined tone. "I promise to fight to the very best of my abilities Master."
Shirou stared at his newly summoned Servant, taken aback a little by her insistence. "Ohh…oh ok then." He said, glancing over at Shinji who already had his head once again buried in his book. "Also none of this Master stuff, I barely qualify as a Mage and honestly I'm not really all that comfortable with the idea, sides someone might get the wrong idea if you called me that in public."
Composing himself Shirou then extended his hand out towards her. "My name is Emiya Shirou." He said, introducing himself to the blond haired Servant. "It's nice to meet you Jeanne-san, I look forward to working with you."
Jeanne smiled. "It's nice to meet you too Shirou, I will do my best to aid you and your partner in any way that I can." She said as she took his hand into hers. "Also, if it's alright with you, I request that when we go out that you refer to me as Saber. It's a good idea for Servants to keep their true names a secret, as not to give our enemies an advantage."
"Ok, I can agree to that." Shirou said, he and the French Servant gave the others hand a small squeeze before they released their grip on the other. "Anyway, we've got a lot of work to do. There's six other Masters and Servants we'll have to deal with as well at some point as well as handling Gaia Memories and Dopants, I hope we're up to the challenge."
Hearing this Jeanne cocked her head to the side. "Gaia…Memory…Dopant?" She said in a confused tone. Strange, usually her connection to the Holy Grail would grant her an understanding of the era in which she found herself, however for some reason these words were alien to her. "Forgive me Mas…Shirou however I am not familiar with these terms."
"Gaia Memories are devices that derive their power from the memories of the very planet itself, a person that uses the Memory gains the ability to use its power." Shinji explained. "However the only way to use the power of that Memory is by inserting it into their body via a special connection point that is imprinted on their skin which in turn warps and mutates their bodies. We refer to the individuals that use Memories in this way as Dopants."
"H…how horrible." Jeanne said, covering her mouth with her hands as she did so, shocked at what she had learned. "But if these devices can do what you claim why would anyone want to use them?"
"Power Jeanne-san. People want it and the more desperate someone is the more likely that they'll seek it out to use it, regardless of the consequences or lives they destroy in the process, theirs or other peoples. There's also a little more to it. Gaia Memories contain a toxin inside them, one that makes them highly addictive. The more the person that has one uses it the more hooked on it they become." Shirou said firmly. "Somewhere in Fuyuki there's a group who has set up shop and have been spreading these Gaia Memories throughout the city. Shinji and I have been dealing with them for a year now."
"This is terrible." Jeanne said, still shocked. "But, as the site of the Holy Grail War, surely this town has both a Second Owner and an Overseer. How could they have allowed a group like that to take up residence here and allow their activities to go on unpunished?"
"Who knows, the organization hasn't exactly kept their activities quiet." Shirou shrugged. "And whilst I can't speak for the current Second Owner I have it on good authority that the previous one wasn't exactly good at his job. As for the Overseer, he could honestly care less about the damage done to the people of this city. He probably gets off on it if you ask me."
Jeanne was about to say something when her head suddenly snapped to the side, her face assuming a firm look as she stared off in that direction. "Shirou, I sense the presence of another Servant nearby." She announced. "Wait, make that two Servants and they're drawing closer."
"Two Servants…" Shirou frowned. "I was hoping that we wouldn't have to deal with them so soon."
"Then it's quite fortunate that I was already finished with the repairs." Shinji said as walked over to a nearby work bench, grabbed something that was rest on it and tossing the item over to Shirou who effortlessly caught it. "Here, you might be needing this."
Shirou let out a sigh as he stored away the devise that his partner had tossed to him. "Yosh," He said before he grabbed a jacket that hanging from a peg located near the door. "Come on, let's check this out…Saber."
Tohsaka Rin was not in a good mood tonight.
Scratch that, her patience had pushed to its limits ever since she summoned the Servant whom currently had an arm wrapped around her as they glided through the night air in pursuit of their prey.
Not only hadn't she summoned her preferred class of Servant, that being the Saber, her newly acquired Archer Servant was proving to be something of a snarky and at times disrespectful piece of work.
OK, maybe she was being a little hyperbolic. In light of his arrival, since there wasn't a whole lot she could do now that he was here, she'd resigned herself to make the best of this arrangement, and if she was honest the tanned skinned man was pretty amicable once the proper ground rules were set.
The day had started off perfectly fine, she and Archer had spent the day touring Fuyuki so that he could get a good lay of the land that soon enough would be transformed into a battlefield.
As night fell over the city both Master and Servant noticed a presence that was tailing and, after making a detour to a more secluded area, she demanded that their mystery pursuer to reveal themselves. That is how they had met Lancer, another Servant that had been summoned to take part in the Holy Grail War.
Having revealed himself it didn't take long before a fight between Lancer and Archer broke out, Rin standing in awe as she watched the two super humans engaged one another. Their speed and proficiency with their chosen weapon beyond anything a human could hope to accomplish. It was only thanks to flooding her senses with Prana that Rin had been able to keep track of them.
The skirmish between the two Servants didn't last long however, it couldn't have been more than a few minutes into the fight when Lancer's mystery Master had ordered their Servant to retreat, something that had visibly annoyed the blue clad Servant of the Spear greatly. It didn't take a genius to figure out that it was Lancer's Master ordering him to retreat.
Before he begrudgingly withdrew however, a smirk suddenly appeared on Lancer's face as he turned back to look at her and Archer, daring the both of them to follow after him.
Thus leading to the situation in which she found herself, Archer leaping from rooftop to rooftop in the residential part of Miyama Town hot on the heels of Lancer whom she could only imagine was enjoying their little game of cat and mouse judging by the occasional taunt he would throw at them.
As the chase continued something in the corner of Rin's vision caught her attention, snapping her head in that direction the dark haired Magus saw bright surge of light coming from close by, most likely one of the homes that lined the area.
Having experienced such a phenomenon herself there was no doubt in Rin's mind that this was the summoning of a new Servant. Clearly Lancer was thinking the same thing as he suddenly changed cause and began heading in the direction of where the flash of bright light had come from.
"Archer…" Rin told her Servant who merely nodded in response before he too made a beeline towards the area where the flash of light had come from.
Within no time Archer's feet touched the solid ground, running through the deserted streets until both he and Rin finding Lancer standing before the entrance of a large estate, the gates of which were firmly closed.
"Oh, there you are Archer." Lancer said, looking over in both Archer and Rin's direction. "For a moment there I was beginning to wander if you'd lost interest in our little game."
"We're not here to play games with you Lancer, case you forgot you're the one who wanted us to chase you." Rin snapped at him. "Are you here to fight the Servant that was just summoned?"
"Bingo." The Irish Servant replied, his tone of voice not dissimilar to a kid at Christmas, "Just happening to be in area as the last one was summoned, it's too good of an opportunity to pass up."
He then shifted his blood red eyes over to Archer who looked back at him, a frown etched into his tanned face. "What about you Archer, You can't tell me that you aren't curious to meet our new friend." Lancer smirked. "I just hope whoever he is that he can put up a good fight."
All of a sudden the double doors that had blocked the large estate from the outside were wrenched open and moments later a figure from within stepped forward. Despite herself Rin couldn't help but find herself in awe of this person, despite their youthful look it was clear to even her that this person was no stranger to the battlefield and judging by her appearance there was no doubt in the Tohsaka heiress's mind that this person was the newly summoned Servant.
Lancer meanwhile was staring back at this newcomer with a cocked eyebrow, clearly this wasn't what he had been expecting when he'd sensed the new Servant being summoned. Then again, whilst she might not look like much, this individual was still a Servant and as the saying went 'never judge a book by its cover', she might just be able to provide him with a decent fight.
"Wha…what the…" Just then the sound of Archer muttering something caught Lancer's attention, glancing over the blue clad spear wielder noticed the stunned look on Archer's face as he stared at the blond woman that was standing in the entranceway. "That's not Saber…"
"Please, I understand that as Servants we are supposed to do battle with one another but in this case I ask of thee to please leave this place," Saber said to the small party that she found herself standing before, taking a few steps forward as she did so. "We need not shed blood here if it is not necessary."
"Well said Saber." Shirou said as he emerged from the gate and stepped in front of his Servant, a stern look on his face as he addressed Rin and the two Servants that were before him. "My Servant made you a pretty generous offer, I'd take her up on it if I were you."
"Shirou please, you shouldn't get yourself involved in this." Saber said to her Master, sounding concerned. "As your Servant it is my role to engage the enemy and to keep you safe."
"I appreciate your concern Saber, but that's not how I work." Shirou replied, as he scanned the group in front on him the rust haired Magus's eyes quickly fell upon a familiar sight of his schools resident idol. "Tohsaka, guess I shouldn't be surprised to see that you're caught up in this mess to."
"E…Emiya…what, how, why?" Rin exclaimed, just then something clicked in the dark haired Magus's head. "Wait, you were a Mage the whole time?"
"Fraid so, although I wouldn't really consider myself a Magus." Shirou replied, rubbing the back of his head as he said this. "I hope you don't take that personally."
Rin didn't reply, she was too busy being dumbfounded at learning the rust haired boy that she totally didn't have a crush on was just as much a part of the Moonlit World as she was and had been practicing Magecraft without her knowing. Not only that but he'd somehow managed to summon the very class of Servant that she had been hoping to summon for herself.
Archer meanwhile was just as taken aback by these events as his Master, although for very different reasons, tonight's events had not gone the way he had been expecting. First had been the different circumstances in which he and Rin had had their first encounter with Lancer, although unexpected he'd quickly brushed off, especially since the Servant of the Spear had taken off in the direction of Emiya Shirou's home, even if it took a slightly longer and somewhat convoluted way to get there as along as the outcome as he recalled it was achieved he was willing to adapt to the situation.
However that line of thinking seemed to be officially out the window now. Not only had this version of Emiya Shirou managed to avoid being slain by Lancer and subsequently revived by Rin, it also seemed as if he was already aware of the Holy Grail War and had managed to summon his Servant, one that, despite there being a similarity, clearly wasn't Atoria Pendragon.
As much as he hated to admit it, it was becoming more and clear to him that his knowledge of the Fifth Holy Grail War and how events were likely to play out were more or less moot, thus leaving him in uncharted territory.
Turning his attention away from Tohsaka and the red clad man that stood beside her, Shirou shifted his attention to the blue clad Servant that was stood closer to him, taking note of the long red spear that he had slung over his shoulder. "Based on that large spear that you've got there I can only assume that you're the Lancer Servant in this war." He inquired.
"That would be an accurate assumption Shirou." A voice was heard and moments later Shiou's partner emerged from the gate, hood once again hiding his face and his head buried in his book. "Cú Chulainn, the famed Hound of Ulster. Student of Scathach and wielder of the cursed spear known as Gae Bulg."
He then glanced lover at Archer before looking back at the tome in his hand, flicking through a few pages. "Hmm, well isn't that interesting." He said. "Shirou, I can't find anything on this one."
Unable to quash her curiosity, Saber glanced over the shoulder of her other Master, intrigued by his book and the information that it contained, only to discover that the pages were blank.
Rin's attention meanwhile was fixed upon the hooded figure that had just emerged from Emiya's home. "Wait, that voice…I've heard it before." She muttered to herself, narrowing her eyes as she fixed them upon him. There was something about it, something about it was familiar. "Why do I feel like I know that guy from somewhere?"
"Oi oi." Lancer spoke up, the Servant of the Spear sounding rather annoyed. "I have no idea what's going on here and to be frank I really don't care. I don't know about the rest of you but I'm here to fight so are we gonna do this or what?"
Shirou let out a sigh and shook his head. "So, that's the way it is I see." He said firmly as he walked out into the middle of the street, fixing his gaze on Lancer. "Alright then if you're going to cause trouble then I guess I've got no choice but to stop you." Just then a wry smile then graced his lips momentarily. "No, we'll stop you…"
As he said these words the rust haired teenager then produced the device that his partner had tossed to him. Not that she could get a better look at it, Jeanne noticed that it was a red and silver object, the red part in the centre looking to be a pair of slots with transparent middles.
Before she could inquire what was happening Shirou then placed the strange device against his waist, from which a thick looking strap emerged, wrapping itself around the rust haired Magus's waist, a black slot emerged at his right hip.
That done, Shirou then reached into his jacket and from it produced an odd look black object, it was oblong in shape with a silver like tip pocking out at the bottom. The rust haired Master then hit a button on oblong shaped device he was holding and a voice filled the air.
JOKER…
"Wait, is that one of those Gaia Memories?" Jeanne said to herself, shocked that her Master would use a device that he'd told her were both dangerous and addictive.
As she pondered this the hooded boy stepped forward besides Shirou, a similar belt wrapped around his waist, produced a similar device, this one being green and sported a golden tip, hitting a button it too said a single word.
CYCLONE…
"M…Masters…" Saber spoke up, unsure of what she was seeing. "Wha…what are you…"
"Henshin…"/"Henshin…" Both Shirou and his partner announced, the hooded boy inserted his green USB into the right chamber of his Driver only for it to vanish in a shimmer of green energy that looked like lines of digital data and reappear in the right slot on Shirou's Driver.
No sooner had this happened the hooded boy suddenly keeled over and began collapsing to the ground, acting fast Saber darted over and caught the unconscious boy in her arms.
Meanwhile Shirou pressed down then on the green USB before inserting his own black USB into the left slot of his Driver before, and without even looking, crossing his arms the rust haired teenager pushed the two slots in opposite angles, making the buckle vaguely resemble a W.
CYCLONE/JOKER… (Technical guitar to orchestral hit)
The wind suddenly picked up as flashes of green and purple light gathered around Shirou and a small swirl of energy gathered around him, pulling it small piece of debris covering his body. There was another flash and the sight caused Jeanne jaw to drop.
Her Master was now donned in armor that was green on the right side and black on the left. A gold line ran from his right shoulder and upper chest and a purple line ran from his left shoulder and left upper chest. Grey lines ran down the middle of his body, his eyes were red and circular, and he wore a white scarf around his neck
Yet again tonight, Rin, Archer, Lancer and Saber were taken aback by the events that were transpiring. This time by the appearance of the figure clad in half and half Green and Black armor, his silver muffler fluttering in the breeze that permeating the area.
"Sh…Shirou, I fear something is wrong with other Master." Saber said finding her voice again, sounding concerned as she cradled the unconscious body of her master's associate. "He…he just collapsed and isn't responding to anything."
"I appreciate the concern Saber," The sound of Shinji's voice spoke up, coming from the armored figure that was standing there. "I can assure you that I am quite well." The red lens on the right side of the half and half Rider's body blinked as he said these word.
"H…huh…" Saber exclaimed as she tried to make sense of what she was seeing. Nothing in her previous life nor her role as a Servant had prepared her for this.
"I think you're freaking her out aibou." Another voice, this one being Shirou's, came from the green and black warrior as he glanced over at Saber, this time the left lens was flashing. "Don't worry Saber, I promise that we'll explain everything once this dealt with."
With that said the armored figure then turned his attention back to Archer and Lancer. "As for you two," He said, both voices speaking in unison as he gestured at them with his right hand before shifted his stance before pointed at two them with his left hand extended. "Saa omae no tsumi o kazoero…"
AN And there we have it, another chapter done.
I must admit that a lot of this chapter is based on an idea sent to me by a reviewer named brave kid, that included the whole 'Shinji being Raitou' thing.
His idea was essentially that given his grandsons lack of aptitude for Magecraft on top of already having Sakura, Zouken saw no value in Shinji so he willingly handed him over to Sonozaki Ryubee so his body could be used as a vessel to resurrect Raitou who'd been transformed into living data after falling into the True Gaia Memory, Raitou's soul effectively overwriting Shinji's but still having access to his memories, thus the reason why Shirou is more clued into what's going on regarding the Holy Grail War.
I'll admit I wasn't onboard with the idea at first, there seemed to be a few holes in the story in regards to certain characters such as Skull, Accel and Weather, but after giving it some thought I figured that there was something I could work with.
Another idea I had kicking around for a W chapter would haven been set during the Fate/Zero era and would have featured Kamen Rider Skull and would have strongly implied a connection between Narumi Sokichi and Emiya Kiritsugu and that Sokichi owes Kiritsugu a favor.
Essentially what would have happened is that at some point during the Fourth Grail War a group of terrorists that used Gaia Memories would have kidnapped a small group of kids which would have consisted of Rin Sakura and some red haired boy who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Having his hands tied, Kiritsugu would have called Sokichi, calling in the favor that the detective owes him, drawing him to Fuyuki. From there Sokichi finds where the terrorist are hiding, beats them up and rescues the kids who in turn get their memories of the incident wiped.
After giving it some thought I came to the realization that I could mesh these two story ideas together with my Skull idea serving as a backstory for this story which would then lead to this stories version of Begins Night.
Years later, just over a year before the events of this chapter, Sokichi would be hired by Shroud to rescue the boy that serves as a vessel for her sons soul from a Museum facility near Fuyuki, figuring he'd need help for this job he goes looking for Kiritsugu's, not knowing that he's dead, and finds Shirou instead and of course Shirou being Shirou, upon learning that Sokichi has history with Kiritsugu, insists upon helping him.
From there you can guess what comes next, Shirou and Shinji/Raitou become W to fight Museum who have set up shop in Fuyuki and dealing Gaia Memories to the population with Shinji/Raitou hiding out at Shirou's home as to hide from Museum as well as Zouken, whilst he may have seen no value in Shinji before you can bet that he'd change his mind knowing that his grandson can access the Worlds and thus all the secrets of the Earth.
So yeah Shirou's Servant is Jeanne D'arc rather then Artoria for this story and she's a Saber Class Servant, that was something my own it was also a pairing I was hoping that would have happened in The Saga of Shirou's Summons by Pallan Minerva before he wrapped it up but didn't happen.
As you saw in the chapter itself I tried to to Some tension with Shirou and Shinji actively trying to summon Jeanne however the presence of Avalon inside Shirou is trying to call forth Artoria so would could take it that Jeanne being summoned as a Saber is the Grail's way of compensating or maybe she's a hybrid of both Jeanne and Artoria, Jeanne's body and memories whilst also possessing Artoria's swordsmanship. As for why Jeanne is a Saber Servant rather than a Ruler Servant, way I see it is if Artoria can be multiple classes that exist to be nothing but fan service then I see no reason that Jeanne can't have Saber as an alternative Class.
Moving on from that, something else that occurred to me whilst I was figuring how this story could play out was that with Shinji filling Philip/Raitou's role is that it also throws a wrench into Zouken's plans since Shinji not being around means that he wouldn't be available to act as a proxy for Sakura which means that she would have to take a more active role in the Grail War, whether she wants to not. Plus Sakura having to take part in the War also potentially puts her on the radar of Museum because it only makes sense that at least one of the Fate characters get their hands on a Dopant Memory.
So I think I'm done for now but before I sign off I'm happy to report that I finished the chapters for Zi-O, it wasn't until I uploaded it to the site did I realize that the Zi-O chapter is 12,000 + words long which might be why it took so long to write, and Fourze as well as a new chapter based on Decade. I've also got some ideas in mind for new chapters based on Faiz, Blade and OOO, haven't started work on them yet though.
Also I'm up to episode 20 of Kamen Rider Geats, things seem to be escalating there as we learn more and more about the Desire Grand Prix and the Jyamato, plus I've also watched the first few episodes of Kamen Rider Saber, still in the early stages of that show so far but its looks pretty interesting so far. Oh, also you can now buy Kamen Rider Ryuki on Blu-ray from Shout Factory also you'll be able to pick up Dekaranger later this month, that's neat.
As always feel free to drop a comment and tell me your thoughts on this one, feedback is always appreciated, also if any of you are interested in the Fate/Zero era chapter with Kiritsugu and Narumi Sokichi let me know.
Till next time, peace out y'all.
