"There's been some kind of miscommunication here. I'm not the chosen one," Kagome says, tugging on her ear. She sits on the floor of the hut with her legs crossed. The hut resembles the one the old priestess resides in.
Sesshomaru glowers from his spot next to the door. He keeps one hand on the hilt of his sword in case these vermin get out of hand. Why do they stare at the priestess like that? He wrinkles his nose in disgust. The scent of the brash one's arousal is sickening.
Putrid.
At least when the cursed human's arousal spikes, it is more like an amber smell. Spicy. Annoying. But not unbearable. Sesshomaru snaps his fangs. Dwelling on the cursed human is the last thing he wants to do.
"Uh, Sesshomaru? You good?" Kagome asks.
"This Sesshomaru is fine." He stares at the brash one with his idiotic smile.
"I, Argol, dedicate myself to you." The centaur holds a fist over his heart. Perhaps, he, Sesshomaru, should rip it out, since this vermin is so determined to give his heart to Kagome.
Kagome rears back and shakes her head. "Oh no. That's not necessary. I don't want any followers. No suitors. Nothing."
"You ask for the impossible," Sesshomaru says, tightening his fingers around the hilt.
"So, this is normal?" The cursed human asks. He squeezes the back of his neck. "More importantly, why were you all fighting?"
The brash one blinks and then dismisses the cursed one.
Kagome sighs and rubs her forehead. "Why were you guys fighting?"
"It is what we do."
"That's not an answer."
A green hand shoots up. The goblin sniffs and shivers, but when Kagome blesses him with a smile, his skin turns a lighter shade of green.
Sesshomaru inhales. A terrible growl erupts from his throat, shaking the poorly made hut. The goblin shrieks and slams his head on the floor.
"Sesshomaru, maybe you need to step out."
"No."
Kagome huffs. "You're scaring everyone, and Satoru knock that off."
The cursed one holds up his hands. "I'm innocent."
"Yeah, I don't believe that." Kagome rolls her eyes. "There, there. It's okay." She reaches over and pats the goblin's back. "Can you please tell us why you guys are fighting and if there is a way we can resolve this?"
It's subtle, but the cursed one's smile drops slightly and he steps back as though the priestess has reprimanded him.
The goblin raises his head and wipes his nose with the back of his tattered sleeve.
Disgusting.
"Centaurs and goblins do not get along. They are always trying to take what we have."
"Lies!" the centaur bellows. "You goblins steal our young and enslave them."
"We have no centaurs here!" The goblin stands and clinches his fist. "We keep to ourselves. You attack us. Taking more of our supplies."
Kagome stands and holds up her hands. "Okay, time out. Your children are being taken?"
The centaur glares at the goblin and then drops his glare when he looks at Kagome. "Yes, many of the village young have been taken from us. As well as our females."
"Well, we didn't do it! You came in and attacked us for no reason. You continue to attack us when you have no proof of these outrageous claims."
"Ummm..." Kagome motions to the goblin.
"Ebeelx, my lady."
"Ebeelx," Kagome says slowly. "Are there other goblin villages around? Or orcs? Green things like you?"
The goblin falters and then looks at the centaur. "There are not any other settlements in this region that I am aware of, though there is the banished one."
Sesshomaru bites back a sigh. Damn the priestess and her big heart. "We should not get involved in this."
"We can't just stand around and not help."
"I agree with Sesshomaru," the cursed one says. "Getting involved isn't going to help us."
Kagome plants her hands on her hips and stares up at the cursed one. "Look, if you want to sit this out, fine. I get it. But I'm going. I'm not going to sit around and not help when I'm more than capable of doing so."
"... Are you saying I'm not capable?"
Kagome sighs. "Satoru, your energy keeps fluctuating. I get it. You aren't up for it, so there's no harm in sitting this out."
Sesshomaru snorts. The cursed one's energy is not fluctuating for the reasons Kagome believes, but Sesshomaru isn't going to point that out. If this gets rid of the human, then good.
"I can help," the cursed one chokes out.
Kagome stares at him and then pats his chest. "Okay, but if you feel off, just let me know. I got your back."
"Priestess."
"What? Satoru needed consoling. This is a lot for him to take in."
The cursed human frowns.
"The human is fine."
"Sa-to-ru."
Sesshomaru keeps his face blank. Satoru's heart rate upticks. The spicy scent waffles over to Sesshomaru. He bites back his own arousal.
"Sesshomaru?"
"Where is this deserted one?" He asks, changing the subject.
"I do not know. He was banished because he went against the laws." The goblin wipes its eyes with the same snot-covered sleeve. "He was a troublemaker. A crook. And not worth a half a day's work."
"Are you saying he's the cause?" The centaur asks.
"I am saying it is worth looking into... but I must bury the dead."
Kagome looks at Sesshomaru and sticks her bottom lip out. He eyes her lips. They are soft. Supple. But he will not be swayed by mere looks.
"No."
"For me?" She flutters her long dark eyelashes and pokes her bottom lip out further.
"What are you prepared to do to have this Sesshomaru to act?" He takes his hand off the hilt and crosses his arms.
Kagome falters. "Uh. I don't have any money. At least nothing that would work here." She presses her lips together. "I can comb your hair?"
"You wish to groom me?" He flicks his hair back. "Acceptable. Goblin round up your dead."
At Kagome's nod, the goblin rushes out of the hut and shouts at the other villagers.
"Argol, you should help, too."
"My kind are not dead."
Kagome exhales. "Help them." She pins the centaur with a glare. "You shouldn't have come in here charging, anyway. Even if one person is to blame, that doesn't mean the whole village is to pay for their sins."
The centaur frowns but stands all the same. He dips his head towards Kagome and flashes another one of those idiotic smiles. Sesshomaru holds his claws up to his face. He could simply melt the centaur's body and then there would be nothing left to revive.
"I will do as you say, Chosen One."
"Kagome. Just Kagome. Please." She shakes her head. "I've had enough chosen one titles to last a lifetime. No thanks."
"I'd love to hear about that," Satoru speaks up. He stands next to Kagome and places his arm across her shoulders. "Aren't you going?" He smiles, flashing his teeth at the centaur.
Sesshomaru runs his tongue over the tips of his fangs. He will allow Satoru's actions for now. Sesshomaru waits until the centaur leaves before holding the flap open. "Come priestess. You will keep your word."
Kagome scoffs. "I always keep my word. Jeez." She shrugs out of Satoru's hold and gives Sesshomaru a look as she passes by.
"You gonna hold it up for me, too?" Satoru coos. Sesshomaru quirks a brow and lashes out with his whip. It doesn't connect. How bothersome. Sesshomaru retracts his whip and leaves out of the hut. "You know, we could get along," Satoru continues. "We all want to get back home."
Sesshomaru stops and turns. "Stop sniffing around the priestess."
Satoru tilts his head to the side and crosses his arms. "Oho? So, you do have a thing for her. I don't want Kagome."
"Your cock leaks every time the priestess smiles at you. Tell your lies to someone else."
Satoru freezes. "... You can smell if I..."
"What are you two doing?" Kagome walks over to them. "They're going to put the dead in the center of the village. Do you think it'll still work here?"
Sesshomaru gives Satoru one more look and then dismisses him. "Everything else works. Why would the Tenseiga not work?"
"Good point." Kagome nods. "Satoru? You good?"
"Peachy," Satoru wheezes.
Kagome frowns and starts to head towards him, but Sesshomaru sticks his arm out and redirects her. "I'm worried about him. He's not adjusting well."
"The cursed one—" Sesshomaru makes a show of rolling his eyes at her put out expression. "Satoru is adjusting fine." He holds on to her arm and tugs her. "Let us go. We are wasting time."
"It's not wasting time," Kagome chastises. "It's like a side quest or a main quest."
"You speak in riddles."
"I get what you're saying," Satoru says, flanking Kagome's other side. Sesshomaru glares at him. Why isn't he in the back where he belongs? "We help them out. Get some more information about this world, and it might lead us to the path of getting back home."
Sesshomaru huffs quietly. He does not understand their words. It must be something from Kagome's time. They stop in front of the goblin. The goblin sniffs and rubs his eyes at the dead laid out. The centaurs stand off to the side with their hands on their weapons.
"Okay, Sesshomaru, work your magic!" Kagome beams at him.
"Do not forget your promise," he reminds her as he lets her arm go.
"Tonight. After we all take a bath."
"We?" Satoru asks.
"I have a bathing suit."
Sesshomaru growls. That bathing suit of hers is nothing more than a slip of clothing. It leaves nothing to the imagination and frankly, every time she wears it, it feels as though she is teasing him. Though he knows the priestess is not like that, but the baser side of him... Sesshomaru's nostrils flare. He clenches his fist.
Must he scent Satoru's arousal every day? Perhaps he can convince the priestess to leave the cured one behind.
"What are you doing?" the goblin shrieks when Sesshomaru pulls out the Tenseiga. Sesshomaru ignores him and focuses on the bodies of those from the dead realm. No matter the world, death is the same. Such unsightly creatures.
"It's okay, he's just helping to smooth over this disagreement," Kagome answers.
Disagreement is such a mild term to describe the slaughtering that commenced here. He raises his sword and swings in an arc. The wind blows and the remaining goblins are silent as they stare at their fallen. Sesshomaru sheathes his sword and takes his place at Kagome's side. He does not trust these vermin.
A hand twitches, followed by another, and then soon all the fallen are sitting up. They check their bodies for injuries and look around in confusion. The centaurs stomp their hooves but make no move. The goblin in charge cries and rushes to explain to the newly risen.
"Chosen... Kagome," the brash one says, trotting over to them. "Would you be able to use this power to revive our females and young, if they have fallen as well?"
Sesshomaru bites back the growl. This power? His hand flexes. Kagome takes his hand in hers and squeezes. He raises a brow. How did she know?
"First thing, you all need to apologize. Second, Ebeelx, please tell us more about this banished dude. What does he look like? Where could he have gone? Anything. I think we should start there and see if we can't get to the bottom of this." She pins the centaur with a look, which has him taking a step back.
For one so bloodthirsty, he trembles under the weight of one priestess's glare.
Pathetic.
"So, if this takes all day, you guys will feed and house us, right?" Satoru asks.
"No," Sesshomaru replies sharply. "This Sesshomaru is more than capable."
Kagome shrugs. "It's no big deal. Sesshomaru likes finding lodging and hunting. But Argol, that apology. Now."
The centaur swallows and then bows his head. "As you wish." He turns his back and addresses the goblins. "I, Argol the Bloodthirsty, on behalf of my village, apologize to you. It is not your fault for being weak. It is simply the natural course of things and while many of you lost your lives in battle with us, fret not. The Chosen One has given you a fresh life. If you feel anger, then take that anger and redirect it at yourselves for being so terribly weak. Do not give us a reason to end this blessing early. You are welcome." He turns and smiles at Kagome. "Does that please you?"
Kagome stares at him and then addresses the goblin. "Please tell us about this banished one." The centaur holds out a hand, but Kagome ignores him and continues to listen to the goblin. Sesshomaru stares at the outstretched arm. "Sesshomaru, please be nice."
"This Sesshomaru is not nice."
"For me?"
Sesshomaru looks up at the sky, drowning out the goblin's words. Satoru stands next to him.
"We could just get rid of them."
Sesshomaru turns his head. "Do not tempt this Sesshomaru. You would join them."
Satoru's jaw ticks, but his scent spikes. Sesshomaru's eyes widen. Satoru staggers back and then heads over to Kagome. Sesshomaru watches them.
This world. Something isn't right about this world. The faster they depart, the better.
A/N: My first Sesshomaru pov lol. Sesshomaru was this close to grabbing Argol by the throat.
You know I gotta admit, I am so tired of having to move my couch every day. My son moves this couch every single day so he jump around like spiderman. Like a fool, I thought the heat would slow him down, but nope. Getting a new HVAC on Friday and I did NOT go with the people who quoted me 12k.
Take care! Hope you are having an awesome Saturday. Get plenty of rest and make sure you are drinking plenty of fluids. Here's a sneak peek at How To Tame:
"Why didn't you choose me?"
Kagome cuts her eyes at InuYasha and sets her morning tea down. It helps with the sudden onset of nausea she's been experiencing since Satoru has been back. "InuYasha, you can't be serious."
His ears droop. "You said you would always choose me."
"I said I would always be by your side, which I can do as a friend. But I can't keep that promise if you keep pushing for more when you know I'm with Satoru. I'm not leaving him." Kagome covers her mouth with her hand. Her stomach lurches. Oh, this is the worst.
"That's not what you meant back then." He stands quickly and paces the room. "You said you would be with me. And I'm here now, but you're still..." He drags a hand down his face. "You chose a human over me."
She shakes her head. No, that's not it. It's not because Satoru is human. "I'm with Satoru because he's Satoru. That's it. Has nothing to do with him being human." Kagome pushes the chair out and stands. Speaking of Satoru, she needs to track him down. The tea is not working. InuYasha is picking a fight for no reason, and...she dry heaves.
"Shit. Are you okay?"
"Fine," she says, through clenched teeth. She retches again. "Can you get Satoru?" Kagome grips the back of the chair and then pulls it back out. On second thought, maybe she should sit down. She lies her head on the table and breathes out of her mouth.
"Fuck. Okay. Just hold on!" InuYasha rushes out of the dining hall. A moment later Satoru flashes in front of her.
"What's wrong?" He squats down next to her and pushes her bangs back. Kagome sighs. His hand is cold. That feels nice. "Kagome?"
"M'better now."
"Flare your energy," Sesshomaru says. Kagome grunts. She would turn her head to look at him, but even that takes too much energy. Satoru's brows pinch together, but he flares his energy all the same.
Oh.
"Do you feel better now?"
Kagome lifts her head and looks at her stomach. "Surprisingly, yes." So that's how it's going to be? Satoru caresses her stomach. His shoulders relax.
"I'll take you to Shoko."
"No, I don't think she needs to check me out." Kagome glances at Sesshomaru. "How'd you know about the energy?"
"It is what demons do to calm our young." He stares at them for a moment. "This Sesshomaru wasn't sure if it would work considering you both are human, but..." He shrugs one shoulder. "Your mate doesn't act like a typical human."
