Bulbasaur
Our heroes are now relaxing at their campsite in the forest, with Ash's Pokémon doing their daily exercises. Pikachu and Eevee were learning Dig from Sandshrew and Brock's Onix, Butterfree & Pidgeotto were sparring against each other and Magikarp was doing laps in the water. Brock was making lunch with Elaine's help and Ash was keeping track of her Pokémon.
Ash suddenly saw a green round body Pokémon with two legs and green leaves on its head drinking from the stream.
"Aww, it's cute," Ash said as she pulled out her Rotom Phone
Oddish, the Weed Pokémon. A Grass and Poison Type. It often plants its root feet in the ground during the day and sows seeds as it walks about at night. This Oddish is a Shiny.
Suddenly, Ash saw Oddish outlined in blue and another presence close to them. 'Huh? What was that about?' she thought.
"Oddish," Oddish looked at the gang.
Out of the bushes was a Pokémon they all recognized.
"Bulb," it called out to Oddish.
"No way! A Bulbasaur," Ash exclaimed as she scanned the Kanto Grass Starter
Bulbasaur, the Seed Pokémon. A Grass and Poison Type. Bulbasaur likes to nap in the sunshine. While it sleeps, the seed on its back catches the rays and uses the energy to grow.
"A wild Bulbasaur is a rare sight," Brock said.
Bulbasaur grabbed Oddish and ran off.
The trio shrugged as they ate their lunch.
After their break, they continued until they came across a wooden bridge.
"That's odd," Ash said, looking at the map on her Rotom Phone. "This bridge isn't even on the map."
"Should we cross it?" Elaine asked.
"Why not? Someone might be on the other side," Ash said.
When they started crossing the bridge, it wasn't exactly stable, so they had to hold on to the ropes as they walked. Suddenly, a harsh wind blew, and the bridge began to wiggle & snapped.
"AHHHH!" our heroes screamed as they grabbed onto whatever they could.
Ash & Brock grabbed the rope tight and Elaine hung onto Ash's leg.
"Woah!" Brock said as he was losing his grip.
"Butterfree, come out!" Ash sent out her Butterfree.
"Free," Butterfree appeared.
"Use Psychic on the double," Ash said.
"Free," Butterfree's eyes glowed blue and telekinetically lifted Ash, Pikachu, Brock & Elaine to the other side of the bridge.
"That was close," Brock sighed.
"You could say that again," Elaine sighed as well.
"Thanks, girl," Ash said gratefully.
"Free," Butterfree said.
As they continued, someone had set up traps along the way. Since Ash could somehow sense when they were coming up to a trap, they managed to avoid them.
Soon, they came across a wooden cabin next to a lake where they saw a bunch of Pokémon.
"Wow, look at all the Pokémon," Ash said.
"They sure look peaceful," Brock added.
"Pika," Pikachu agreed.
They were then spotted by a woman with long royal blue hair in a braid, wearing a pink shirt & a red jumpsuit.
"How did you get past those traps?" the woman asked.
"What, those traps were from you?" Elaine asked back.
"Yes, to deal with poachers & hunters," the woman replied.
"Well, don't worry. We're not poachers," Ash said. "Who are you?"
"I'm Melanie. I look after the Pokémon here," Melanie introduced.
"I'm Ashley & this is my Pikachu," Ash greeted.
"Pikachu," Pikachu greeted.
"I'm Brock," Brock greeted.
"I'm Elaine," Elaine greeted.
"So, are these your Pokémon?" Ash asked.
"No. This is a place where Pokémon can rest & relax. When Pokémon are abandoned or injured, they come here. I take care of them until they feel better & they can leave," Melanie explained.
The gang decided to stay longer to help Melanie take care of the Pokémon. Brock was tending to a Paras. Elaine was gently splashing water on a black pearl-like Pokémon encased within a spiky, blue-violet bivalve shell.
"Do you feel better?" Elaine asked.
"Shellder," the Pokémon nodded as Elaine scanned it
Shellder, the Bivalve Pokémon. A Water Type. At night, this Pokémon uses its broad tongue to burrow a hole in the seafloor sand and then sleep in it. While it is sleeping, Shellder closes its shell, but leaves its tongue hanging out.
Ash was tending to a Caterpie & two Ratattas when she felt something rubbing her leg. She looked down & saw Oddish. "Hi Oddish. You're the same Oddish from earlier, aren't you?"
"Oddish," Oddish nodded happily and pointed one of its leaves at Melanie.
"You must be the one that Melanie said how you were abandoned because your trainer thought you were weak," Ash said.
"Oddish," Oddish nodded sadly.
"Some trainers are heartless and don't understand the hard work of a Pokémon, but not all of us are like that. I know you will find a good trainer," Ash smiled as she petted Oddish.
Melanie watched in surprise that Oddish was interacting with someone other than herself. She smiled.
"Hey Melanie, did Bulbasaur used to have a trainer?" Brock suddenly asked.
"Yes, he did. His Trainer left Bulbasaur behind when his trainer had no more use for him. Bulbasaur became upset, angry & began disliking Pokémon Trainers, thinking they're all the same," Melanie answered, sadly.
"What? That's awful!" Elaine huffed.
Suddenly, the wind started to grow stronger.
"What's going on?" Ash asked as she held her hat so it wouldn't blow away.
Everyone turned & saw a literal tornado heading their way.
"*Gasp* A tornado!" Melanie said fearfully as the Pokémon began to panic. "Oh no, the Pokémon!"
The wind began to suck Shellder to the tornado, but Elaine swiftly grabbed Shellder.
"Everyone in the cabin!" Brock yelled as he was carrying Paras.
Melanie was carrying the Ratattas and the Caterpie.
Then Oddish got caught in the wind.
"No Oddish!" Ash shouted.
"Oddish!" Oddish panicked.
Bulbasaur caught Oddish in his vines. Bulbasaur was struggling to get to the cabin, but Ash gave Bulbasaur a hand. When they got in, everyone sighed in relief.
"What about the tornado? This place could get destroyed," Melanie said, worriedly.
Ash got out of the cabin and sent out Pidgeotto, "Use Twister!"
Pidgeotto flapped her wings, creating a powerful twister, hitting the tornado & exploded.
"Well done," Ash smiled as she recalled Pidgeotto.
After the tornado was gone, Brock, Elaine, Melanie & the Pokémon came out of the cabin.
"Is everyone okay?" Melanie asked.
"Everyone's fine," Brock said.
"With Bulbasaur here, the village is well-protected," Ash commented.
"Ashley, don't you think Bulbasaur would make an excellent addition to your team?" Melanie asked.
"Yes, he would," Ash said.
"Then I think Bulbasaur should go with you," Melanie said.
"Wait, what?" Ash blinked.
"It's time for Bulbasaur to leave the village and get into the real world," Melanie explained. "These Pokémon shouldn't stay here forever, they need to leave and grow up in the real world. So please take care of Bulbasaur."
"Hey Bulbasaur, care for a battle?" Ash asked.
"Bulba," Bulbasaur accepted.
Ash and Bulbasaur got into battle stance.
"Butterfree, let's go!" Ash sent out her Butterfree.
"Free," Butterfree appeared.
"Oh, that Butterfree is beautiful," Melanie said in awe.
Bulbasaur fired Razor Leaf at Butterfree.
"Use Air Cutter," Ash said.
Butterfree's wings glowed light blue, fired light blue X-shaped blades from them which overpowered Razor Leaf & hit Bulbasaur.
Bulbasaur charged with Tackle.
"Use Confusion."
"Free," Butterfree's eyes glowed violet, telekinetically lifted Bulbasaur in the air before slamming him down to the ground.
"I know the prefect Pokéball for Bulbasaur," Ash said as she pulled out a Pokéball that was green on the upper part with dark green thorn patterns & a red-pink flower with a yellow center on top & tossed it at Bulbasaur, catching him. "All right!"
Oddish walked up to Ash & rubbed its leaves against her.
"Oddish," Oddish smiled.
"Huh? What's the matter?" Ash asked.
"It seems that Oddish wants to go with you as well. I can see Oddish likes you," Melaine said.
"I like you too Oddish," Ash said as she pulled out a Pokéball with a light green and yellow colored stripe pattern & tapped Oddish, catching it.
Ash sent Butterfree & Pidgeotto to Oak's Lab. She then took a brief look at their information.

"Elaine, Brock, I want you to take Shellder & Paras with you," Melanie said.
The two nodded before they caught Shellder & Paras.
The gang bid farewell to Melanie as they continued their journey.
