"How long have we been walking?"

It was the same question Relon kept asking. With the situation as grim as it was unrealistic given the revelation that was their new life, it was very understandable. Eve knew this.

She was, after all, in the same boat as himself. The world she originated in also was no more. Somehow they were thankfully still in the world of pokémon.

Though walking through the woods in the middle of the night certainly did not help matters get any better. She was just thankful that the wild pokémon in the area had no intention of disturbing them. Not that they had anything to worry about.

She was super strong. Mere wild pokémon like these couldn't hurt her if their life depended on it. She's fought the elitist of elites, champions and their aces, pokémon legends, and everything in-between. She was confident in taking on anything that posed a threat to herself or her beloved best friend.

Shelter, food, water; those were what they needed the most right now. Resting out in the wild was by no means dangerous given the calmness the environment seemed to hold but without protection against random ailments or even the elements themselves, that could pose an issue.

The air was calm and no odd scents were throwing her off. Every now and then, she's been taking a whiff to see if a smell of some kind could be picked up, anything to signal civilization or a campsite but thus far, nothing has been found.

"What region are we even in?" Her trainer wondered, ducking under a branch as he trekked on.

It was a good question.

In her own life, Eve had been born in the Kanto region within the town of Pallet, next door to the world famous Professor Samuell Oak. She's seen so much in her life. Johto, Hoenn, so many regions and even more memorable places. Yet, she couldn't discern where exactly they were. Whether a location yet to have been ventured or simply because of it still being night.

The air was normal, not too humid like the tropics of Hoenn or cool like Sinnoh sported. It felt just right, just like home. Though they couldn't be in Kanto. Relon and Eve, herself, scoured every nook and cranny of Kanto, even the orange islands and other islands after their battle with the Gym Leader, Blaine.

Those islands that shaved time off of their gym circuit ended with an encounter with Moltres. What a scorching battle that was. Perhaps it was an island they were on. A larger peninsula, maybe?

With how long they've ventured through, surely they'd have stumbled upon a road or dirt path at the least by now.

Too lost in his search for safety and her thoughts over their location, both failed to register the faint signs of dead life that filled the area. As well as the lack of pokémon.

Relon was the first to snap from his wandering only to feel his footing give way. Then came Eve's own yelp. Next thing they knew, they were sliding down into the unknown.

Wincing as his eyes blink back to reality, Relon immediately looks around to find Eve also coming to.

"Eve! You okay?!" He gingerly picks up the small fox who shivers before chirping in confirmation. He could only sigh in relief himself. "Thank goodness." With her retaking her place atop his shoulder, both look around and then up.

Dull crystals once seeming to radiate a sort of light no longer do. The cliff they fell from leading to the hole in the roof too high for any attempt at climbing out of. Ahead of them, a single path delving deeper into the darkness illuminated only by the dim crystals further in.

"I guess we don't have much of a choice, do we?"

"Eev Eevee."

Reluctantly, they head inside. Hand staying against the wall as he's done during his time with tour groups as he ventured the regions, Relon couldn't help but feel something inside stir him forward. It was as though whatever was the cause was either calling him forward or his body was moving of its own accord.

Even if he wanted to cease his movement, it was as though his body resisted the mere idea altogether. And as they got deeper, an unfamiliar presence made Relon shiver even more.

Something was at the end of this tunnel. They both knew it.

They've experienced countless boss battles at critical points like this to not know. The worry was rooted in numerous factors. There was seemingly no other way but forward. Relon's own confidence in battling if the need arises. Finally, the bigger component in their lives being 'new' still.

With every step, his pace became more and more heavy yet he persevered. For a cause unknown, he could feel a presence. Immediately, he thought of the encounters with legendary pokémon. Far off in isolated areas just like this, they could be found in both real life and in-game. It is often spoken of the "pressure" many such powerful creatures exude and therefore is best avoided to encounter one.

Ba-dump.

His heart suddenly pounded. It was almost hostile in how it sounded that he winced.

"Eevu?!"

"I-I'm fine… I think." He managed to look ahead more grimly. "Something's up there, Eve. I can feel it…"

He'd never done such a thing in real life but his game's history has shown him time and time again a virtual representation of what such a thing was like. To now have Eve in the flesh with him, said female fox having lived through all of those encounters, the stern focus she held told that this was likely the same possibility.

Then after what felt like a turn in the path, they stumbled upon the end. Showering in its own luminescence, countless crystals sparkled around a red-dyed pond.

"Red water?" Relon asked in wonder as he carefully descended. "I don't see an exit anywhere. Let's look around." With a nod of affirmation, she hopped off and sprinted off to the other side.

Eve was well versed in cave explorations due to both her travels and the guidance of Flygon. The once cave dweller loved to roam about and help guide her and Relon whenever they ventured inside one. Over the years, she's managed to pick up a few helpful tricks and tips. She could only hope such would be put to good use now…

Even as searched high and low, even behind crystals, for any sort of exit, he couldn't find anything.

Ba-dump. Ba-dump. Ba-dump.

Once again, he could feel his heart pound as though in his head. His body was receiving mixed signals and he didn't know for the life of himself why.

Then he heard it.

The piercing screech.

Snapping in the direction, he saw… nothing? Only Eve making her way back to him. Worry evident on her small, adorable, face.

"Eevee!"

"Don't worry, I'm okay. I just… heard a high-pitched sound." That answer only made her furrow at the thought.

Many rare and powerful pokémon hid themselves in caves to avoid both humanity as well as oftentimes other pokémon. But only certain ones could initiate a premonition like what her trainer described. Like psychic types or those that radiated a strong presence.

For her to not hear it, could Relon be linked to it? Like the chosen one in her previous world was to certain pokémon legends?

Stable on his feet once more, Relon's attention drew to the water.

There was no exit aside from the one that they came in from. The crystals inside were all so full of life as opposed to those in the tunnel. Neither seemed to find any exit meaning…

Grim expression apparent, he unconsciously tensed his leg.

"If Arceus or another God thinks this is funny, then I genuinely hate them." He gulps crouching before touching the liquid. Then it happened.

The rumbling.

That was the first action that happened. Crumbling bits from the ceiling descended all around. The crystals that once shined so bright seemingly had their light sucked out and into the odd cocoon that began to rise from the parting water.

"No way…" In books and even in the game, barely anything was shown or told of the creature that resembled the letter Y. "Yveltal?!" Immediately, Eve took a defensive position in front of the male. "Wait, Eve, it's still dormant I think." That didn't make her wariness wane.

She recalled the story of the legendary. It all made sense. That dark pressure that was subtly being exuded, the absence of life; it was all the Destruction pokémon's doing. And somehow they've wandered into its nesting ground.

But one thing still didn't make sense. Why was Relon reacting to it? Unless… Could he and Yveltal be somehow linked? She's seen other individuals become tethered to pokémon legends in her life during their adventure and she was using all possibilities she could think of to make anything in the current moment logical.

Ba-dump.

Another phantom strike to his body, only this time the pain was absent. If anything, it felt oddly empowering. The more and more his eyes loomed on the still cocoon, the more he was beginning to regret the idea in his head.

"Eve, you're probably going to heavily dislike what I'm about to do…" She picked up on it immediately and whipped her body to bark in refusal. "Do you have a better idea? No other pokémon are down here, not to mention as strong as you are, I don't think you can dig through the tough crystals that are probably inside the dirt. And unlike that other Eevee I met, you can't just randomly warp into your Eeveelutions at will. Otherwise you could become a glaceon and just make a staircase of ice."

About to retort, her ears flickered downward. She still disliked it when Relon was right. Though that didn't mean he had to risk his life just to get them out of here! Not to mention how cool and unfair it was that an Eevee could do that! Yes, it probably was abused horribly and she'd fight anyone to bring justice to one of her kind but it was still cool nonetheless!

"Okay…" With a deep breath inward and then out, he stepped onto the parted water's floor. With every step of the slight incline, that heavy feeling in his chest became stronger and stronger. At the same time, the beating of his heart and mind began to quietly cease until he stood before it.

"Eevu!" Hearing the sound of his companion climb up and onto his shoulder, he looked at the determined expression she wore.

"With me until the next end, huh?"

"Eevee!" He could only smile. To have the once virtual creature now in real life, let alone exhibit such lengths to go for him… he couldn't be more thankful.

"Alright."

Carefully, he extended his hand. As though in response, the cocoon emanated a dim, red, glow. The closer he came, the more his own hand matched the dormant legendary's coloration.

With every centimeter conquered, more and more of himself felt it. A power brimming from within. Then he touched it.

A blinding flash of reddish-violet exploded filling their vision. From red, came pitch-black. Seeping from the cocoon and onto his hand, he felt something unlike anything he's ever experienced before.

Power.

Along his skin, the glowing dark red manifested on his being and then it reached Eve.

"Eve!" He called, as her body became encompassed in its dark aura. Forced to jump off his shoulder, he too fell to a knee as the power encompassed his very being.

His breathing began to go ragged, his sight blurry. Eve's own form became a small veil of black itself. Then before he could struggle to do anything, all went black.

Despite that, his consciousness remained. He simply felt light.

Had he died again? Where was Eve? Anywhere his eyes trailed to, he found only darkness. It was like earlier all over again.

Then he saw it. The faint silhouette overhead. In doing so, he found himself at the bottom of the now tiny basin. Yet, he did not move.

Before him struggling to stand on all fours lied not Eve but now an Umbreon. Clearly, whatever it had been through had drained nearly all of its energy as it panted. That was one cause for his still form outside of his own body's odd feeling. The other…

Simply flapped in place above the duo.

An avian with traits draconic, its body laid red with his back black donned in white spots trailing up its wings. Bright blue eyes with small black horns curving overwards, the creature's gray ruff encircles its neck. Its wings with five, large black claws on the time with its tail similar in structure leaving only its bird-like legs held in place.

"Yveltal…" The name alone made the bird discard its focus on the umbreon and directly towards him.

There was something. He something he simply could no believe but recognized. Similar to the description in his game and in the tales spoken, he felt a connection. Difficult to describe but clearly now present.

His body was no longer normal. Rejuvenated and then some would be a good way to describe the feeling. What exactly that entailed he didn't know. Yet, throughout all that was happening, he no longer felt fear. More so, a newfound fondness oddly enough.

As he carefully rose, noting his body's strength still present, his eyes momentarily looked to the weak umbreon.

The chance was slim but not impossible.

"Eve?" He crouched before to see the umbreon jump as if registering his presence. Then any wariness the canine had vanished as it jumped into his arm. Instinctively, he reciprocated the gesture associating with the new thin but smooth fur. "It's okay. We're okay," he eased. "Right, Yveltal?" At that, Eve looked back to the avian descend to tuck its wings in as it looked directly at the two.

Its piercing blue eyes made any thoughts it held unreadable. Even Eve herself, now somehow an umbreon, couldn't tell. Just as she was at a loss for all the events that have turned up one after the other, she was now speechless as Relon's own visage seemed calm, relaxed even before the legendary of destruction itself.

"How peculiar…" A feminine voice hummed in interest, spurring his focus upward. He simply looked at the creature expectantly.

"Y-Yveltal?"

"Yes, Tethered One?"

Yveltal was indeed talking. Okay.

"Relon?" Another smaller, slightly younger sounding female voice came next.

No way…

One slow head drop down to the umbreon made his eyes further bulge out.

"Eve…?"

"Yes?"

Ah, he could understand pokémon now. Neat.

With that, he promptly fainted.
