Now that Wally had gained control over his speed, his dad was finally letting him return to football practice with his friends, though he still had to wear a secret power dampener on his ankle to make sure he didn't slip up.
And it was good timing too, since the big game against their rivals at Star City High was coming up and Wally needed to get back into shape for the game.
"Okay, guys, that was good practice." Vic, who was their team's captain and quarterback, said as practice came to an end.
"He's right, keep playing like that, we'll give those Star City Lizards a real run for their money this year." their coach said as they wrapped up practice.
Wally was checking to make sure the coast was clear before he took off the power dampener so he could run home when he heard Vic walking up to him.
"Hey Wally, you got a second?" Vic asked his best friend.
"Yeah, what's up?" Wally asked.
"Are you sure you're up for this game man? I mean you just got out of the hospital." Vic said, since they'd all heard about the accident that had put Wally in the hospital.
"Yeah, I'm fine. The doctors gave me the all clear and I've never felt better." Wally assured him.
"Good, just wanted to be sure, since we need you if we're gonna win." Vic said.
"Yeah, don't worry, I'll be fine." Wally assured him, right as they heard someone call out Victor's name and Vic scowled.
"Hide me." Vic said.
"Vic, what's going on?" Wally asked, right as he saw a man that he immediately recognized as Victor's father, and understood his behavior.
"Victor, please, I came all this way to talk to you." his father, Silas Stone, said as he tried to walk up to his son, who simply turned away.
"You should've stayed in Detroit dad. Especially since you're not supposed to be anywhere near me or mom right now." Victor growled at his father, since his father had no rights to him or to even be around him due to the terms of the divorce.
"Victor, I came here to try and make amends. Maybe put our family back together." Silas insisted.
"You lost your chance at that a long time ago. Especially since you're the one who destroyed our family in the first place." Victor said.
"Victor, I know I made mistakes, but I want to do better. Be better." Silas insisted.
"I've heard that before. Dad, you're incapable of changing and I'm done getting my hopes up, because you're a hopeless dad. You're incapable of putting anything before your work. Not even mom and I." Victor reminded him.
"Victor, I want to do better. Be the father I should've been all along." Silas said.
"No dad, you lost that chance." Victor said.
"I just want us to be a family again." Silas said.
"That implies that you were ever a member of our family to begin with. You were never around, no matter how many times mom or I begged you to leave your damn lab early to have a meal with us or to attend one of your son's birthday parties or come to one of my games. But every single memory I have of those things, you were never there. All those trips you promised mom and I never seemed to happen, you always cancelled at the last minute because of work, you basically deprived me of my childhood because I wasn't as interesting to you as your work." Victor said.
"I know I made mistakes, but you are my son and I want to be a part of your life before it's too late." Silas said.
"It is already too late dad. Just leave." Victor said angrily.
"You heard the man Dr. Stone. Leave now. Or I'll make you." Wally's father Joe said as he walked up to them.
"And you are?" Silas asked.
"Detective Joe West. I'm Wally's father and I've gotten to know your son pretty well since he and his mother moved here. I probably know him better than you do at this point and I believe that you were asked to leave, especially since you shouldn't even be here without permission from Victor's mother, which I know you don't have, since I called her as soon as my son texted me and she said that she had no idea you were even in Central City." Joe said and Victor shot his best friend a thankful look.
"This does not concern you, it's a family matter." Silas insisted, only for Victor to jump in.
"And he's more family to me than you ever were. If anyone here should leave right now, it's you. Silas." Victor said angrily as he turned away from his father.
"Come on. I'll give you both a ride home and Dr. Stone, if you come near him again without permission, I'll have you arrested." Joe said, since he and his wife, the DA of Central City, were aware that one of the terms of the divorce was that Silas could not be near their son without getting her permission first.
"Thanks Joe." Victor said as he and Wally made their way over to Joe's car.
"You're lucky that our sons are here now, since I've got a few choice words about your life choices that I don't want the kids to hear. Though it sounds like based on what Victor said, they're words you've likely heard before. From your ex. And don't get any ideas about approaching them without first getting consent over the phone." Joe said as he walked off, leaving Silas alone to try and think of a way to salvage his relationship with his son.
