Jesse was currently in her lab, since while she was worried about Eddie, she had no idea where he was being treated, so while she waited, she thought that she'd put her angst to use finally completing her research into giving herself powers like the Flash.

Her father's research had been surprisingly helpful. It turns out he was of more use to her now that he was dead than he'd ever been when he was still alive. It turns out that he'd spent years studying what he'd called the speed force, why Jesse didn't know, but his notes were helpful in helping her crack what she was calling the speed equation. The key to her research and the key to turning herself into a speedster herself.

What happened to Eddie had made her even more obsessed with unlocking the secrets of the speed force, since first her father, and now Eddie, she wasn't going to let anyone she loved die ever again. Not if she had the power to stop it. And soon she would, though she honestly wasn't sure how she still had a job, let alone a lab to work out of considering how much of her work she'd neglected due to her obsession with the speed force, but it would be worth it when she succeeded and once she did, she'd make up all the work she'd been neglecting.

But for right now, she needed to put all her energy on this. Especially when she could tell that she was close. There was just one thing she couldn't figure out in order to crack the code. There was still one link missing in the chain, no matter how hard she tried.

"What am I missing?" Jesse said as she punched a desk in frustration since she'd been at this for nearly 2 days straight with almost no stops, even to eat or sleep, but she was too close to stop until now. Even though her brain felt like it was about to shut down, even though she just got an idea.

Or rather, she had an old memory from her childhood, from before her mom had died in that car crash. It was a memory of another time she'd been pushing herself this hard, not that she could even remember why, but her mom had pulled her away, sat her down and told her that sometimes when a problem seems this hard, she had to slow down, take a deep breath and think clearly. Then she'd told her a story about how she was a lot like her grandparents, her mother's parents, Jonathan Chambers and Libby Mercer, how they'd always rushed into things, wanting to get things done fast, but knowing when to slow down when it mattered the most.

Not that Jesse had ever met them, since her grandparents had passed away before her parents had even met. But her mom had always told her how proud they'd be of her.

And as it turned out, the universe seemed to agree that she needed a distraction, since at that moment, Flash sped into her lab.

"Jesse Wells, I see you've been busy." Flash said as he looked around her lab.

"Needed something to keep me busy." Jesse said, not sure why she felt the need to justify herself to him.

"Fair enough. But I'm sure you heard about your boyfriend saving the city from a nuke." Flash said.

"What do you think I need a distraction from? Eddie all but vanished after the attack. No one knows what happened to him. He's not at any hospital, but they won't confirm he's dead either." Jesse said.

"He's alive and he was badly hurt. The reason he vanished is because I took him to my base of operations, since it's the only place in the city with equipment advanced enough to save him." Flash said.

"He's alive. Thank god." Jesse said in relief, actually putting her hand over her heart as she calmed down.

"And I'm here to take you to him." Flash said.

"Let's go." Jesse said and Flash grinned as he grabbed Jesse's arm, but the second his hand got close to her, it sparked a little lightning from him into her.

"What the hell was that?" Jesse asked, since she suddenly felt different.

"I have no idea. Are you okay?" Flash asked her.

"I don't know. I feel weird." Jesse said, feeling like every molecule in her body was suddenly charged with electricity.

"Do you feel like you're lightning charged?" Flash asked.

"Yeah, how did you know?" Jesse asked, as Flash sped out and then returned with a glass, which he threw at Jesse, only for the world to slow down for her as she dodged.

"Whoa, what the hell was that?" Jesse asked.

"That was confirmation that you were somehow just connected to the speed force. You somehow got what you wanted without needing to blow yourself up." Flash said, right as Jesse's hand started to vibrate at superspeed, another proof.

"How?" Jesse asked.

"I don't know. We'll run tests on you after we get you to my base, since it's better equipped for that. And you'll need training to learn to control your speed and I'm taking you there, since not only do you not know where my base is, but you don't know how to use your powers. Not yet." Flash said and Jesse nodded as she let Flash speed her out of there.
