Chapter 5: It's nothing!

A/N: Hi everyone! Thought I'd treat you all with another chapter! It's nothing fancy but it's a nice filler that'll bridge us to the juicy stuff soon.

Disclaimer: I don't own Resident Evil; I just own my characters.

Enjoy!

Rachel let out a huge sigh of relief when she got out of class. She wasn't late this time and her instructor praised her for her thesis. Overall, it was a good way to start the week. Since she didn't have any tests or papers to finish this week, she could have a chance to actually relax.

"Wonder if I should get a head start and study up for my finals?" she wondered.

Finals were months away, but it wasn't a bad idea to start studying. If she started studying now, she would remember everything by the time finals were here.

She was so caught up in her plan that she bumped into someone by accident.

"I'm so sorry! I wasn't watching where- "

She stopped herself when she saw it was Jeremy she bumped into.

'Fuck' she thought.

Jeremy had on a big smile that made her skin crawl. She didn't understand what made him so popular with everyone. Something just seemed very off about him.

"Rachel! I was thinking about you" he said.

"I haven't seen you since the party on Friday."

Rachel gripped her bag as she slowly stepped back a bit to give them some space.

"Yeah, I was…busy."

'Busy staying away from you' she mentally added.

Jeremy took a step closer much to her dismay.

"Listen, about the other night I'm sorry it got so rowdy. I guess you don't like big crowds, huh?"

Rachel gave him a disgusted look.

"Oh, you're sorry about it being too rowdy but you're not sorry about forcing me to drink a disgusting cocktail. Or sorry that you wouldn't listen to me when I repeatedly said no, or that you forced me to bug a stranger as a dare so I wouldn't have to drink that nasty shit? You're not sorry for any of that?"

Jeremy didn't say anything to that. It was obvious he wasn't thinking about making her uncomfortable.

How typical.

Sighing, she realized she was wasting her time talking to him. She was better off talking to a brick wall.

"You know what? Forget about it. It's over and done with and quite frankly I have other things to think about besides that stupid party."

She turned around and started walking away.

"Hey, wait!"

Jeremy grabbed her arm and pulled her back. Rachel didn't ignore the fact that his grip was a little too tight for her liking. He tried to make it seem like everything was ok by having that smile on his face.

"Listen, that was probably uncalled for, but it was just a harmless game. I was just trying to make the night fun with a few drinking games" he said.

Rachel scoffed and yanked her arm away.

"Your version of fun is very different from mine" she said.

She walked away again but much to her dismay Jeremy followed her.

"We obviously got off on the wrong foot. Why don't I take you out to dinner so we can clear things up?"

Rachel stopped in her tracks and glared over her shoulder. What was with this guy?! How could he not understand the concept of the word no?

"I'm only going to tell you this one last time because I hate repeating myself" she hissed.

"I am not interested. I don't want to have dinner with you, I don't want to hang out, and I don't want to go to parties where the host doesn't listen to me. For someone who claims to be at the top of his classes you really are clueless when a woman tells you no. Now leave me alone!"

Spinning on her heel, she stormed off. So much for it being a great day.

Jeremy watched as she left with a dark look in his eyes. It seemed like playing nice wasn't cutting it anymore. Looked like he needed to show her what happened when you're rude to the nice guy.

"What a fucking prick" Isabella said.

After her little run in with Jeremy, Rachel told Isabella everything that happened as they ate lunch. She was so worked up about it that she couldn't even enjoy her food.

Slamming her drink down in frustration she growled as she thought of Jeremy.

"I don't know what his deal is. Why does he keeps bugging me. All the other girls on campus go out of their way to get his attention. Why can't he bug them?"

"It's because he's probably used to that attention and since you won't give it to him, he's curious. You're like the Belle to his Gaston" Isabella said.

Rachel shuddered at the thought.

"Great, now you just ruined one of my favorite movies" she deadpanned.

"Hey, it was the only example I could think of" Isabella said.

"Since I'm ruining Disney movies for you, let's do another one: what's up with this supposed Prince Charming that saved you over the weekend?"

Rachel blushed, knowing she was referring to Leon.

"Leon didn't save me, he just helped me out" she insisted.

"By drinking beer with you in the park?" Isabella asked.

"No, as I said it wasn't like that" Rachel said.

She told her best friend about all the encounters she had with Leon since Jeremy's party. The more she talked about him the more it sounded like he was a prince.

Isabella gave Rachel a blank stare.

"So, you're basically telling me that when a guy who you just met tells you that you're freaking out over your classes for nothing, you'll listen but when your best friend that you've known since Kindergarten tells you the same thing it just goes in one ear and out the other?"

Rachel chucked a fry at her in retaliation.

"Don't make me sound like a bad friend. You've been telling me to take it easy for years but hearing it from a stranger was kind of a wakeup call"

Isabelle rolled her eyes. At least her friend was starting to listen.

"So, his name is Leon? You've only known him for three days and you know his name?" she teased.

"It's common courtesy to introduce yourself to people, Issy" Rachel sighed.

"There's nothing weird about telling each other your name."

"So does this Leon go to school with us? I don't think I've seen his face on campus before" Isabella asked.

Rachel shook her head.

"No, he told me he used to be a cop so he's not a student. I know he's 35 so he's probably been out of school for a while."

Isabella raised an eyebrow in surprise.

"First you know his name and now you know how old he is?"

Rachel's face went red when she realized she said too much information.

"I-it just randomly came out when we were talking! He kept calling me a brat, so I told him how old I was and when I called him an old man he told me his age. It wasn't like I was asking for personal information about him like his birthdate or what his blood type is!"

Isabella wore a shit eating grin as she saw her friend get flustered.

"Rachel, you tease! Flirting around with older men? I didn't know you had it in you."

Rachel kicked her under the table to stop it.

"Knock it off, I wasn't flirting with him!"

"Ok, ok, so you weren't flirting with him. But it's clear that you're smitten with him since you won't stop blushing" Isabella pointed out.

"That's because you keep teasing me! Just because he's got a really handsome face and pretty blue eyes doesn't mean I'm smitten with him!" Rachel retorted.

"…. I never mentioned about his face or eye color" Isabella said.

When Rachel realized she said too much information she pulled her hoodie up to cover her face. Isabella saw how embarrassed her friend was getting and decided to stop the teasing.

"Hey, it's ok to have a little crush" she said.

Rachel pulled her hood back a little to glare at her best friend.

"I don't have a crush! I just met this guy three days ago."

"So? I've had crushes on boy bands when we were young, and I never met any of them"

"There's also the fact that he's 11 years older than me."

"It's not that big of an age gap and you're not a minor so there's nothing creepy going on. There's a bunch of couples with various age gaps."

Rachel shook her head.

"I don't have time for crushes or romance. I went to college to get my degree in medicine, not to find a husband."

"If you had a boyfriend maybe Jeremy would leave you alone" Isabella pointed out.

"No boyfriends! I don't need one to keep Jeremy away. He'll either tire out after I keep ignoring him or he'll find some random chick when he graduates" Rachel said.

"You mean if he graduates."

Rachel twirled her straw as she looked at her food. She didn't have a crush. She was just surprised that there were still decent men out there after having to deal with punks like Jeremy. Besides, as if Leon would be interested in a shy, timid med student.

This wasn't a crush.

Nothing would come out of this random encounter.

A/N: Well, at least Rachel is slowly getting a backbone. She told Jeremy off, but she still needs to work on her self-confidence.

Sorry Leon wasn't in this chapter but thought it would be nice to see a bit more of Rachel and how she is.

Please review and tell me what you think!

Take care!
