Episode 12: A Bite to Remember
Today, Mew and her friends are watching a Hoenn Zigzagoon drinking from a small river.
Excited, Max loudly says, "Wow, it's a Zigzagoon."
"But you have to keep your voice down, or you'll scare it off," May softly says.
The Zigzagoon, having heard Max's loud voice, leaves.
"Like that," Max says.
"Hey, that wasn't my fault," Max says.
And soon, nother noise soon grabs Max's attention.
Max looks up, "Look up there."
Everyone turns and spots a trio of Stantler.
"Wow, cool!" Tomo says.
"A Stantler and its fawns," Max says.
"How cool," May says.
"I agree," Jen says.
They soon look up and see a kaleidoscope of Beautifly flying and chirping overhead.
"Wow! Just look at the Beautifly," Mew says.
"There are so many Pokémon in this forest," Max says.
"I know. I've never seen this many in one place before," May says.
"Yeah. Everywhere you look is another one," Brock says.
"You're right," Mew says.
Mew and the others continue looking around and see a Sudowoodo standing still while a group of Shroomish walk by before the Sudowoodo runs to catch up with them.
"Hey, no! Wait!" Max calls out.
"You get too close to 'em," May says.
"Max, you might be scaring them a little bit," Brock says.
"I know, but the real-life Pokémon out here seem so much bigger than the ones in books or on the Pokédex," Max says, excited.
"What's the big surprise?" May questions, "If you'd studied up, you'd know how big Pokémon are out here in the wild."
Max gasps, "I have SO studied Pokémon, and I'll prove it! Zigzagoon like the one we saw at the river are 16 inches tall and weigh 38.6 pounds. Shroomish are also 16 inches tall and weigh 9.9 pounds. And Sudowoodo are a Rock-Type and are 3 feet and 11 inches tall and weigh 83.8 pounds."
"That's very impressive, Max," Mew says.
"Thanks," Max says, "Of course, my Shoomish friend is a little smaller, but it's great to see them. And my Galarian Zigzagoon," He then calls them out, "Come on guys."
And the Galarian Zigzagoon and Shroomish make their appearance.
"I know all their statistics, but they just still look different now that I'm seeing them in person for the first time," Max adds.
"Different how?" May asks.
"When you're close to them, you feel them and smell their scent, and you can even see them breathe," Max says.
Then Molly says, "I know what you mean. Up close, they're really alive, right? All the reading about Pokémon in the world isn't nearly as cool, as the experience of seeing them or making friends with them."
"Yes. Tomo and I have a different experience," Mew says.
"That's right. You and Tomo were practically raised by them," Max says.
"That's right," Tomo says.
"I would like to visit the Pokemon Preservation area where you're raised, Tomo," Max says.
"Me too," May says, "I also want to see the Pallet town Forest where you grew up in, Mew."
"And Professor Oak's Lab," Max says.
"Maybe someday," Mew says.
Suddenly, howling is heard.
"What was that?" Molly asks, worried.
Sounded close," May says.
Jen soon spots something, "Up there!"
Everyone looks up and spots three Pokémon of the same species howling before they jump down and confront them.
The three are mammalian Pokémon that strongly resemble a cross between a canine and a hyena. Its fur is mostly short and gray, but its lower legs, tail, and two thick shaggy strips starting behind its eyes and running the length of its body are black. It has dark, triangular streak patterns below its eyes, which are red with yellow sclera. Its ears are rhombus-shaped with dark insides, its nose is red, and it has gray paw pads.
"Uh-oh," Jen and Molly react, worried.
"What are they?" May asks.
"They're Mightyena," Max says.
"And they don't look friendly," Mew says and brings out her Pokedex.
Dextette says, "Mightyena, the Bite Pokemon. A Dark Type. Mightyena is the evolved form of Poochyena. They move primarily in packs, working together to capture their prey.
The Mightyena trio growled at the group.
"They look pretty strong," Jen says.
"What do we do?" May asks.
"Well, it doesn't look like they're willing to talk. We have no choice, but to battle them," Mew says.
Mew turns to Pikachu, "Ready Pikachu?"
"Pika!" (Bring it!) Piakchu says.
Brock then calls out, "Help me out, Forretress!"
Forretress comes out.
Then May calls out, "Come on, Torchic!"
And Torchic comes out.
"Pika!" (Let's go!) Pikachu says.
All three Pokémon stand ready for battle before the pack went on the attack.
Mew calls out, "Pikachu, use Thunderbolt!"
Pikachu fries the attack, but the head Mightyena dodges easily before nailing Pikachu.
"Pikachu!" Mew cries out.
Brock then calls out, "Forretress, Tackle attack!"
Forretress charges in, but a gray blur comes in and takes it out, then Torchic, then Mew and Brock before it's revealed to be a Poochyena.
Poochyena, as its name implies, is a quadrupedal Pokémon similar in appearance to hyenas and canines. Its body is primarily gray with a black face and throat, paws, and belly. Its eyes are red with yellow sclerae, and it has a red nose. Its lower jaw has two pointed teeth sticking out. The fur at the base of its tail is rumpled and shaggy. Poochyena has gray paw pads on its three-toed paws.
And then running from behind is another Poochyena, but it looks like it's much younger.
"Hey! There's a Poochyena! Two of them!" Max says.
"And a fast one!" Jen says.
"And the other one looks smaller," Tomo says.
"Why are you attacking us?" Molly asks, worried.
The Poochyena stands its ground with the Mightyena, until… "That's enough, Poochyena!"
The group is promptly taken aback. They see a woman wearing a pinkish red outfit, with a dark red hat with a yellow stripe. Light purple pants and brown boots. She has fair skin, blue eyes, and dark green hair.
The woman asks, "Do you mind telling me what you're doing here? This entire area is a Pokémon preserve."
Mew gets up, "Really? We're sorry. We didn't know."
"We're just cutting through on our way to Rustboro City," May says.
"Yeah. I'm going there to have a gym battle," Mew says.
The woman says, "I didn't mean to sound suspicious. But we get poachers here sometimes, so I really have to be careful. I'm Katrina. I'm a ranger for this Pokémon preserve."
"Hi, I'm Ashley. It's nice to meet you," Mew says.
"And I'm May," May says.
"I'm Max, Katrina," Max says.
"I'm Jen," Jen says.
"I'm Tomo," Tomo says.
"And I'm Molly," Molly says.
Brock then gets up to Katrina, "And my name's Brock, but you can call me sweetheart. Or Romeo. Or whichever you prefer."
"Um, wow," Katrina says, sounding uneasy.
Mew sighs, "Here we go again."
Brock continues, "It must've been fate that we would find each other here, Katrina! You're like a beautiful flower growing in the wild and I'm…"
But before Brock can finish, the Mightyena and Poochyena, even the little Poochyena pounce and go on the attack.
Brock cries out, "Hey! No biting! Ow!"
Elsewhere, Team Rocket wanders around.
"These woods are supposed to be full of Pokémon. We've been walking for hours and haven't seen a single one," Jessie says,
"No decent restaurants, neither," Meowth says.
"At this point, I'd settle for a chili dog stand," James says.
"A hot dog," Jessie says.
"Sauerkraut and mustard," Meowth adds.
Suddenly, something zooms past them, that being a Murkrow.
"What's that, Meowth?" James asks.
"Don't you recognize it from Johto? Just a lousy Murkrow," Meowth says.
Then James notices, "Hey! Look over there!"
Jessie and Meowth look off to the right.
Jessie sees the different Pokemon, "Hoothoot. And an Aipom. And a Furret. And a Spinarak."
"Dis is great! Dere are Pokémon comin' outta da woodwoik!" Meowth says.
Then Wobbuffet pops out with the sign, "Wobbuuuuuuuffet!" (I found this!)
"No one asked you, alright?" Jessie says, annoyed.
Then James notices the sign, "What's that sign it's holding on to?"
"Does it mention hot dogs?" Meowth asks.
"Let's see now," Jessie leans to the sign and reads it, "''This marks the boundary of the Pokémon preserve, so no trespassing, this means you.'"
"Pokémon preserve?" Team Rocket responds.
"How interesting," Jessie says.
"A Pokemon hodgepodge," James says.
"A whole group ta scoop," Meowth says.
Meanwhile, Mew and the others are escorted to the preserve center.
Katrina says, "Welcome to the preserve center. This is where we nurse sick and injured Pokémon back to health."
As Katrina talks, we see various Pokémon resting up.
"I can't believe how many different Pokémon you're taking care of, Katrina," May says.
"Yeah. This little one got injured when it was lost in the woods, but it's almost all better now," Katrina says, and sets down the Azurill she was talking about before it hops away.
"You're great! You're the girl I've been looking for! To work alongside and share my dream of caring for and healing Pokemon!" Brock happily says.
"You're a doctor? What kind?" Katrina asks.
"Well, all kinds. MD, CD, DJ…" Brock says, but as he approaches Katrina, Poochyena attacks again.
Katrina scolds it, "Poochyena! What kind of behavior is that, huh?! Now no more Tackling, or you get a time out!"
"She even knows how to scold beautifully," Brock says.
Later, as everyone sits down for lunch, Max analyzes both Poochyena with Mew's Pokédex. The smaller Poochyena jumps on Max and begins lucking him. Max giggles to see how friendly it is.
Dextette says, "Poochyena, the Bite Pokémon. A Dark Type. Poochyena is the pre-evolved form of Mightyena. Its biting strength is superior to other Pokémon and has the endurance to chase opponents down until completely exhausted."
"It probably won't be long now before you both evolve into a Mightyena," Max says.
But Katrina says, "I'm not so sure, especially the smaller one."
"Huh?" Max responds, confused.
Katrina then explains, "That Poochyena was born at the same time as those other three, but they all evolved into Mightyena together. And that was a while ago."
"So this Poochyena's way behind schedule. I wonder why," Max says.
"Well, my guess is that its habit of using Tackle attack on everyone has kept it out of too many battles. But I wouldn't worry about it," Katrina says.
"Why not?" Max asks, confused.
Katrina explains, "It's really not a problem, Max. When you've seen as many Pokemon as I have, you know that each one evolves at its own pace. And when the time is right, Poochyena will evolve, too. It's also possible that it may never evolve at all, and that's okay too."
"No, it's not!" Max refuses, which causes Poochyena to wake up, "Everybody knows when a Pokemon evolves, it gets much more powerful. That gives it advantage in battle and confidence to take care of itself. Poochyena, you want to become more powerful, right?"
Poochyena just looks at him, confused. Even the little Poochyena looks at Max with a confused look.
"Just think about how cool it'll be once you've evolved and you can run through the woods and mountains with the other Mightyena," Max says.
The little Poochyena actually becomes excited.
"Looks like the little one is," Max says.
Katrina giggles, "Yes. This one is very eager. You see, this one is a she, and is actually younger than the others Mightyena and Poochyena."
"Oh, so she's not ready to evolve yet," Max says.
"That's right. She still has ways to go, but is determined to train," Katrina says.
Max giggles, "She's great," And pat the little Poochyena on the head.
May says in thought, "I have to admit, he makes evolving sound pretty good. Just imagine, my Torchic evolved."
May starts to fantasize a larger, more manly and much taller and bigger Torchic.
Torchic says, "Torchic, Torchic." (Look at me, I'm all buff!)
Fantasy ends.
May groans awkwardly and sweat drops, "Maybe not," And gets an idea, "Oh, I know. I'll check it on my Pokédex, She then gets out her Pokédex.
Dextette says, "Combusken, the Young Fowl Pokémon. A Fire and Fighting Type. Combusken is the evolved form of Torchic. Its quick, powerful kicking legs can deliver as many as ten kicks per second."
"Well, that would be totally awesome, right?" May says.
"So a Combusken, huh?" Max says.
"Yeah, so?" May questions.
"Well, you want a Combusken, and I want to see a Pokémon evolve. So give it a try. There must be something you can do to help Torchic evolve," Max says.
"Okay, yeah," May says.
But Mew says, "You can't."
"Huh?" May and Max respond, confused.
"You can't get a Pokémon to evolve just because you want it to. Your Pokémon has to gain experience first through battling, and it takes a while," Mew says.
Max is disappointed, "Great. Why does stuff take so long?"
Even Poochyena shows a bit of disappointment.
"Don't get all bummed out about it. If evolving Pokémon was quick and easy, it wouldn't be any fun anyway," Brock says.
"What do you mean?" Max asks.
"Just think. Pokémon only evolve after they've battled and traveled with you for a long time. All those wins and losses and getting to know each other on the way are part of the experience. That's the thing that's so cool about evolution," Mew says. Then turns to her Pokemon, "Right, guys?"
"Pika Pika." (Absolutely) Pikachu says.
Ëevee!" (That's true!) Eevee says.
Then May asks, "Speaking of which, why hasn't Pikachu evolved after all this time?"
"Yeah, if you said you traveled with it for 4 years already, it should've become a Raichu a while ago," Max says.
Then May says, "Well, as strong as Pikachu is, if he hasn't evolved yet, then I guess I can forget about my Torchic evolving any time soon."
But Mew says, "That's not true, May. You can't compare Torchic and Pikachu 'cause they both evolve in different ways."
"Pikachu." (She's gotta point.") Pikachu says.
"Are you saying there are different kinds of evolutions?" May asks.
Just then, Brock says, "Allow me. When Poochyena evolves into Mightyena or Pineco evolves into Forretress, for both of them, it's all a matter of the level they've reached. Other Pokémon, such as Pikachu, need one of a group of special stones to shape their evolution. Pikachu will only evolve into a Raichu if a Thunder Stone is the one that's used. Probably the most famous Pokémon when it comes to the concept of branched evolution is Eevee. The very same Eevee, depending on whether a Thunder Stone, Water Stone, or Fire Stone is used, can evolve into a Jolteon, a Vaporeon, or a Flareon."
Then Brock says, "And depending on the strong skill and how strong their friendship and either day or night, and even possible of a sun shard or moon shard, Eevee can evolve into Espeon or Umbreon. Eevee can also evolve into Leafeon by leaving up and near Moss Rock, or exposed to a Leafstone. Same with Glaceon, but will level up near an ice rock or an Ice Stone. Lastly, Eevee will evolve into Sylveon upon leveling with a strong friendship with its trainer and able to learn a Fairy Type Attack. So you see, what we call evolution can actually mean a lot of different things. Ready for the test? Define Pokemon evolution in an essay of 9,000 words. Just kidding, that's all for today, class."
May is impressed, "Wow. Thank you, Brock."
"Yeah, I think I understand now," Max says, "And since I know how cool it is, I'm even more determined to see a Pokémon evolve! Let's do it. It'll be really great," He happily laughs, "Come on, May."
"But, Max, didn't you hear what Mew, the guys, and Brock just told us? You can't make a Pokemon evolve just because you want it to," May says.
Max asks May, "Why do you always have to be a big bummer when it's something that I want to do? All we need to do is give this Poochyena a little push, and it'll evolve."
"Huh?" Katrina says.
"What are you talking about?" Mew asks.
"Since we know this Poochyena's friends have already evolved into Mightyena, and since all four of them were born at the same time, this one is obviously ready to evolve any minute now, and I don't want to miss it. We've just got to stay here till it happens, please," Max says.
"We're supposed to be on our way to Rustboro," Tomo says.
Then Katrina says, "And remember, there's no guarantee it'll evolve soon, but I do have room if you want to stay here for a while."
Still lovestruck, Brock takes her hand, "We accept, Katrina. I agree we should be together, and if you need any help with the housework."
"Uh, okay," Katrina sweat drops and laughs nervously.
Brock felt his ear get pulled.
Brock suddenly feels his ear being pulled, "Ow! Who's pulling my ear?!"
And surprisingly, it's Mew, "I am! Seriously Brock, do I need to take over Misty's job to stop flirting with girls?"
"Mew?! Not you too?!" Brock cries out.
Tomo, Jen, and Molly begin laughing, thinking it's funny that Mew is now in charge of Brock's flirting.
"Poochyena," Max picks up Poochyena, "...don't you worry. I'm gonna do everything I can to help you evolve, 'kay?"
Poochyena whimpers confused.
"You're gonna be a big Mightyena before you know it," Max says.
Soon, young Poochyena begins barking.
Max turns to the young one, "You wanna come?"
Little Poochyena agrees with a bark.
Later there is a commotion going on behind the Preserve center.
"Okay, Poochyena. Try it once more," Max says.
We see Torchic reeling after getting tackled by Poochyena off-screen/
"No, you used Tackle again. You've got to start using Bite instead, Poochyena. It does lots more damage," Max says.
"Chy." (But.) Poochyena questions.
But Max says, "Try again, and use Bite this time."
Poochyena reluctantly agrees.
"Go, Poochyena!" Max says.
Poochyena leapt forward, but curled up for a Tackle.
"No, not again!" Max cries out.
But then Torchic quickly retaliated with an Ember attack that burned Poochyena to a crisp before it fell to the ground
"Hey, are you alright?" Max asks.
Torchic then used Ember on him, which resulted in Max getting burned to a crisp before collapsing. Torchic proudly walked away afterwards.
"You used Ember. I thought we agreed that you weren't gonna use Ember attack. Oh, boy," Max says, annoyed and blows out smoke.
The small Poochyena walks to Max and lucks his face.
Max giggles, "Thanks."
Later, inside the center, we see the Pokemon eating.
"Pretty good, huh, guys," Mew says.
Max then comes in with the two Poochyena, "Ashley, can I borrow Pikachu for a minute?"
"Huh?" Mew says, confused.
"Or maybe Eevee or Treecko or Taillow would be better, or maybe even all three," Max asks.
"Mind if I ask why?" Mew asks.
Suddenly, May says, "Don't do it, Ashley!"
Max shivers and notices May and Torchic coming forth.
"Uh…" Max responds, realizing he's busted.
Then May says, "He's gonna make them lose on purpose so that Poochyena will evolve, aren't you?"
"Tor, Torchic," (It's the truth.) Torchic confirms it.
"What? Max, is that what you've been doing?" Mew asks, shocked.
"Yeah. But Ashley, how else can I get Poochyena to evolve?" Max asks.
"I know this means a lot to you, but it won't mean anything to Poochyena if it ends up evolving in some battle that was just faked anyway. You don't want that," Mew says.
"No," Max says.
Outside Max was sitting silent and disappointed while watching Poochyena doing Tackle over and over again with one one of the Mightyena. The little Poochyena is also training with the older Poochyena and three Mightyena to get some practice.
"There's got to be some way I can help you. But what? I'm stuck," Max says.
Soon, Mew calls out, "Max."
"Huh?" Max says.
Max looks up and sees Mew and the others.
"Hi, guys," Max says.
"Something else I thought of," Mew says, "Lots of Pokémon are happy the way they are, and they don't even want to evolve. Pikachu has learned lots of ways to be just as powerful as he would have been even if he had evolved to Raichu. Right, pal?
"Pikachu." (You know it.) Pikachu says.
Then Mew says to Eevee, "Same with Eevee, she's able to learn a lot of attacks without evolving at all."
"Eevee!" (That's true!) Eevee says.
"You understand?" Mew says.
"Yeah, I get it. You don't want me to cheat. Don't worry," Max says, and runs off.
"Max, that's not what I mean. Where're you going?" Mew asks.
"Come on, Poochynea," Max says.
Soon, both Poochyena follows.
"Max, wait!" Mew calls out, but Max and the two Poochyena are gone.
"Seems that Max is determined to get Poochyena to evolve," Tomo says.
"Yeah, but doesn't seem to understand that it might not want to," Jen adds.
Suddenly, they hear Katrina's voice, "What up?"
"Still trying to help my brother," May says.
"What's going on in the Preserve, Katrina?" Brock asks.
"I found this," Katrina says and presents something.
"Huh?" The group responds.
It was a piece of net.
"What's that?" Molly asks.
"It's part of a trap for catching Pokémon," Katrina says.
"A trap?" Brock asks.
"That means…" May says.
"There are poachers out there," Mew says.
Meanwhile, a Sentret, Furret, Sudowoodo, Azurill, Shroomish, Zigzagoon, and an Aipom caught in a net. And they are all captured by Team Rocket.
They cheer, "Oh, yeah! We rock! We rock!"
"This is gonna get us that promotion for sure!" Jessie says.
"Or at least a good, hearty tank-you," Meowth says.
Jessie happily says, "I can buy a new house."
"I could move out of Mom's," James happily says.
Then they both cheer, "Let's partay!"
Suddenly, Meowth says, "Guys!"
"Huh?" James and Jessie respond, confused.
"Tings only keep getting bettah!" Meowth says.
They peek through the bushes and spot Max and the two Poochyena walking in the woods.
"This looks like a good spot, Poochyena. Now remember, you can't evolve with faked battles, but we can at least make sure your first opponents are easy ones," Max says.
Big Poochyena just looked confused.
"Let's see," Max says and spots a Murkrow, "We should probably avoid flying Pokemon because they're hard to hit with direct attacks, "Then look at a Paras, "And we don't want to battle Pokemon that have special attacks like Stun Spore either. Anything else is fair game."
Poochyena barks in response, (Understood.)
Little Poochyena barks happily.
Max giggles, "Sure. you can get a little training too."
"Well, it's the little mini-twerp," Jessie says.
"Our lucky day," James says
"And isn't that a Poochyena?" Jessie responds,
"Are you tinkin' what I'm tinkin'?" Meowth asks.
Max explains, "I know you like to use Tackle, and you're really good at it, but remember, it'll only be effective against an opponent that's your size or smaller."
Poochyena just sighs, still confused. Little Poochyena is confused.
"So you're gonna have to start using Bite. Pay attention to me, and you're gonna evolve. I promise," Max says.
Hearing the conversation, Meowth says, "I get it. He's tryin' to evolve it into a Mightyena by playin' coach."
"What do you say we give the little twerp a helping hand?" Jessie replies.
Both Poochyena yawns.
Max looks around, "Hmm. Now let's find a good opponent for you to battle."
And soon, they both spot something on their right, "Hmm?"
What Max and the two Poochyena find is that a strange machine was a big machine.
"Wow! What's this?" Max asks, amazed.
Both Poochyena gasps in amazement.
But Max decides to ignore it, "Nah. Walk away."
Max and the two Poochyena were just about to, until…
Suddenly, a voice calls out, "Red alert!"
"Huh?" Max responds, confused.
Max looks back and sees Jessie and James in disguise
"Our secret laboratory has been discovered! Whatever will we do?" Jessie calls out.
"It's a disaster!" James cries out.
Jessie comes to Max and asks, "Can you be trusted to keep our research a secret?"
"Strictly hush-hush?" James whispers.
"I guess so," Max says, "What exactly is your research?
"If I told you, it wouldn't be top-secret Pokémon evolution research anymore, would it?" James says.
"Evolution research?" Max questions.
James sarcastically says, "Oh, dear. Did that really slip out of my mouth?"
"Well, now that he knows, let's just show him a little bit," Jessie says.
"Keep this under your hat," James says.
"I don't have a hat, but I can keep a secret," Max says.
"Okay," Jessie says and brings up Meowth, "Here we have your basic Meowth. I simply place it gently inside the machine."
"And pull the lever thingy," James says.
Pulls the lever and shuts the machine door. There are strange distorted humming noises before James pulls the lever up to reveal Meowth dressed as a Persian.
"Behold," Jessie announces.
Meowth calls out, "Poisian."
"That's incredible! You evolved a Meowth into a Persian in like five seconds!" Max says, amazed.
Poochyena simply sighs with concern
"Usually faster. We call it the, 'You got it, we evolve it Mark One machine.'" Jessie says
"So, what do you think?" James asks.
"That was so cool! Can you do it some more?" Max answers.
Then Jessie says, "Well, I don't see why not. We'll use the same Persian, but this time..."
"We'll reset the controls for something else," James says.
The door soon closes as James talks.
Meowth says, "One, two, tree, four, five."
The door opens up to reveal the 'Persian' had turned into a 'Sunflora'.
Meowth calls out, "Sun, Sun, Sun, Sun."
Max gasps in shock, "Persian evolved into a Sunflora? But that's not possible."
"Oh, sure. That's what they all told Albert Einstein before he invented the light bulb. I guess he showed them what's not possible, didn't he?" Jessie says.
"Edison invented the light bulb," Max says.
Embarrassed, Jessie says, "He certainly did. Shall we move on?"
"Stand by," James says and pulls the lever, "Here goes."
The door shuts to reveal 'Sunflora' turning into an Azurill.
"Azurill," Meowth calls out.
Then into an 'Aipom.'
Meowth calls out, "Aipom."
Then into a 'Murkrow'.
"Murkrow," Meowth calls out.
The door shuts again and inside we see Meowth going through his costumes.
"Heh. I'm pretty good. dey're going a bit quick for my motivation to really kick in. Ah, but my fans need me," Meowth says.
But then the door was heard opening.
Meowth cries out, "Ah! Wait. I'm not ready yet!"
The door opened to show Meowth in a mixed up costume combination of Persian, Sunflora, and Aipom.
"Per-meow-sun?" Meowth questions.
"Hmm," Max responds, getting suspicious.
Jessie and James gasp and block Meowth while laughing nervously.
"What do you say we give your Poochyena a try?" James asks.
"We'll turn it into any Pokémon you'd like it to be," James says.
However, Max sees through the trick, "I knew it was rigged! Let's go, Poochy…"
Both Poochyena barks in agreement.
But Jessie quickly snatches the two Poochyena, "Wait. Uh... Let's just give it a try."
Max calls out, "No. Give it back!"
"No need to worry. We do this all the time. Here goes," Jessie says.
She puts Poochyena in the machine and James shuts the door as the scared Poochyena whimpers. All the while, Max was being held back by Jessie and James.
"Ah! No!" Max cries out.
Then Jessie says, "Go ahead, Meowth."
Meowth was heard snickering before the machine exploded. Max groaned as the smoke cleared and then gasped to discover the Meowth Balloon before the disguised Jessie and James laugh evilly.
"Thanks for your cooperation," Jessie says.
"Off we go to the lab," James says.
Poochyena whimpers, frightened. The little Poochyena tries to get out as she whimpers.
Max shouts, "Give them back to me!"
"We can't," Jessie says.
"All in the name of science!" James says.
Max grits his teeth.
Suddenly May's voice calls out, "Max."
"Huh?" Max turns to see May and the others.
"Are you okay, Max?" Mew asks.
Max gasps in relief, "Hey, you guys. I'm so glad you're here."
Jessie chuckles sinisterly.
"So are we," James says.
Then Katrina confronts them, "You must be the poachers, aren't you?"
Soon, Team Rocket performs the motto.
Jessie:
Prepare for trouble as we blind you with science.
James:
And make it double, while we show our defiance using something more simple than a kitchen appliance.
Jessie:
Shall we reveal who we are?
They took off their disguises.
Jessie and James:
Whee!
Jessie:
To protect the world from devastation.
James:
To untie all peoples within our nation.
Jessie:
To denounce the evils of truth and love.
James:
To extend our reach to the stars above.
Jessie:
Jessie.
James:
James.
Jessie:
Team Rocket blasts off at the speed of light.
James:
Surrender now or prepare to fight, fight, fight.
Meowth:
Meowth, dat's right.
Wobbuffet:
Wobbuffet! (End of scene!)
"Team Rocket!" Mew exclaims.
"What are you up to now?" Brock demands.
"Just this," James says.
They soon extend two mechanical arms toward Mew.
Jessie says, "Look. Up there."
"Huh?" Mew questions as she, Pikachu, and Eevee do just that.
Then the mechanical arms snatch Pikachu and Eevee.
"Pikachu! Eevee!" Mew calls out.
James and Jessie bring over Pikachu and Eevee
"I've got to hand it to myself," James says.
"So long, fools!" Jessie says.
"See ya," Team Rocket says.
The balloon floats away.
"Don't it feel good when you get everytin' on your shopping list?" Meowth says.
Trapped in the net attached the balloon, both Poochyena in the net with the other trapped Pokémon under the balloon while the two Poochyena whimpers in fear, but soon spots the Mightyena trio following behind from below.
"You won't get away, Team Rocket!" Mew shouts.
Mew then calls out, "Taillow, let's go!"
Taillow comes out, flies up to the balloon and then begins to peck them all. The balloon then started to descend
"Way to go, Taillow!" Mew cheers.
Max runs ahead as he calls out, "Hang on," He picks up speed till he's right next to the Mightyena.
Max calls out, "Poochyena! Remember what we worked on! Use Bite!"
Poochyena, however, was too afraid to do anything. Little Poochyena is very scared.
Max calls out, "Don't be afraid! Just bite through the net! If you do, you can save all your friends. Do it for your sister.
Poochyena looked at the other captured Pokémon and sister Poochyena in the net as they chattered in as much worry as Poochyena was in.
"Bite it, Poochyena! Bite! You can do it! I believe in you!" Max calls out.
Poochyena finally worked up the courage and bit a hole in the net. Surprising everyone.
"Way to go!" Max cheers.
Both Poochyena and the other Pokémon fell out of the now opened net, catching Jessie's and Meowth's attention
"Now dat's takin' a bite outta crime!" Meowth says.
Meanwhile, Taillow was still pecking James's head, and in moments, Pikachu and Eevee are free and escaped.
"Huh?" Team Rocket reacts.
Pikachu and Eevee shout in their language, (Payback time!)
"Taillow!" (You crooks are in deep trouble!) Taillow says.
Mew calls out, "Now, Pikachu, Eevee, Thunderbolt!"
Pikachu and Eevee use Thunderbolt together and shock Team Rocket before destroying their balloon and sending them flying
Team Rocket cries out, "Looks like Team Rocket's blasting off again!"
"Wobbuffet! (Buh-bye, now!) Wobbuffet cries out.
Soon, Team Rocket is gone.
Max happily holds Poochyena, "You did it, Poochyena. You saved the day."
Poochyena howls happily
"Ashley was right," Max happily says to Poochyena, "You're already a great Pokémon, whether you ever evolve or not."
Poochyena howled in agreement. Little Poochyena barks and licks her brother. Just then, Big Poochyena begins to glow.
Max gasps in shock, "What's wrong?!"
"Why is it glowing?" May asks.
"It's beginning to evolve," Karina says.
"No way!" Max says, surprised.
Poochyena began to morph into a bigger and leaner shape as its paws and legs got bigger and leaner
Max is amazed, "Awesome! Look, May!"
"Yeah," May says.
Poochyena continued to morph until the glow faded and revealed a howling Mightyena.
"Amazing. It's a Mightyena!" Max happily says.
Little Poochyena barks happily and jumps for joy.
The Mightyena trio gathered around their friend and nuzzled it as a way of saying congratulations
"Evolution's such a cool thing," May says, amazed.
"No doubt about that," Brock says.
"Way to go, Poochy... " Max says, and soon corrects himself, "I mean Mightyena. (hugs it, "You're the greatest Pokémon I've ever, ever known."
"I betcha that Poochyena really understood how you felt, Max," Mew says.
"And it evolved for you," Katrina says.
"Yeah," Max laughs happily.
Soon, Little Poochyena barks happily and licks Max. She then barks happily.
"Hey little Poochyena, you seem really excited," Max says.
He then asks, "You wanna travel with me."
Poochyena happily barks, jumps to Max and begins licking Max.
The group begins giggling.
"We'll take that as a yes," May says.
Max hugs Poochyena, "I'll take good care of you girl."
Max brings out the Pokeball and taps the little Poochyena and catches her."
Thanks to trust and a little persistence, Max and May witness Pokémon evolution for the first time, but on top of that Max has a new friend in the group. And as their journey continues, they're sure to experience many more secrets from the world of Pokémon.
