Episode 13: The Lotad Lowdown
One day, Tomo runs towards somewhere in his swim trunks.
Tomo shouts, "Cowabunga!"
He leaps and lands in a body of water. Skwovet and Meloeta do the same and dive in the water.
Soon, May runs over in a yellow bikini, "Alright!" and jumps in the water.
Mew runs over in a red swimsuit, Jen is wearing a purple swimsuit, and Molly is wearing a light blue swimsuit.
All three cheer, "Here we come!" and jump into the water.
The other Pokemon jump inside the Water as well.
Max also runs towards the lake in a pair of green swim trunks, "Hey, wait for me! Yeah!" and jumps in.
As they continue their travels through the Hoenn Region, Mew and her friends find time for a little relaxation when the opportunity presents itself. They are swimming, splashing, and having fun. Molly is also swimming with a pink inner tube with light blue flowers.
Brock is on a large rock doing some stretches, "Four, and five. There's nothing more important than warm-up before a good work out. I'm loose as a goose. Now," and carefully dips his right foot in the water, Brock slips and falls in causing everyone to burst into laughter, unaware that something was watching underneath the waves, "Would you just smell that air? It's so clean and fresh."
Meanwhile, multiple eyes watch them from underwater. Back on the surface, Tomo begins splashing Max while Jen splashes May.
Suddenly, Pikachu soon senses something, "Pika Pika." (Guys, we got company.)
"What's up, Pikachu?" Mew asks.
Soon, Eevee says, "Eev Eevee?" (What's that?)
"Huh?" Brock responds.
"What is it?" May asks.
"I think we've got company," Jen says.
They soon see some mysterious lily pads moving towards them. May screams in fright that can be hard all over the forest.
"What are those things?" May asks, scared.
"I don't know, but there's a lot of them!" Max panics.
"We're surrounded!" Molly cries out.
"Come on, let's get back on shore, quick!" Mew says
They all swim for it, but Max soon gets dragged down.
"No, Max!" Brock cries out.
Followed by May, then Brock. Mew, Tomo, Jen, Molly, and the Pokemon.
Then, everyone else in the water gets dragged down and they all come face to face with several Pokémon. Each of them is a small, blue plant Pokémon with six stubby legs. It has large eyes and a wide, yellow mouth similar to a bill. A large leaf that resembles a lilypad covers its back. This large leaf allows Lotad to float across ponds. All of them seem to be happy. But then, they pile up underneath the group and propel them to shore where the others were.
"Ow! That hurts!" Jen says.
"You said it!" Tomo says.
"What was that?" May asks.
Max becomes excited, "Those were Lotad."
"They sure look cute," Mew says and brings out her Pokedex.
Dextette: Lotad, the Water Weed Pokémon. A Water and Grass Type. Lotad inhabit peaceful wetlands, like lakes and ponds."
"You sure are right, they are kinda cute," May says.
"So this lake must belong to these Lotad," Max says.
The Lotad hop out of the lake, causing May to hide behind Max.
"Here they come," May says, startled.
"They seem friendly. I think they're fine," Tomo says.
"I think they just want to play. Don't worry," Max says.
"Yeah. I think Max is right," Brock says.
The Pokemon have to agree.
The Lotad rear up and each fire a Water Gun into the air.
"Hey, I wonder if they're trying to give us a special welcome," Mew says.
"Maybe," Brock says, skeptic.
"But something is weird. Normal Lotad can't use Water Gun," Max says, curious.
Brock then notices, "Look!"
And everyone looks and sees one Lotad with a weak Water Gun.
"I guess that little guy can't keep up," Brock says.
"You're right," Jen says.
The Water Guns soon ceasefire.
"Poor thing," Molly says.
"Yeah. Just needs a little more oomph," May says.
Brock approaches the Lotad with the weak Water Gun, "Hey, little guy. You know, your buddies have all been…"
But Lotad accidentally launches a powerful Water Gun at Brock's face.
Everyone laughs.
Suddenly, someone shouts, "Hey, you!"
Everyone looks to see a young girl behind them. They see a young girl with fair skin, red hair, and purple eyes. She is also wearing a white collared shirt with rolled up sleeves.
The girl says, "This lake belongs to the Lotad and you can't swim here. Now you will come with me at once."
"You and Miss Bossy-pants would be a perfect match, Max," May says.
Max glares at his sister, "Can it, May."
Then Max questions, "And why should we be coming with you, ma'am?"
"I'll tell you. FOR A LECTURE!" The girl shouts out of nowhere.
That causes everyone to get startled by the sharp response.
Meanwhile, Team Rocket is seen wandering around the forest, completely parched.
All three say in exhaustion, "Must. Find. Water."
"Where are we anyway?" Jessie asks.
"We're in da forest," Meowth says.
"I have eyes! I can see that! I want the name of this forest!" Jessie whines.
"If I knew dat, we wouldn't be wandering around here completely lost," Meowth says.
"True," Jessie says.
Suddenly, James collapses.
Jessie and Meowth panic, "James! You okay?"
"Pull yourself together, man!" Jessie cries out.
"You gotta get up!" Meowth panics.
James dramatically says, "No, I'm afraid this is the, end of the road. You two go on, without me. I've had a good life, but I can't be a burden any longer."
Jessie's eyes get teary, "What do you mean? You're coming with us to find water!"
"And when we do find water, you'll be da foist to drink!" Meowth cries with teary eyes as well.
"Such good friends. I'm going to miss you so terribly after I'm gone," James says.
Suddenly, they all spot a single berry hanging up in a tree.
"Is that a berry?" Jessie asks.
"It sure is! A Tamato berry, at that! A luscious, juicy Tamato berry's just what we need to be hydrated again!" Meowth happily says.
Both Jessie and Meowth run towards the tree, but quickly start fighting over the berry.
"Thank you, my friends, just one sip," James says.
When the two bite into the Tamato berry, they realize that it was extremely hot.
Meowth cries out, I'M ON FIAH! Dis is all your fault!"
"Save it, Meowth! Get me water!" Jessie cries out.
Wobbuffet then comes up and says, "Wobbuffet!" (Tamato berries are hot)
Up in a cabin near the lake…
Someone sternly says, "What were you thinking Natalie? You know that you should be kinder to travelers, right?"
Turns out is a grown woman who has fair skin, dark blue hair, and green eyes. Wears a pink shirt, blue shorts, and a yellow apron.
"I know, but, Nicole…" The red haired girl, Natalie says.
May smiles, "Well, well. Looks like she's the one getting lectured."
"You're right," Max says.
The woman, Nicole, turns to the group, "So, I apologize for my sister's rudeness."
"That's okay," Mew says.
Then Nicole says, "Thank you. I'm Nicole, and this is my sister, Natalie. The two of us run this little flower shop.
"Hi, I'm Ashley. It's nice to meet you," Mew says.
"And I'm May," May says.
"And my name's Max," Max says.
"I'm Tomo," Tomo says.
"I'm Jen," Jen says.
"And I'm Molly," Molly says.
"Welcome all," Nicole says.
And Brock suddenly takes Nicole's hand and says, "Hi. I'm Brock and you're beautiful. Mmm-mmm-mmm. The elegance of this flower shop is surpassed only by your exquisite elegance."
"Uh, thanks," Nicole sheepishly says.
Everyone just shrugs.
"As an authority on magnificence, I'm here to say you're the inspiration for it all," Brock says.
"You're very kind. I just baked a pie and it's almost finished cooling off. Would all of you like to join us for a slice?" Nicole says.
"Yeah, that sounds great," Mew says.
The others happily say, "Yes, please, we're so hungry."
Then Brock says, "It would be an honor and a privilege to sample the cooking skills of such a great talent!"
Suddenly, someone comes in through the back door.
Just then, someone else walks in, "Natalie, a watering pipe in the garden sprang a leak, again. This Wailmer pail is not gonna do the job," And notices Mew and the others, "Huh? Company?"
Turns out, it's another young woman who has short teal hair, blue eyes, wears a light bluish green body suit and dark magenta shirt underneath.
Brock panics, "Another vision of loveliness?"
Nicole chuckles with a smile, "I'd like you all to meet our other sister. This is Rita."
Brock then takes Rita's hand, "My dearest Rita, what I wouldn't do to have a watering can that could raise a flower as beautiful as you, sweet daisy. Rita."
Suddenly, Brock feels his ear pulled, "Ow! My ear!"
And once again, it's Mew, "Seriously Brock, do you really need me to act like Misty every time you see a pretty girl?"
Suddenly, Natalie pulls Brock's arm and asks, "Hold it. How come when you first met me you didn't have any of those nice things to say, Brock? You know that's very rude."
Once Mew lets go, Brock nervously says, "Well, you see, that is…"
Rita laughs, "Aha! Is this love at first sight again, Natalie?"
"Huh?" Brock says, confused.
"Love? At first sight?" May says, happily.
Jen giggles.
Later, the group is at the table having some pie.
"Yummy!" Mew, Jen, and Molly happily say.
"Sure is! I've never tasted anything like this before!" May says.
"They're berries from the Oran tree. They're my all time favorite," Nicole says.
"Because of the mild climate and rich soil, we're able to harvest all kinds of fruit," Rita says, "Would you like to see what else we're growing?"
"I'd love to, thanks," May says.
"We'd all love to see it," Mew says.
The Pokemon happily agree.
Brock ends up seeing his plate stacked with pieces of Oran berry pie.
"I made that pie from scratch, Brock, so I hope you enjoy every last bite," Nicole says.
"Uh, thanks. I'd love to. It looks really good," Brock says, sounding uneasy.
Soon, Mew and the others are out in the orchard, and May can hardly believe what she sees
May is amazed, "Wow! The air here is so clean!"
"Yeah, it'd be an awesome place to raise some Pokémon," Max says.
Mew then calls out, "Alright guys, come on out!"
Mew calls out Treecko, Taillow. Springatito, Fennekin, Plusle and Minun, and Faye the Togepi.
Brock likes the idea, "Good idea! You all come out too!"
Brock lets out Forretress, Pansage, Hoppin, Rockruff, and Grookey.
May then calls out, "Go, Torchic!"
Torchic comes out.
Tomo, Max, Jen, and Molly call out, "Come on out!"
Tomo calls out his Treecko, Willow, Cubone, Abra, Buneary, and Sage the Bulbasaur.
Max calls out Zigzagoon, Smroomish, and Poochyena.
Molly calls out Teddiursa, Yamper, Spinda, and Espeon.
Jen calls out Clefairy, Jigglypuff, Hatenna, and Bedew.
Before long, all the Pokémon appear to be enjoying their surroundings.
"They look so happy. Well, shall we go take a look?" Nicole says.
Brock is seen laughing nervously as Natalie pulls him along by the arm.
"Now don't, be, shy," Natalie says.
They soon see the garden.
"It's beautiful. I've never seen a garden like it," May
"Well, thank you, May. We also raise all kinds of different berries in our garden. For example…" Nicole says.
Everyone looks to the right.
Nicole then shows the berries, ""That Oran berry was in the pie you just ate. And that's a delicious Pecha berry. And that…"
Mew is surprised, "Wow. you grew Tamato Berries too."
"We sure do," Nicole says.
"What's a Tamoto Berry?" May asks.
"They're berries that are pretty spicy. I ate some when I was young, but papa always suggested I eat tiny pieces so they're not so spicy. They're very spicy if you take a big bite," Mew explains.
"Why would you grow berries like that?" Max asks.
"All of the berries have effects on Pokémon," Nicole says.
"Effects on Pokémon?" Max questions, surprised.
"Well, believe it or not, Max. Oran Berries can help restore a little bit of a Pokemon's energy after eating. A Pecha Berry can help cure a Pokemon when they get poisoned. A Tamato berry can lower a Pokemon's speed, but can actually make Pokemon and humans become more friendly.
"True, and if you crush them up into Pokémon food, they do all kinds of awesome things," Natalie says.
It's true. Like Mew said, they can heal injuries and restore energy," Nicole says, "All of the different berries have their own kind of effect. Over there are Citrus berries. Give them to a Pokémon, and they will be filled with energy."
"They don't look quite ripe yet," Brock says.
"We could find ripe ones in the forest," Natalie says.
"Citrus berries. Let's go look," Brock says.
"Yeah. Let's go find some," Mew says.
"You both seem very interested in the berries, Brock," Nicole says.
"Yes. I want to learn everything about breeding Pokémon," Brock says.
Then Natalie says, "I know. I could make you a list of what berry to give to which Pokémon and how much of it to give them. Would you like that, Brock?"
"You mean it?" Brock asks.
"Of course, silly. Anything for you.," Natalie happily says.
"Alright!" Brock says, sounding happy.
"I would do anything for my boyfriend," Natalie says.
Brock falls on his back in disbelief.
Just then, Rita walks over, "Nicole! Well, we're gonna have to put in all new pipes. Those joints are so old, we'd be much better off replacing the whole thing once and for all."
"I guess so, but that's a really big job," Nicole says.
Suddenly, the Lotad from the lake shows up with water in their lily pads.
"The Lotad?" Brock says.
"Yep," Rita says with a smile, "Hey, thanks for your help, guys!"
The Lotad proceed to water the trees and the flowers.
"How come they're helping?" May asks.
"Cause, it's their way of thanking us for growing all these berries for them," Natalie says.
The Lotad then use Water Gun to continue watering the plants.
Max then asks, "But, Nicole, I thought Lotad aren't supposed to use Water Gun."
"These are very special Lotad. The truth is, they perform all kinds of unusual attacks as they grow," Nicole says.
Then Mew says, "Hey, as long as we're all here, is it okay if we help out, too?"
Pikachu and Eevee agree.
"Yeah, let's!" May says.
"Great idea!" Max says.
"Let's," Jen says.
Then Brock says, "You'll get a hundred percent of Brock labor!"
Everyone cheers, "Alright!"
Meanwhile, Team Rocket is drinking from the lake.
"Oh, yeah. Back on track," James says, but turns his heads, "Hmm? Hey, guys? Are you okay?
Jessie and Meowth raise their heads from the water and show their lips are red from the heat of the Tamato they ate.
"As a matter of fact, no, we're not," Jessie and Meowth annoyed.
James chuckles nervously. He then spots something before getting out his binoculars, "What's that?" and zooms in on Mew and the others, "I'll be!"
"It's the goody-good patrol, with one more twerp added," Jessie says.
"And dey're joined by a load of Lotad," Meowth says.
"Lo-who?" Jessie questions.
"Lotad!" James says.
Then Meowth says, "I'm tinkin' we should get ahold of dat flock of flat-heads so we can make a present of them to present to da boss."
"Huh?" Jessie questions.
"And the end result?" James adds.
"Just listen and loin from Meowth," Meowth says.
He then has a fantasy, "Da boss'll wake up foist ting in da morning, and da last thing he'll wanna do is walk all da way to da bathroom and wash up, and dat's when a Lotad will show up wit its head full of water. Happily, he'll use dat Lotad to wash his face and brush his teeth. And maybe even wash his hair. And dat's when he'll say, 'It was cause of dat brilliant Meowth and Team Rocket dat I have dis convenience, so I'm gonna make em vice presidents.'
The fantasy added.
Jessie cheers, "It's brilliant! Genius, Meowth!"
"You're on it today!" James says.
"All togetha, now, say it!" Meowth says.
Team Rocket cheers, "Promotions! Vice presidency! Big money!"
"Alright, now, there's not a moment to lose! Let's lasso those Lotad!" Jessie says.
Team Rocket cheers, "Yee-haw!"
Meanwhile, May is seen carrying a bucket of water, "We're almost there."
Right next to May on her left are several Lotad carrying water on their heads with Max and Brock behind her while Pikachu and Torchic carry water on a leaf in front of them before Pikachu suddenly stops
"Pikachu, what's wrong?" May asks.
"Pika." (Up there.) Pikachu days.
Everyone looks ahead.
"Oh no," Max says.
"We've got a traffic jam," May says.
"It's because of that Lotad in front. It doesn't want to move," Max says.
"Hey, it's the Lotad from before," Tomo says.
"Yeah," Mew says.
Rita nods, "That one's a unique character."
"That's cute," Jen says.
Brock puts down his bucket, "Let's see here," and approaches the Lotad, "Excuse me. What's wrong? Lotad, are you okay?"
Lotad looks at him.
"Watch," Brock says, and bows his head, giving it a demonstration "Lower your head like that."
The Lotad looks at him then the flowers.
"Take your time. There's no need to rush," Brock says.
The Lotad then proceeds to lower its head and water the flowers.
"That's it! Good job, Lotad!" Brock says.
"Yeah!" Max cheers.
"Awesome! Way to go!" May cheers.
"Hey! Now that's the way," Rita says.
"See? You can do anything if you just try it," Brock says to Lotad.
The Lotad smiles before turning towards Brock and bowing before him.
"Look, Max," May says.
"I think Lotad is saying thank you," Max says.
The Pokemon agrees.
"That's okay. Just helping us out is all the thanks I need," Brock says, sheepishly.
Rita says, "Brock sure is a nice guy. He's gonna make a great breeder. It's really obvious that he cares a lot about Pokemon."
"Yeah. That's Brock alright," Mew says with a smile.
Not long, the sprinkler watering the flowers while our heroes bid farewell to the Lotad.
Rita says, "Thanks for all of your help today, Lotad. Now you go on back to the lake."
All but one of the Lotad agree and turn towards the water.
"Oh no. This little guy's been left behind again," Mew says.
Then Brock walks up to Lotad, "Hey. All of your buddies have already gone on home."
Suddenly, Nicole's voice cries out, "Rita!" and runs over. Nicole cries out, "It's awful! This is from Natalie!" and hands her a piece of paper.
Rita reads the note, "'Looking for Sitrus berries'?"
"Oh, no way!" Brock says, shocked.
Brock has a flashback to something he said earlier that day, "I'd love to see some fresh Citrus berries. Yes. I'd love to learn everything I can about breeding Pokemon."
Flashback ends.
"She went to get those Citrus berries for me. And I'm gonna go find her!" Brock says.
"Then I'll come with you!" Rita says.
"I wanna go, too," Mew says.
"I'll go too," Jen says.
"Me too," Tomo says.
Soon, everyone but Nicole, May, Molly and Max rush off.
Nicole calls out, "Be careful! It'll be dark soon, so please hurry back!"
Meanwhile, Natalie is seen looking for Sitrus berries.
Natalie says in thought, "Just wait, Brock. I'll find those Sitrus berries for you. You'll see."
Later that night.
Brock calls out, "Natalie! Where are you?!"
"Natalie!" Rita calls out.
Mew calls out, "Natalie, where are you?!"
"Natalie," Tomo calls out.
Pikachu and Eevee soon hear rustling in the bushes behind them.
"What is it?" Mew asks.
Pikachu says, "Pika Pika." (In the bushes.)
"Someone is in the bushes?" Mew asks.
" Natalie?" Brock questions.
Soon, one of the Lotad hops out of the bushes, surprising everyone.
"Look at this! It's my buddy, Lotad!" Brock says.
"It must've followed us," Tomo says.
The Lotad looks up towards Brock, and Brock picks up Lotad
"I know. You must be worried about Natalie, too, is that right?" Brock says.
Lotad looks at Brock.
Meanwhile, Natalie comes out of some bushes, "Ah!" and spots a Sitrus berry tree, "I found em! Sitrus berries!" She then proceeds to pick one, "Oh, good. Brock's gonna be so happy."
Soon, the bushes start rustling.
Natalie looks back, "Hey, who's there?"
Something leaps out of the bushes, startling Natalie to the point of screaming.
"Hey! Hear that?" Jen asks.
"It's Natalie!" Brock says.
"That way!" Rita says.
We soon see Natalie cornered by a Beedrill, who charges in with a Twin Needle attack.
Brock then calls out his Pokemon, "Forretress, use Rapid Spin!"
Forretress comes out and nails the Beedrill, forcing Beedrill to retreat.
"Natalie, you okay?" Brock asks.
Natalie looks up, "Huh? Hi, Brock," and stands up, "You saved me."
Rita rushes over, "Natalie, why'd you run off?"
"Yeah, you scared us," Mew says.
"I'm sorry. Brock, guess what!" Natalie says, and presents the berry she found, "A Sitrus berry!"
A little surprised, Brock takes the beery, "For me? Wow. Thanks, Natalie. That's sweet."
Natalie smiles.
"You're just lucky you're safe and sound, young lady," Rita says with her arms crossed.
Eevee suddenly hears something.
"Hear something, Eevee?" Mew asks.
"Pika Pika." (I think I do.) Eevee answers.
Everyone rushes down to the lake and finds a boat in the water.
"It's Team Rocket!" Mew says.
Team Rocket laughs right on cue
Jessie:
Prepare for trouble, we're on a Lotad run!
James:
Make it double, for a tad more fun!
Jessie:
To protect the world from devastation!
James:
To unite all peoples within our nation!
Jessie:
To denounce the evils of truth and love!
James:
To extend our reach to the stars above!
Jessie:
Jessie.
James:
James.
Jessie:
Team Rocket blasts off at the speed of light!
James:
Surrender now or prepare to fight, fight, fight!
Meowth:
Meowth! Dat's right!
Wobbuffet:
Wobbuffet! (End of scene!)
"What do you want?!" Tomo demands.
"Sorry, twerp, we'd love to play…" Jessie says.
"But there's so many Lotad and so little time!" James says.
"So if we're gonna be able to catch 'em all, we'd bettah hustle!" Meowth says.
But Mew says, "No, you wouldn't!"
Soon, Team Rocket drives the boat off as they call out, "Oh, yes, we will!"
Brock turns to the others, "We've gotta warn the Lotad!"
"Yes, but I don't think we'll ever make it in time!" Rita says.
Just then, Lotad then speaks.
"Lotad, what's up?" Brock asks.
Pikachu says to Lotad, "Pika! Pika Pikachu! Pika?" (Lotad! Let's warn the others, okay?)
"Pikachu, what are you and Lotad up to?" Mew asks.
Pikachu and the Lotad nod before Pikachu hops Lotad's lily pad and it fires a Water Gun to speed them both along to the other side of the lake.
"Come on, we gotta follow em! "Mew says.
Everyone else nods in agreement.
Meanwhile, as Team Rocket speeds along, the Lotad end up flowing right into their boat.
"All aboard, for our maiden voyage!" Jessie says.
"Now, what's the next step in this plan?" James asks.
"I can't say. Loose lips sink ships," Meowth says.
On the shore, Molly, May, Max and Nicole see what's going on.
Molly sees, "It's Team Rocket!"
"They're stealing all the Lotad!" Nicole says, shocked.
"Right! We're thieves, that's what we do!" Jessie says.
"So just stand back and enjoy the show," James adds.
And Meowth says, "It's history in da makin! And lots o Lotad for da takin!"
"Wobbuuuuuuuffet!" (All too true!) Wobbuffet says.
"This is terrible! "May says, worried.
But soon notices something speeding towards Team Rocket off from the right, which causes them to look the same way.
"Now what?" Meowth questions.
"Pika Pika!" (To the rescue!) Pikachu calls out.
Team Rocket is shocked, "What?! Pikachu?!"
"Pikachu and Lotad!" May says.
"Alright! Just look at em go!" Max cheers.
Pikachu leaps off of Lotad while it dives underwater, landing on the railing of the boat.
James panics to see Pikachu looking at him angrily, "Tell it to stop looking at me like that."
But Jessie says, "This is a perfect opportunity.
"We got all dese Lotad, and Pikachu, too!" Meowth says.
As Meowth talks, the hatch on the front of the boat closes before Lotad's friends surface. Right then and there, Lotad fires a powerful Water Gun that blows a hole right through the boat, allowing the other Lotad to escape, to the shock of Team Rocket.
"Leapin' Lotads! We're leakin!" Meowth cries out.
"Oh no!" James panics.
"Our dreams are floating away!" Jessie says.
"Wobbuuuuuuuffet!" (And sinking!) Wobbuffet panics.
Soon, Mew and the others arrive.
"Way to go, Lotad!" Brock cheers.
"Good job!" Rita says.
Then Mew says, "Come on, Pikachu! Now, Thunderbolt em! Eevee, help Pikachu!"
With that, Pikachu and Eevee both perform Thunderbolt and blow up the boat, sending Team Rocket flying.
"Rats! I guess this means I can kiss that corner office goodbye," Jessie responds.
"That's not all you can kiss, Jess," James says.
"We can kiss our butts goodbye!" Meowth says.
Then Team Rocket cries out, "Team Rocket's blasting off again!"
"Wobbuuuuuuuffet! ("As per usual!") Wobbuffet says.
Pikachu soon lands on one of the Lotad as it and the others celebrate.
"Well, looks like the Lotad are all okay," May says.
Nicole turns to Natalie, "But no more berry-hunting by yourself, okay, young lady?
Natalie laughs, "Okay, promise."
The next morning, Mew and the others are ready to head off.
Natalie gives Brock a book, "Here, Brock. This is a list of all the berries."
"Thank you so much, Natalie," Brock says, feeling pleased.
