Episode 24: Gone Corphishin
One sunny on a beach.
"Good morning! Hello?! It's a perfect day!" James happily calls out.
"Dat's right! It's a poifect day to finally catch dat sneaky old Pikachu and Eevee!" Meowth says.
A wave soon crashes behind James and Meowth.
"Meowth, who is number one?" James questions.
"We is, dat's who!" Meowth says.
Both of them cheer,"James and Meowth: What a blast!"
"Oh, give it a rest," Jessie speaks out.
James and Meowth look over and see Jessie relaxing.
"Since we're here on an island resort, why don't you two lighten up and relax before you explode?" Jessie says.
"And what kind of can-do attitude is that?!" James questions.
"You know what dey say; da road to ruination is paved wit dat kind of lazybones logic!" Meowth says.
But Jessie says, "And I always say; don't do today what you can put off till tomorrow, especially when it's May, the first month of summer."
"Woooobbuffet! (Absolutely!) Wobbuffet agrees.
James and Meowth see Wobbuffet relaxing as well
James cries out, "No! Come on, not you, too!"
"Dis is da same laziness dat leads to our day-to-day failures!" Meowth says.
Under the water, something surfaces and spots the trio.
James continues yelling at Jessie, "I'm calling for a strategy meeting, ASAP!"
"If her majesty can find some royal time off, "Meowth says, smugly
As Meowth talks, whatever surfaced surges toward the ledge.
Jessie continues to ignore them, "Oh, please! You two go work yourselves to death, not me."
Soon, Jessie hears whatever surfaced from the sea rushing towards her and her teammates before they all see in and scream in panic before it sends them flying.
"We're blasting off too soon! " Team Rocket cries out.
"WOOOOBBUFFET!" (WAY TOO SOON!) Wobbuffet cries out.
Soon, whatever attacked Team Rocket burrows underneath the sand and heads on its way.
Over at the campsite, where Mew and the others have spent the night, Mew and the others are awake and getting themselves ready for the day. Washing their faces, brushing their teeth, and Brock is making some breakfast. Taking the advice of Steven, a Pokémon trainer they met the previous day, Mew and the others have set up camp at an inlet on the far side of Dewford Island. Mew gets the preparation for her next gym battle.
Torchic is seen helping Brock start a fire to get some stew started while Mew and her Pokemon do some stretching. Soon, Mew and her friends are resting a bit as they look at the wave. Meanwhile, May, Max, and Jen are doing the laundry.
"Hmm, I wonder what Mew will be training for today?" May asks.
"Well, Mew will be training to earn her third bad, or to try earning her first ribbon at the next contest.
Soon, Forretress rises out of the water with a bunch of wet clothes on top of it before using Rapid Spin to quickly dry them.
"Thanks, Forretress!" Max and Jen reply.
Soon, the clothes fall gently into Max's hands.
"Well, now they're all dry. Awesome!" Max says.
May and the others notice that Mew and the Pokemon are now meditating.
"Well, from here right now, what she's doing doesn't look like training, looks more like sitting around doing nothing," May says.
"Yeah, well, now that you mention it…" Max says.
But Brock says, "They're training alright."
May and Max look over and see Brock making onigiri.
"I think Mew's training strategy is just what they need. Even though Mew won her second match, she knows that other gym leaders might be trained differently, so building up patience and calm judgment rather than building up technique and power."
While Mew and her Pokémon meditate, Taillow slightly panics as a wave builds up and comes toward them.
"No, just keep cool," Mew says.
Taillow calms down.
"Remember, everyone, you don't dodge the waves until they're right up against you, got it?" Mew says.
All the Pokémon agree while the wave gets closer and grows as it goes.
"Not yet. A little closer," Mew says.
The wave gets closer and closer until….
Mew then opens her eyes, "Now!"
Mew, Pikachu, Eevee, and Taillow retreat, and the wave barely misses them.
"That was close, huh," Mew says.
Then asks, "Everyone alright?"
The Pokémon answer that they're okay.
"That's good. This is different, huh?" Mew says, "I know it's kinda weird, guys, but it's gonna help us with our battling."
Max then asks, "Brock, why does Mew get all the fun?"
"Yeah, and why do we get stuck doing laundry?" May asks.
"Ah, young ones, you will soon learn that training isn't always about Pokémon," Brock says.
"That's right," Tomo says.
Shortly after, Mew and the Pokemon are back to meditating when another giant wave comes rolling in behind them.
Mew then says, "Let's go!"
Mew and some of her Pokemon run, but Treecko doesn't. Instead, he stands and takes it.
"Oh, well," Mew says.
"Looks like Treecko messed up this time," May says.
"Yeah, I think you're right. Treecko waited a little too long and that's what threw off its timing," Max says.
Treecko soon sweat drops.
"I know, it's going to take some time to get used to it," Mew says.
"Guess preparing for Pokemon battle's not gonna be as easy as you thought. But don't worry, practice makes perfect," May says.
"Actually May, Pokemon Battles and Contests aren't a piece of cake. It takes a lot of practice for your attacks to turn out right," Mew says, "In fact, maybe this will be a time for both of us to practice contest skills for the appeals and battle rounds."
Max turns to May, "You know, she's right, May. Do you feel like you're ready yet?"
"Actually, I'm glad you asked me that question," May says.
Brock soon comes in with some teacups and a tea kettle, "So, who's ready for a little tea break?"
However, May rushes past Brock, "We all know Pokémon Contests are for showing off a Pokémon's coolness and good looks, right? And, how they come out of their Pokéballs is super important to win points from the primary judges, correct? That's why I'm getting my Pokémon to practice their entrances. Are you ready to see?" And winks and giggles, "Yeah!" She then twirls around like a ballerina before bringing out her Pokéballs, "Now, on stage, Torchic, Wurmple, Aron, come on out!"
Soon, both Pokemon come out, but they begin playing.
May calls out, "Wrong! All wrong! Start with the somersault, remember? Shoot out, and spin!"
But as May goes through the routine herself, she realizes everyone was watching and chuckles sheepishly.
"As you can see, well, we're still practicing," May says.
"Okay. Yeah, practicing is great and all…" Brock says.
And Max says, "But May, you can't release more than one Pokémon at once in a Pokémon Contest."
"Ah! I didn't know that! But I'm sure I'll find use for that entrance someplace else," May sheepishly says.
And Brock says, "And I'm not sure how the judges would feel about the Coordinator dancing around like that."
May becomes stunned, "Really?"
"Yeah, after all, the Pokémon are the real stars in a Pokémon Contest," Max says.
Worried, May says, "What can I do? I've already done the choreography for the whole thing! And I even based the whole style of it on Steven's battling. My Pokémon's movements are nice and smooth."
Tomo says, "You're right! Steven's fighting style can totally be used in a Pokémon Contest! Good idea!"
Everyone soon notices something and gasps in shock.
"What's up?" May asks, confused.
"Um May?" Jen says and points to the direction they're looking
She turns her head to where the group are looking. What they see is one of the tents moving around like something was inside of it until the pegs came out and the tent started running away.
"Our tent! Let's go!" Brock cries out.
"Hurry!" May calls out.
As May shouts, everyone rushes after the tent Brock, May, Max and Mew were sharing, but the tent soon stops right after hitting a tree while something tunneling underneath escapes.
Max notices, "Look, guys! What is that?"
Mew then calls out, "Scatterbug! I choose you!"
Soon, Scatterbug comes out.
"Use String shot!" Mew calls out.
May understands, "I get it! Now, Wurmple, String Shot!"
Both String Shot lines attach to the tent thief and stop it while it is underground.
"Yeah, we got it!" Mew says.
"Good work, Wurmple!" May says.
"You too, Scatterbug!" Mew says.
"Quick, pull it!" Brock says.
"Right, then! Wurmple, pull!" Mew calls out.
"Scatterbug, pull!" Mew calls out.
Wurmple and Scatterbug try to pull the thief to the surface, but can't as the thief attempts to escape, pulling Wurmple and Scatterbug with it.
"Whoa, it's too powerful!" Brock cries out.
Wurmple and Scatterbug and soon dragged along the ground.
May cries out, "Wurmple!"
"Scatterbug!" Mew cries out.
Treecko then rushes in and grabs Wurmple and Scatterbug before trying to help it pull the thief to the surface
"Awesome!" Brock says.
"Hang onto it, you three!" May calls out.
The three of them pull for dear life as the thief keeps trying to escape.
"No good!" Tomo says.
"It's too strong!" Molly calls out.
"Let's help them!" Brock says.
Everyone grabs the string shots and tries to pull, but the thieving creature proves too strong for them and drags them along.
"Whatever it is is really strong!" Jen calls out.
"Too strong!" Mew says.
"And it sure isn't slowing down!
"But using String Shot is supposed to slow the opponent down!" Max says.
"Not when they're underground!" Mew cries out.
The mystery creature pulls the group towards the ocean. And they soon end up right in it.
Sometime later, the clothes of everyone who pulled are drying while Brock sees what happened to the onigiri.
"Well, guys, our rice balls, are now slush balls," Brock says.
"The tent is, ruined," May says.
"And we're a mess," Molly adds.
"What the heck could've done all this?" Max wonders.
"Hmm, it could be a Diglett?" Tomo says.
Brock says, "No, I'll bet it was a Krabby."
"It could've been an Aron, too," Max says.
"It could be a Grubbin," Tomo says
Brock sews up the tent as he says, "No matter what it was, if it claimed this as its own territory, it'll be back."
"Well, we have two choices. A we find what kind of Pokemon it is and catch it in the act, or B, we go somewhere else before it gives us any more trouble, "Mew says.
"I go with Plan B, the first idea is terrible," May says.
"How come?" Tomo asks.
"Uh, May, don't you want to find out what kind of Pokémon it was?" Max asks.
May chuckles sheepishly, "I guess so, yeah. But aren't you guys a little scared?"
"Well, sure, but we won't be comfortable camping here until we know exactly what it is we're up against, right, May?" Brock says.
"WHAT?!" May exclaims.
"Cool! Then it might even be a rare Pokémon, too!" Max happily says.
May worries even more about the possibility.
"Then that's that! Alright, here's the deal, today's training is being changed to Operation: Find the Mystery Pokémon!" May says.
Everyone else cheers, "Yeah!"
May sweat drops, "I just don't get it. What's so great about an operation?"
Meanwhile, up on a mountain ledge, Team Rocket had landed.
"Can someone please tell me what happened?" Jessie asks.
"You mind your own business, and you get blown away," James says.
"If anyting got blown, it's my back," Meowth says.
"Whoever did this hasn't seen the last of Team Rocket!" Jessie says.
"Woooobbuffet!" (That's the truth!) Wobbuffet agrees.
Jessie gets out Wobbuffet's Pokeball, "Back inside."
But Jessie soon spots whatever sends her and her team flying down on the beach below, burrowing through the sand.
"What is it, Jessie?" Meowth asks.
"Look! There!" Jessie says.
James and Meowth soon see the creature digging through the sand before hitting a rock and then turning right around toward the ocean.
"What is it?" James asks.
"Maybe it's dat very same someting dat crashed into us, you tink?" Meowth suggests.
Jessie is impressed, "Wow. Big things do come in small packages. I'm off!" and runs off.
"Off to where?" James asks.
"Where do you think? To sack that little spitfire and get my revenge!" Jessie says.
However, as Jessie leaps over a rock, she ends up stepping on a sleeping Loudred with her right foot before cautiously moving her foot and backing away as the Loudred wakes up, angry about being disturbed.
"Uh oh!" Jessie says, spooked.
"Jessie! Something wrong?" James asks.
The Loudred peeks up from behind the rock, causing Team Rocket to worry.
"A LOUDRED!" Meowth cries out.
The Loudred hops onto a rock and sends out a massive shout that sends Team Rocket flying.
"Talk about a rude awakening!" Jessie screams.
Later that night, some of the gang keep watch for the mystery Pokémon using a plate of food as bait to lure it out while some sleep in their tents and others decide to do some other late-night activities.
Max whispers, "I thought for sure if we use food as bait, that it'd work."
"Maybe it needs a menu change," Brock whispers.
"Come on, this isn't working, so let's go, "May says.
Mew whispers, "No way. Besides, this is great training to improve concentration."
"What training?" May whispers.
And Mew says, "It takes tons of concentration to wait in the dark at night for an enemy that could come at you from out of nowhere at any moment."
"But I'm tired already! Now I'm starting to wish I was sleeping in the tent with Molly," May says.
"Go sleep in the tent," Max says.
But May refuses, "No way!"
"Why not?" Max asks.
May locks Max in a rear naked chokehold in a panic, "I'm scared to death, that's why!"
Eevee and Pikachu soon senses something.
"What is it?" Mew asks.
"Do you hear something?" Brock asks.
"Pika." (We do.) Pikachu says.
Tightening her chokehold on Max in panic, "Oh, no!"
"Let go of me!" Max screams, being choked.
The burrowing Pokémon digs through the sand while the humans listen for it.
Mew whispers, "Listen. Can you tell which way it's coming from?"
Suddenly, Mew senses the creature right behind him, Brock, May, Max and Pikachu before it charges at and sends them flying onto the beach before coming right at them, prompting them to move while it went after the food.
"The Pokémon food!" Max calls out.
The mystery creature throws the plate away before making a u-turn right at Mew and the others.
"It's coming back!" Brock shouts.
Everyone does so, but the creature goes after May.
May cries out, "No! Stay away from me! Get away!"
Seeing what happened, Mew calls out, "Pikachu, Thunderbolt em!"
Pikachu fires the attack and lands, getting the creature's attention, but it creates a cloud of sand to mask its escape.
"Where'd it go?" Mew asks.
The sand settles before it is revealed that the creature made a tunnel to escape.
"It's gone," May says.
"It just vanished!" Brock says.
"And into that hole," Jen says.
Mew turns to Pikachu, "Pikachu, sense anything?"
Pikachu answers, shaking his head, "Pika." (Nothing.)
"What, then? What in the world is it?" Mew wonders.
The sun rises as most of the gang who stayed up on watch start to wake up to groan in tired exhaustion.
"Why does the sun have to be so bright?" Brock asks.
"That was the worst night of my whole life," Max says.
"I didn't get one single wink of sleep," May says.
Mew turns to May, "But we told you to go to sleep. We were up keeping watch."
"How was I supposed to sleep after I saw all of that?!" May cries out, "Enough of this camping stuff! I vote that we at least move to a different spot!"
"But we can't do that!" Mew says.
"Yeah, no way," Max says.
And Tomo says, "We've got to find out what that thing is now more than ever!"
"We're not completely clueless about this, remember? It did go for the Pokémon food," Brock says.
And Mew says, "And that's not all! When Pikachu's Thunderbolt forced it to send all that sand flying up in the air, I'm sure I saw something that looked like, a red horn!"
"Do you think it's a Pokémon?" May asks.
"I think it is, but it's hard to get a good look at what kind of Pokemon it is," Mew says, "But I know it's gonna come back, that's for sure! What happened before will happen once more! Professor Oak used to say that."
Pikachu and Eevee agree.
"You mean, if it's happened once, it'll happen twice?" May questions.
"Uh, it's really just part of a funny Pokémon poem he's quoting," Max says.
Mew sheepishly says, "Sorry, I kind of got it from Professor Oak's Pokemon Poetry, but they actually make good life lessons."
"Pokemon Poetry?" May questions.
Frustrated, Max pulls out a book, "It made Professor Oak's official list of the top 100 Pokémon poems!"
"Oh! Got it now. Thanks," May sheepishly says.
"So now we come up with the perfect strategy," Mew says. "We know our opponent can move in the sand. Which means, there's only one way to trap it once and for all."
Later, Forretress is shown finishing digging a pit trap.
"Thanks, Forretress," Mew says.
"Awesome," May says, impressed.
"It used Rapid Spin to dig that hole, right?" Max says.
"Right, and there's more where that came from," Brock says. He then says to his Pokemon, "Now, Forretress, go and dig over there," pointing to his right.
Forretress hops to the right and uses Rapid Spin to dig another trap.
"So, what are all these holes for?" May asks.
Mew sets some leaves down to cover one of the holes.
She then says, "These holes are gonna make perfect traps."
"You're kidding," Max and May explain.
"But, that's Team Rocket's specialty," Max says.
"Maybe so, but it actually worked, didn't it," Mew says.
"Hey, after the three years we've been falling into those holes, we should know," Brock says.
"No doubt about that!" Tomo says.
"Agree!" Jen says.
Molly nods.
Dumbfounded, Max says, "How low…"
"... can we go?" May adds.
Everyone else lowers their heads, "The shame..."
Then Mew turns to the two, "If you think that's nuts, you should hear about our friend convincing us to dress as Team Rocket and do their motto."
"I remember that one," Tomo says.
"You dressed up as them?" May asks.
"I wonder what other crazy adventures you have," Max wonders.
Later that night, some of the gang was on watch, while the others were sleeping.
Brock explains, "Okay, gang, now this is the plan; again, just like before, we've laid out some Pokémon food, but this time, we've dug all of those holes, so, when our mystery guest shows up and starts eating, we'll then put out even more food so we can ultimately lure it to the nearest hole. Check?"
"Okay!" Everyone says
Even the Pokemon agree.
Time goes by, but nothing.
Tired, May says, "It isn't coming," and yawns, "I'm sleepy."
However, she stops when someone tells her to shush.
Mew whispers, "Look, I think I see something."
However, multiple somethings come up onto the shore, covered in seaweed.
"What is that?" May asks.
"It doesn't look like the same thing we saw last night.," Max says.
"Yeah, you're right," Mew says.
"They're covered in seaweed so it's hard to tell," Jen says.
"Let's just watch this a little bit longer," Brock says.
The "seaweed men" see the plate of food, "Aha!" and soon start eating the food.
"Wow. It's going for the bait!" Tomo whispers.
'If it's eating that, then it must be a Pokémon," Max says.
"Makes sense to me," May says.
Brock then moves in and puts down the second plate, "Now, planting more Pokémon food," And backs away
The "seaweed men" finish the plate before one of them spots the second plate, prompting all of them to go towards it, only to land in a pitfall before everyone rushes in.
"Awesome! We got it!" Mew says.
A familiar voice is soon heard under the seaweed, but they're muffling.
One of them sounds like Jessie, "Don't tell me we fell into a hole."
The second sounds like James, "Ridiculous! Imagine us, falling into someone else's trap!"
And then the third voice that sounds like Meowth, "We'd navah live dat one down!"
"What?" Molly replies.
"I think they're talking," May says.
"And they sound familiar too," Jen adds.
The three 'seaweed men realize who did the deed, "What? The twerps!"
"The twerps?" Tomo questions.
Then Mew realizes, "Wait, I recognize those voices!"
Brock realizes as well, "Oh, no! I don't believe it!"
Jessie and James get up and laugh.
Jessie: (removes her seaweed)
Prepare for trouble from the depths of the earth!
James: (removes his seaweed)
And make it double for all the trouble it's worth!
But Max interrupts the motto, "And they still insist on doing their motto?"
"Pretty pathetic, isn't it?" May says.
"More like annoying," Molly adds.
Team Rocket huddles in shame, "The shame..."
"What are you three up to this time?" Mew asks.
Jessie shouts, "What are WE up to?! You have some nerve!"
"We're supposed to dig these holes, not fall into them!" James shouts.
"We got our rights!" Meowth shouts.
"Wobbu Wobbu!" (Absolutely!) Wobbuffet agrees.
Suddenly, the mystery Pokémon burrows in underneath them and sends them flying.
"Looks like Team Rocket's blasting off again!" Team Rocket cries out.
Seeing them gone, May says, "Team Rocket's always flying off in such a hurry."
"Yep," The boys agree.
"Loetta," (Every time.) Meloetta agrees.
Soon, the mystery Pokémon moves.
Ans Max notices it, "What's that?"
Everyone turns around and sees the mystery Pokémon attempting to tunnel its way up and out of the hole.
"There is it," Jen says, worried.
"It's that thing!" Mac cries out.
Soon, the mystery Pokémon tunnels toward the food.
Mew calls out, "Pikachu, Quick Attack, go!"
Pikachu darts in, reaches the stump with the plate on it, then turns right around and darts at the burrowing Pokémon, revealing it to be a Corphish.
"It's out!" May cries out.
"Oh, wow!" Mew says, surprised and remembers what happened three days ago, "That's the same Pokémon I caught when we were fishing!"
The Corphish lands on its back as Mew gets out her Pokédex.
"Dextette says, "Corphish, the Ruffian Pokémon. A Water Type. Corphish is exceptional in its ability to survive. It adapts to any environment, will drive out its inhabitants, and claim the territory for its own."
"So, all this time, it was a Corphish we were after!" Max says.
And soon, Brock realizes, "It's all making sense now! Corphish have super aggressive personalities, which is why they'll just go barreling right through anything that happens to be standing in their way! So, it was just blowing away anything that was a nuisance to it! Us, Team Rocket, even our tent!"
The Corphish gets back up, rather upset.
May sweat drops, "It's not only aggressive, but it's annoying, too."
"Yeah, but super powerful, enough power to pull all of us, even when it got caught in Wurmple's String Shot, quick enough to tunnel under the sand! I've GOTTA catch it!" Mew says.
"Corphish is a water type, Pikachu's got the advantage!" Max says.
"Yeah, I know," Mew says and calls out, "Pikachu, use Thunderbolt!"
The attack launches, but the Corphish dodges in time, allowing it to retaliate with Bubble Beam, which sends Pikachu reeling.
"Pikachu!" Mew calls out.
"Mew, that was a really harsh Bubble Beam attack!" Brock says.
The Corphish starts tunneling back into the sand.
"It's burrowing down!" May says.
"But where? Where's it going?" Mew asks.
The Corphish strikes hard from underneath the sand.
"Pikachu!" Mew calls out, "Iron Tail, now!"
Pikachu charges its tail and comes down fast, but the Corphish manages to stop it with one claw.
"Oh, no!" Mew cries out.
"No way! It stopped Pikachu's Iron Tail attack!" Max cries out.
The Corphish swings Pikachu around before tossing him into Mew's face, knocking him over.
"Mew, Pikachu!" Brock calls out.
The Corphish starts daring its opponent to get up.
Mew pets Pikachu, "Pikachu, that was some great battling. You deserve a rest."
"Pikachu. ("Thanks, buddy.") Pikachu says.
"Corphish's pincers are really strong!" Max says.
"And it even used the speed of that Iron Tail attack to send Pikachu flying! Like it knew what Pikachu was gonna do!" Brock says.
"How do you beat something like that?" May asks.
Mew gets up, "Yeah, and every time I hit it with an attack, it cuts it right off. Treecko, go!"
Treecko comes out and puts his twig in his mouth.
Max then understands, "That's it! Treecko's a grass type, so all the water attacks Corphish wants to do won't do any damage!"
"Treecko, stay right there," Mew says.
Treecko agrees and closes its eyes.
"How come?" Max asks.
"But it's gonna get blown away!" May says.
"Just you wait and see, May," Brock says.
Both Pokémon standoff as the sun starts to rise. Then the Corphish, impatient, fires a Bubble Beam.
"Heads up! Here comes Bubble Beam!" Mew calls out.
Treecko opens his eyes and right on cue, repels the attack with his tail.
"Good, Treecko!" Mew cheers.
Surprised, Max says, "It knocked down that Bubble Beam attack!"
"That training worked!" May says, surprised.
The Corphish, angrier than before, charges up a Crab Hammer and darts forward.
May cries out in fright, "Look out!"
Frightened, Max cries out, "It's coming with a Crab Hammer!"
"Quick Attack, go!" Mew calls out.
Treecko darts forward and strikes the Corphish hard.
"Now, Treecko, Pound attack!" Mew calls out.
Treecko lands a hard smack on the Corphish with his tail, knocking it out.
"Alright! Pokéball, let's go!" Mew calls out and throws her Pokeball.
The Pokéball hits, lands, warbles and wobbles before finally pinging.
Mew picks up the Pokeball, "Yeah! I caught a Corphish!"
Pikachu and Eevee happily cheer.
Mew turns to Treecko, "Way to go, Treecko. You were awesome."
"Treecko Treecko," (Thank you, Mew.) Treecko says.
The group approaches her.
"Hey, Mew, your plan to confuse Corphish was the perfect strategy!" Brock says.
"How come?" May asks.
"Cause when people lose their cool, they lose the battle," Brock says.
"Oh I get it," May says.
Mew then tosses her Pokeball, "Hey, Corphish, come on out."
Corphish comes out.
Mew extends her hand, "Corphish, from here on out, your part of our team. Put 'er there!"
Corphish shakes Mew's hand, only to shake it faster and faster before throwing Mew over its head to the shock of everyone.
Mew sits up and laughs, "Wow! What a claw!"
Everyone begins laughing as well.
With Mew's team of Pokémon having grown by one, and will continue training on the island to help increase her skills as a trainer. With more days training on the island, Mew and her friends will have more adventures along the way.
