Episode 28: A Three Team Scheme!
One day, Mew and the others are training as Brock toots his whistle.
Mew, Max, Tomo, and Jen count as they run, "One, two! And one, two!"
The Pokemon does the same. Molly however is behind due to her size and age.
Exhausted, May calls out, "Wait!"
Brock soon comes to a stop when he spots something ahead.
"Okay, guys, hold up!" Brock says.
Everyone comes to a stop.
"What's up Brock?" Mew asks.
Brock points a head, "Someone's up there!"
Everyone looks and sees someone climbing up the rock wall.
'Hey, you're right," May says.
"That seems kinda weird," Tomo says.
"I wonder who it is," Jen says.
"And why are they up there like that?" May wonders.
Up on the rockface, the person climbing up the rock wall is none other than Professor Birch, who investigating a nest.
"My very first peek inside a Wingull's nest," Professor Birch says.
The resident Wingull soon returns and starts pecking at Professor Birch
Prof. Birch cries out, "No, no! Stop that! Ouch!"
The professor is soon sent plummeting, but his fall is broken by a sleeping Loudred.
"Well, that hurt," Prof. Birch says.
The Loudred soon wakes up, rather angry, before blasting the Professor away with a powerful Screech and then digging underground.
"Wow. Wild Pokemon are a lively lot," Prof. Birch says.
Soon, he hears Mew's voice, "Professor Birch?"
Prof. Birch looks up and sees Mew and the rest of the group.
"Well, look who it is!" Prof. Birch says.
Soon, Mew and the others are catching up with the professor.
"It has been a long time, hasn't it?" Prof. Birch says, "Indeed. I'm glad to see that Brock managed to join up with you as well."
"Yeah, thanks for all your help, Professor," Brock says.
"So, how come you're here on Dewford Island anyway?" Mew asks.
"Well, I just had to see the wonderful Pokémon here for myself," Prof. Birch says and looks to the left, "Now, look up there."
Everyone looks up to the left and find several nests.
"The Wingull here like to build there nests on cliffs like these," Prof. Birch says.
"But, don't you think climbing up there is a teeny bit dangerous?" May asks.
Max comes up to May, "Come on, May, what are you talking about? This is exactly the kind of extreme Pokémon fieldwork that Professor Birch is totally famous for! You know, moving forward and never backing off from any danger the way a great Pokémon researcher is supposed to!"
"Oh. Got it," May says.
"Thanks, Max, your praise is most appreciated," Prof. Birch says, "So tell me, Ash, what are you all doing here? I would've thought you'd be at least somewhere near Slateport City by this time."
"Well, the rest of the group and I decided to hang out here to do some training after I won my second badge," Mew says.
Meanwhile, Team Rocket watches nearby.
"Hey, who's that?" Jessie asks.
"I believe he's a Pokemon researcher by the name of Birch," James says.
"Hey, I know! Him being a researcher, I betcha he could lead us to all kinds of choice Pokémon," Meowth says.
Jessie and James happily say, "Sweet."
Down below them, Mew and the others continue to talk with the professor
"I understand. So, Mew, you're busy training, and you and May have decided to focus on Pokémon Contests. Is that right?"
"Right!" May says.
Mew then says, "I guess there's no fooling you on who I really am, huh."
"Yeah. I have a feeling that Ashley is really an alias so you won't get hustled by anyone knowing who you," Prof. Birch says.
"So, Professor, what are you doing next?" Molly asks.
"I think I'll be staying in this area and studying a bit more," Prof. Birch says.
"Hey, do you mind if we hang out with you?" Mew asks.
"Not at all!" Prof. Birch says.
"Then today for training we're joining the professor, out in the field!" Mew says.
"Alright!" Max and Tomo cheer..
"I'm ready!" May and Jen cheer.
Brock suddenly blows his whistle, "Are you forgetting the rigorous training schedule that we already have planned out for today?"
"We'll do it tomorrow, Brock," Mew says.
"That's the way! It's good to change your training around from time to time," Prof. Birch says.
As the professor chuckles, everyone else follows him while Brock is left devastated that his schedule was ruined.
"I worked hard on that schedule," Brock says.
Meanwhile, a red aircraft flies over to the island and lands on the ground of Dewford Island. The hatch opens and people come out. Turns out, the aircraft belongs to Team Magma.
Meanwhile, Mew and the others follow Prof. Birch to a cave.
"You know, this cave just may provide us with some wild Golbat," Prof. Birch says.
"Wow! Let's hurry then!" Max says.
The group goes inside.
"This cave's a little different from the others," Mew says.
"I hope those Golbat come out soon," Max says.
"We may have to go deeper to find some though," Brock says.
Jen soon stops to notice something ahead, "That's weird. Look at that. We're already at a dead end."
What lay ahead of the group is a door.
"And, what's a door doing inside of a cave?" May wonders.
"Maybe it's someone's house?" Molly suggests.
Max approaches the door and knocks, "Hello?"
Max then turns the doorknob and discovers the door was unlocked.
"It's unlocked," Max says.
Tomo opens the door, "Anybody here?"
What they find is what could be the room of any small child.
'I wonder what this room is for," Mew wonders.
"Looks like this could be the room of a child," Molly says.
"Look at that computer," May says.
"And books about Pokémon," Max says.
"Cool," Tomo says.
Max picks a book and reads the title, "'Great Pokémon Battle Strategies'."
"I've never even heard of that one," Jen says.
"Hands off!" Someone shouts.
Everyone looks back and sees a small boy and a Nincada. A boy has a bluish green shirt with a white collar, beige pants, and black and red shoes.
Nincada is a small, whitish, insectoid Pokémon. It has a pointed snout, a thin stripe that dips in a V-shaped pattern between its eyes, and two whisker-like antennae on its face. Its eyes are black with green iris-like rings inside. As it is virtually blind, it uses its antennae to sense its surroundings. On its back is a pair of small, green wings. Its hind legs are white, but the forelegs are brown and have sharp claws.
"Who said you could enter my secret base?" The boy asks.
"That's a Nincada!" Max says.
"Secret base?" Max asks.
"Sorry. I guess we didn't realize where we were," Mew apologizes.
But the boy yells, "Get out! Get out!"
"Okay. We said we're sorry," Tomo says.
"We didn't mean to trespass," Brock says.
"Right, we were just…" Prof. Birch says.
The boy cries out, "Nincada, use Fury Swipes!"
The Nincada pounces towards everyone, but is suddenly grabbed. The group becomes surprised to see that Mew has grabbed Nincada by the leg.
Mew passes the Nincada to the boy and says, "There's no need for you to get violent with us. We're sorry that we trespassed, but don't get freaked out over it."
Then the group walks out.
Mew says, again, sorry about that.
Once everyone is out, Mew closes the door. The boy and his Nincada are surprised by Mew's action. The group make their way out of the cave, and once out of the cave, Team Rocket comes out of hiding.
"Well, well. Hear that?" James asks.
"Sure did. We stumbled upon da twoip patrol stumblin' upon somethin' good," Meowth sats,
"So, let's take a look," Jessie says.
Everyone is soon out of the cave.
"What's with that kid?" Tomo asks.
'No idea," Jen says.
"Talk about a temper," May says.
"You can't blame him. Guess we shouldn't have gone in," Brock says.
Prof. Birch says, "You know, he just might be a Pokémon trainer, as well. So, shall we head to the next cave?"
"Works for me," Mew says.
Meanwhile, the boy closes the door to his base after checking to see they're gone.
"What an unusual girl," The boy says.
Soon, there's another knock.
The boy swings the door open, "I told you guys…"
However, no one was at the door.
"That's weird," The boy says before walking back into the room, "Nobody's here. Oh, yeah. Nincada."
But as the boy turns and walks away, Team Rocket appears in the doorway.
"Hi!" Jessie says.
"Who are you?" The boy asks.
Jessie and James get out their Pokeballs, "We have a surprise."
"You've got company!" Team Rocket calls out.
The boy runs out screaming for help.
'Well, that was rude," Jessie says.
"I now declare this room the secret base of Team Rocket!" James says.
In the hideout, it shows Meowth sitting on a defeated Nincada.
"Declare dis, too!" Meowth says.
Meanwhile, a blue submarine comes to the surface, revealed to be Team Aqua's submarine. One of them has long pink hair, and she and her group put on their scuba gear and dive into the water.
Meanwhile, Team Rocket is revealed to have strung up Nincada in silk, courtesy of Cascoon.
Jessie laughs, "Okay, Nincada, from now on, you're going to catch anyone who dares cross the threshold into our secret base, kay? As for you, Silcoon, great work. You're such a great Pokémon," and laughs.
As Jessie twirls around with her Cascoon, Meowth and James act worried.
Meowth quietly says, "I don't wanna spoil da party, but ain't it a Cascoon and not a Silcoon?"
"I guess we'll find out, when it evolves. It did seem different to me," James says.
As James finishes his sentence, Giovanni comes on the computer screen
"What's different?" Giovanni questions.
James and Meowth scream and fall over when they see their boss on screen.
"Giovanni, sir!" Jessie says.
"Lovely to see you again!" The boys happily said.
"Yes, well, you better have a good reason for disturbing me this time," Giovanni says.
"Well um, not exactly," Jessie says.
"We build ourselves a secret base," James says.
"And custom design it specifically so we can gather information on the Hoenn Region," Meowth says.
"Giovanni is unamused, "It looks to me like some kids' room."
"Well, um, okay," Jessie says.
"We'll remodel it, immediately," James says.
"And make it, not only da foist Team Rocket branch in da Hoenn region, but da best branch for new recruits in da woild!" Meowth says.
"That's fine, report back to me when the base is complete," Giovanni says, and the feed cuts.
Team Rocket shrugs in relief.
"I need a hug," James says.
'But if we can make this happen…" Jessie says.
"Tink of it!" Meowth says.
And Team Rocket happily says, "We'll be promoted! We'll be the bigwigs! You bet!"
Meanwhile, our heroes are exiting a cave.
"I never seen so many Golbat in one place before!" Max says.
"Yeah, pretty cool. Guess what? During the daylight hours, they'll sit still like that forever!" Prof. Birch says.
Then says, "and it looks like you made a new friend as well."
"Yeah," Max says and looks to see his new Nincada friend walking behind him.
May soon spots something to her right, "Hey."
"What's up?" Mew asks.
What they find is the boy from earlier.
"Isn't that the kid from the cave?" May asks.
Mew walks to the boy, "Hey! Remember us? Sorry about barging into your room. I'm Ashley from Pallet Town.
"My name's, Keanu," The boy says.
"Nice to meet you, I'm Tomo," Tomo says.
"I'm Brock," Brock says.
"I'm Jen," Jen says.
"And I'm Molly," Molly says.
"I'm May," May says.
"I'm Max," Max says.
"I'm Professor Birch," Prof. Birch says.
Max then asks, "Hey, where's your Nincada?"
"It's uh, you see…" Keanu says, and bursts into tears.
Meanwhile, Nincada is busy digging at the cave wall, trying to extend the room, while Team Rocket keeps it on a silk leash, though it gets tired quickly.
"Oh, no, no, no. No resting. Dig. I want this place to look like a proper hideout for criminals like us, so there's no time to waste!" Jessie says.
Nincada continues to dig while James and Meowth help clean up the place, when suddenly, Team Magma busts in.
"This is it?" The Magma member says.
"Yes,' the Magma Grunt says.
"Well, then, our prime target's located just up ahead," the Magma group leader says.
Semi-worried, Jessie asks, "Don't we, know them?"
"I think so," James says.
They soon remember just who they are.
"Hey, it's dat gang of tugs dat we met last month,' Meowth says.
Jessie shouts at them, "Get this! You are not welcome here!"
"And who might you be?" The Magma leader question.
Team Rocket begins to perform their motto.
Jessie:
Prepare for trouble, you'll know soon enough.
James:
And make it double, it's going to get tough!
As James speaks, all three Magma members send out their Pokéballs, and from each of them, a Mightyena comes out, interrupting Jessie's part in the motto before they go on the attack and force Team Rocket out.
"We'll let ourselves out!" Team Rocket cries out as they run away.
Once they're gone, the Grunt Leader says, "Now, let us begin."
"Yes," the Magma Grunts answer.
Soon, a drill is brought into the room and begins bursting through the wall with ease.
The Leader says, "Proceed!"
"Yes, Homura, sir!" Magma Grunts sat.
Meanwhile, Keanu prepares to explain what happened.
"You see, I haven't been able to win a single Pokémon battle so far," Keanu says.
Most of the group were surprised.
"Really? Not one?" Max asks.
Keanu just looks at them angrily.
"Sorry," Max says.
"I love Pokémon, but, I hate battling," Keanu says.
"Because you lose?" Brock asks.
Keanu nods.
"I agree, it's not fun when you lose," Max says.
'Yeah, I know. Losing battles can be a really big bummer," Mew says.
Keanu says, "And now, it's gotten to the point, where I'm a real let-down to my Nincada. You know? So I built that secret base so we could train."
"Really? You built that base?" Max asks.
"I had Nincada dig it out for me," Keanu says, "That base, it was our special place, where no one would be able to bother us."
Suddenly, May shouts, "THAT'S ENOUGH!"
Keanu looks up before she gets up in his face
She then lectures him, "Look, how are you supposed to battle without an opponent?! Once you catch a Pokémon, you make friends and battle with them! You better snap yourself out of this little world of yours, get it?!"
"Now May, calm down," Mew says.
Max sweat drops as well, "Yeah, May. I mean, you're not really in any position to lecture on battling."
May stumbles, knowing that her brother was right.
"But guys, it's true," May says.
Then Mew says, "Hey, Keanu. If you like, I'll help you with your training."
"Yeah?" Keanu says.
"But the first thing to do is to get back your Nincada," Mew says.
Pikachu and Eevee agree.
"You'd do that for me?" Keanu asks, surprised.
He then smiles, "Gee, thanks, Ashley!"
Meanwhile, Magma and their drill finally reached a hidden cavern, where they found some sort of shrine. At the command of Homura, the drill launches missiles that embed into the roof of the cavern before turning into spotlights.
"And so, I find it at last. The Cave of Origin!" The Grunt Leader says, "All hands, check to see that preparations for entrance are in order!"
"Yes!" The Grunt Group says.
While Team Magma investigates, Team Rocket watches nearby.
"Dat old building is really creepin' me out," Meowth says.
"I'm registering a ten on my creep meter as well. Let's go, please," James says.
But Jessie says, "Get a hold of yourself. Don't you know the scarier the scene, the richer the reward?'
"And da reward is what dose goons are here ta grab," Meowth says.
"We stay one step ahead of those crooks, get whatever they're going for first and give it to Giovanni," Jessie says.
'Ah, the one-step-ahead plan," James says.
"Woooobbuffet! ("Perfection!") Wobbuffet says.
Team Magma soon lowers down onto the shrine.
The Magma leader says, "I see," Then calls out to the group, "All hands, deploy in groups of two, and report back to me when you detect a response from G!"
"Yes, sir!" His troops respond.
Meanwhile, Jessie is having her Cascoon spin a bunch of silk.
"Dear Silcoon, that's the way. Keep that thread coming," Jessie says.
Soon, Cascoon's thread stops.
"And now, we'll use Silcoon's thread to glide to the bottom!" Jessie says.
"Ya tink we should just let her keep yappin?" Meowth asks.
"I do,' James says.
Meanwhile, the others find Keanu's base destroyed.
"My beautiful secret base!" Keanu says, shocked.
"This is terrible!" Brock says.
"It's awful!" Molly says.
"The place looks like it's been hit by a bulldozer," Yomo says.
"Who could've done all of this?" May asks.
Keanu grows worried, "Oh, no! Nincada! Where's Nincada?"
Prof. Birch soon notices, "Look at that giant hole in the wall! I'm certain THAT will lead us to some answers."
"Yeah, let's get going!" Mew says.
Pikachu and Eevee agree.
Back at the shrine, Team Magma was searching for G.
Magma grunt says, "This is flame two from inside level four. G detection, negative."
"Right, this is flame four from inside level two. G detection, negative. We'll continue searching," The second Grunt says.
And another Grunt says, "This is flame three from sub-level two. G detection, negative. But our sonar has detected several moving objects underwater and approaching from the outside.
"Ten-four," the Grunt leader says.
Meanwhile, Team Rocket was standing outside the shrine, amazed at what they see.
"The closer we get, the more impressive it is," James says.
"Now, you're going to assist us with our treasure hunt, Nincada," Jessie says.
"Yeah, so give it da woiks," Meowth says.
Meanwhile, Mew and the others arrive.
"Check out that building!" Tomo says.
"It's humongous!" Molly says.
"Looks more than just a building, Tomo," Prof. Birch says.
"Yeah. It looks almost like a temple of some kind," Mew says.
Soon, from the water, Team Aqua emerges. However, Team Magma was lying in wait.
The Magma Grunt says, "Mightyena. Shadow Ball!"
Mighyena fires the attack.
The Pink haired aqua girl says, "Hydro Pump."
From the water, a Carvanha surfaces and fires, causing an explosion, catching everyone's attention.
"Huh?" Team Rocket reacts.
Mew and the others are shocked to hear and see what's going on.
The Aqua commander says, "Well, if it isn't Team Magma. What a surprise."
"That's right. Nice to see you, too, Team Aqua," the Magma commander says.
"The Aqua Commander says, "We'll be handling this from here, so you and your team can move on to other matters. We'd prefer to avoid any unnecessary fighting and just complete our assignment. Now, go, team!"
"Right!" Aqua Grunts calls out
The grunts run in while Homura and Shelly stand off.
The Aqua Woman says, "Field commander Homura, I would judge by your presence here that Team Magma is more than just a little curious about these ruins."
"Well, tactical commander Shelly, I'm not sure what you're talking about. We were just here exploring this old cave," Homura says.
"Really? In that case, perhaps I can show you an easy shortcut out," Shelly says.
"That won't be necessary,' Homura says.
As the two talk, Mew and her friends watch and listen.
"Team Aqua," Mew says.
"And Team Magma," Molly says.
"Well, it sounds like both Aqua and Magma might know each other," May says.
"I've heard of both teams before," Professor Birch says, "They use their Pokemon to create all kinds of trouble. Why are they interested in these old ruins?"
Brock turns to Keanu, "Keanu, are either of them the ones who took your Nincada?"
"No, the other guys had a Meowth," Keanu answers.
"Meowth?" Everyone says, shocked.
Mew realizes, "Oh no."
"That means Team Rocket's here," Tomo says.
Homura contacts his comrades, "Flame one here, Team Aqua has infiltrated. But carry out orders."
"Yes, Homura!" The Magma grunt says.
Homura then says to Shelly, "Look, the power we seek is here. And the power that you seek is not."
Hearing it, Jessie asks, "Power they seek?"
"Is he talking about the treasure?" James asks.
"Maybe it's a riddle,' Meowth says.
Shelly then says, "And I could say the same thing to you. Regardless of which of our searches is successful, we'll be able to control the power when we find it."
"Okay, are you trying to tell me you brought the Crimson Orb?" Homura says.
"Well, now, what if I have?" Shelly says.
"We'll see," Homura says.
Both Carvanha and Mightyena stare each other down.
But then Shelly says, "It's all wrong. A simple tactical commander should never have gotten hold of such a thing. You're not fit to handle it. The Indigo Orb. Or even the long lost Verdant Orb."
"Indigo Orb?" Jessie questions
"Crimson Orb?" James questions.
"Verdant Orb? What in da woild are they talking about?" Meowth asks.
"What in the world are they talking about?" Brock wonders.
Then Shelly says, "You seek the power of land. But don't you know that the power of the sea controls all things? You'll never be able to win that way.
Homura then says, "You simply don't understand the power of land."
Mew mutters to herself, "The Power of Land and Sea."
Suddenly, the Grunt member contacts Homura, "This is flame two, search of all levels complete. G was not detected anywhere!'
"Roger that, all units, pull out immediately," Homura says.
'Yes, sir!" The Magma Grunts say.
"Power of the sea?" Jessie questions.
"Power of land?" James questions.
"Forget about deities, I'd say dey're both just power-hungry," Meowth says.
"Well, Homura, it looks like your team was mistaken this time," Shelly says.
But then the Aqua grunt contacts her, "Stream A here. No K signals detected in the ruins. It appears this is not the Cave of Origin, but a shrine of worship built by an ancient civilization."
"Understood. Now, disperse,' shelly says.
"Roger," Aqua Grunt says.
Homura says, "So this isn't the Cave of Origin after all."
"Yes, it would appear that way," Shelly says.
"Leave it to those ancient people to ruin all of our plans,' Homura says.
"Cave of Origin?" Mew wonders.
"What are they up to?" Jen wonders.
Next thing they know, several Magma grunts appear on the scene with Pokéballs in hand, but several Aqua grunts arrive to even the odds.
"I think I smell a battle," James says.
But then, Shelly says, "Carvanha, return."
"Return, Mightyena," Homura says.
Both Pokemon are recalled.
Shelly calls out to her troops, "Pull out, now!"
"Roger!" Aqua Grunt says and dive in.
"Troops, let's get out!" Homura says.
"Yes, sir!" Magma Grunt says.
Soon, both teams make their escape.
"Wow, I wonder where the Cave of Origin they're looking for is anyway?" Tomo asks.
"Me, too," May says.
Suddenly, Team Rocket cheers, 'Hip, hip, hooray!"
"Now that they're gone, let's get busy!" Jessie says.
"He who laughs last sticks around for the prize!" James says.
"Let's grab any treasure in dere and say our goodbyes!" Meowth says.
And Wobbuffet says, "Woooobbu!' (And how!)
"And that means you too, Nincada. Ya got that?" Jessie says.
Nincada just sweat drops.
Keanu suddenly calls out, "Nincada!
Team Rocket gasps in shock when they see Mew and the others.
"Keanu told us you be here!" Mew says.
"Give back that Nincada!"" Brock says.
"Go, Silcoon, String Shot!" May says.
Silcoon fires a silk line at a pillar.
"Hey! Watch where you shoot!" Jessie shouts.
"Stay away! We're in the middle of something here!" James shouts.
Mew uses a sheet to turn the silk line into a zipline, "Let's go, Keanu!"
"But, Ashley, I'm afraid,' Keanu says.
"Look, Nincada's your friend, so you can't just leave it with them!" Mew says, and goes down the zipline.
"You know, she's right!" Brock says.
"Keanu, go help Nincada!" Max says.
"It'll be alright. I know you can do it, for the friendship you and Nincada share!" May says.
Professor Birch nods in agreement, finally giving Keanu the chance to go for it.
"Now give it back!" Mew demands.
Pikachu and Eevee agree.
"That's no way to speak to your elders, little lady!" Meowth says.
"Now say you're sorry," Hessie says.
"And then hand over Pikachu and Eevee," James says.
Suddenly, Keanu came sliding in before landing on Team Rocket, forcing them to let go of Nincada.
"Nincada!" Keanu calls out.
Mew calls out, "Pikachu, use Iron Tail to cut Nincada's thread, now!"
Pikachu jumps and manages to do so
"Alright!" Mew cheers.
Nincada lands on its feet.
"Are you okay, Nincada?" Keanu asks.
Nincada confirms as some of the others slide down.
"Keanu, now it's your turn!" Mew says.
Keanu then says, "Okay, Nincada, Hidden Power attack!"
Nincada fires an incredible blast
Nincada fires the attack and sends Team Rocket flying out of the cave to notice.
"Looks like Team Rocket's blasting off again!" Team Rocket cries out.
Later, everyone is out of the cave.
"You did it, Keanu," Mew says.
"You got Nincada back," Max says.
Prof. Birch adds, "And you handled that battle beautifully."
"See? You can do it," May says.
"And Nincada's Hidden Power attack was great," Brock says.
"Thank you, that's the attack Nincada and I kept using so we could build our secret base," Keanu says.
"Let's see now," Mew says and brings out her Pokedex.
Dextette says, "Nincada, the Trainee Pokemon. A Bug and Ground Type. Nincada lives most of its life inside the earth and uses its sharp claws to tap into tree roots, extracting nutrients and moisture.
"That's cool," Brock says.
"But all that work you did on your secret base is gone now that it's destroyed," Max says.
"Yeah, that's right," Mew says.
"Who cares? Nincada and I will build another one,' Keanus says.
"Nincada!" (A better one!) Nincada says.
"That's the spirit!" Prof. Birch says.
"Then after we train, and when we get a lot stronger, will you battle me, Ashley? Huh? Please?" Keanu says.
"Sure, that'd be great," Mew says.
Keanu shakes Mew's hand, "Gee, thanks, Ashley."
May sighs, "The charming innocence of a new trainer."
Although we're left wondering what both Team Aqua and Team Magma were looking for, be it either mysterious Crimson Orb, or Indigo Orb, or even this lost Verdant Orb, Mew and the others know full well they must continue their training. And train they will.
