Episode 31: A Meditite Fight!
Mew and her Pokemon are standing on the ledge overlooking the ocean, waiting for the next wave to crash. The next big wave starts closing in.
"Here it comes," Mew says.
"Pika." (Wait for it.) Pikachu says.
The wave gets even closer and bigger.
"Let's go!" Mew says.
Mew and her Pokémon make a dash for it, avoiding the wave as it crashes down, prompting them to celebrate.
"We did it! Way to go!" Mew cheers.
"It's really working! Their training's paying off!" Max says.
"They knew just where the waves were, and then moved exactly when they had to," May says.
"Yeah. They're doing great," Molly says.
Just then, Brock calls out, "Hey, guys! Breakfast is ready!"
Mew and the others start off another day of training with one of Brock's fantastic breakfast. The group is about to eat until…
"Cowabunga!" A scream appears.
Everyone turns and sees a girl surfing towards them.
'Hey, who's that?" Tomo asks.
The girl calls out, "Watch yourselves, I'm coming in for a landing!"
The girl leaps off her board and lands on her feet. It's revealed to be a girl with fair skin, long blue hair, and wearing a magenta two piece swimsuit.
She then points to Mew, "Hey, you, buddy!"
"What? Who, me?" Mew asks.
And Brock says, "Excuse me, but we're in the middle of breakfast now."
"Save your breath. My name is…" The girl says.
But before the stranger can say her name, a wave crashes down on her, soaking her.
She quickly shakes herself dry, "I'm Shauna! Shauna the Battle Girl!"
"Battle Girl?" Mew says, confused.
Jen asks, "What's with that?"
"Beats me," Tomo says.
The girl Shauna asks, "You're Ashley, right?"
"Uh, yeah," Mew says.
"And I happen to be Brawly's top apprentice and loving girlfriend," Shauna answers.
Confused, Mew asks, "You're Brawly's apprentice?"
"And his, girlfriend, too?" May adds, surprised.
"She looks awfully young to be Brawly's top apprentice," Brock says.
Shauna then says, "Ashley, I want you to battle with me, now!"
"Now?" Mew asks.
"Yes! Cause, there's no time like the present!" Shauna says, presenting the Pokeball.
"Well I do like to have a battle with you, but I like to enjoy having breakfast first if you don't mind," Mew says.
Suddenly, Shauna's stomach starts growling, causing her to collapse in embarrassment.
"Wow! I'm really hungry!" Shauna says.
Then Brock says, "Tell you what. How about battling after breakfast? Shauna, you're welcome to join us."
"Yeah. We have plenty if you want to join," Mew says.
"Really? I'd love to!" Shauna happily says and eagerly takes a seat, "Come on! Let's dig in already!"
Everyone just sweat drops.
"She's kind of a strange bird," May says.
"Uh, kinda?" Max replies.
Pikachu soon senses something before looking behind him to find storm clouds coming.
Meanwhile, under the sea, Team Rocket spies from their Magikarp sub while one of their stomachs growls.
"You know, my stomach's on empty. And dose twerps are always chowing down on some yummy-looking grub," Meowth says.
Soon, a smell hits Meowth
"It's like I can almost smell all dose eats. Wait, I do smell something," Meowth says.
He then spots Jessie and James eating something, "Hey, wait! So what's da big idea cooking up some chow and eating witout even inviting me?!"
"Meowth, don't be so dramatic. Of course we saved you some," Jessie says.
"Right. Even drama queens need a complete breakfast," James says.
"More importantly, got a plan?" Jessie asks.
"Yep, it's a doozy of a design. We're going to da bay and digging some holes," Meowth says.
James asks, "But what if we're spotted by the goody-good patrol in mid-shovel?"
"Ah, dose dopes don't notice nothing while dey're eating. What do you tink?" Meowth says.
"Well, Meowth, you just might be on to something," Jessie says.
"Dat's right! And I propose we go even foither and trow in a few extra holes!" Meowth says.
James smiles, "Why not? The holier the better is what I always say!"
"Amen to that!" Jessie says.
"Woooobbuffet!" (Let's do it!) Wobbuffet says.
Meanwhile, Shauna and Mew finished their breakfast.
"That was awesome!" Mew and Shauna say.
The two look at each other in surprise.
"Glad you like it," Mew says.
"Yeah," Shauna says.
Max says, "Hey guys, you know, they kinda remind me of each other."
"Almost mirror images," May says.
Then Shauna says, "But don't copy me just cause we're rivals!"
"Who said we're rivals?" Mew questions.
Then Shauna says, "I happen to have heard from Brawly that you're quite the trainer. You've even earned a Badge from him."
"You did? He said that?" Mew asks, a little surprised.
"Suggesting you're better than me!" Shauna says.
"I'm not suggesting anything. It's not a problem," Mew says.
Shauna then stands up, "Yes, it is! I can't let him think another trainer is better than his girlfriend, get it?! When I'm done with you, he'll see that I'm the greatest trainer on earth! Now you see why I'm challenging you."
"Fine. Now that we're done eating, let's get going!" Mew says.
Shauna jumps back a bit, "Good, here I come!"
"Alright," Mew says.
But then Brock says, "Uh, excuse me. Sorry, I hate to break up a good pre-battle banter, but Ashley, isn't today your turn to wash the dishes?"
"Oh that right. Thanks for reminding me, Brock," Mew says.
Shauna sweatdrops, "What?!"
Then Brock says, "Maybe you could help him, Shauna. At least it'll get the job done quicker.
The rest of the group stifle their laughter.
Later, Mew is doing her chore, and Shauna decides to pitch in.
"You don't have to help me, Shauna. I don't mind doing it," Mew says.
But Shauna says, "I only am so we can battle, so scrub! Scrub! Scrub! Go! Go! Go!"
And Shauna starts scrubbing the dishes as fast and as hard as she can. Mew giggles and decides to follow along. while May and Max watch on while carrying some of the laundry.
"Just like two peas in a pod, huh?" May says.
"Yeah, two competitive peas, if you ask me," Max says.
"But Shuana seems a bit more fiery than Mew is," Molly says.
Pikachu and Eevee agree.
Meanwhile, Team Rocket was busy digging another hole, having dug several more around them.
"My, my. Talk about industrious. Look at all the holes we've dug," Jessie says.
"And with these odds, compared with their numbers, they've got to fall into at least five of them!" James adds.
"And if they don't, den, I guess we're de idiots," Meiwth says and laughs until he falls into the finished hole.
"You deserved that, you know!" Jessie and James shout.
Meanwhile, Brock was busy collecting firewood when he felt something before looking out at some far off clouds.
"Something seems very unusual here," Brock says.
Tomo walks over, "I think you're right. Look over there."
Tomo points and shows some Shroomish running for cover, along with some Seedot, and Zigzagoon.
"Now what's with them?" Brock asks.
They look and soon see the storm clouds coming in.
Later, Ashley and Shauna are FINALLY ready to battle.
Shauna says, "Come on, Ashley! Let's get this show on the road! Time to show off my real power!"
"Okay Shauna, I'm ready when you are," Mew says.
Team Rocket soon peeks out and notices what's about to happen.
"Look. A battle is about to start," James says.
"But, little do the twerps know that this battlefield is loaded…" James says.
"Wit more holes den a wheel of swiss cheese!" Meowth says.
"Pika Pika?" (Was that Team Rocket?) Piakchu asks.
Eevee says, "Eevee Eevee," (Sounds like them.)
"I have to agree," Mew says.
Mew then notices something out at sea, "And I got a strange feeling out at sea."
Pikachu and Eevee agree.
"Anyway, ready to battle?" Mew asks.
The Pokemon agree.
"Seemed like Pikachu and Eevee looking at something," Max says.
"Well, here we go, guys," May says.
Shauna then calls out, "I choose you, Meditite!"
Meditie comes out. Meditite is a humanoid, bipedal Pokémon that resembles a person meditating. It usually sits in a yoga position, with knees bent and feet together with its hands resting on its knees. Its lower body is blue, with white on the wrists, feet, and lower body. Its onion-shaped head is also white with large eyes and pink ovals on its cheeks. It has round, swirled ears on the sides of its head.
May brings out her Pokedex, 'What's that Pokemon?"
Dextette says, "Meditite, the Meditate Pokemon. A Fighting and Psychic Type. Meditite meditates in order to build up its mental energy. It is said that it eats only one berry a day.
"Okay, keep your guard up, Pikachu," Mew says.
"Pika." (Gotcha.) Pikachu says.
Shauna calls out, "Meditite, Focus Punch, go!"
Meditie throws the attack
"Quick, go left, Pikachu!" Mew calls out.
Pikachu does so
Shauna then calls out, "Hi Jump Kick, now!"
Meditite closes in with its knee ready to strike.
"Pikachu, move right!" Mew calls out.
Pikachu does so.
Still hiding, Jessie asks, "How is it possible that they keep missing all of those beautiful holes we dug?!"
"Something's up," Meowth says.
"The odds of them missing every single hole are far greater than getting struck by lightning, which is a 1 in 15,300 chance in itself!" James asks.
Jessie shouts, "What do you think you're doing?! Fall in the hole!"
Both Pokémon continue to throw and dodge attacks, respectively.
"Okay, Meditite, aim carefully!" Shauna calls out
"Keep dodging, Pikachu!" Mew calls out.
Brock soon understands, "I get it, Mew keeps dodging those Hi Jump Kicks until he finds the perfect opportunity. All of Mew's hard training is really beginning to pay off."
"Yeah," May says.
And Brock says, "In contrast, Shauna's strategy is to try to muscle her way to victory using sheer force and brute strength."
"Yeah. Look at her go," Max says.
"Now focus, Meditite! Use Hi Jump Kick!" Shauna calls out.
Meditite closes in with another knee ready to strike.
"Quick Attack, Pikachu!" Mew calls out.
Pikachu darts in.
"Now let's finish this one head-on!" Shauna calls out.
Both Pokemon near each other, and at the last possible moment, Pikachu dodges the attack, surprising Shauna and Meditite
"What a dodge!" Shauna calls out.
"Now, Pikachu, close in with Quick Attack!" Mew calls out.
Pikachu darts in, but before the attack can land…
But someone calls out, "Hey, what are you doing?!"
Everyone stops what they're doing and the battle comes to a halt as they all look and see Brawly up on the ledge before they jump down.
Shauna happily says, "Oh, hi-ya, Brawly!"
Seeing him, Jessie asks, "Hey, isn't that the surfer dude gym leader?"
Brawly then approaches the group as Shauna calls Meditite back to the Pokeball.
"Hey, Brawly. How you doing? What's up?" Mew asks.
"Guys, they told us over at the Pokémon Center that we could find you all out here. And it's a very good thing that we did," Brawly says.
"So, what's that matter, Brawly?" May asks.
"Well, there's this mondo hurricane heading right towards the island! A small inlet like this could end up completely underwater!" Brawly says.
"I get it! That's why Pikachu and Eevee looked up at the clouds before we even had breakfast!" Brock says.
"Pikachu." (Absolutely.) Pikachu says.
"I thought I sensed something off at sea, now I know why," Mew says.
"Same with all the Pokemon running away earlier," Tomo says.
"All of them are signs that a hurricane is coming," Brock says.
"And the Pokemon sensed it coming right this way," Mew says.
"So a hurricane's coming?! What do we do?!" May asks, panicking.
"Well, the only thing we can do is get off of this inlet and find a safe place to hunker down before the hurricane hits, dudes," Brawly says.
Then Brawly notices Shauna, "Hey, Shauna, what are you doing out here anyways, huh?"
"Oh, I was just…" Shauna nervously says.
"You know. She came here to battle with Ashley. She mentioned about you being his gir…"
But Shauna covered Brock's mouth before he could finish.
"Guess we better start packing! Come on!"" Shauna panics and pulls Brock away by his jacket.
"Hey, guys? What are we going to do about this hurricane?" James asks.
"How about de old dive down to da bottom of da ocean in our Magikarp submarine trick?" Meowth says.
"You mean just run away, worrying about ourselves?" Jessie says.
Later, the hurricane has gotten closer, and the gang get caught in the rain.
"I didn't think that we'd get hit THIS fast! I'm pretty sure there's a cave up ahead, so let's move it!" Brawly says.
"Good idea," Tomo says.
Soon, Molly notices, "Look! Some Seedot!"
"They must've been left behind by the group they were part of," Mew says.
Shauna approaches and kneels down to the Seedots, "Hey, you're going to be okay. Listen, little Seedot, you want to come with us? There's a cave nearby that'll get us out of this rain."
The Seedot agree.
"Wow. Shauna can actually be a pretty nice person," May says.
Brock then spots something, "They aren't the only ones left out here! Look, some Shroomish!"
Brock approaches the Shroomish and kneels down to them, "Why don't you three come with us, too? Like Shauna said, there's a cave that'll keep us dry."
The Shroomish agree.
Meanwhile, out at sea, Team Rocket is holding onto their sub for dear life.
"Those beautiful holes we dug, there's nothing left of them but mud!" James says.
"That's the last item on my worry list!" Jessie says.
"Can we argue about dis inside?!" Meowth asks.
However, the hatch doesn't open.
"Da hatch! It's stuck and won't open!" Meowth panics.
'You're kidding, right?!"" Jessie and James panic.
Suddenly, a massive tidal wave comes in and sends Team Rocket and their sub flying.
"Anchors aweigh!" Team Rocket cries out.
Meanwhile, Mew and the others make their way towards the cave Brawly mentioned when May looks down into a nearby chasm.
May says, scared, "I'm not liking this!'"
Molly whimpers and hugs Mew, "I'm scared!"
"Don't worry Molly, everything will be okay," Mew says.
Brawly says, "Come on! This is the only way to get us to that cave!"
Then Mew says, "Maybe if we all link hands, we'll be a whole lot safer."
They all do so, save for Shauna.
"Why won't you hold Brawly's hand?" Tomo asks.
"Yeah you're his girlfriend, isn't she?" May questions.
Brawly then asks, "What? Girlfriend? What's this about?"
"Alright! I'm going to be someday, okay?!" Shauna cries out.
Everyone else was surprised to learn that Shauna was lying.
"So, does that mean you're not his top apprentice either?" Brock asks.
Shauna just lowers her head in shame.
Mew sheepishly says, "How about we focus on getting out of the rain.
"Good idea," Brawly says to Mew.
Then turns to Shauna, "Now, Shauna, take my hand, please."
"Oh... Okay," Shauna says and does so.
Everyone makes their way across the ledge, when lightning strikes a boulder, sending it down towards them.
Brawly then calls out, "Hariyama, I choose you!"
Hariyama comes out.
Brawly then calls out, "Use Arm Thrust!"
The attack manages to stop the boulders coming down, but another lightning bolt strikes a tree above them.
Brawly calls out, "Hey, watch out!"
Mew calls out, "Pikachu, Thunderbolt!"
Pikachu's attack lands, destroying the tree
"Way to go, Pikachu!" Mew says.
"Some quick thinking, little dude," Brawly says.
"Gee, Brawly, thanks a lot," Mew says, "Okay, guys, let's get going!"
Suddenly, Team Rocket comes flying in as they cry out, "Incoming!"
The sub crashes into the side of the rock wall before Team Rocket slides down and onto the path below
"It's Team Rocket," Tomo says.
"So what brings you three here?" May asks.
Meowth cries out, "You gotta have moicy on us, please, we just need some shelter from da storm!"
Team Rocket bow their heads, "Be kind!"
Everyone just stares in bafflement.
And Brawly says, "You can follow us."
Team Rocket are happy to hear it, "Thank you from the bottom of our crooked hearts!"
Sometime later, everyone is finally inside the cave as the storm gets worse.
"Looks like this is where all the forest Pokemon ended up," Max says.
"I'm sure they know that this is the best spot for taking shelter in this area when there's a storm like this. Sometimes Pokemon dudes know a lot more than human dudes. I'm sure that old hurricane will be history by tomorrow. So we should hang out here until then" Brawly says.
May soon notices Shauna sitting by herself.
She calls out, "Hey, Shauna, why don't you come and warm up by the fire?"
'Uh, no thanks. I'm fine here," Shauna answers.
"Are you sure?" Mew asks.
Shauna answers, "Yes, I'm sure!"
Brock then turns to Brawly, "So, Brawly, back to what I was saying before. How come you haven't let Shauna be your apprentice?"
Brawly then explains, "That Shauna, she's into battling more than anyone I know, and she could become a totally awesome battler, too. But, you see, she has a bit of a short fuse, if you get my meaning. Winning in a battle is totally important for sure, but connecting with your Pokemon is way more important."
"That's why you didn't make her an apprentice?" Tomo asks.
"You know how it is. Trainers have to find out that kind of stuff for themselves," Brawly says.
"Sounds true," Mew says.
Then Brawly asks, "So how do you think you're doing with your training?"
"I'm doing good. I took your advice to hear and do better," Mew says.
"Well, that's good," Brawly says.
Then turns to Shauna, "Hey, come on, Shauna. Come over here, you're gonna get sick."
"Okay," Shauna answers. She gets up and joins Brawly by the fire.
"You guys ever think about how nature is totally awesome?" Brawly asks.
Everyone thinks of it.
Brawly explains, "I guess what I'm trying to say is, we're powerless against nature's own power. Just look at those Pokemon over there, they sensed the storm coming and ran here for safety. Guess Mother Nature knows what she's doing. And there's really no point in trying to fight against the forces of nature, or even trying to stand up to them, especially if they're caused by the very Pokemon you spoke of. Cause that, little dudes, will get you nowhere. Instead, it's best to calm your mind and seek refuge from the storm."
"Like all these Pokemon did. Right, Brawly?" Brock says.
'You got it, my man,' Brawly says.
"In other words, it's best to leave mother nature alone," Mew says.
Suddenly, James says, "Wow. That's some food for thought they're all chewing on."
"Yeah, you said a Meowth-ful," Meowth agrees.
And Jessie whines, "Who cares about that? I just want warmth!"
Brawly then calls out, "Hey, you three! You know, it's a lot warmer here by the fire."
"Really? Is that an invitation?" Jessie asks with a smile.
James: Well, you certainly don't have to ask me twice!" James says.
They soon sit and warm up, "Ah, a blaze of glory."
Meowth then turns around, "Yeah, my caboose here was frozen solid as an ice cube."
He soon smiles something, "Hey, fellas, whatcha cooking?"
Meowth soon realizes his tail was on fire, and cries out in a panic, "It's me! Help! It's a tree-alarmer! Call da fire department! De army! Da coastguard!"
Mew shrugs, "Always something with those three.
"Pika Pika." (Yeah, no kidding.) Pikachu says.
"Eevee Eevee," (Some things never change.) Eevee adds.
The next morning, the storm has cleared and Max is the first to walk out to see the storm has ended.
Max laughs and says, "Hurricane's over!"
Everyone wakes up as Max shouts the news.
"Hey, where are all the Pokemon?" May asks.
"They're all gone," Molly adds.
"They went back to the woods, since the storm's over," Brawly says.
"Ha! So…" Team Rocket speaks out.
Everyone looks and sees Team Rocket blocking the exit.
"Remember us?" Meowth says.
"You know, Team Rocket?" Jessie says.
"The thieves of Pikachu and Eevee?" James adds.
"Oh no," Mew says
"Here we go again," May says.
"The Team Rocket motto," Jen adds.
And right on cue, the motto begins.
Jessie:
Prepare for trouble, our motto stays the same.
James:
And make it double cause we think you're lame!
Jessie:
To protect the world from devastation.
James:
To unite all peoples within our nation.
Jessie:
To denounce the evils of truth and love.
James:
To extend our reach to the stars above.
Jessie:
Jessie.
James:
James.
Jessie:
Team Rocket hits the road at the speed of light!
James:
Surrender now, or prepare to fight, fight, fight!
Meowth:
Dat's right!
Wobbuffet:
Woooobbuffet! (End of scene!)
And soon, Shauna says, "You can't do that, we helped you!"
"That was then! Seviper!" Jessie says and calls out her Pokeball.
Seviper comes out of the Pokeball.
James then calls out, "This is now! Cacnea!"
Cacnea comes out of the Pokeball, but starts hugging James instead.
James cries out, "No, not me! Get them!"
"Seviper, Poison Tail, now!" Jessie calls out.
"Cacnea, Pin Missile, go!" James calls out.
Both attacks are thrown and fired, respectively, at Pikachu and Eevee, but they swiftly dodges both.
"I got this," Brawly says, and calls out, "Hariyama, go!'
Hariyama comes out, and sends Team Rocket flying out of the cave with a single Force Palm.
"I suppose, we could've been a little more grateful," Jessie says.
"Have we experienced a turning point in our selfish lives?" James asks.
And Meowth shouts, "ARE YOU NUTS?!"
"Team Rocket's blasting off again!" Team Rocket cries out.
"Wobbuffet! ("Way too soon!") Wobbuffet cries out.
Jen, Tomo, Molly, May and Max call out, "Goodbye and good riddance!"
"Ah, they'll be back. Those guys never learn,' Brock says.
"Though I wish they did," Mew says.
Shauna then walks to Mew, "Hey, Ashley. Battle me just once more, okay?"
"Wow, Shauna," Brawly says.
"Please, Ashley. One more time?" Shauna asks.
"I don't know," Mew says.
But soon smiles and says, "Okay, one more time!"
In no time, both trainers are in place
Brawly says, "The battle between Ashley and Shauna will now begin! Each trainer will use one Pokemon, with no time limit. Begin!
Both trainers take a moment to calm their minds.
"Just watch, Ashley's gonna dodge her attacks easily," May says.
Shauna calls out, "Okay, Meditite, Focus Punch!"
Meditie throws the attack, but Mew and Pikachu patiently wait.
Mew then calls out, "Now, Pikachu, Quick Attack!"
Pikachu darts forward
Shauna calls out, "Use Detect!"
Meditite does so and easily dodges Pikachu
"What a dodge!" Max says.
Shauna calls out, "Go, Meditite! Meditate!"
Meditite starts meditating
"Okay, Pikachu, use Quick Attack again!" Mew calls out.
Pikachu darts forward.
Shauna calls out, "Meditite, go left!"
Meditite dodges in the ordered direction.
"That's the way, Meditite!" Shauna says.
"I can't believe it! She just…" May says, surprised.
Brock then says, "I know, her battle strategy has completely changed!"
"She's been training with that Meditite for a long time, since she was a little girl. But she was so hung up on winning, she wouldn't combine her strategies. But things change, don't they?" Brawly says.
Shauna calls out, "Meditite, Hi Jump Kick!"
Meditite leaps in.
"Dodge it now!" Mew calls out.
Pikachu dives aside.
"That's it!" Mew calls out.
In her thoughts, Shauna says, "I can feel it! I can sense Meditite's movements!"
Meditite closes in.
"Look out, Pikachu!" Max cries out.
But then Mew calls out, "Now, Pikachu, close your eyes!"
Pikachu does so and everyone looks on in shock, worry and bafflement, while Mew and Pikachu, wait for the right moment.
Mew then calls out, "Dodge to the right!"
Pikachu does so, shocking both Shauna and Meditite.
"Now, Pikachu, get ready to Thunderbolt!" Mew calls out.
Pikachu launches the attack and lands hard, knocking Meditite out in no time.
"Meditite!" Shauna cries out.
Brawly announces, "Meditite is unable to battle! Pikachu's the winner!"
"Great, Pikachu,' Mew says.
"Wow, Ashley, that was awesome!" May happily says.
"Yeah, totally awesome! Your timing, dodging your opponent's attacks while fighting back at the same time was mega colossal! And, I have to admit, your combinations were totally superior to Shauna's," Brawly says.
Shauna says to Meditite, "You're going to be okay."
Then turns to Mew, "Thank you, Ashley, so much."
Everyone looks in surprise
"I don't mind losing at all, really," Shauna says.
"Well, you were real strong, too," Mew says.
Brawly walks to Shauna and asks, "Were you able to sense Meditite's motions?"
"Yes, I was," Shauna answers, 'You're right. I did feel it. But I know I've still got a long, long way to go."
"Remember, Shauna, you're not alone. Don't forget, you've got Meditite, and you've got me, too. But I've gotta warn you, I work my apprentices very hard," Brawly says.
This has Shauna surprised with a smile, "What?! You really mean it?!"
"Wow, you're going to be Brawly's apprentice?" Brock says.
"She sure is," Brawly says.
"Congratulations, Shauna," Mew says.
"Yeah!" May and Max say.
The Pokemon also agree.
"Thank you so much, Brawly!" Shauna says.
Then get Meditite back on its feet, "Meditite, isn't it great?"
"Meditite." (It sure is.) Meditite says.
"I'm gonna work so hard!" Shauna shouts with excitement, and starts kicking rapidly, prompting some chuckles.
Having a grand time training, Mew and her friends learn another good lesson from Brawly on being one with your Pokemon. And soon, Mew and her friends will be on their way to the next part of their journey.
