Episode 32: Just One of the Geysers!
Mew and her friends continue on their last day on Dewford Island before they continue to their next destination of the Hoenn Region. As of now, Mew and the others have already finished breakfast and are searching around for a new place to train.
"I feel as though we've explored all over the island," May says.
"May's right. I'm not sure there are any more places to train left," Max says.
"Yeah. I don't really have an idea either," Mew says.
Brock soon notices, "Hey look, we're near the gym and the beach."
The gang find themselves walking past the Dewford Island Gym and the beach that is nearby.
Then Tomo notices, "Hey look, there's Brawly and Shauna!"
The group soon look at the sea to see Brawly and Hariyama, along with Shauna and Meditite, are surfing on the waves.
"Hey, let's go check it out," Mew says.
The group soon head to the beach as Brawly, Hariyama, and Shauna soon arrive on the shore.
"Hey dudes, glad to see ya," Brawly says.
"Hi guys," Shauna says.
"Hi Brawly," Mew says.
"Hi Shauna," Jen says.
"Glad to see you all again, are you all still planning on training?" Shauna says.
"We sure are," Mew says.
"But we don't know where else we can go to train," May says.
"I think we explored all over the island," Tomo says.
Soon, Brawly says, "I've got the perfect spot for you all to train. Shauna and I can join you."
"Really?" Mew asks.
Soon enough, the group arrives at another part of the island. On the outskirts of the water is a large rocky island.
"We can train over there," Brawly says.
"On that island?" May asks.
"But we don't have a boat, so how are we supposed to get there?" Max asks.
"Just watch and learn, guys," Brawly says.
Suddenly, the water lowers to reveal a rocky path towards the island. Mew and the others are amazed.
"oh my," Molly says.
"Wow!" Jen adds.
"Well, that certainly beats swimming," May says.
"Holy moly!" Max says.
"So cool," Tomo says.
"My gym has a really great practice field over there. It's a perfect spot for some training," Brawly says.
"Thanks Brawly," Mew says, and becomes eager, "I can't wait to try it out."
With a path cleared for them, Mew, her friends, Brawly, and Shauna begin walking on the path to his island gym.
Meanwhile, on the island, Team Rocket are revealed to have snuck in and have their eyes on Brawly's food storage.
"Did I die and go to refrigerated heaven?" Meowth asks, happily.
"I can cook all my favorite recipes!" James says.
"It gets better!" Jessie happily says, "We have canned goods, too! That's it, I hereby declare this island cave our secret base!"
"Finally, we found the perfect location for the first Team Rocket branch in the Hoenn region!" James says.
"You know, wit digs like dis, we could even invite da boss over for dinnah!" Meowth says.
"Of all the places that we could've wandered into today, there's nothing that could've made me happier!" Jessie says.
Team Rocket then responds, "Are we dreaming?"
As Team Rocket talks, they start imagining they're falling out of the sky.
"But, wait. Hold on," Jessie says and pulls a parachute, "Maybe this is a dream?"
Floating in on an umbrella, Meowth says, "Good ting we dreamt up dese safety devices."
Meowth feels something and looks down and sees James hanging onto his leg.
James: Then I must be in a different dream," James says.
"Yeah? Well, get outta mine!" Meowth says, sweating drops.
Soon, Meowth and James start falling before they end up going down a hole and landing gently.
"Look out below!" Jessie calls out, and quickly lands on top of her teammates.
She then looks around "Huh? Where are we?"
"Don't know," James answers.
Soon, Meowth spots something, "Look at dat!"
What Meowth sees is a massive refrigerator.
"We wasn't just dreaming!" Meowth says.
Jessie and James happily, "Wow! Our refrigerator!"
"And still fully stuffed?!" Mewoth says.
They soon open the fridge.
"Hello," Jessie happily says.
"Hi," James says.
"Member us?" Meowth adds.
Soon, Wobbuffet says, "Woooobbuffet!" (Hey! How you doing?)
The fantasy soon ends and later, Meowth has everything ready for cooking.
"Well, since we have all dis food, leave it to me, Chef Meowth, to cook us all a cordon bleu meal," Meowth says, but looks and sees Jessie and James stuffing their faces.
Meowth scolds them, "Dat ain't on da menu!"
"You've never cooked one decent meal in your nine lives, Meowth!" Jessie sternly says.
"I agree!" James replies.
"I guess if you put it dat way, gee, how could I not join yous both?" Meowth says, but he ends up biting onto a can of tuna and hurts himself, "Second tought, I betcha I could do bettah den dis anyways," and throws the can away.
However, the can rolls right up to Brawly, who promptly picks it up.
"What's that?" Tomo asks.
"It's my food!" Brawly says.
Mew soon hears something, "Hmm, Brawly, I think someone's in here."
The group soon hear Team Rocket's muffled laughter before seeing them eating up above them.
Jessie: (muffled)
Prepare for trouble from up on a ridge!
James: (muffled)
Make it double cause we raided the fridge!
Jessie: (muffled)
To protect the world from devastation!
James: (muffled)
To unite all peoples within our nation.
Jessie: (muffled)
To denounce the evils of a, (takes a bite of a pear) yummy pear.
James: (muffled)
To extend our reach, (takes a bite of an apple) to a chocolate éclair.
Jessie:
Jessie.
James: (muffled)
James.
Jessie:
Team Rocket blasts off with all the five food groups.
James:
And believe it or not, that includes much of all soups!
Meowth:
Oy gevalt!
Wobbuffet:
Wobbuuuuffet! (Bon appetite!)
"Team Rocket!" Everyone cries out.
Shauna angrily says, "You have no right to be eating that food!"
"Hey, how'd you dudes get into my sparring area?" Brawly questions.
"No no no, this is Team Rocket's secret base!" Jessie says.
"We like to think of it as home, and you're not invited in!" James says.
"Not by da hair of my chinny-chin-chin!" Meowth adds.
Jessie then calls out, "Go, Seviper!" and throws her Pokeball.
Seviper comes out.
James does the same, "Cacnea, I choose you!"
Cacnea comes out, but goes to hug James instead.
"And you, choose me," James says.
Jessie calls out, "Seviper, Haze attack!"
The Haze quickly spreads, blinding everyone.
Then James calls out, "Cacnea, Pin Missile!"
Cacnea fires the attack, but luckily misses.
Mew says to Team Rocket, "You're not gonna get away with this, Team Rocket! Pikachu? Eevee? You ready?!"
Pikachu and Eevee agree.
But Brawly says, "Don't do it. It'd be like charging headfirst into a damper."
"A damper?" Mew says, confused.
"That's a wave that breaks all the way across at the same time, it's pretty painful if you get caught in one," Shauna says.
"How's that?" Jen asks.
"You'll see," Shauna says.
Brawly then says to Team Rocket, "Listen up, dudes, time to climb back on your board and catch a wave on out of here.
"Our boards are in da shop," Meowth says.
"So, we'll be staying right here, in our newly found base," Jessie adds.
And then James says, "And by the by, if you're trying "to clear us out of here, you'll need something more powerful than your silly expressions!
"Alright. Just stay right there, cause here comes something more powerful," Brawly says.
He then hears something and says, "Ah, I hear it coming now."
What Brawly, and Team Rocket hear and feel, is a rumbling.
"What's that? Does a subway line run through here?" James asks.
"James, does this look like a subway platform to you?" Jessie adds.
"So what else could dat be?" Meowth questions.
"Cause of the shape of this island, some waves can cause a jet of water to shoot up into the air," Brawly says.
"That's right, the world's natural fountains, geysers!" Brawly asks.
"Where does it shoot up?" Jessie asks.
"Right there!" Brawly answers.
Jessie looks down.
"you mean?" James asks.
"'Here', dere?'" Meowth asks, feeling uneasy.
"Yep!' Brawly says.
"Exactly where you're standing," Shauna says.
"Woooobbuffet." (Oh, bother.) Wobbuffet says.
Right on cue, the geyser erupts, sending Team Rocket shooting up through the hole they fell into.
"Was a little warning too much to ask for?!" Jessie asks, panicking.
"He could've at least put up some caution signs!" James says.
"Dis is what you call trowing caution to da wind!" Meowth adds.
Team Rocket cries out, "Looks like Team Rocket's blasting off again!"
"Now that our uninvited guests are gone, let me show you my sparring area," Brawly says.
The group enters and sees all sorts of training equipment.
"Wow. Look at all this stuff," Max says.
"Look at all that training equipment," May says.
Jen looks around, "Weights, dumbbells and punching bags all over the place."
"Just enough equipment to train every kind of fighting type Pokemon there is, and their trainers, too," Shauna says.
"Cool," Mew says.
"You think it's all that, just wait! Through there is the battlefield we've got here,"
They soon enter and the lights come on to illuminate it.
"Brawly, this is awesome!" Mew says.
"It's so, different," May says.
"Yeah, I've never seen anything like it," Max says.
Then Molly asks, "What's with the holes on the field?"
"For the ebb and flow of the tide, dude. They create powerful jets of water like the geyser we saw earlier. And the circle in the middle is made to warn the participants," Brawly says.
"So that means you gotta use the whole battlefield and avoid the water jets as well as attacks from the other Pokemon," Brock says.
"Then I guess you'd have to use both the flat stone battlefield and the geysers while you battle, huh?" Msx says.
"Awesome. I can't wait to try it out," Mew says.
"Me too," Tomo says.
"Sure. Which one of you want to start first?" Brawly asks.
Tomo says, "Me. I want to go first.
"Great," Brawly says.
Soon, both Tomo and Brawly are both in place and ready to begin to battle while the rest are sitting and are going to watch Tomo battle.
"I wonder what Pokemon Tomo is going to use," Tomo says.
Max thinks, "A flying type would be a good choice for this battlefield."
"Maybe," May says.
Shauna then says, "We will now begin the training battle between the gym leader, Brawly, and the challenger, Tomo from Pallet Town! Each trainer will be using one Pokemon. Ready, Brawly? Ready, Tomo?"
Brawly and Tomo nod their heads in response.
Then Shauna then announces, "Now, begin!"
Brawly then calls out, "Machop, I choose you!"
Machop soon comes out.
"Looks like I'll be battling Machop," Tomo says as he gets out his Pokeball, "I know which Pokemon to use." He then throws his Pokeball as he calls out, "I choose you, Abra!"
And with that, Abra comes out of the Pokeball and is ready to battle.
"Looks like Tomo is going for Abra," Brock says.
"That's a good idea. Abra is a Psychic Type, so it should have an advantage against a Fighting Type," Max says.
"But remember, Brawly had experiences with Psychic Types, so it won't be easy, especially in this battlefield," Mew says.
"Mew is right. This won't be easy even with a Psychic Type Pokemon," Brock says.
Brawly calls out, "Machop, Karate Chop!"
Machop closes in.
"Dodge Abra!" Tomo calls out.
Abra dodges the attack, causing the attack to destroy a stalagmite before both Pokemon land on two other stalagmites
"Abra dodged it!" Max says.
"That's a good start!" May says.
"So far so good," Brock says.
"Well, dude, looks like you've trained well," Brawly says.
"Thanks. I've also helped Mew and the others with their training," Tomo says.
Tomo then calls out, "You doing good, Abra?"
Abra nods.
"That's good, but not good enough to beat me," Brawly says, "Machop, use Karate Chop again!"
Machop charges in, but Abra nimbly evades and leaps from stalagmite to stalagmite like they were trees, annoying Machop.
"Machop, Karate Chop again!" Brawly calls out.
Machop throws the attack over and over again, but Abra dodges each one.
"Good job, Abra! Keep it going! Tomo calls out.
"Why do I get the feeling I've seen this battle before?" May asks.
"Actually, it's just like Mew and Brawly's last battle together, but they've swapped strategies," Max says.
"Yeah, but if Tomo is using Brawly's own strategy, how is it possible that Brawly is falling for it?" Brock wonders.
"Yes! Machop is already getting tired," Tomo says.
Brawly calls out, "Machop, use Cross Chop!"
Machop charges the attack, but it ends up backfiring and leaves Machop wide open.
"Alright Abra, use Shadow Ball!" Tomo calls out.
Abra fires the attack and nails Machop.
"Yeah, and Machop's got nothing left!" Max cheers.
"This looks like Tomo has this round!" May says.
But Brock says, "I don't think so."
Machop gets back up, surprising Tomo and Abra.
"Uh oh," Tomo says.
Then Brawly says, "Tomo, remember what I told you about the ebb and the flow of the tide?"
Tomo soon realizes what Brawly was talking about, as do the others.
"The geysers!" May and Molly say in shock.
"Yep. You gotta work with nature, dude," Brawly says.
"Work with nature?" Tomo and Mew respond, confused.
Brawly then says, "If you're not gonna move, then I will! Machop, Cross Chop, now!"
Machop charges the attack, and then the ground starts to shake
"Get ready!" Tomo says.
"What's going on?" May asks.
"This is bad!" Max adds.
Mew calls out, "Look out, Tomo! The geyser's coming!"
Right on cue, the geyser shoots up, giving Machop a boost.
Quick Abra, Teleport!" Tomo calls out.
Abra teleports just in time, while Machop destroys another stalagmite. Abra appears at another location.
"Machop's so strong!" Molly says.
"Yeah, that was a big stalagmite!" Jen adds.
Mew sighs in relief, "That was too close."
"And that would've been Abra without Tomo's quick thinking," Brock says. hadn't recalled it back to its Pokéball in time.
"A lucky escape this time, little dude, but you'll never beat me by running away," Brawly says.
"Don't worry, I don't plan on running away," Tomo says.
He then calls out, "Now Abra, use Swift Attack!"
Abra then uses the attack and hits Machop hard.
"Now, use Iron Tail!" Tomo calls out.
Brawly calls out, "Machop, block it with Karate Chop!"
Machop manages to do so.
"Now Cross Chop!" Brawly calls out.
"Shadow Ball, Abra!" Tomo calls out.
Both attack mananges to collide and cause a explosion, pushing the two Pokemon back. They both stand intensity, but Abra soon collapses on the ground of exhaustion, and is knocked down.
Shauna announces, "Abra is unable to battle! Machop wins!"
Alright, great job Machop!" Brawly says.
Tomo walks to Abra and helps it up, "Hey Abra, you okay?"
Abra nods in response, a bit dizzy, but is okay.
"You were great during that battle," Tomo says.
Abra nods in response, but suddenly, Abra begins to glow. That catches everyone by surprise.
"What's going on?" Shauna asks, surprised.
"Well, this is unexpected," Braswly says, knowing what the glow means.
"Abra," May says.
"That's right," Brock says.
"Abra's evolving," Mew says.
Soon enough, Abra's shape is changed and once the evolution is completed, Abra has evolved into Kadabra.
"Awesome Kadabra, you evolved," Tomo says.
Kadabra nods, but soon stumbles back that it sits on the ground.
Tomo helps Kadabra sit down, "Guess you're still tired from the battle," And takes out his Pokeball, "Here you go, you deserve a good rest," and calls Kadabra back into its Pokeball.
"Well Tomo, you really did great there. The training not only helps Ashely, but you as well," Brawly says.
"Thanks," Tomo says.
Then Shauna asks, "Hey Tomo, are you planning on doing gym battles someday."
"I do, but I want to wait until we get back to Kanto, and I want to travel and train some more before starting gym battles," Tomo says.
"Sounds awesome. I hope to be with you again someday," Brawly says.
"Thanks," Tomo says.
Soon, Mew and Brawly are positioned for their battle.
"Now well be having the training battle between Brawly the Dewford Island Gym Leader and Ashley from Pallet Town. The rule will be the same as the previous battle," Shauna says.
"Ready dudette," Brawly asks.
"Sure am. Can't wait to show you all the training we did," Mew says.
Then Shauna says, "Begin!"
Then Brawly says, "Now, fresh from the surf, Hariyama! Ride it, dude!"
And now Hariyama comes out and lands with a loud thud.
Mew then calls out, "Treecko, I choose you!"
Brawly calls out, "Hariyama, Arm Thrust!"
Hariyama charged forward.
"Dodge that, Treecko!" Mew calls out.
Treecko does so.
"Treecko, get ready. We're gonna keep using Pound on its legs," Mew calls out.
Treecko charges and lands a Pound on Hariyama's right leg.
"Hairyama, Arm Thrust!" Brawly calls out.
Hariyama throws the attack over and over, but Treecko dodges every time before using its tail to swing around a Stalagmite and land a Pound attack on its right leg two more times.
"How come Treecko keeps aiming attacks at its legs?" May asks.
"Because as strong as Hariyama is, that strength comes from its legs. If Mew can weaken its legs, Hariyama won't have much power," Brock says.
"I get it now!" Max says.
Treecko dodges two more attacks from Hariyama.
"Vital Throw, now!" Brawly calls out.
Hariyama stomps on the ground, but winces in pain before going through with the attack, though Treecko dodges.
"Oh no!" Brawly cries out.
"Good job, Treecko!" Mew calls out.
Seeing the battle, May says, "Looks like Hariyama missed with that Vital Throw!"
"After all those attacks on its legs, it didn't have enough power or speed," Brock says.
Hariyama tends to its injured leg while Treecko pants, clearly tired from the battle.
"But Treecko seems to be getting pretty tired. Do you think it'll be able to keep that same strategy going?" May says, worried.
"They're both are starting to get tired," Molly says.
"At this point, anything could happen," Jen says.
The others agree.
Hariyama gets back to its feet.
"It wants to continue? Fine with me," Mew says, "Now, we're gonna need some serious power to beat this Hariyama. Treecko, this is the chance we've been waiting for, right?"
Treecko agrees and steps forward
"Okay, little dude, the time's come to decide the match! Ready, Hariyama?!" Brawly says.
Hariyama confirms and steps forward, right over a geyser, much like Treecko had done as they both stand off.
"Something's up," Max says.
"I know, but I can't figure out what they're doing," May says.
Then Brock says, "I have a pretty good idea."
Everyone waits as the rumbling continues. And then, the geysers erupt
Brawly: Hariyama, Knock Off attack!" Brawly calls out.
"Treecko, Pound attack!" Mew calls out.
Both Pokémon dart towards each other on their respective geysers and their attacks seemingly connect before they both land. After a moment, Hariyama ends up being the one to fall.
Shauna announces, "Hariyama is unable to battle! Treecko wins! The winner is Ashley from Pallet Town!"
"Alright! Good job, Treecko! You're the best!" Mew says.
"Treecko Treecko." (Don't forget it.) Treecko says.
Me giggles, "Oh Treecko. Trust me, I won't forget."
"That was a great battle," May says.
"Yay," Molly happily says.
Time has gone by and it's the evening, Mew and the others are now at shore on Dewford Island.
"That was great training," Mew says.
"Yeah. The island where you do your training is great," Brock says.
"Glad you all like it," Brawly says.
Then turns to Mew, "And you and Tomo fought a great battle right to the end without ever losing your focus. In trying to fix their faults, many trainers end up losing their strengths, too. But, two, you managed to keep a cool head even when surprises were thrown your way.
Shauna winks and says, 'Cause you're a cool dudes."
Mew blushes and giggles, "Thank you."
"Thanks. Even though I lost, I must admit, I really learn a lot from this," Tomo says.
May says to Mew, "Still your battle was awesome. And what a great strategy."
"I'm not sure how much of that was actually a strategy," Max says.
"That's what makes Ashley's battles so interesting," Brock says.
Brawly says, "I'm real proud of you, little dude. If you keep on battling like that, believe me, you're gonna be a force to be reckoned with in the Hoenn League. Keep on training and be the best you can."
"Thanks Brawly," Mew says with a smile
As the last day of training draws to a close, Mew and Tomo are able to learn much from their battle against Brawly, and Tomo's Abra evolves into Kadabra. Now Mew and her friends will continue on to their next stop to the Hoenn League.
