Episode 36: Win, Lose or Drew!
On a bright sunny day, Mew and May are running through the streets of Slateport.
"Hurry up, you guys! We can't miss this! We have to make it!" May cries out.
"I was about to say the same thing! I can't believe we forgot about it!" Mew says.
"It wouldn't have been a bad idea to check the deadline a little earlier!" Jen says.
"That would've been too obvious, Jen. May's an expert at forgetting only the most important things," Max says.
"Remind me why we're all running along with her and Mew?" Brock asks.
"You guys don't have to rub it in, I get your point! Hurry!" May says.
"Yeah. We don't have much time!" Mew says.
It's the opening day of the Pokemon Contest in Slateport City. This could be May as a contestant, and Mew's second Contest entry, that is, if they make it there in time.
They soon arrive at the site where the Contest will be held, and as a relief, both Mew and May reach the stand.
Exhausted, May holds her Contest pass, "Excuse me. I'm not too late to enter the Pokemon Contest, am I?"
The receptionist looks at the pass, "No, you just made it."
May sighs in relief, "Boy, that was close."
"A little too close, in my opinion," Tomo says.
'Oh, well. It was a nice morning workout," Brock says.
Mew asks, "Ma'am, could you enter my information on my pass once you finish May's?"
"Certainly," The receptionist says.
Soon, the receptionist finishes entering May's information.
"Now for you, miss," The receptionist says.
Mew hands over her pass, and the receptionist enters the information.
Then the receptionist gives the girls their pass, "There we go. Now, the contest begins precisely at 1 pm."
Mew and May take their pass, "We won't be late!"
Mew and the others look at the clock to see that it's ten right now.
"We still have three more hours until the contest," Mew says.
"If it's three hours from now, what should we do until then?" Molly asks.
"Well, we've already had breakfast," Mew says.
"We can go over our contest performances once more and then go grab a little lunch," May says.
"In that case, let's head outside and then we can go search for a restaurant," Brock says.
The group soon take their leave from the contest Hall. But as soon as they do, three familiar faces walk in, and perform their usual motto. That's Team Rocket.

Prepare for trouble and a stylish entrance.
James:
Make it double as I formulate my sentence.
Jessie:
To protect the world from devastation.
James:
To unite all peoples within our nation.
Jessie:
To denounce the evils of truth and love.

To extend our reach to the stars above.

Team Rocket, a touch of class at the speed of light.
James:
Surrender now to our refinement, or prepare to fight.
Meowth:
Meowth! Dat's right!
Wobbuffet:
Wobbu Wobbuffet! (End of entrance scene!)
After the motto, Jessie presents her pass to the receptionist, "Darling, you may now enter the future winner of the Pokemon Contest."
But the receptionist says, "I'm afraid the deadline to enter the contest came and gone a few minutes ago. I'm so sorry."
Team Rocket were completely shocked at the news.
"Ten o'clock was the cutoff time," The receptionist says.
"The curse of artistic genius," Team Rocket cries out in defeat.
They soon sit outside the Contest Hall and sulk.
"Three hours of beauty sleep lost for nothing,' Jessie says, defeated.
"So, what now, Jess?" James asks.
"We go back to bed?" Meowth suggests.
Suddenly, someone shouts, "Heads up!"
Someone throws something, but a Poochyena catches it before returning to its trainer.
"Hey," Team Rocket says.
"Pretty good, isn't it, Poochyena? There's plenty more, "The trainer says, petting his Pokemon.
And the trainer brings out some Pokeblocks.
Seeing it, Jessie asks, "What's he got in his hand?"
"It appears to be some of that Pokéblock," James answers.
"Da buzz is dat Pokemon just love da stuff," Meowth says
"You don't say," Jessie replies.
And James says, "And now, taking it one step further, I would assume all trainers need some Pokéblock?"
"We hear ya, James!" Meowth says.
"Now introducing the new Pokéblock sales team!" Jessie says.
"Yay!" James and Meowth happily cheer.
"Wo Wo Wobbuffet!" (Then let's get to it!)
Later, inside the Contest Hall, the show was about to begin.
The announcer, Vivian, says, "Ladies and gentlemen, thank you very much for your patience. The Slateport City Pokemon Contest will now begin!"
The crowd cheers with excitement. Vivian continues, "Now, let's meet our judges! First of all, the chief of the Pokemon Activities Committee, the fair but firm Mr. Raoul Contesta! Next we have the president of the Pokemon Fan Club, Mr. Sukizo! And finally, Slateport City's very own Nurse Joy! The coordinator who earns their way to victory will be honored with the much esteemed Slateport ribbon! Coordinators skilled enough to earn five ribbons in contests held throughout the region will be allowed to compete in the ultimate test for all Coordinators, the Grand Festival! My name is Vivian Meridian, and I'm completely honored to be your MC today."
Meanwhile, in the dressing rooms, May is so nervous that she's shaking.
Tomo calls out, "Hey, May? May?"
"Hello?! May?!" Max calls out.
May regains herself, "Huh? What? What's wrong?"
"Are you okay?" Jen asks.
"You seem nervous," Molly adds.
May cries out, "No! No! No! No! I'm not nervous at all!"
"It's understandable. Although you performed with Janet before during last month's contest in Rustboro, this is really the first time you've been on stage all by yourself," Brock says.
"I've never been this scared. Ever," May says.
"Stay calm. Cause your Pokémon feel the way you do," Mew says.
"Really? They do?" May asks.
Beautifly lands on May's head.
"Do you, Beautifly?" May asks.
"That's what Mr. Big was telling us about it. If the trainer is nervous, the Pokémon will feel just as nervous," Mew says.
"Remember, you and Ashely worked really hard to get into this Contest, May. Everything will be fine as long as you stay calm,"
May exhales and nods.
"And Beautifly, I'm certain you'll show the judges how a perfect Silver Wind is done," Mew says.
"Good luck, guys. You'll be great!" Max
As everyone talks, Drew listens in.
Soon, the Appeals Round begins and, one after another, Pokémon Coordinators take the stage to showcase their Pokémon in such a way that their appearances and skills are highlighted
Vivian says, "In the preliminary round, known as the Appeals Round, Coordinators and their Pokemon are judged for performance quality on the acts they worked so hard on."
As Vivian talks, several Pokémon take the stage. Back in the dressing room, Mew and the others watch.
"Wow. Those tricks are awesome!" Tomo says.
"Those Pokémon look like they've all been raised well," Max says.
"That's for sure," Brock says.
Then Vivan announces, "Next up, is contestant 24. So give a warm welcome to Drew!"
The spotlight comes down on him, and our heroes watch him from both the dressing room…
"There he is," Mew says.
"That Drew. Think he's so great," May says.
And the grandstands.
With that, Drew calls out, "Okay. Roselia, go!"
And Roselia comes out and takes the stage.
Drew calls out, "Now, use Petal Dance."
Roselia's petals gracefully spread and descend to the ground.
"Roselia takes the stage with a gorgeous Petal Dance," Vivan says.
Roselia lands on the stage with a graceful curtsy.
"Just fabulous,' Vivan says.
'That was okay, I guess," Jen says.
"It was beautiful," May says, amazed.
Then Drew calls out, "Next, use Stun Spore!"
Roselia twirls around as it spreads the Stun Spore into the air.
"Add Magical Leaf!" Drew calls out.
Roselia halts her Stun Spore and launches Magical Leaf from her red rose hand, creating beautiful sparkles as the attack hits the Stun Spore.
"Outstanding! Magical Leaf and Stun Spore! These two have completely won over the audience with their teamwork," Vivan says.
Back in the dressing room.
"That really is pretty," May says.
"I have to agree. Drew really knows how to present a Grass Type Pokemon along with their moves," Mew says.
Then Drew says, "And now it's time to finish up. Roselia, use Petal Dance!"
Roselia creates a blizzard of petals and seemingly disappears, surprising everyone.
"It vanished?" May asks.
Then Drew calls out, "Magical Leaf!"
The attack cuts up some of the petals before they and the sparkles from the Magical Leaf fall to the ground as Roselia reappears and takes a bow with Drew as the crowd cheers.
"Perfect! What'd you expect?" Drew says with confidence.
"So now, we wait for the judges' opinion of that excellent performance," Vivan says.
Mr. Contesta gives Drew and Roselia a score of 9.8, Mr. Sukizo gives them a score of 9.9, and Nurse Joy gives them a score of 9.7, giving a grand total of 29.4. to the surprise of everyone in both the dressing room and the grandstands.
"29.4! That's the highest score yet!" Vivian says.
"That's the highest score?!" Tomo says, shocked.
"No surprise there," Brock says.
Vivian walks to Nurse Joy and asks, "Your comments?"
"That was a great combination!" Nurse Joy says.
"It was remarkable!" Mr. Sukizo says.
And Mr. Contesta says, "And as for me, I was impressed with their great use of the entire stage."
"This guy may be better than I thought," May says.
"Yeah. He's going to be tough to beat," Mew says.
Meanwhile, Team Rocket was about to get to work.
"I sure make this concession girl outfit look good," Jessie says.
"This is our Pokéblock one-stop food shop!" James says.
"Woooobbuffet!" (Now open!) Wobbuffet says.
"You know, we bettah hurry and get us some of it," Meowth adds.
"Don't worry, we'll just overpower some lame coordinators and steal every bit of block they've got!" Jessie says.
"Smooth move," Meowth says.
"Now, what do we say?" Jessie says.
Team Rocket cheers, "Yay!"
"Wo!" (Yay!) Wobbuffet says.
Soon, an old man approaches, and asks, "Hello, there. Is this a Pokéblock shop?"
"Yes, sir. You're our first customer," Jessie says.
Then James says, "Sadly, our Pokéblock supply hasn't arrived yet."
"Aha. Then please allow me to teach you the deepest secrets of the Pokéblock. With my help, your Pokéblock business is going to explode," The old man says.
"We love secrets," Jessie says with a smile.
"And we're big on explosions, too," James says.
And Meowth says, "Come on, give it up."
"Woooobbuffet!" (We're all ears.) Wobbuffet says.
Backstage, May still seems nervous after seeing Drew perform as Mew tries to comfort her.
Drew's voice calls out, "Yo."
May and Mew look up and see Drew.
"I see you made it," Drew says.
"Hello, Drew," May replies.
"Hi," Mew says.
"I trust that you and Ashley caught our performance. That was, some true art," Drew says.
"What do you want? Did you just come here to brag?" May questions, annoyed.
"No, as a great Coordinator, I came here to cheer you both on. See, I want you both to make it through at least the preliminary round," Drew says.
"Well, then, just watch us, oh great one!" May says.
"We'll show you what we can do," Mew says.
Soon, their talk is interrupted by the TV screen.
Vivian says, "And now, the next Coordinator to take the stage, number 38, Robert!"
Robert has blonde hair, blue eyes, and fair skin. He is wearing a purple jacket and an orange scarf.
Robert calls out, "Now, Milotic, let's use Safeguard.
Milotic radiates itself in a green aura, amazing the crowd.
Mr. Contesta says, "That looks awe-inspiring!"
"Yes, simply remarkable," Mr. Sukizo says.
"I'm very impressed," Nurse Joy says.
Brock and the others enter the stage area and find Robert and Milotic performing.
"Wow. It's Milotic," Tomo says.
"Beautiful," Molly says.
"Pretty!" Jen says.
"I heard some people think Milotic is the most beautiful Pokémon of all," Max says.
"Me, too. What a great choice for a Contest, huh?" Brock says.
Milotic fans out its tail to show off its magnificent scales to the roaring crowd.
"With its dazzling appearance combined with its awesome technique, Milotic has the whole stadium enraptured!" Vivan says.
As Vivian finishes her sentence, Milotic waves its tail while May, Mew, and Drew watch backstage
"Beautiful," May says.
"Really elegant," Mew says.
Outside, the old man is enlightening Team Rocket.
The old man explains, "You see, all Pokéblock is made out of berries and it's important to come up with your own special mix of berries to create a type of Pokéblock that belongs to you and to you alone. You get my drift?"
As the old man talks, James jots down everything said.
"Clear as a bell," James says.
Back inside the Contest Hall…
Then Vivian announces, "Next up on the stage is contestant number 49, a recently new contestant, Ashley from Pallet Town."
Mew soon enters the stage.
She then throws her Pokeball and calls out, "Azumarill, let's make a splash!"
And with that Azumarill comes out. She bounces on her tail before flipping and lands on her feet.
Vivian comments, "Azumarill sure makes a bounce entrance by bouncing on its tail."
Back at the stands.
"Yay. She's going with Azumarill," Molly says.
"Yeah. I remember the day that we met Azumarill,"Brock says.
Brock remembers how they meet Azumarill back in Johto, when she was abandoned by her trainer, and how Totodile helped lead her to meet Mew and the others.
Mew calls out, "Azumarill, use Bubble Beam!"
And with that Azumarill performs Bubble Beam and the bubbles fly into the air.
Then Mew calls out, "Now, use Aqua Ring!"
Azumarill performs Aqua Ring and it forms with the Bubble Beam, connecting them like a ring of bubbles.
"Wow. Azumarill uses the Aqua Ring to connect the bubbles into a ring of bubbles.
"Let's go, Azumarill!" Mew calls out.
Azumarill then allows the ring of bubbles to go around it and she swings her waist like a hula hoop. Then removes it and allows her tail to spin it. Everyone cheers and laughs with smiles.
"Wow. Azumarill looks like it's having a lot of fun!" Vivian says.
Watching from the dressing room, May says, "Wow. Azumarill is really good with the water attacks, and is having fun with it too.
"Now, throw the Ring in the air and perform Aqua Ring once more," Mew calls out.
Azumarill throws the ring and performs the Aqua Ring once more. When they collide, they explode into watery showers and sparkles. The audience cheers happily.
"That was an amazing and fun performance," Vivan says.
Then turns to the judges, "And for the final score.
Mr. Contesta gives Mew and Azumarill a score of 9.5, Mr. Sukizo gives them a score of 9.5, and Nurse Joy gives them a score of 10, giving a grand total of 29.
"And the score is 29. Impressive score," Vivian says.
Mr. Contesta says, "They put on a great performance and it's a unique way to show off her Water Pokemon."
Then Mr. Sukizo says, "The fun performance of Ashely and Azumairill was remarkable!"
"Ashely has certainly shown how well she trained her Azumatill, and is able to have fun as well," Nurse Joy says.
Mew smiles and says, "Thank you."
"Azumaill," (Thank you.) Azumarill says.
At the stand, Tomo says, "They were great out there."
"And it was fun too," Molly says.
"Yeah," Jen says.
Soon, Vivan says, "Folks, there's only one contestant left in the preliminaries, and that's entry number 50! May, you're up!"
As Vivian finishes her sentence, May stands nervously until her name is called.
"Right! Great," May says and walks onto the stage.
"Alright, it's finally May's turn," Tomo says.
"This is May's first time participating in a Pokemon Contest. So, let's give her a warm welcome and watch her Pokémon's elegant entry," Vivan says.
Nervous, May says, "Oh. Alright, then."
"This isn't good. I think she's overwhelmed by the stadium," Brock says.
"Just calm down, May!" Jen calls out.
"Come on! You can do it!" Max says.
The Pokemon cheers.
May calmly exhales and calls out, "Beautifly, let's go!"
However, in her haste, she falls backwards.
"Oh no! May!" Max cries out.
May's stumble causes the judges to worry and the audience to worry.
"Oh, no! Are you alright, dear?" Vivan asks in concern and extends her hand.
May giggles and gets up, "I'm fine. That was just a little warm up. Now, Beautifly, it's time for you to take the stage!"
Beautifly materializes with a sparkling display.
"Wow! Beautifly's marvelous wings really do catch your eye!" Vivian says.
May throws a frisbee and calls out, "String Shot!"
Beautifly launches a strand of silk and whips the frisbee back to May.
"Excellent! And a clean catch!" Vivan says.
May catches the frisbee and tosses it again, "Again!"
Beautifly whips the frisbee back to May over and over
Vivian says, "They're really going strong now! That incredible performance more than makes up for May's earlier slipup."
"Alright! She's got the hang of it now!" Tomo cheers.
"Yeah. Way to go, May!" Max cheers.
"That's a nice looking show! She's completely focused on her timing with Beautifly and got her nerve back!" Brock cheers.
Even Drew was amazed.
"Ready for this, Beautifly? Gust, let's go!" May says.
Beautifly blows the frisbee back.
"Now it's a return using Gust! If she catches this, it'll mean real points!" Vivian says.
May runs to catch it as Vivian finishes her sentence, but she starts fumbling with the frisbee.
"Oh no! Could this be a miss?!" Vivian says.
However, May manages to land with the frisbee in both hands, causing the others to sigh in relief.
"She did it! And by not dropping it, she should be just fine,"Vivian says.
"Time to finish this up, right? Silver Wind, go!
Beautifly performs the move.
"Go into a spin!" May says.
Beautifly does so, creating a Silver Wind tornado effect.
"I don't believe my eyes! Beautifly is completely surrounded by its own spiraling Silver Wind! It almost looks as if Beautifly has been wrapped in a gorgeous silver robe!" Vivian says.
"She did it," Brock cheers.
"And that's gotta be the prettiest Silver Wind she's ever done," Max says.
"I think Beautifly was born to be on stage!" Brock says.
"What do you know? That wasn't too bad at all," Drew says.
May ends her performance with a bow as Beautifly lands on her head. The crowd applauds the performance.
"So, let's find out what our judges thought of May and Beautifly's performance," Vivian says.
"Very good for a first time effort," Nurse Joy says and gives a score of 8.1.
"Yeah, she's got a bright future ahead of her," Mr. Contesta says, and gives her a score of 8.3.
Mr. Sukizo then says, "I'd say she's just remarkable!" and gives her a score of 8.5.
"And their final score is a 24.9!" Vivan says.
May deflates, "What a drag, I didn't even score a 25."
"That ends our preliminary competition! In a moment, we will announce who will move on to the second round," Vivian announces.
May soon returns to the backstage area.
"I just hope I make it to the second round," May says.
"I'm sure you will. You did good for your first time," Mew says.
"Thanks, but you did it better than I did," May says.
Suddenly, Drew offers May and Mew a rose.
"A good performance, ladies," Drew says.
"Um thank you," Mew says, taking the rose.
"That for me? Thanks, Drew," May asks, and takes the rose.
But Drew says, "Not for you, it's for your Beautifly. It's obvious that the Coordinator still has a lot of training to do. Unlike Ashley and Azumarill, it may be a fun way to do it, but it's clear she trained her Azumarill well."
"And I guess we all can't be as good as you," May says, annoyed.
"Calm down, May," Mew says.
"Okay," May says, calming down.
Back outside, Team Rocket was still listening to the old man.
The old man says, "So, you see, spicier Pokéblock tightens a Pokémon up for a brighter, smarter look. So, now let us take a good long look at thinner Pokéblock…"
As the old man talks, Jessie and Meowth yawn out of boredom while James continues to write notes.
Back in the Contest hall…
"Now, the results are in, and I thank you all for your patience," Vivian says.
The camera cuts to the display screen, showing the Coordinators who moved on to the second round, among them May, Robert, Mew and Drew.
"These eight Coordinators move on to the next round!" Vivian says
In the dressing room, May is happy she made it, as is Mew because she also made it, while Drew is surprised.
"You both made it. Because…" Drew says.
And May says, "I know, you want to say it was all because of Beautifly and Ashely's Azumarill," annoyed.
But then happily says, "Oh, who cares?! My Beautifly and I are moving on to the second round!"
"That's so cool, May and Mew are going to the second round!" Tomo says.
"I knew they can do it," Molly says.
And Max says, "You know what? Either of them might win!"
But then Brock says, "Yeah, but it's not gonna be easy. In the next round, the judges will judge the Coordinator's battling ability and May only has about a month of experience in that, unlike Mew, who's had two years of experience, so it could be rough."
"You're right," The group replies.
The faces on the screen start randomly moving around.
Vivian says, "The contestants are now being randomly chosen to see whom they will be facing in battle."
Soon, the faces are matched up, with May taking on Drew and Mew facing a girl named Josie.
"And the results are in!" Vivian says.
May is shocked to see the results, "Don't tell me!"
"No way!" Tomo says.
"Uh oh," Molly says.
"Me against you? That'll be fun," Drew says.
May says in her thoughts, "I just can't lose to him."
Soon, May and Drew are first on stage.
"The second round will consist of Contest Battles. Our contestants will have five minutes to show the judges their battling performance ability. And now, our first battle on the stage will begin!" Vivan announces.
Right as Vivian finishes her sentence, the timer starts to tick down.
Drew calls out, "Roselia, let's go, now!'
"Beautifly, take the stage!" May calls out.
Both Pokemon come out and are ready to battle.
"Let's see. Beautifly is part bug type and part flying type, and Roselia is part grass type and part poison type," Tomo says.
"And just based on those alone, Beautifly's got a humongous advantage!" Max says.
"True, but Drew seems well experienced so it's best to not take things lightly," Jen says.
"I have to agree, Jen," Brock says.
Drew calls out, "Magical Leaf, Roselia!"
Roselia launches the attack.
Then May calls out, "Beautifly, Gust!"
Beautifully launches the attack and blasts away some of the oncoming Magical Leaf.
"Yes, she sent them in different directions!" Jen cheers.
"Don't ever mess around with me," Drew says.
Right on cue, the attack maneuvers around the Gust and heads straight for Beautifly.
"But how did?! No way!" May cries out.
"May, focus!" Tomo calls out.
"May, call your move!" Brock calls out.
"Hurry!" Jen calls out.
"May!" Max calls out.
However, the cries land on deaf ears and the attack lands hard.
"Beautifly, no!" May cries out.
Roselia lands gracefully.
Drew says, "You see, Magical Leaf's the kind of attack that always hits its mark. You could never repel it with a simple Gust. I'm sorry to have to tell you that."
As a result, May loses points.
"This is bad," Molly
"She lost some points," Max says.
"Yeah. Well, I think she was fooled by that Magical Leaf," Brock says.
Seeing what's happening, Mew says in thought, "I feel as though this was my fault. I should have taught May to battle more."
Back on the battlefield, Drew calls out, "Roselia, use Stun Spore!"
Roselia then spreads the attack.
Vivian says, "That Stun Spore is really coming down on Beautifly!"
"Quick, Beautifly, use String Shot!" May calls out.
Beautifly shoots out a long strand of string.
"Go Magical Leaf!" Drew says.
Roselia launches the attack and cuts the silk string easily.
"It's not looking so good," Tomo says.
"I know. Her timing and her attacks are way off their mark," Brock says.
May loses more points.
"Okay, Beautifly, Silver Wind!" May calls out.
Beautifly then fires the attack.
But then Drew calls out, "Use Petal Dance!"
Roselia manages to make the Silver Wind dissipate before directing the attack right at Beautifly.
"Move up to dodge it!" May calls out.
Beautifly does so
Then Drew calls out, "Roselia, Solar Beam!"
Roselia charges the attack
"Now Roselia's preparing to fire a Solar Beam! As it uses the final moments to gather as much solar energy as possible, this could be the end!" Vivian says.
As Vivian finishes her sentence, the clock ticks down to two minutes and sixteen seconds.
Tomo calls out, "Hey, May! If you're gonna attack, do it!"
"Beautifly, use String Shot!" May calls out.
Beautifully launches the attack.
"And Beautifly is making its move!" Vivian says.
However, the Solar Beam fires with a slight ultraviolet aura.
"What beautiful colors upon firing!" Mr. Contesta says.
"Oh my gosh! That's both colorful and remarkable!" Mr. Sukizo says.
And with that, the Solar Beam hits Beauitfly hard.
Everyone but May cries out, "Beautifly!"
"Wow! The most powerful grass type attack ever has been fired and scored a direct hit!" Vivan says.
Beautifly, beaten and battered, slowly drops to the ground.
"Beautifly. Hang in there, please," May calls out.
"Precious but little time remains. Can Beautifly get back into the battle?" Vivan announces.
However, the judges all disagree as a buzzer sounds.
"It's a Battle Off, for Beautifly," Vivian says.
"Battle Off?" Molly asks.
"What's Battle Off?!" Jen asks.
"The judge's rule that the battle is over!" Brock says.
"It also means that Beautifly is unable to continue!" Tomo says.
Molly sadly says, "That means May lost…."
"Drew and Roselia shall proceed to their next battle of the round!" Vivian announces.
Drew simply takes a bow before taking his leave as the crowd applauds, while May is left on her knees in defeat and in tears.
"So that's it, I guess May lost," Max says, sadly.
"Guess once you lose that, you've lost the whole thing…" Tomo says.
"Yeah. That Roselia of Drew's was...pretty amazing," Brock says, sadly.
Seeing the results, Mew sadly says, "Oh May…"
Everyone heads backstage to console and comfort May after her devastating defeat.
"I'm so sorry, May," Max says.
"We all are," Molly says.
"I stink. I didn't do a thing!" May says.
"You don't stink. Your performance was beautiful," Molly says.
But still in tears, May says, "To think my Beautifly worked so hard out there. All I did was totally mess everything up. I feel awful."
"It's okay," Tomo says.
"You know, the only thing I could think about was how much fun it would be if I entered a Pokemon Contest, and to perform side by side with Beautifly. But, I... Never thought how hard it would be to lose!" May says in tears.
"It hurts, May," Brock says.
"It hurts, a lot," Max says.
Mew then comforts May, "It does hurt, May. You remember the contest in Rustboro City?"
"Yeah. You didn't win and you seem to be okay with it," May says.
"True, but deep down, I was also very upset. Even though it was the last minute, I had a great time with Eevee there, and I was upset that I was so close to winning and I didn't at the end," Mew explains.
"You… you were?" May asks, shocked.
"Yes. And despite that, it just makes me want to try even harder, because at the end, I really enjoyed Pokemon Contest," Mew says, "To be honest, despite how well I did, I have lost a couple of times against other trainers in the last, but it just makes me want to try harder, and become strong with my Pokemon. Losing isn't always easy, but you can make it into strength and do better next time."
May wipes the tears from her face and says, "Thanks, you're a great friend. And you also did great during your Contest Battle."
"Thank you," Mew says.
Just then, they hear the audience on the TV before finding what looked like Drew on the ropes.
As Vivian announces, "Ladies and gentlemen, we're three minutes into the second match. Roselia defeated Beautifly without taking a hit, but it's a different story against Milotic's awesome strength."
"Milotic, let's give Iron Tail a try," Robert calls out.
Without making much of a verbal sound, Milotic smacks Roselia hard.
"Roselia, Magical Leaf, now!" Drew calls out.
Roselia recovers and launches the attack.
Rober then calls out, "Alright, Milotic, use Twister."
Milotic launches the attack, completely countering Magical Leaf as the timer hits zero.
Vivian says, "Time's up! Robert and Milotic will proceed on to the final battle!"
Drew is left in shock that he lost.
And then says, "That's it. It's over."
"Milotic managed to combine overwhelming power with beauty and style in perfect synchronicity with its trainer, Robert," Vivian announces.
In the dressing room, the gang are surprised.
"Unbelievable. Drew lost," Tomo says.
"I know. That Milotic's super strong," Max says.
"I guess there's always gonna be someone who's better, right?" Brock says.
Mew also says, "Of course, that would also mean that I'll be battling Robert now."
"Yeah. And he's not going to be easy to beat," Max says.
"I know," Mew says.
A little later, the final round of the Slateport Pokemon Contest is about to take place. And it's Ashley, A.K.A Mew, against Robert.
Vivian announces, "With the Slateport Contest drawing to a close, get ready for the final battle. It all comes down to the final battle. Begin!"
And with that, the five minute countdown begins.
Robert calls out, "Milotic, go!"
"Azumarill, I choose you!" Mew calls out.
And both Pokemon are out of the Pokeball and are ready to battle.
"Let's start with Iron Tail!" Robert says.
Milotic soon performs the Iron Tail.
'Dodge!" Mew calls out.
Azumarill uses her tail to bounce high and dodge the attack.
"Bubble Beam!" Mew calls out.
Azumarill is able to attack and hit Milotic.
"Azumarill is able to bounce to dodge and counter with Bubble Beam. That causes Robert to lose a few points," Vivian says as Robert's points go down a little.
Then Robert calls out, "Twister!"
Milotic performs Twister and counters the Bubble Beam, and soon hits Azumarill.
"Azumarill!" Mew calls out.
"Milotic counters with Twister causing Ashely to lose points," Vivian says as Ashely's points go down.
Azumarill falls to land, but Mew calls out, "Quick, use Water Gun to land!"
And with that, Azumarill uses a Water Gun to safely land on the ground safely.
"What a safe landing," Vivian says.
At the stand, Jen sighs in relief, "That was close."
"Yeah, but Robert is really good," Brock says.
"Will Ashely be able to beat him?" May asks, herself worried.
Just then, Vivian says, "And we have less than three minutes on the clock," and shows that they have less than three minutes left.
"Now Milotic, Aqua Tail!" Robert says.
Then Milotic performs the attack.
"Use Aqua Tail, too!" Mew calls out.
Azumarill performs Aqua Tail as well. Both the attacks collide with one another, but Milotitc is stronger and mananges to fling Azumarill into the air.
"Now Twister!" Robert calls out.
Milotic performs the attack and Azumarill ends up getting trapped in it.
"Azumarill!" Mew calls out.
"Wow. And Milotic performs a Twister, having Azumarill trapped," Vivian says.
It shows that Mew is losing points as well.
"Azumarill is in trouble!" Brock says, shocked.
"Mew better do something or she's going to lose," May says.
"What can they do?" Max asks.
Mew says in thought, "I gotta do something. Think Mew, think."
Mew then has an idea and calls out, "Azumaril, use Bubble Beam!"
Azumarill hears Mew and begins to perform the attack as she is being twirled around.
Then calls out, "Now, use Aqua Ring!"
Azumarill uses Aqua Ring as well, which makes the Aqua Ring appear as the Bubble Beam connects together making a protective barrier.
"Wow. Azumarill uses Bubble Beam and Aqua Ring combined around itself to protect against the Twister," Vivian says.
The attacks and performance causes Robert to lose more points and Mew still loses some from the Twister.
"Now, use Tackle! Full Force!" Mew calls out.
Azumarill then performs the attack with full force as Azumarill dives down and spins down towards Milotic. Suddenly, Azumarill begins to glow as water forms around it as Azumarill dives down with full force through the Twister, and with that attack, it strikes at Milotic with full force. Soon, Azumarill, who is now surrounded by water, flies around up in the air and dives down and hits Milotic from the other side. Then Azumarill lands on her feet.
Everyone is surprised by the sudden attack, even Mew's friends, Robert, and Drew.
Surprised, May asks, "What was that?"
"That was Aqua Jet!" Max says, shocked.
"Azumarill has learned Aqua Jet!" Brock says.
Mew happily says, "Wow. you've learned a new move!"
Robert smiles, "That was very impressive, but Milotic and I still have a fight within us," Then calls out, "Use Aqua Tail!"
Milotic then begins performing Aqua Tail.
"Use Aqua Tail too!" Mew calls out.
Both Water Pokemon perform Aqua Tail and collide with another. Milotic is able to counter, but Azumarill mananges to get away from the attack.
"Use Swift!" Mew calls out.
Azumarill performs the attack and mananges to hit Milotic.
"Safeguard!" Robert calls out.
Robert uses Safeguard to protect itself from the remaining attack.
Soon, the two breathed heavily from the attack. Before they can perform the attack, the clock has finally reached zero.
"Our time is up!" Vivan says.
That causes the trainers and Pokemon to stop.
"And the winner of the Slateport Contest is…" Vivian says.
Everyone is waiting anxiously for the results, especially Mew's friends. Drew also watches the event as well. Soon, it's revealed that the scores Robert and Mew have are close, very close. Each of them has less than a squatter left of points. The scores are very very close. But then, the screen changes to show Ashely, also known as Mew and Azumarill.
"Ashley and Azumarill!" Vivian says.
Seeing it, May and the others cheer.
"Ashley! Won!" Max cheers.
"They did it!" May cheers.
"Way to go!" Brock cheers.
Tomo, Jen, and Molly cheer, "Go Ashley! Go Azumarill!"
Pikachu and Eevee cheer, and the audience cheers as well.
Hearing that she won, Mew cheers, "We did!"
Azumarill is happy and runs to Mew. Mew picks up Azumarill and hugs her.
Mew says, "Oh Azumarill, you were wonderful, and that Aqua Jet was so awesome!"
"Azumarill," (Thank you.)
Robert is surprised that he lost, but smiles and says, "I have to admit that Ashley is very impressive."
Meanwhile, outside, as the sun started to set, Team Rocket was still listening to the old man.
The old man continues, "And when it comes to addressing the daunting task of improving the quality and thickness of a Pokémon's fur, we discover that it can be implemented through using the right kind of berries and, of course, in the proper proportions to achieve the maximum…"
As the old man rambles on, Jessie and Meowth are shown to have fallen asleep while James continues to write down notes.
Back in the Contest Hall, Ashley is given his prize
Vivian announces, "And now, the coveted Slateport Ribbon is presented to Ashley and her Azumarill. Which means, the Slateport City Pokemon Contest has officially come to a close. Until next time!"
As Vivian talks, Drew, who was sitting in the audience, walks out of the Contest Hall, which May notices before proceeding to go after him
"Drew!" May calls out.
"Huh?" Drew says and turns to see May, "What is it, May? You want a rematch?"
"Next time, I won't be the loser," May says.
"Huh. Oh yeah? We'll just see. Of course, I'll be a lot stronger, too. Remember?" Drew says.
"We know, but Mew and May are looking forward to it," Mew says, walking over.
"Right," Drew says, "And Ashely, congrats on your win. You're going to be one tough coordinator to beat."
"Thanks," Mew says.
Then Drew takes his leave.
"Looks like Drew is more determined than before," Tomo says.
"Yeah, how about you, May?" Max asks.
"You can do it, too. We'll all help you out," Brock says.
"Thanks a lot you guys. I'm done with the sobbing! From now on, I'm gonna become a great coordinator and focus on both my training and my battling skills! Yeah. Watch me!" May says glee and determination.
Although May lost her first Pokemon Contest she has renewed energy and understands that the real challenge is just beginning. As for Mew, she finally earned her first Contest Ribbon, bringing her new motivation to achieve in earning her way to the Grand Festival, and will still earn her badges to the Hoenn League.
Meanwhile, later in the night, Team Rocket is still sitting before the old man.
The old man continues, "To put it in other words, Pokéblock is of the utmost importance in maintaining a Pokémon's health and wellbeing. It is essential to constantly adjust the proportion of ingredients to effect the needs of the Pokémon in question."
As the old man yammers on, it's revealed that Jessie and Meowth had gone to bed right on the spot. And soon, James finally collapses in tiredness and exhaustion.
