Episode 47: Candid Camerupt!
One day, Mew and her friends continue on their way to Fallarbor town for the next Pokemon Contest. However, they are feeling very hot and tired from walking through the desert.
Mew asks, "Do you have any water, Brock?"
Brock holds out his canteen and says, "Sorry, we drank the last of it a while ago."
"Oh no," Jen says.
"I'm so hot," Molly says.
Soon, the Pokemon collapsed on the ground.
"Pikachu! Eevee!" Mew says, shocked.
"Amaura!" Jen calls out.
"Meloetta! Skwovet!" Tomo says, worried.
"This is bad. We're still miles away from the next town," Brock says.
May and Max exclaim, "WHAT?!"
May cries out, "I'm thirsty! If I don't get some water soon, I might just…" and passes out.
"May, are you okay?" Max asks, "Here, let me help you…" but he lost consciousness too.
"May! Max!" Mew cries out, but collapses as well.
And soon enough, everyone falls over exhaustion, and loses consciousness. Everyone passed out from the heat. Soon, a Pokemon shows up and looks down to see the group.
The Pokemon is a quadrupedal Pokémon that resembles a Bactrian camel. It has two gray volcanoes on its back. It also has a stout body with red shaggy fur and three blue ring-shaped markings on both sides. It has bangs on top of its head, droopy ears, and a tan fur-less muzzle.
Sometime later, the group are at the house of the Pokemon's owner.
"Thanks for rescuing us. You came just in time," Mew says.
"We were burning up out there, and some of us were worse off," Brock says.
"I thought that we were all goners," May says.
"Thank you for the water," Jen says.
"And thanks for the food, too," Max says.
Soon, it is revealed to be a family that has come to their rescue. An elderly woman with gray hair in a bun, and a pink outfit.
A woman with darkish red hair, and wears an indigo blue, and light purple outfit.
And a man with a dark teal vest, green shirt, and grayish green pants. He also has dark green hair and a beard.
"You're welcome," The old woman says, "I'm just glad that you're all okay. After all, one of your friends said that one of you can't take that outdoor heat."
Soon, a young girl wearing a light yellow shirt and has reddish hair walks over with some water.
"Here's some more water. Are you still thirsty?" The girl says.
"I am, thanks," Max says.
I think you're cute," The girl says.
Max blushes, unsure of how to respond and chuckles sheepishly while May just smiles, knowing full well what was going on.
The man then says, "We've been here for several years, raising the kids and growing our crops. But ours is the only house in the entire area, so it's rare for us to have visitors drop by."
"So, welcome. It was lucky that Victoria happened to spot you while she was out farming with the Camerupt," The woman says.
"The Camerupt?" Molly questions.
"She means the Pokemon that found us," Mew says and gets out her Pokedex.
Dextette says, "Camerupt, the Eruption Pokémon. A Fire and Ground Type. Camerupt have volcanoes inside their bodies, which can erupt and spew lava from the humps on their back when angry.
"So cool," Tomo says.
"Victor tells me that you're a Pokémon trainer and you're heading for the Hoenn league," The woman says.
"Yep," Mew says.
"Our eldest son, Vito, left home two months ago to travel and compete in the Pokémon league," Victoria says.
"I guess that explains why you were so willing to help us out," Brock says.
"I'm so glad we wound up here. Thank you, Miss Vicky," May says.
"Yeah, thanks," Max says.
"Thank you," Jen replies.
Meanwhile, out in the desert heat, Team Rocket wanders.
"Now I know what a hot dog feels like, boiled in its own juices," James says, tired.
"We're all probably sweating like a Snorlax wearing jumbo sized leather pants," Meowth says.
"Please, stop the pity party, you two wimps. I'm sure we'll find water any minute now," Jessie says, tired.
"I'll take a large, please," James says and collapses.
"Make dat two wit ice…" Meowth says and collapses as well.
Oh, who am I kidding?" Jessie also collapses as well, "How embarrassing. My brilliant criminal career ends in a sweaty mess."
Soon, a young man comes upon them. He has green hair, light tan skin, wears a red shirt, yellow jacket, and has a backpack.
The young man asks, "Hey. You three need some help?"
In no time, the boy makes them a picnic
"You guys are lucky I came along. There's no food to eat here on the high plains except for what you can carry. My folks live nearby," The young man says.
"Then why are you walking around out here?" Jessie asks.
"Yeah, why aren't you on your way home?" James also asks.
"I can't, it's complicated," The young man says.
The boy has a flashback to when his family, the very family that saved Mew and the others' lives, bid him farewell as he set off on his journey, revealing that it's really Vito.
The young man explains, "My family needed my family on the farm, but they let me leave to follow my dream. So, I set off to become a Pokémon league champion."
Flashback ends
Vito continues, "The more I travel, though, the more I realize that what I really enjoyed was raising and caring for Pokémon. Battling with them just wasn't for me. So, there's no point in continuing my journey. But now my family expects me to return a champion. I don't want to disappoint them. So, I can't go home, either."
"You're stuck between your own dreams and your family's expectations, huh?" Jessie questions.
"What are you, a shrink?" Meowth asks.
Soon, James comes over in tears, "Oh, Vito. I know just how you feel!"
"Really? Why?" James asks.
"I, too, ran away from home because I could never live up to my family's expectations," James says, and puts his hands on Vito's shoulders, "I'll tell you what, I can explain it all to your family for you."
"You may be sorry. When you greet my grandma Vicky, you'll see exactly what I mean," Vito says.
Back at Vito's family house, Mew and her friends thank Vito's family for helping them.
"Thank you, guys," Mew says.
"Thank you," the kids reply.
"It was our pleasure," Vickey says.
"Is there anything we can do to repay you?" Mew asks.
"I'm pretty good in the kitchen, so I could whip up a mean soufflé," Brock says.
"Thanks anyway. We're alright," Victor says.
"It was enough that you just came to visit," Victoria says.
"I'm sure there is something we can do," Mew says.
Then Vickey says, "Well, if you really want to repay us, there is one thing."
The whole family looks towards the group with a gleam in their eyes.
Vicky then says, "I, Grandma Vicky, matriarch of the Winstrate Family…"
Then Victor comes in, "I, her son, Victor Winstrate…"
"I, his wife, Victoria Winstrate…" Victoria says.
"And I, Vivi Winstrate, their daughter…" Viv adds.
The Winstrates says, "Have a proposition for you!"
"If you insist on doing something to thank us... Agree to a battle! That is, unless you're worried that we're too much to handle," Vicky says.
The group are puzzled but quickly make their choice.
"No, it's no trouble at all," Mew says.
"So no one wants my soufflé?" Brock questions.
"Just the battle," Vicky says.
"As I told you, my eldest child, my son, Vito, started his journey two months ago to become a Pokémon league champion," Victory says.
"None of us are as good as my son, but we still participate in Pokémon battles in his honor," Victoria says.
And Vivi says, "Only, we only have each other to battle against, so it gets kind of boring."
"I could see that," Max says.
"Alright, then, what kind of battle would you suggest?" Mew asks.
"How about we go against each other, four on four," Vicky says.
"Works for me," Mew says.
"But which one of us is going to battle?" Molly asks.
"Well, Mew, May and I can battle, that makes three, one of you will need to battle," Brock says.
Then Tomo says, "Hey Max, how about you do it? You can make this your official debut battle."
"Okay," Max says.
Then May says, "Then we accept your challenge."
"Victor will start off, followed by Victoria, Vivi will battle third, and i;ll be batting clean up," Vicky says.
Then turns to the family, "You know the drill, everyone, so let's win this for Vito!
"Yeah!" The rest of the family cheers.
Soon, everyone is on the battlefield.
"Wow. This is just like an official league battlefield!" Max says, amazed.
"Yep, our whole family spent quite a while to build it," Vivi says.
Jen then volunteers, "I'll be the judge for the match.
"Alright, you act as judge, Jen," Vivi says.
"Now let's start the battle," Mew says.
Then Victor says, "And since we're the home team, I'll go ahead and let my Pokémon out, first."
"Fine. I'm ready when you are, Victor, and may the best trainer wins," Brock says.
"Okay! Here we go!" Max says.
"Okay then, let's begin the first round!" Jen says.
Soon, Brock and Victor are standing on opposite ends of the field and the rest are sitting.
"Okay. so the rule that each trainer will be using one Pokemon, no time limit. We will be having Brock of Pewter City VS Victor Winstrate of his homeland," Jen announces.
Then calls out, "And... begin!"
Victor calls out his first Pokemon, "Okay, here we go! I choose, Zigzagoon!"
And Zigzagoon comes out.
"Starting with Zigzagoon, huh. I can handle that," Brock says and gets out his Pokeball.
He then calls out, "Go Mudkip!"
And Mudkip comes out.
Brock then calls out, "Water Gun, Mudkip!"
Mudkip then sprays water, but Zigzagoon dodges.
"It dodged it," Molly says, shocked.
"Might be trouble," Max says, " That Zigzagoon is fast.
Then Victor says, "Zigzagoon, let him em with your Thunderbolt!"
"What?!" Brock exclaims in shock.
Zigzagoon performs Thunderbolt and nails it at Mudkip. The Thunderbolt is so powerful that it knocked out Mudkip.
"No, Mudkip!" Brock cries out.
Jen then announces, "Mudkip is unable to battle, Zigzagoon wins! One for the Winstrate team."
"Well done, I'm sure that Vito would be very proud of his dad," Vicky says.
"Yeah. The old man still has some tricks," Victor says.
"Wow. Your Zigzagoon can use Thunderbolt," Max says, surprised.
"There aren't any power plants around here, so dad taught it that attack to help power the lights in our house," Vivi says.
And Victor says, "And that's a real money saver. If I had lost that, Grandma Vicky would have me shoveling manure for a year."
"Come again, Victor?" Vicky questions.
Worried, Victor says, "Uh, nothing. Just said it's pretty warmer than usual for this time of year."
Brock then returns to his seat, "Go get em, May."
May walks up, "I will."
"Okay, let's begin with Round Two! Victoria Winstrate against May! Trainers, begin!"
Victoria then calls out, "Roselia, go!"
And Roselia comes out.
May is shocked to see it, "No way!"
May gets a flashback to her first encounter with Drew's Roselia.
"Now, don't you be too rough on her, Roselia," Victoria says.
"I don't need sympathy from a Roselia," May says, determined.
"Look at that, May is finally getting into battling," Max says.
"The fact that it's a Roselia helped," Brock says.
"Yeah. She remembers the first Roselia she met," Mew says.
Then May calls out to her Pokemon, "Beautifly, take the stage!"
And calls out her Beauitfly.
May calls out, "Use Gust!"
And Beautifly uses Gust on Roselia, and it's right on the mark.
May calls out, "Keep it up! Now Silver Wind!"
And with that, Beautifly uses Silver Wind and it's powerful.
"Oh wow!" Vivi says, amazed.
Roselia was quickly overpowered by the attack and was knocked out.
"Roselia!" Victoria cries out, "I never win these battles!"
Vicky: I told her not to choose that Pokémon, she'll never learn," Vicky says.
Then Jen announces, "Roselia is unable to battle. Beautifly the winner. And the point goes to the challenger, May. And the points are one to one."
May happily compliment, "Beauitfly, you were great."
"Beautifly," (Thank you, May.) Beautifly says.
Everyone cheers for May.
"That was awesome, May!" Max says.
"And she tied the battle," Brock says.
Max says, "My turn."
Soon, Max and Vivi are on the battlefield.
"Just so you know, I'm not a real trainer yet, Vivi, so I don't know how well I'll do at this. But I'll try my best to give you a good fight with the Pokemon I have, okay?" Max says.
Vivi nods and says, "That's fine with me, Max. And I'll do the same."
"Absolutely. Pokémon battles are about much more than wins and losses," Vicky says.
"And Max, no matter which one of us wins, (winks) you and I are still going to be good friends, right?" Vivi says.
"Huh?" Max replies, and blushes, "Alright, I guess so. Yeah."
"Hey. Am I crazy, or does my little brother, have a girlfriend?" May replies.
Jen tries to calm herself, and says, "Let the third match begin. Vivi Vs. Max."
Vivi calls out, "Marill, I choose you!"
And Marill comes out.
Max was too distracted thinking about Vivi, "Vivi and Max."
"Hey, the battle started!" Tomo calls out.
"You gotta concentrate!" Molly calls out.
Max quickly regains his composure, "Just getting psyched up! Go, Shroomish!"
And with that, Shroomish comes out.
Vivi calls out, "Marill, use Water Gun!"
Marill uses Water Gun.
"Shroomish, dodge, and use Headbutt!" Max calls out.
Shroomish dodges and mananges to tackle Marill.
Vivi calls out, "Bubble Beam!"
Marill performs Bubble Beam.
"Dodge, and use Leech Seed!" Max calls out.
With that, Shroomish dodges and uses Leech Seed and it lands on Marill. Soon, vines surround Marill and zaps it. And soon, Marill is knocked out.
"Marill is unable to battle, Shroomish wins. Max ears the point for the challenger side," Jen says.
"Return Marill," Vivi says.
Max does the same, "Return Shroomish!"
Max then says, "You did good Vivi."
"Thanks. Your Shroomish did great too," Vivi says.
"Thanks. I think you will be a great Trainer someday," Max says.
"Thank you, Max. I think you will too," Vivi says.
Soon, Mew and Vicky are on the battlefield.
"Looks like we're up two to one. If we lose this one, it'll be a draw. Ma'am, even though we're doing this as a favor, a battle's a battle, and I plan to go all out and win!" Mew says.
Pikachu and Eevee agree.
Meanwhile, Vita has taken Team Rocket to his family home.
"So, this is your home, eh?" Jessie asks.
"Yep," Vito answers.
Meowth calls out, "Hello in dere! Anyone home? We got a surprise!"
But Vito shushes Meowth, "Shh!"
"I'll explain everything to your grandmama. You've got nothing to worry about," James says.
"I hope you're right," Vito says.
They peek inside but find nobody in.
"Doesn't look like anyone's home," Jessie says.
"Unless they're out working in the field," James says.
But Vito also says, "They're probably on the battlefield out back."
"Battlefield?" Team Rocket question.
Back at the battlefield.
Vicky says, "I, Vicky Winstrate, matriarch of the Winstrate Family and grandmother to Vito, future Pokémon league champion, shall be victorious this day!" As she ties a white bandana around her head)
"That's the spirit! And I, Ashley, future Pokémon master, declare that I will win!" Mew says.
As Mew calls out, "Team Rocket and Vito watch from afar.
"Is that your grandma down there?" James asks.
"That's her," Vito answers.
"Wouldn't want to run into her in a dark alley," Meowth says.
"What do you know? The twerps are down there, too," Jessie says.
"Alright, let's begin the final round. We have Vicky Winstrate vs Ashely! Choose your Pokémon and begin!" Jen calls out.
"Alright, then! Go, Camerupt!" Vicky says and calls out her Pokemon.
Camerupt comes out, and lands on the ground.
"Alright Eevee, let's go!" Mew calls out.
"Eevee!" (Yeah!) Eevee calls out and comes to the battlefield.
"Eevee! Let's start with Swift!" Mew calls out.
Soon, Eevee performs Swift Attack, but doesn't cause much damage.
"That Camerupt is tough," Mew says.
"Using Eevee might be good because Pikachu's thunder attacks can't work on it with it being a ground type as well as a fire type,"
"Quick Attack!" Mew calls out.
Soon, Eevee forward and lands the attack hard enough to knock Camerupt down.
"Get up! It didn't hit you that hard!" Vicky calls out, "Think of poor Vito! You've got to keep fighting and make him proud of you! What if he were watching you right now?"
Behind the rocks surrounding the battlefield, Vito sweat drops.
"I am watching, "Vito replies.
Victor, Victoria and Vivi cheers, "Hang in there, Camerupt! Good luck, Grandma!"
Camerupt gets back on its feet, surprising Mew and Eevee's surprise.
"Wow. It got up," Mew says.
"Yes! Now that's more like the fighting spirit of our Vito! I only wish he were here to see it," Vicky says.
Vito sweat drops again.
Vicky calls out, "Sandstorm attack, Camerupt!"
Camerupt blows air out of its nose to cause the Sandstorm to kick up, blinding not just Mew and Eevee but also some of the gang on the sidelines.
"Now hit em with Takedown, Camerupt!" Vicky calls out.
Camerupt charges.
"Hurry, use Iron Tail on it!" Mew calls out.
Eevee then performs the attack and it lands right in Camerupt's face, shocking the whole Winstrate Family
"Not in the face!" Vivi cries out.
"What do you mean, Vivi? There's nothing in the rules about that," Jen questions.
On the sidelines, Vito puts on a hardhat, "Well, I suggest you guys get underneath some cover before it's too late."
"Cover?" Team Rocket questions.
The Winstrate Family quickly put on hardhats as well.
"Better start running! Things are about to start getting really hot around here, kids!" Victoria calls out.
"Hot?" Max questions.
"Run from what?" May questions.
"What in the world are they talking about?" Tomo asks.
Soon, Mew grows wary, "I think they mean, THAT!"
They all see Camerupt's face turn bright red before smoke starts coming out of its volcano humps.
"It's a nasty habit a lot of Camerupt have," Vicky says, "For some reason, getting hit in the face causes them to become uncontrollably angry," and puts on a hardhat, "And after that, it's eruption time!"
Right on cue, Camerupts volcano humps eruptm, making everyone panic. Soon, fiery rocks fall from above.
"Run for it, guys!" Mew cries out.
Mew, Pikachu, and Eevee run for cover
May, Max, and Molyl cry out, "Look out! And run for cover.
Team Rocket ducks but they get hit by a fiery rock anyway.
"Hot?" Viito questions.
"Why, yes!" James not very happy.
"But your warning, very helpful!" Jessie says, upset.
"Good thing you had time to put on your hat!" Meowth says.
"I say we get out of here!" James says.
"Yeah!" Jessie and Meowth agree.
Then Team Rocket runs off.
Vito calls out, "Wait! You said you were going to talk to my grandma for me!"
"Let's just say we burned out on that idea!" James calls out.
Team Rocket runs into the distance as Vito sees Eevee being chased by Camerupt. Eevee cries out for help as Camerupt chases her. Camerupt chases Pikachu all over the battlefield.
"Hey, what's going on?! This isn't my idea of a battle!" Mew panics.
"I know, but that's my Camerupt. Once it starts, you can't make it stop," Vicky says.
"Oh great, I guess I'll have to find a way to stop it," Mew says.
Camerupt continues to chase down Eevee.
Seeing it, Vito says in concern, "This is bad! I'm going to have to help out here!"
Eevee soon falls off the battlefield while Camerupt, still in an uncontrollable rampaging charge, stampedes straight for the Winstrate family house.
"Now it's headed straight for the house!" Victoria cries out.
"It must be so angry that it's got no idea what it's doing!" Jen says, worried.
"It'll do more than wreck the house, it'll ruin all our crops!" Victor cries out and faints.
"Pull yourself together, Victor!" Vicky panics.
While everyone checks on Victor, Vito looks on from behind a rock.
"Come on! We got to stop Camerupt!" Mew says.
"Right!" Everyone agrees/
Camerupt approaches the crops.
"It's going too fast!" Mew says.
"We're not going to stop it in time!" Brock says.
Soon, Viro has enough, "Alright, then!" and calls out his Pokemon, "Help me out, Alakazam!"
And Alakazam comes out of the Pokeball.
Vito then calls out, "Rain Dance, now!"
Alakazam creates a blue ball of energy and sends it up to the sky, causing clouds to roll in and rain. That catches everyone's attention. The rain comes down on Camerupt and causes its volcano humps to stop smoking and become dormant again, snapping it out of its confusion just in time, only for it to start eating the hedge wall surrounding the crops.
"Camerupt stopped," May says.
"It's calm now," Molly says.
"I guess this rain calmed it down and put out its fire," Brock says.
"But where did it come from?" Mew wonders.
Vito turns to Alakazam, "That was great. Good job."
"Alakazam." (Thank you, Vito.) Alakazam says.
Soon, the rain stops.
"That was close. That rainstorm came in just in time," Vito says.
"Although we didn't finish, I'll concede the battle to you, Ashley," Vicky says.
"That's okay," Mew says.
"Yeah. We're just glad your crops are safe.
Vito looks around, "I wonder, where those three strangers I met ran off to," And looks up and spots their balloon, "There they are!"
Up in the balloon, Team Rocket is ready to strike.
"Just when you think that the sky had cleared up…" Jessie says.
"There's another storm blowing in!" James says.
"It's called Hurricane Handover!" Meowth says.
As Meowth talks, he extends the mechanical hand he's holding and grabs Pikachu and Eevee.
"Hey!" Brock cries out.
"Pikachu! Eevee!" Mew calls out.
"Look! It's them!" Molly calls out.
And with that, Team Rocket begins their motto.
Jessie:
Prepare for trouble from a bad weather balloon!
James:
Make it double and make it soon!
Jessie:
To protect the world from devastation!
James:
To unite all peoples within our nation!
Jessie:
To denounce the evils of truth and love!
James:
To extend our reach to the stars above!
Jessie:

Team Rocket, blast off at the speed of light!
James:
Surrender now, or prepare to fight, fight, fight!
Meowth:
You got dat right!
Wobbuffet:
Woooobuffet! (Thaaaat's a wrap!)
"Team Rocket! You better let Pikachu and Eevee go!" Mew shouts.
"I guess I was wrong about them," Vito replies.
Pikachu and Eevee try to shock his way free, but to no avail as Jessie and James laugh.
"Save it, you twos, dis hand is made from rubber!" Meowth says.
"Who would've guessed that we would successfully capture Pikachu and Eevee out here in the boonies?" Jessie says.
"Indeed. We owe it all to that poor, pathetic Vito fellow," James says.
The mention of Vito's name strikes a chord with the Winstrates
"Vito?" Vicky questions.
"We'd love to stay, but we're not going to!" Meowth says.
"Come back here! Give Pikachu and Eevee back!" Mew shouts and chases after them.
"I shoulda known those guys were criminals the first time. But instead, I led them here and caused all this," Vito says. "Time to fix this! Alakazam, Psychic!
Several waves of psychic energy fly up to the mechanical hand and destroy it, to Team Rocket's shock, while Pikachu and Eevee gently float to the ground.
"Pikachu! Eevee!" Mew says, relieved, and catches them both in her arms, "I got you, guys."
Pikachu and Eevee are happy to see Mew
Suddenly, Jessie shouts, "Hey, twerp! We just stole that!"
"And we can't have you making us look bad, so there's only one thing to do!" James says.
"Steal them again!" Meowth says and laughs as he activates another mechanical arm from beneath the balloon.
"Look out!" May cries out.
Soon, Vito says, "Oh, no you don't! Swellow, use Wing Attack!"
Swellow comes out, its wings start glowing, and it cuts a massive rip in Team Rocket's balloon, causing them to panic.
"A Swellow!" Vicky calls out in shock.
The Swellow comes back around and slashes the burner with its attack.
Meowth meekly says, "This is going to sting a little."
The balloon soon blows up, sending Team Rocket flying.
"I thought for sure things would go right this time!" Jessie says.
"Whatever gave you that idea?" James says.
"Maybe we're stuck in a rut?" Meowth says.
"Team Rocket's blasting off again!" Team Rocket cries out.
"Oh, man. That was close," Mew says.
"Where'd the Swellow come from?" Max asks.
"I have a pretty good idea," Vicky says.
Everyone turns to Vicky.
"You do?" Tomo asks.
Vicky nods, "Someone with a gentle spirit was helping us out. Someone who owned that Swellow."
Vito, who was petting Swellow after it landed, overhears.
"She knows it's me," Vito says.
Vicky then says, "Vito's a gentle child who doesn't really like competing with others. I never should've pushed him to attempt to become a Pokémon league champion. I believe he's nearby, so if he can hear my voice, I'd tell him that I only wanted what was best for him, and I'd also tell him; 'if, on this journey of yours, you discover what you really love, then that's what you should go after with all your heart'.
Vito was surprised and touched, "Oh, grandma."
And Vicky says, "'There's nothing wrong with chasing your dreams. After all, we only have but one life to live, so chase after your dream as fast as you can. Just know, whatever you do, your family is behind you.'"
"Awesome!" The group says.
Vicky chuckles, "Oh, grandma. Thank you."
Later, the sun was setting as Vito was seen leaving his home behind once again.
"Too bad I have to leave without seeing anyone. But the next time I come back; I know my dreams will have come true," Vito says, and continues on.
Meanwhile, Mew and the others are ready to hit the road.
"It was great to spend the day here with you," Mew says.
"Well, then, we have to give a proper sendoff, don't we? Camerupt, let's give them a big farewell. Eruption," Vicky says.
As Vicky orders for the eruption, the Winstrate family put on their hardhats before Camerupt bellows, frightening Mew and her friends.
The group cries out, "Not that!" And runs away in fear.
