Episode 59: Electrifying and Graceful in Lumina City
Having finally reached Lumina City, Mew and her friends have reached the Concert Hall for Mew's next Pokemon Contest. The group soon arrives at the front desk of the concert hall.
"Hello, I'm here to enter the Pokemon Contest," Mew says.
"Okay, may I see your pass," The receptionist says.
Mew then brings out her pass, "Here you go."
The receptionist takes the pass, scans it, and presents it back to Mew.
"Here you go, Ashley," The receptionist says, "Good luck at the Lumina Pokemon Contest."
"Thank you," Mew says, and takes her pass.
"The contest will be on tomorrow afternoon," The receptionist says.
"Okay, thank you for letting me know," Mew says.
And with that, Mew and her friends leave the contest hall and see the many different coordinates who are practicing for tomorrow's contest.
"Looks like you have some tough competition tomorrow," Brock says.
"I'm actually kind of excited. I have never been to a Pokemon Contest before," Zinnia says.
"Really? You've never been to one before," May asks.
"No. I really care a lot about Pokemon Contests. I don't mind watching you and this contest though," Zinnia says.
"So this will be the first Pokemon Contest for you too," Molly replies.
"Yeah. I'm actually excited to see how Pokemon Coordinators perform in Pokemon Contests," Zinnia says.
"I can't wait to see tomorrow's contest," Jen says.
"So what do we do first?" Tomo asks.
"Well, since we're here, it will be a good opportunity to go do some shopping and gather some supplies, since we got quite a way," Brock says.
"That's true, we'll need to get supplies and medical stuff," Mew says.
Then says, "But I should practice with Florges some more before tomorrow."
"That's a good idea," Max says.
"Pika Pika," (I think it's best to practice) Pikachu says.
"Eevee Eevee," (Yeah. The contest is tomorrow) Eevee says.
"Yeah. I think I'm going to head out and practice with Florges," Mew says.
"I can help if you want," May says.
"Thanks May," Mew says. Then turns to the others, "Anyone one else want to come?"
"I want to see," Molly says.
"Me too," Tomo says.
"Then the rest of us will do some shopping for supplies," Brock says.
"Okay. See you all later," Mew says, and take their leave.
"Bye," May, Molly, and Tomo say, following.
And with that, the group takes their leave so Mew can do more practice for her contest. Brock and the rest of the gang head off into town to get some new supplies.
Meanwhile, near the contest hall, Team Rocket has their own plans. In fact, Jessie is practicing for the Contest as well with her Seviper.
Jessie tosses some apples, "Alright Seviper, use Poison Tail."
Withthat, Seviper uses its attack and cuts the apples into multiple slices. Then Jessie catches it with a plate.
"Aha!" Jessie with confidence, "That is the perfect Seviper. I'll be sure to win this contest."
"I hope it will be better than the last time," James says.
"Yeah," Meowth says, "Don't forget, the twerpette with Pikachu and Eevee is going to be in the contest as well."
"We can use it to our advantage and capture Pikachu and Eevee," James says.
"Well, I'm more interested in winning that contest, and I'll be sure to beat that little twerpette," Jessie says.
"Just remember that there might be other coordinators you need to worry about besides the kid with the Pikachu and Eevee," James says.
Meowth sighs, "Let's hope it won't happen like the last contest."
"Oh we'll be sure to do better, and finally win a ribbon," Jessie says.
Then turns to Seviper, "For now, it's time for a snack break," And presents the plate of sliced apples, "And there are plenty of apples to go around."
Seviper nods and is happy to have a snack.
Meanwhile, Mew and her friends find a wide open area a short distance from the Contest Hall. May and the others are sitting nearby and waiting to see Mew bringing out her Pokeball.
"Alright Florges, time to take the stage," Mew says and throws her Pokeball.
And with that, Florges comes out, and ends up releasing petals that scatter around her.
"Wow. That looks great," May says.
"So pretty," Molly says.
"What kind of attack is that?" Tomo asks.
"Well, it's called Flower Veil. It's more like a defense ability that Flabébé and their evolved form can use. Other than then, Comfey is the only other Pokemon that can use that ability," Mew says.
"That's neat," May says.
"Yeah," Molly agrees.
"Alright Florges, let's do your Petal Dance." Mew calls out.
And with that, Florges begins with Petal Dance and more petals scatter around.
Then Mew calls out, "And now, use Magical Leaf!"
And with that, Florges performs Magical Leaf, mixing the leaves with the petals.
"Now, Fairy Wind!" Mew calls out.
Florges performs the attack and everywhere in the area begins to circle around Floreges.
"And now, finish it off with…" but before Mew can finish, a Thunderbolt Attack comes out of nowhere.
To everyone's shock, it hits the center of the Grass Attacks, the electric attack cause them to scatter around with electric sparkles falling as well. This shocked everyone.
"Huh? Where did that Thunderbolt come from?" Mew wonders.
Soon, something lands in front of them. To the group's shock, they see a Jolteon standing right in front of them.
"It's a Jolteon," Tomo says.
"So that's one of Eevee's evolved forms," May says, and brings out her Pokedex.
Dextette says, "Joleton, the Lightning Pokemon. An Electric Type. Jolteon's cells generate a low level of electricity. This power is amplified by the static electricity of its fur, enabling the Pokémon to drop thunderbolts. The bristling fur is made of electrically charged needles."
"It sure looks strong," May says.
"Yes, but where did that Jolteon come from?" Mew asks.
"From me," A voice says.
The group turns to see a young woman approaching Jolteon from behind. From the looks of her age, she seems to be around the same age as Mew. She has tan skin, spiky yellow hair, and blue eyes. She is wearing an amber yellow headband around her head. She also wears a black t-shirt with a thunderbolt on it, and blur shorts. She also appears to be wearing red sneakers. Along with her are a Flaaffy, a Pichu, and an Electrode.
The girl smirks, "Sorry for interfering with your little flower dance, but I thought you could use some spark with that girlish performance."
Mew shouts, "Hey, don't you know it's rude to interfere with people and pokemon's training! And it's also very dangerous!"
"Oh don't worry about it. I just want to give you all a bit of a spark," The girl says, with a confident grin.
May then asks, confused, "Who are you supposed to be anyway?"
"My name's Mika. I'm a Pokemon Trainer and Coordinator," The girl, Mika says.
"Um, it's nice to meet you. I'm Ashley. And these are my partners, Pikachu and Eevee."
"Nice to meet you, I'm May," May says.
"I'm Molly," Molly says.
"I'm Tomo, and these are my partners, Meloetta and Skwovet," Tomo says.
"Truth is, Ashley and I are coordinators too," May says.
"Really? That's pretty cool," Mika says.
She then asks, "So, how many ribbons did you get?"
"Well, I've just got my first ribbon," May says.
"And so far, I only got one," Mew says.
Then May asks, "How many ribbons do you have?"
"I got two ribbons so far, and I plan to get my third one. After this contest, I plan to head to Lavaridge Town for my gym battle," Mika says, energetic.
"Gym battle? Are you planning to get badges too?" Tomo asks.
Mika grins and nods, "That's right. When I started my journey. I can't decide on doing gym battles or contests. And so, I've decided to do both."
"Wow. Just like you, Ashley," Molly says.
"Oh so you're earning badges as well?" Mika asks.
"Yeah. I've just earned my Heat Badge from the Lavaridge Gym," Mew says.
"That's cool," Mika says, excited.
She then asks, "So, how many badges do you have?"
"So far, I've got four of them," Mew says.
"Aww, I only got two of them, but I don't plan to fall behind," Mika says.
"You sure are energetic," May says.
"Yeah. You have a lot of spark," Tomo says.
"Thanks. In fact, me and my Electric Pokemon have a lot of spark in us," Mika says.
"Oh, so you raise Electric Pokemon?" Molly asks.
"Sure do. I just love Electric Type Pokemon," Mika says, "I even have Electric Types who are also Duel Types.
"Wow. You must really love Electric Types," Mew says.
"Sure am, but let's get one thing straight. I do like making friends and rivals, but don't expect me to go easy on you for tomorrow's contest," Mika says, sounding determined.
"Don't worry, I don't plan on going easy on you either," Mika says, sounding determined.
"Well, I'm not entering this one because I've just got my ribbon, but maybe the next one," May says.
"No sweat. Gotta take a break, and think of new performances," Mika says.
Then turns to her Pokemon, "Come on guys, let's go."
Then turns to Mew and the others, "See you all around."
And with that, Mika runs off with her Electric Pokemon so they can practice some more.
"Well, that girl sure is energetic," Mew says.
"I have to agree," May says.
Tomo laughs, "She's cool."
Meanwhile, Brock and the rest of the group have just left the store and have the supplies in shopping bags and their backpacks.
"You think we got everything?" Max asks.
"I think we do. We got supplies, medicine, ingredients, and of course plenty of food for the Pokemon," Jen says.
"And a lot of it for our large group," Brock says.
Zinnia chuckles, "That's true."
"I wonder how the others are doing?" Jen asks.
"I'm sure Mew is doing well with contest moves, and trying to come up with some combinations for her battle," Max says.
Back at the open area, Mew and Florges are doing a contest battle with May along with Torchic.
May calls out, "Tochic, use Ember!"
Torchic fires the attack.
Then Mew calls out, "Florges, use Swift!"
Florges uses Swift and it counters with the Ember Attack. The Ember hitting the Swift Attack causes explosions and red and yellow sparkles appear. Some of the Swift Attack passes and hit Torchic. Torchic is sent flying, but is able to land on its feet.
"Nice landing, Torchic," May says. Then calls out, "Now, use Quick Attack!"
Torchic performs Quick Attack and speed around Florges.
"Florges, stay where you are," Mew calls out.
Florges does just that.
"I wonder what Mew's doing?" Molly asks.
"I don't know," Tomo says, "She might have a plan."
Then May calls out, "Now, use Peck!"
Torchic charges for Florges for the attack.
But Mew then calls out, "Petal Dance!"
And with that, Florges performed Petal Dance and hit Torchic with full force."
"Torchic!" May cries out.
Torchic falls and hits the ground. Soon, Torchic is knocked out.
"Well, looks like that's that," Mew says.
"Yeah," May says and picks Torchic, "You okay, Torchic."
"Tor tor," (I'm okay, just dizzy.) Torchic answers.
Mew giggles, "Torchic says he's okay, just a bit dizzy from the Petal Dance."
"Yeah. I remember Max telling me that Grass Types are usually weak against Flying Types and Attacks, but that doesn't really bother you much," May says.
"Well May, the truth is it's important to think of attack strategies and use types to get the advantage. However, there are some cases where that rule doesn't apply. I learned that when I first started on my journey, and learned that type advantages aren't always enough. I've learned that when I do my Gym Battles, and that you need to think on your feet, you need to think of a new move every time you're in battle. Even though you became at a disadvantage," Mew says.
"And I'm guessing it's the same for Pokemon Contests. When you think you're at an advantage, your opponent proves otherwise. Remember the contest battle with Drew and Grace," May says.
"You're right. Drew is strong, but Grace was able to turn everything around," Tomo says.
Molly then says, "Of course, May was able to face Grace, even though the odds were against her at first." Then turns to May, "And you won your first ribbon."
"You're right," May says, "I sure have a lot to learn about battling."
"You'll get it in no time, May. After all, you're with more experienced trainers," Mew says.
"That's right," May says with a nod.
"So what do we do now?" Tomo asks.
Mew sighs and stretches her arms, "Well, I think we got a good amount of practice."
"Yeah. I think we've been practicing for hours," May says.
"But you and Florges are doing great. You have a great chance of winning tomorrow," Tomo says.
"Thanks Tomo, but I have to remember there are other Coordinators, including Mika," Mew says.
Mew turns to Florges, "Are you ready for tomorrow, girl?"
"Flor Florges," (Of course, I'm ready.) Florges says with a nod.
"I am ready to. I'm ready to give it my all, and plan to win my next ribbon," Mew says.
"You're not the only one who is planning to win this contest. I plan to as well," Another voice, almost like a young man says.
The group turns and to their surprise sees a woman, who looks older than Brock, like a young adult. The woman has cyan blue hair with curls on the bottom, fair skin, and purple eyes. She is wearing a long sleeve pink blouse with a white flower on the side, along with a white elegant skirt, and white slip on shoes. She is also holding a purse.
She is accompanied by two Pokemon.
One of them is a bipedal, humanoid Pokémon. Its body is mostly black with a purple face and hands. Its main body is covered in a black "dress" which consists of four segments, and each one has a white bow on the front. There is also a white bow on its head. Around its wrists are white and disc-like. Its head has four "hair" on each side of its head, and it has round, blue, half-closed eyes and a mouth consisting of two red lips.
The second is a small rodent-based Pokémon that resembles a chinchilla. Its fur is mainly gray, and it has very fluffy and pure silky white tufts of fur encircling its ears and head, wrapped around its neck like a collar, and covering its very long voluminous tails. Its long, silky white tails wrap around its body like a scarf. It has short, small paws and feet, and paw pads on the undersides on its fore-paws and feet. It has large, round ears with pink insides and fluffy tufts on the outsides. It has with ovular brownish eyes and a tiny nose and mouth.
"Um hello, and who might you be?" Mew asks.
"My name is Giselle, I'm a Pokemon Coordinator. I originated from Virbank City in the Unova Region," The young woman says.
"Unova, huh," Mee responds, "My name is Ashley, I'm from Pallet Town in the Kanto Region. This is my friends, May, Tomo, and Molly."
"Hello," The kids reply.
"And these are my partners, Pikachu, and Eevee, and Florges," Mew adds
"Charmed," The woman, Giselle says. Then turns to her Pokemon, "And these are my Pokemon, Gothitelle and Cinccino."
"I've never seen them before," May says, bringing out her Pokedex.
Mew brings out her Pokedex, "Well, they both originated from the Unova Region, so it's rare to be seeing them here."
The Dextette from May's Pokedex says, "Gothitelle, the Astral Body Pokémon. A Psychic Type. It has tremendous psychic power, but it dislikes conflict. It's also able to predict the future based on the movement of the stars."
The Dextette from Mew's Pokedex says, "Cinccino, the Scarf Pokemon. A Normal Type. Cinccino's body is coated in a special oil that helps it deflect attacks, such as punches. Their white fur feels amazing to touch. Their fur repels dust and prevents static electricity from building up."
"They both look really pretty," Molly says.
"And look pretty strong," Tomo says.
"Thank you," Giselle says.
"So I have to assume you're here for the Lumina City Pokemon Contest," Mew says.
"You are correct, and I suspect you were as well. I've seen both of you perform at the previous contests," Giselle says. Then turns to May, "Of course, it's clear that the young girl with the bandana still has a lot to learn, still a rookie, and needs to work on her battle and performances," Giselle says.
May frowns and puffs her cheeks in response.
Then Giselle turns to Mew, "As for you, young lady. You seem pretty new to being a coordinator, but you seem pretty skilled. However, there are points that I can tell that you're very experienced with Pokemon Battles like those at a gym. And you still managed to give off performances."
"Um thank you," Mew says.
"However, let me give you some important advice. You must be sure to make sure your power has more elegance than power as you battle. I can tell you have potential to be a Coordinator, but still trouble when battling using the beauty of attacks. Make sure to keep that in mind. You are able to do gym battles and contests, but remember that you will need to keep them apart," Giselle says.
"Um yes. I'll be sure to keep it in mind," Mew says.
"Good," Giselle says. She then smirks, "However, understand that I don't plan to lose to a rookie, even though you are experienced. That I'll have to say."
"And then the same can be said about you, Mika.
The group soon notices that Mika is standing by, and has a bit of a frown on her face.
"Your wild energy along with the electrical sparks help bring out your Electric Pokemon, but too much and you'll get burned out," Giselle says, "Well then Ashley. Mika. May the best coordinator win. Although, I don't plan on losing."
And with that, Giselle and her Pokemon leave the scene.
Mika walks over, "She sure seems full of herself."
"No kidding," May says.
"Yes, but she seems well experienced," Mew says.
"She actually is," Mika says.
The group turns to Mika.
"I've seen her on television. The truth is, she's a really good Coordinator, and actually won the Grand Festival in the Unova Region," Mika says.
"So she's that good," May says.
"Yesh, and she certainly can tell the kind of people she battles against based on her observation," Mika says.
"I see," Mew says.
She then sighs, "Come on guys, let's go to the Pokemon Center. That's where we're meeting the others."
"Yeah. I'm starting to get hungry," Tomo says.
"Me too," Molly says.
"Yeah. Me too," May says.
"Well then, we can grab something to eat while we're there," Mew says.
"Mind if I come. I'm staying at the Pokemon Center until the contest tomorrow, and I could go for a bite myself," Mika says.
"Great. Then we can head to the Pokemon Center together," May says.
"Come on guys, let's head back," Mew says.
And with that, the group begin making their way to the Pokemon Center.
Unknown to the group, Team Rocket is spying on them from a distance.
"Well, that Giselle girl sure is full of herself," Jessie says.
"Yes, but she will be hard competition considering she won Pokemon Contests before," James says.
"Yeah. And that energetic one sure has Electric Types," Mewoth says.
Jessie angrily says, "I don't care. I'll be sure to beat them tomorrow too, especially since I've got a secret weapon to be sure that I win."
"Secret Weapon?" James questions.
"What are you planning to do?" Meowth asks.
"You mean what we're going to do," Jessie says.
"Are you sure it's a good idea?" James asks.
"Yeah. Last time didn't work very well for us," Meowth says.
"Well this one is better," Jessie says.
James and Meowth sweat drops, and have a bad feeling about it.
Meanwhile, Giselle is actually making her way back to the Pokemon Center as well. However, after discussing with Mew and her friends, Giselle also notices something as well.
"Well Ashley, or should I say Mew, I'm glad to have finally met you. I knew I recognized the style and your communication with your Pokemon," Giselle says to herself, "And… I'm glad to finally see you again… Hanako, after all these years…"
Sometime later, Mew and the others walk into the Pokemon Center, where they meet Brock and the rest of the group, and are now having dinner. Of course, Mika is with them as well.
"So how was your contest training," Brock asks.
"It went really well," Mew says.
"And it's very nice to meet you, Mika," Max says.
"It's nice to meet you and the rest of the gang," Mika says.
"Yeah. I'm interested to know what your performance is tomorrow," Jen says.
"And it's cool that you're also doing gym battles," Max says.
"Yeah. I hope I'll see you in the Hoenn Region," Mew says.
"You sure will, and I don't plan to lose either," Mika says.
"You know it. But first, we should focus on the contest tomorrow," Mew says.
"Yeah. I get carried away at times," Mika says.
And soon everyone begins laughing.
And it's clear that tomorrow's contest is going to be an interesting one. Mew has two new rivals, Mika, an Electric Type Trainer with a wild personality. Along with Giselle, a Grand Festival Winner from the Unova Region, and appears to know about Mew's identity, and Mew's original name. Wonder what tomorrow's Pokemon Contest is going to bring.
