Episode 81: Me, Myself, and Time
One day, Mew and her friends find themselves on a mountain on a misty day. The mountain is called Kirikiri Mountain, and it's well known for misty fog. Mew and her friends plan to use the place as a shortcut to get to Fortree City. However, with the misty fog, they might have ended up losing their way. However, Brock, May Max, and Zinnia find themselves separated from Mew, Tomo, Jen, and Molly.
"Mew, make sure you and the others don't get far behind or we'll lose you," Brock says.
However, they can't see Mew and the others.
"I'm starting to think this shortcut is a bad idea," May says.
"Yeah. It's so foggy here," Zinnia says.
"I think we would've made better time going around the mountain," Max says.
Meanwhile, Team Rocket are wondering around the misty fog of the mountain as well.
"What a mess!" Meowth says.
Jessie asks, "How'd we manage to get ourselves stuck out here, anyway?"
"I don't know, I'm a little foggy on that," James says.
Meowth shouts, "IT'S CAUSE OF YOU TWOIPS DAT WE'RE OUT HERE!
Jessie quickly covers Meowth's mouth, shushes him, "Keep that up or we'll never find them," And removes her hands.
Meowth: Oh," Meowth says.
Then Jessie points right, "They're that way."
"Yeah? And how do you know that?" James asks.
"Woman's intuition, something like psychic power," Jessie says.
"What?!" The boys exclaim.
Meanwhile, Mew, Tomo, Jen, and Molly are wandering through the fog and have gotten separated from the others.
Mew calls out, "May! Max!"
"Brock! Zinnia!" Tomo calls out.
"Where are you?!" Jen calls out.
"I can't see a thing," Molly says.
"I know. This is thick as soup," Mew says.
"Where did everyone go?" Mew asks.
"I don't know, but I can't see anything," Jen says.
"Yeah, not even our FEEEEET!" Tomo says and lets out a cry as he slips down a slope, with the others not far behind.
"Tomo!" The girls cry out.
Then the gang slid down after Tomo, Meloetta, and Skwovet.
Moments later, everyone soon comes to a stop and falls to the ground.
"Well, that hurts," Tomo says.
"No kidding," Jen says.
"Everyone, okay?" Mew asks.
The group answer that they're okay
Suddenly, they begin to hear someone singing.
Mew shushes, "Guys, do you hear that?"
Everyone continues to hear the voice.
"Is someone singing?" Molly whispers.
"Let's check it out," Jen says.
The group stands up and follow the voice to a tree where they see, once the fog clears, a woman inside the old tree doing the singing before the fog thickens up again and the woman seemingly disappears.
"Hey! Where'd she go?" Tomo asks.
"I don't know," Jen says.
"That was weird," Tomo says.
"And scary," Molly says.
"Well, it's best we go find the others, and quick," Mew says.
Everyone agrees and heads off, trying to call the others as the woman from earlier watches them depart and disappear into the fog before she starts singing again before she disappears once more.
Meanwhile, with the rest of the group, the fog lifts.
"Hey finally, the fog is lifting up a bit," Brock says.
Then May turns around, "So Mew, you and the others hungry for lunch?"
But when May looks back, she finds that Mew and the others are gone.
"I don't see Mew, Pikachu, and Eevee anywhere!" May says.
"Jen and Amaura are gone too," Max says.
"So are Tomo, Meloetta, and Skwovet," Brock says.
"And Molly," Zinnia says.
"We must have got separated from them in the fog.
"We have to go back and find them!" Mew says.
May calls out, "Mew! Pikachu! Eevee!"
"Tomo! Meloetta! Skowvet!" Brock calls out.
"Jen! Amaura! Molly!" Zinna calls out.
"Can you guys hear us?!" Max calls out.
Meanwhile, Mew and her friends come just inches away from walking off a cliff. Luckily, they stop.
"Whoa, that was close," Mew says.
"Now it's clear that we're all lost," Jen says.
Amaura nods in agreement.
"Where could they be?" Tomo questions.
"Loetta," (And where are we?)" Melietta says.
"Good point," Tomo says.
Just then, they hear a sound coming from behind them. When they turn around, they look back, they see a small figure spinning in the mist.
"What's that?" Tomo asks.
The figure soon comes closer.
Mew squints and says, "It looks like a Pokemon," then gets out her Pokedex, "Let's see."
When she points it at the figure, Dextette says, "Baltoy, the Clay Doll Pokémon. A Ground and Psychic Type. Baltoy moves about while spinning like a top, it is said that Baltoy coexisted with humans in ancient times."
Baltoy is a small Pokémon that resembles a tan figurine made out of clay or mud. There are arching, red markings over its eyes, which usually appear closed. A red stripe encircles its body and forms a ring on its belly. It has flat appendages that resemble arms. A spike protrudes from the top of its head and another, smaller spike under its body acts as its foot."
Molly sees where Baltoy is heading to, "Oh, no! It's gonna spin right off the cliff!"
Mew says, "Baltoy is a Ground Type so Electric Types won't work."
Then says to Pikachu, "Pikachu, use Quick Attack!"
Pikachu darts in and manages to bring Baltoy to a stop.
"Perfect. Great job, Pikachu," Mew says.
"Pikachu." (Thank you, bud.) Pikachu says.
Amaura says, "Amaura," (That was close.)
Suddenly, they hear a voice, "There you are, Baltoy!"
The group sees a little girl running up to the Baltoy. The girl has reddish hair in pigtails. She wears a blue dress with a white shirt underneath with a pink lace around the sleeve wrists, and wears a pink bow tie around the collar. A green bracelet. She wears a yellow backpack. She also wears white socks and dark red shoes.
The girl reaches to the Pokemon and asks, "Are you okay?"
"Baltoy," (I'm good.) Baltoy answers.
"Thank goodness," The girl says.
Mew then asks, "Excuse me, is that your Pokemon?"
The girl turns to see Mew and the others, "Yeah, what do you all think you were doing to it, huh?"
"We were trying to stop it from going over the cliff," Jen says.
"Huh? What cliff?" The girl asks.
Tomo walks to the girl and points ahead, "That one."
The girl turns to see the cliff at her right. She panics and hugs her Baltoy.
"Hey, everything's okay, now," Mew says.
"You're right. I'm sorry. I should've have gotten angry with you guys," The girl says.
"That's okay. We cleared up that misunderstanding," Mew says.
The girl then introduces herself, "My name's Callista, and this is my Baltoy."
"I'm Ashley, and these are my pals, Pikachu and Eevee," Mew says.
"I'm Tomo, and these are Meloetta and Skwovet," Tomo says.
"I'm Jen, and this is my partner, Amaura," Jen says.
"And I'm Molly. It's nice to meet you, Callista," Molly says.
Meanwhile, Team Rocket was sliding down the same slope our heroes went down before they came to a stop.
"I'm lucky I've got nine lives," Meowth says.
"Next time you have a psychic moment, keep it to yourself," James says.
"Now where, Madam Jessie?" Meowth asks.
"We go right, I heard a familiar cry," Jessie says.
James and Meowth look in the same direction.
"And I know that cry anyway. It has to be Pikachu," Jessie says.
Meanwhile, Callista was explaining what she was doing out and about with Baltoy.
"We were searching for ancient artifacts, then when the fog got so thick, I couldn't see a thing, so I asked Baltoy to find us a way out of here," Callista says.
As Callista talks, Pikachu, Skowvet and Amaura make Baltoy wobble a bit. Eevee and Meloetta relax a bit.
"Wow! So there are supposed to be ancient artifacts around here?" Tomo asks.
"Yeah," Callista says and brings out the book, "This book says so. It says there's supposed to be tons of old ruins around the area of Kilikili Mountain which holds the most valuable artifacts in the whole universe."
"The whole universe?" Jen asks, amazed.
"That's cool!" Tomo says.
"And then, once we get our hands on these artifacts, they'll tell us about an ancient civilization. Finding those artifacts is my dream.
"Sounds exciting," Molly says.
"I'm hoping that some day I become an archaeologist. But sadly, that probably won't happen," Callista says.
"Why not?" Tomo asks.
Callista then explains, "Because my parents don't want me to be an archeologist. They want me to go be a doctor like them. One day, when they found the box of samples I had collected. They got all mad at me. They got so mad that they threw them all away. But they had no idea I still have this book. And then one day, there was a phone call.
Flashing back, Callista answers the phone and a voice comes out, "Please, you must come and help me. You have to come to the Kirikiri Mountain ruins with your Baltoy."
"But why, ma'am?" Callista asks.
The woman says, "The articles in that beloved book of yours are true! And it will take the combined abilities of both you and your Baltoy to find that which you seek so earnestly. I beg you, Callista! Please, come help me!'"
Flashback ends.
"So I snuck out of the house, without my parents knowing, of course," Callista says.
"I understand why. What your parents did is not right, especially if it's not what you want," Mew says, "You should follow your passion and dreams and what makes you happy."
"Thanks," Callista says.
Then Molly asks, "So, Callista, any idea where those ruins might be?"
"Yes. You see, there's a song in my book," Callista says.
"A song?" Jen asks.
"Yeah," Callista says. She opens the book and sings the lyrics within the pages.
The group continues to listen until Molly sings the lyrics and Mew brings out her Pokeflute and plays the lyrics.
This catches Callista by surprise, "Wait, how do you both know the song?"
"That's the strange thing, a woman was singing that melody before we met you in a hollow tree," Mew says.
"And she was singing the exact song," Molly says.
"Hey you're right," Tomo says.
"It's strange how she knows the song and melody too," Jen says.
Mew thinks and says, "Hmm, I'm not sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if the woman who called Callista and the woman we saw were the same person."
"My thoughts exactly, Ashley! And I think the song is the key to entering the Kirikiri mountain ruins," Callista says. She then asks, "Do you and your friends remember exactly where you saw her?"
"Yeah, it's back the way we came. If you want, we can take you," Mew says.
Callista says, "You mean you'll come along with me?"
Everyone else stands.
"Yeah," Mew says.
"And we kind of have our fair share of entering ancient places," Jen says.
"And it sounds like an adventure," Tomo says.
"And it's really exciting," Molly says.
Thank you, that's so nice of you all," Callista says.
Little do Mew and the others know, Team Rocket have been listening to them from behind the rocks.
"Did you boys hear that? They're on their way to find the most valuable treasure in the whole universe! Imagine what treasure that could be!" Jessie says.
"The kind which we give as a present to the boss, man?" Meowth says.
"Brilliant!" James says.
Team Rocket chants, "That's big time promotion with a big corner office!"
"Wobbuffet!" ( And Big bucks!) Wobbuffet says.
"Now, the sneaky part, we let the twerps and their new twerpy friend lead us most of the way to these ruins and then…"
"We swoop in and swipe the valuable treasure right from under their nose!" James says.
"Right! De old swoop and swipe plan!"
"Wobbuffet!" (Let's go!) Wobbuffet says.
As Team Rocket puts their plan into action.
Meanwhile, the woman Mew and the others have seen earlier is still sitting in the hollow tree, singing the same song. However, Team Rocket appears.
Jessie demands, "Alright, lady, you can give it a rest. Where's the treasure?"
"I don't believe my song is meant for you," The cloaked woman says.
The fog lifts to reveal Team Rocket.
Jessie:
Then prepare for trouble let us sing you our song.
James:
Make it double if you care to sing along.
And they actually begin to sing.
Jessie:
To protect the world from devastation!
James:
To unite all peoples within our nation!
Jessie:
To denounce the evils of truth and love!
James:
To extend our reach to the stars above!
Jessie:
Jessie!
James:
And James!
Jessie:
Team Rocket blasts off at the speed of light
James:
Surrender now or prepare to fight, fight, and fight
Meowth:
And Meowth, dat's right!
Wobbuffet:
Wobbuffet! (End of song!)
"What is it you want from me?" The woman questions.
Jessie says, "Prepare for trouble, you know what we want."
And Meowth says, "Hey, we did the motto already."
"Oh right," Jessie says.
Then turns to the woman, "We demand to be told the whereabouts of the most valuable treasure in the universe."
The woman refuses, "No!"
"Then we'll just have to force it out of you!" James says and calls out, "Cacnea, let's go!"
Cacnea comes out, but ends up hugging James instead.
James cries out, "Would you mind getting your pins out of me?!"
"Seviper, let's go!" Jessie says.
Seviper then comes out.
The woman then calls out, "Xatu, help me out."
Xatu comes out.
James calls out, "Cacnea, Pin Missile, now!"
Cacnea fires the attack.
The woman calls out, "Xatu, Reflect!"
Xatu creates a barrier wall to protect itself.
Meanwhile, Mew and the others end up hearing the battle.
"What was that?" Callista asks.
"Sounds like a battle is going on," Tomo says.
"Let's go see," Mew says.
Soon, Mew and the others make their way to the battle.
Back to the battle, the woman calls out, "Xatu, Teleport!"
Xatu disappears and reappears in between Jessie and James.
The woman then calls out, "Now use Peck!"
Xatu proceeds to peck Cacnea just as Callista, Mew, and the others show up.
"Guys, look there!" Jen says.
"It's Team Rocket!" Mew says.
"They're here too!" Tomo cays.
"And they're bothering that woman!" Molly adds.
"Stop that! Stop that right now!" Callista calls out.
Team Rocket notices them, "It's the twerps!"
Jessie says, "Don't go barking at us, we're the ones getting Pecked!
James calls out, "Cacnea, use your Pin Missile to keep them back!"
Cacnea fires the attack.
Callista calls out, "Baltoy, Rapid Spin, now!"
Baltoy starts spinning around, fast enough to reflect the pins and send them back where they came from.
Jessie then calls out, "Seviper, use your Wrap to stop that spinning Baltoy!"
Seviper comes slithering in.
Mew then calls out, "Eevee, use Thunderbolt!"
Eevee launches the attack, bringing Seviper to a stop.
Then the woman calls out, "Xatu, Shadow Ball!"
The woman's Xatu launches the attack and sends Team Rocket flying upward with an incredible explosion.
Team Rocket cries out, "We'll be back!"
"Wobbuffet!" (After we land!) Wobbuffet says.
After the battle, Mew and the others rush over to check on the women.
"Are you okay, ma'am?" Mew asks.
"I'm fine," The woman says.
Then Callista asks, "Please, I beg of you to tell us the meaning of the song you were singing before."
"Why, it's just a song. What are you talking about?" The woman asks.
"I'm talking about the part in the song you sing about traveling Baltoy's path," Callista says, "See, I think that path can lead me to the ruins that have the most valuable treasure in the universe."
"I knew it! As soon as we talked on the phone," The group says, confused.
The group turns to each other.
"I guess your hunch is right. She is the one who called me," Callists says.
"Yeah," Mew says.
"Follow me," The woman says.
Everyone follows the woman as she leads them into the tree and then, suddenly, down a sudden drop through a chute and into a chamber. Luckily, they land on the soft hay.
"I didn't think we were ever going to stop," Tomo says.
"At least we land on something soft," Molly says.
Callista looks ahead, "Hey, look!"
Everyone sees what appear to be hieroglyphs on the wall before they get a closer look
Callista is amazing, "Amazing. These hieroglyphs from the Baltoy Civilizations."
"Baltoy Civilization?" Molly asks.
"From the ancient times when Baltoy coexisted with humans, and it looked like their civilization was super advanced. According to the hieroglyphs," Callista says.
Mew then asks, "Hey ma'am, do you know where we can find the treasure in the whole universe? The one believed to be in the Kilikili mountains?"
"What you seek, is over there," The woman says and points to her left.
Everyone looks and sees some stone circle.
"Really?" Callista asks.
"Looks like a pile of rocks," Tomo says.
"Wait, there's something under those rocks. It looks like a stone circle," Jen says.
"Correct," The woman says, "There was a major earthquake that caused part of the wall to collapse on this stone circle. But it's not just a circle of stone, it's the greatest invention of the Baltoy people.
"Greatest invention?" Tomo asks.
"Yes. Sadly, my Baltoy is buried under there as well," The woman says.
"Oh no," Callista says.
"Poor Baltoy," Molly says.
"We gotta get it out," Mew says, "But those rocks look too heavy."
"But what can we do?" Callista asks.
The woman turns to Callista, "Callista, your Baltoy could do it, provided you use the right attack."
"Of course!" Callista says. Then says to the others, "Alright, everyone, you better move aside."
"Okay," Tomo, and the girls reply.
The gang moves aside.
The woman calls out, "Xatu, Reflect."
Xatu creates a barrier protecting everyone
Callista then calls out, "Baltoy, use Confusion to move those rocks!"
Baltoy does so, revealing the stranger's Baltoy underneath before proceeding to destroy the rocks, causing debris and dust to fly. When the dust clears, Xatu lowers the Reflect barrier.
"Baltoy!" The woman says and runs up to it and picks it up, "Baltoy, speak to me."
"Baltoy." (You're back.) Baltoy says.
"I know how hard this has been. Now take a long, overdue rest," The woman says and recalls her Pokemon.
"This is the Baltoy's civilization's greatest invention?" Callista asks.
"That's right, this marvel can allow you to harness the most valuable treasure in the universe," The woman says.
"How did you know about all this stuff?" Tomo asks.
Callista then says, "But wait," and brings out her book, "My book said that no one has discovered the ruins or the treasure within them yet.
"That's true. In fact, I have that same book, too," The woman says and reveals the very same book, only it looks more worn.
Callista is shocked, "Hey! That's my book!"
"Yes. It was this book that first convinced me to research the Baltoy civilization," The woman says.
"Unbelievable," Jen says.
The woman explains, "My mother and father stubbornly refused to allow me to pursue archaeology as a career choice, it was my passion."
"Wait, that's what happened to Callista," Mew says.
"I'm afraid I wasted a lot of time and energy in my life trying to convince them that they were wrong," The woman says.
"But still, you did discover this treasure, right?" Callista says.
"Perhaps, but when it comes to the Baltoy civilization, I've only scratched the surface. Callista we only get one life and sometimes only one chance to follow our dreams," The woman says.
"I know exactly what you mean," Callista says.
But then Callista realizes, "Hold on! This book only came out a couple of months ago, so I know that it's totally brand new!"
"It is?" Molly asks.
"So then…" Mew wonders and turns to the woman's book, "But then, how come your book is so old and worn?"
The woman giggles, "Actually, I've had this book for years. and I've been using it just as long for all my research."
Everyone is surprised.
"But how is that possible?" Callista asks, surprised.
"No need to worry about it, Callista" The woman says, "Now, have your Baltoy do Rapid Spin in the center of this stone wheel. Only then will you learn what the most valuable treasure in the universe, and the greatest invention of the Baltoy civilization, really is."
"Okay," Callista says.
But before they can do anything, the temple starts to shake before a drill bursts through the wall.
"What is that?" Jen asks.
"Team Rocket, I'll bet," Mew says.
The dust soon clears before Team Rocket's laughter is heard while the dust fades to reveal their drilling machine.
"See, James? I told you we find them here," Jessie says.
"Yes, and it looks like they could use some company," James says.
"Present company accepted," Meowth says.
"Team Rocket!" Jen says.
"I thought you were sent blasting into space by now!" Tomo says.
"Let's start small, shall we?" Jessie says.
"One Baltoy coming up!" Meowth says and presses the button to activate a mechanical arm, which grabs Baltoy.
"Baltoy!" Callista cries out.
Team Rocket cheers, "Success!"
"A very good start," Jessie says.
"Now, on to bigger and better things!" James says.
"Which means, digging up all dat treasure!" Meowth says, and presses a button that brings out a bunch of digging tools.
The woman shouts, "Stop! If you damage this magic wheel you would destroy its power forever!
But Meoth says, "Here we come!" And moves the drill towards them.
The woman calls out, "Xatu, Teleport!"
Xatu teleports to the top of the drill.
Then calls out, "Now Peck!"
Xatu starts pecking on the hatch.
"Hey! Dat Pecking is gonna ruin the steel coat finish!" Meowth cries out.
One of the drill's mechanical arms knocks Xatu off.
"Xatu!" The woman calls out.
"So it's made of steel huh," Mew says.
"Dat's right, only ting harder is titanium or your head," Meowth says.
"Well, it's no a problem for us," Mew says, "Pikachu. Eevee. Let's give them a Thunderbolt."
Pikachu and Eevee say, (Roger!)
They both perform Thunderbolt and destroy the arm, freeing Baltoy while baffling Team Rocket.
Baffled, Meowth says, "How'd he know...?"
"I don't know, maybe because you told her!" Jessie angrily says.
Baltoy soon lands.
Callista calls out, "Baltoy, Rapid Spin!"
Baltoy spins as fast as possible and completely destroys the front of the drill.
"Awesome, Callista!" Tomo calls out.
"We crumbled!" Jessie says.
"But it was made of steel!" James says.
"What we need now are noives of steel because I feel our comeuppance coming," Meowth says.
The woman then calls out, "Now, Xatu, Shadow Ball!"
With one powerful Shadow Ball, it hits Team Rocket, and sends them flying once more.
James cries out, "You were right, Meowth! How'd you know?!"
"I guess I'm psychic too," Meowth says.
"Then you need to work on your timing!" Jessie says.
Team Rocket cries out, "We're blasting off again!"
In the ruins, they see Team Rocket is gone.
"We did it," Molly says.
The woman turns to Callista, "Now, wasn't Baltoy about to do Rapid Spin on the magic wheel?"
"Right," Callista says and turns to her Pokemon, "You ready, Baltoy?"
Baltoy confirms and starts spinning round and round on the wheel
"What kind of treasure is it?" Jen asks.
Soon, energy starts spreading across the wheel until it all shoots upward.
"What's happening?" Tomo asks.
"I'm starting to feel a bit scared right now," Callista says.
The stranger then walks forward.
"Wait ma'am," Mew says.
Callus asks, "Where are you going?"
The woman steps into the circle of energy and her cloak blows upward, revealing she's wearing the same sort of dress as Callista before her hood comes off and reveals she has the same hair, too
"Who, are you?" Callista says, "
"I can tell you now. My name is Callista," The woman says and removes her shades, "I'm you, but from the future."
This has everyone shocked to see it, this woman is really Callista. Callista's future self.
"From the future!" Callista says, shocked.
Future Callista says, "This is what the Baltoy civilization created, a very primitive time machine."
"Really? A Time Machine?" Mew asks.
"I've learned in my life that the most valuable treasure of the entire universe is time," Future Callista says.
"Wow. They really made a time machine," Jen says.
"They really invented it that far in the past," Callista says.
"Yes," Callista says, "But alas, my time is growing short in which to learn all of its many secrets. And that is why, I'm leaving you to finish up my research. My reason for coming was to encourage you to stick with your dream. Our time together wasn't long, but it was magical."
"Don't go yet!" Present Callista says and runs up to her future self, "I mean, I've neve done anything like this before. Please, you must teach me."
But her future self says, "The same person cannot exist in the same physical space for any longer time than this. Which means you will have to continue this work on your own.
"But if you're me from the future, then you already exist, and I can't change any of that," Callista says.
But her future self says, "Oh, but you've already changed the future."
"How?" Callista asks.
"When I called and asked for your help. You came to me with great courage and without question. It is that kind of courage that can change the future, please remember that. And always remember the song of the Baltoy civilization," Future Callista says.
Both Callistas sing as Mew plays her Pokeflute.
And soon, the Future Callista vanishes in a bright flash of light. Soon, Baltoy falls over, exhausted and dizzy from the spinning.
"Baltoy!" Callista says and runs up to and picks it up.
Callista says to her Pokemon, "So Baltoy, with courage, we changed the future." She then calls out, "Future me! Thank you, so!"
"I guess time really is the most valuable treasure in the universe," Mew says.
The gang agrees.
Later that evening, the group is back on the surface
"How can I ever thank you and your friends, Ashley?" Callista asks.
"Oh you don't need to do that. We actually learned a lot today as well," Mew says.
"Yeah!" Tomo, Jen, and Molly say.
"From now on, I'm working as hard as I can for what I really want in life," Callista says.
"Us too," The group says.
Mew says, "My dream is to be a Pokemon Master."
"And I like to be part of the Orange Crew, just like my older sister," Jen says.
"I'm not sure what I want to be, but I like to be a great trainer for now," Tomo says.
"I'm not sure either, but maybe one day I'll know," Molly says.
"And you both will become one, someday," Callista says, "And I know that whatever path you choose, you will know."
Then says, "Bye," and runs off with Baltoy.
Mew and the others say their goodbyes.
Suddenly, they hear Brock's voice after Callista and Baltoy are gone, "Guys! There you are!"
Everyone looks back and finds the rest of the group.
"We've been looking for you all day!" Zinnia says.
"You guys okay?" May asks.
"We're okay," Mew says.
"Glad we found you," Brock says.
"Same here," Tomo says.
"Come on guys, let's get going," Mew says.
Everyone else was confused.
"We have to get back on the road to Fortree City to get to my gym battle," Mew says.
"Don't you guys want to have lunch first?" May asks.
